Endangered Western Greenland

Increasing moving rate of Greenland Glacier Surface Melting is speeding flow of Greenland Glaciers. Each summer, the meltwater seeps through crevasss and moulins to the bottom of the ice sheets. At the bottom, the water can lubricate the base of the ice, while it also releases heat when ir re-freezes, softening the surrounding ice and allowing it to flow faster.

“Warmer, softer ice within the ascal unit together with llubriation at the ice sheet base contributes to the onset of fast flow. ”In the onset regioin, the ice moves 10-100% faster than the adjacent ice.” (from the study published in the journal Nature Geoscience)

Coldness Transfer System The upper aero-fin is designed in the shape to gain the coldness from the Arctic winds that blow at night. Bringing -8°F east wind to the coldness storage tank and maintian the low temperature that would help maintain the surface ice and stablely thicken the top layer of the surface.

Cooling Process 01 Collect and Store Coldness The upper aero-fin is designed in the shape to gain the coldness from the Arctic winds top layer of the surface.

The heat tank and the heat transferring fin are installed under the glacier surface from -10m -80m, in order to extract the longlasting coldness in the mid glacier. Also, it would be the best place to storage the coldness.

The Central Panel covers the draining stream and serve as a new layer for ice to refreeze and then stablize the melting area around the supraglacial streams.

The panels are formed in hexagon to stregthen the bonds that conncet each unit, and also is the better shape for the meltwaater to storage and refreeze.

Fog is most frequent during the dry summer months from June to September. On the coast, wind drives an upwelling of cold water on the ocean surface, creating a temperature gradient that cools the moist air above.

Water vapor then condenses into droplets in the air, producing the fog, which provides moisture to the area.

Responsive Sliding Nets The mechanic sliding net can be operated to response to the changing climate. When the Fog Detector detects the fog approaching, the sliding anchor would move to fully open meshes to harvest fog, and when the fog leaves, anchors would move again to close the mesh.

1. The wind naturally directs fog into the nets, which are suspended vertically on the western facade 2. Atmosperic water vapor would condense into droplets, and then fall downwards along the suspended nets.

3. The net traps water droplets within its mesh, and these then fall into a trough below, leading to a reservoir where the drinking water is collected.

4. The water collected would be utilize to irrigate plants and be sprayed on the western facade to cool down the heated side. These water could help reduce the usage of AC to save electricity.

Monterey Bay, CA, USA The climate is a cool Mediterranean type, strongly influenced by the prevailing winds from the west, which blow over the Pacific Coast's cool ocean currents from Alaska.

The average rainfall is 50 centimeters (20 inches) per year, with 90.3% falling during November through April.

Fog is most frequent during the dry summer months from June to September.

On the coast, wind drives an upwelling of cold water on the ocean surface, creating a temperature gradient that cools the moist air above.

Water vapor then condenses into droplets in the air, producing the fog, which provides moisture to the area. The Salinas Valley, a productive agricultural area many miles inland, is the recipient of more than five hours of fog and low clouds every 24 hours.
