This is one of my favorite romantic comedies of all time. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey’s chemistry is almost unmatched, and it is practically the perfect enemies to lovers movie. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a great movie for all ages and genders, and I LOVE IT! -Ashlynn
Upgraded is a new rom-com that is dramatic, charming, and artsy! Ana, an art intern, is upgraded to first class on a work trip to London. She then bumps into a charming stranger, and their paths are intertwined from there.

An American girl travels to Korea to attend the same college her long-distance boyfriend attends. She did all that just to find out bro was cheating, but then fell in love with his ROOMMATE. It was interesting enough for me to not sleep for 2 days.

Dear Brier & Chloe, I had a Valentine this month... What should our first date be?
Brier: If you are both cat lovers then you and your date should go to Baristocats Cat Cafe and lounge around with the cats while taking your pick in a coffee or pastry. Baristocats Cat Cafe is also near the downtown area so it'll give you a chance to walk around and enjoy each other's company.
Chloe: I think that you and your date should go to Unique Creations downtown and paint pottery or make a candle together, then walk around and get something to eat (there are so many good options). I think that it would be especially great if you and your date are art lovers, or creative in general!

Commanding Officer AJ Franz, Chief of the Boat Frank Cook, and Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicholas Robinson, are all stationed on the USS Jefferson City SSN 759. They came to Jefferson City on what is called a namesake visit to see the city that the submarine is named in honor of and to meet the great community here! They were honored during halftime at the Boy's Basketball game on Friday, February 23rd.
USS stands for United States Ship, and SSN stands for a submarine with nuclear power. Franz explained that the USS Jefferson City is a "fast-attack submarine, powered by a nuclear reactor, stationed out of Agana, Guam, which is the westernmost submarine port we have in the United States of America." The reason that they are stationed in Guam is to "preserve the peace... respond in crisis... and win our nation's wars decisively if called upon."
Commanding Officer AJ Franz kindly gave me one of his ship's coins. He explained that the ship's coin is red and black for Jefferson City High School Colors. On the frontside, there is an outline of Guam, which is where she is stationed. There is also a 688 submarine shooting a torpedo. Around the coin is the submarine’s name. In addition, there is the phrase "Mount Up!" Franz explained that this is because the submarine's mascot is the regulators: and when he calls regulators, his crew yells Mount Up!
The backside of the coin has the great state of Missouri with the American Flag, and Franz remarked that it is featured because that is "what we represent ... and are defending everyday." In addition, the coin has Sheriff's Badge (the gold emblem), which is the command at sea pin, indicating that Franz is the captain of the submarine. Franz also wears a command at sea pin as a part of his uniform.
What Does it mean to visit Jefferson City and be Honored?
Franz explained that it is "awesome to be here in Jefferson city" and that he has been "wowed by how nice the people are, how giving and how supportive they have been." He described the reasons that he visited JC: one, to "let you see us, and get to know us a little bit, and what we're all about... and make sure you remember that you have shipmates that are out there on your namesake submarine ... always ready to defend the freedoms that you are enjoying back home," and two, to "get to know you guys."
Chief of the Boat Frank Cook said that being recognized is "phenomenal." He mentioned that they "rock red and black on the ship" because those are the ship's colors and that is how they represent Jefferson City. He remarked that "it is motivating to see us," and that seeing the community and Jefferson City High School students is "helping to reignite my why and why I do what I do everyday."
What would you tell someone that is considering joining the navy?
Franz said that he wants people to know that "the Navy is a great career opportunity, and you don't have to do 21 years like me... you can learn some valuable things." He explained that the Navy gives people education, discipline, and many opportunities. He remarked that "for folks in Missouri, the Navy is a fantastic option."
Cook explained that "the United State Navy is the best military that the United States of America has to offer. It enables young people to maximize their potential." He said that it teaches members "what it means to be an adult" and the "basic fundamentality of what it is like to be responsible citizens in America," and that they learn what it is like to "have commitment and make decisions from that." He mentioned that his favorite part about being in the Navy is "interacting with junior sailors, the community, and young citizens."
What are you looking forward to upon your return to guam?
Franz said that he is "looking forward to going back and talking to the crew, and making sure they understand the level of support that they have from the community back here ... and remind them that we are fighting for the people in Jefferson City because they're worth fighting for."
Franz remarked that "the last thing I want people to know is that the USS Jefferson City's birthday is on Thursday, February 29th. She's going to be 32 years old... and we're going to have a huge party in Guam- you're all invited!"
It was an honor to talk to US Navy members that are stationed on Jefferson City's namesake ship. Make sure to wish the USS Jefferson City Happy Birthday!

Want to participate in JC Reads Week, but don't know what to read? Check out what books our staff loves and would recommend!
Dune is one of the greatest sci-fi books of all time. Great for Star Wars fans and people who like worldbuilding and in-depth lore.
The characters and world in which they live is very realistic and all of the characters are easy to relate to for all students.
Crier's War is a must read! It's a captivating fantasy romance that's the first in a duology. Read if you are a fan of enemies to lovers books.
City of Last Chances is confusing yet charming, with creepy lore, highstakes action, and intriguing politics. If you ’ re unsure which genre is for you, give it a shot!
Better Than The Movies is one of my favorite boy next door rom-coms. The book deals with grief, growing up, being true to yourself, and of course love. Make your superhero dreams come true by reading Renegades. Dive into the world where superhumans protect and threaten society.
Expand your horizon and look into how 6 countries work. The book makes you want to cry, live, laugh, and sleep. Mr. Gale put me on this gem, and everyone should read it for the funsies too.
Five Feet Apart is one of my favorite books and movies. It showcases the great lengths people go to when they're in love and how it can be found in unexpected places.
If you are fascinated by abnormal minds, The Collector is for you. This book gives you a peek into a young man ’ s disturbing thoughts and rationale for deciding to kidnap a woman.
The Troop is a disturbing horror novel about the dark side of science and nature. But beware, this book is not for the squeamish.
One Hundred Years of Solitude tells the story of the rise and fall, birth and death of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendiá family.
We Can Be Heroes is a heartbreakingly beautiful story about grief, anger, and the need for change. Make sure to check the trigger warnings before reading.
The Push is a book about a mother who is sure there is something wrong with her sociopathic 5-yearold daughter, but no one believes her. The plot twists in this book lead the reader to realize just how bad her daughter’s condition is.
This is an action-packed adventure novel that will immerse you in its world of Greek mythology! If you want an escape from your bland life, try this one out.
"Fleming Frenzy is like the spirit club of our school. We amp up school spirit by getting everyone hyped for games and events. We paint the whole school with pride and unity. We also help students feel more connected to their school, making it more than just a place for classes. It's a community vibe that makes all the school moments a bit more memorable. And we boost attendance at school events, which is super cool for team morale! Fleming Frenzy started a couple years ago and just became big this year! We saw in a yearbook that a spirit club used to be a big thing back in the day so we decided to bring it back! If others want to become involved in the Fleming Frenzy, just come out and
support our sports!"
-Reese Patterson, member of Fleming Frenzy

The French Flag features three colors in series: a deep, refreshing blue, a pure, clean white, and a solid, brick red. The flag is colloquially referred to as the “tricolor” and the blue and red colors represent the city of Paris while the white in the middle represents royalty. Bisous!
