Charlotte is emerging as a leader in technology and sustainability, driven by its strong banking sector and growing fintech job market. The city is competing for federal designation as a top tech hub, which could attract significant funding for innovation, especially in artificial intelligence. In 2018, the City Council set a goal for a low-carbon, resilient city by 2050, aiming for all fleet and facilities to be powered by 100% zero-carbon sources by 2030. Chief Sustainability & Resiliency Officer Sarah Hazel stated, “It’s certainly not an easy goal to achieve, but we need to do this to give future generations a chance to breathe clean air. ” The Charlotte Auto Show showcases electric vehicles, reflecting the city's commitment to clean transportation and its vision for a sustainable future.

The automotive industry is evolving with a focus on and new technology, evident in everything from man vehicle design. The BMW Group emphasizes a circul recycling vehicles at the end of their life and using an 30% recycled materials in new cars. In 2021, Toyota selected our region for its first North battery plant, the Toyota Battery Manufacturing North (TBMNC), investing $5.9 billion to develop lithium-ion b with a commitment to 100% renewable energy. Toyota Carolina will create 2,100 jobs and is actively hiring.

Federal Tax Credit Federal tax credits for electric vehicles can be up to $7,500, but the amount varies based on factors like the vehicle's origin, battery components, cost, and the buyer’s income. Leasing versus buying can also affect the credit amount, so it's advisable to consult your local franchise auto dealer for assistance. Duke Energy Charger Prep Credit Additionally, if you purchase an EV and own your home, Duke Energy offers up to $1,133 in credits for each charger installed.
