In the early 1900s, ceramic tile became popular in interior spaces around the world after architects George Heins and Christopher Lafarge were commissioned to create the first subway line in New York City. The two architects envisioned the New York subway stations to be functional, efficient and aesthetically pleasing. To achieve this, they enlisted the use of elegant mosaic tile work and 3” x 6” ceramic tiles. Ceramic tile’s durability, stain resistance, and ease of maintenance were properties they sought for such highly trafficked areas.
Chapter 2 Vintage Studio® embraces the nostalgia of the traditional 3” x 6” subway tile and expands upon that tradition, modernizing the classic look, to offer additional sizes and an array of colors that attract today’s consumer. This collection features the classic ceramic field tiles and porcelain mosaics vital to developing everyday yet timeless installations.

Chapter 2 Vintage Studio products have uniformed shade variation consistent in color. However, we recommend that you inspect and confirm the tile and layout pattern prior to installation. Jeffrey Court recommends a highquality white thinset for best installation results. A grey mortar, mastic or adhesives could stain or alter the color of the product.

We recommend wet cutting or the score and snap method during the installation process. Improper installation techniques could expose installer to inhalation of harmful silica dust.
