Plant prepares Ops through Simulation Training

Batangas — A 10-day hands-on training for engineers was administered to prepare them for the operations and maintenance of the Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) 135-Megawatt Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) Coal-Fired Power Plant in Concepcion, Iloilo. PCPC’s training partner, Sem Calaca Power Corporation, a power plant based in Batangas, prepared intensive activities to hone the future operators of the power plant with the knowledge and skills to maintain a critical facility.

The training was conducted for two batches of 10 engineers each on January 25 to February 5 for the frst batch, and March 1 to 12 for the second
Aside from classroom lectures and discussions, interactive simulation trainings were conducted to give them an immersive learning experience on the boiler and turbine start-up and shutdown. Plant equipment tripping scenarios were also given to trainees in which they were tasked to provide the necessary mitigating measures to prevent unwanted shutdown. In addition, the Operations Group engineers were taught the correct methods in executing proper emergency shutdown procedures for the safety of the plant and its equipment. All trainees underwent COVID-19 RT-PCR tests before departure from Iloilo and upon arrival at the venue. The company ensured both engineers and the trainors practice maximum health protocols on the duration of the whole training. The training also recognized the attentiveness of participants as Rickjun Destriza, Turbine Control Engineer, and Freddie Marie Legaspi, Boiler Control Engineer were cited as Best Trainees for Batches 1 and 2 respectively.
