FALL 2024
Situated in Venice, Italy, this complex of structures serves to juxtapose the heaviness of stone with the lightness and fluidity of glass art. The program includes hot shops, galleries, restaurant, outdoor public spaces, and general information areas to teach the visitors about the glass blowing process. Enormous stone walls are erected from the water, seemingly blocking out the entire world and encapsulating the programs within into a sound-proofed, personal interior condition. Within the 20' thick stone walls lies a series of thin, stacked, organic shaped floor plates that visitors are encouraged to explore. Perforations in the floor plates allow for vertical communication, establishing different experiences on each floor at both a visual and auditory level. The highest floor is able to see over the exterior wall out into the water.
Between the massive structures lies a public space, available to use for markets, musical performances, and other public events. The unique atmosphere would make the space a good venue or meeting place.
