General Information The Lincolnwood Summer Day Camp is… SAFE Our staff is selected for their enthusiasm, maturity and experience working with children. They go through an extensive training prior to the start of camp so they are well-prepared to handle the needs of all participants.

ENGAGING We believe in structuring our camps to involve and engage each camper as they learn, play and grow. Summer is a time to explore and try new things. We will do our best to introduce your child to as many new experiences as possible. Our goal is for every child to have a well-rounded summer camp experience from start to finish so that they are eager to return year after year!

AFFORDABLE We strive to provide high-quality programs at affordable prices so that everyone is able to participate. We offer early bird registration discounts, a camp payment plan, and scholarships.

ACCOMMODATING We offer camps for ages 3-12 years of age, including traditional day camp and specialty camps. We believe in a service first mentality and strive to keep open communication between staff and families.

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE LINCOLNWOOD SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAM? Whether you are new to our programs or you’ve been a part of our camps for years, everyone has questions. Whatever the case may be, we would be delighted to have you attend the Parent Orientation on Wednesday, May 22 via Microsoft TEAMS from 6:30-7:30pm. We will review the Parent Handbook, highlighting pertinent information specific to each camp. A question and answer period will wrap up the evening allowing everyone to leave feeling fully prepared for the first day of camp!

Drop Off/Pick-Up: Tent near the Aquatic Center ratio of campers to counselors _________________________________________________________________ Tree Tikes is designed specifically for our youngest campers with developmentally appropriate activities planned each day. This is a great way for your child to make new friends and develop their first fond summer camp memories. The program is held Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The abbreviated day allows for campers to get a full experience of camp without overwhelming them. With safety as our first priority, we adhere to a 5:1 ratio of campers-tocounselors. Children will swim two days a week at the Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center for recreational swim, with the option of swim lessons for an additional fee. Campers will have a mix of activities throughout the day using large and small motor skills, such as sports, crafts, and playground play. Campers must be fully potty trained to attend this camp and should have an extra change of clothes on hand in case of accidents. Campers should come dressed to swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Campers will swim from 10:0010:45am. Campers must be three years old by August 1, 2024.

Drop Off/Pick-Up: Proesel Park Pavillion ratio of campers to counselors _________________________________________________________________ Little Lincolns is a great full day option for six-to-eight-year-olds. The Little Lincoln campers will make friends as they play and grow throughout the day. Little Lincoln campers are in an 8:1 ratio of campers-to-counselors. Children will swim four days a week at the Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center for recreational swim, from 12:30-2:30 pm. They will also have the option to participate in swim lessons during the camp day. Campers will play a variety of sports, make crafts, STEM activities, and play large group games throughout the day. Campers will have an offsite field trip each Friday. Camp is rain or shine. Campers should bring a lunch, water bottle, swimsuit, sunscreen, and towel each day. A calendar including weekly themes, special activities, and snacks for each session of camp will be provided to families. Campers must be six years old by August 1, 2024.

Proesel Pals have a 10:1 ratio of campers-to-counselors. Campers will play a variety of sports, make crafts, STEM activities, and play large group games throughout the day. Children will swim four days a week at the Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center for recreational swim from 12:302:30pm. They will also have an option for swim lessons during the camp day. Drop Off/Pick-Up: Lincoln Hall School (Door #8) ratio of campers to counselors _________________________________________________________________ Whether your kids are registered for summer school or you’re just looking for a half day program; half day camp is a flexible option! Half day camps allow for kids to enjoy a traditional camp experience regardless of your other activities. Children enrolled in summer school at School District 74 will be transitioned to the half day camp. Due to the timing of the camps and length of the programs, half day morning camp participants will not swim or go on field trips. Campers will stay busy with a variety of sports, STEM activities, and games. Half day afternoon camp will have a lunch break from 12:00-12:30 pm. Campers should bring a lunch with them each day. If your child is only coming for an afternoon camp and does not wish to have lunch at camp, they do not need to arrive until 12:30 pm. Half Day Afternoon campers will swim at the Proesel Park Aquatic Center Tuesdays and Thursdays. Campers will need to be picked up from the pool on those days.

Specialty Camp – Sports Tiny Tots Sports Camp (Ages 4-7) Campers are introduced to the fundamentals of sports including basketball, floor hockey, football, kickball, soccer, t-ball and other sports and group games. Pee Wee Soccer Skills Camp (Ages 4-7) This camp is designed for young players to develop their soccer skills and gain confidence, coordination, motor skills and communication. Tumbling and Cheer (Ages 6-12) Under the direction of Chicago Loves Dance instructors, participants will be sure to have a blast in this summer outdoor camp. Participants will learn cheer and poms choreography, and will also work on flexibility, relaxation and stretching in a daily yoga session. Participants will learn a variety of cheers daily, work on form, and add on to their poms dance routine. Participants will then move into a yoga/stretch session with traditional kids’ yoga poses, while working on stretches that are helpful for cheer movements. Specialty Camp – Sports Tumbling and Yoga (Ages 6-12) Introduce your child to tumbling and gymnastics with instructors from Chicago Loves Dance! Participants move, stretch, jump, and tumble! Campers will progress from somersaults to cartwheels in this fun one-week camp! Campers will work on flexibility, relaxation, and stretching in a daily yoga session that will enhance their new tumbling and gymnastic skills. Chicago Union Ultimate Camp (Ages 9-13) Ultimate is a fast, fun, easy-to-learn field game played with a flying disk. It combines the athleticism of running and quick change of direction with the skill of throwing and is played on a field with scoring endzones like football. Players advance the disc by completing passes to teammates. The Chicago Union hosts this week-long camp introducing basic rules and strategies to help develop throwing/catching techniques through games and activities that emphasize teamwork, good spirit, and the joy of play. Specialty Camp – Sports L.I.S.A Soccer Camp (Ages 5-14) Let’s get your kids “soccer fit” this summer! This summer camp is designed for players of all levels, from beginner to advanced. All participants will be evaluated on skills and age to form camp groups. Our professional coaches will make sure players of all ages and abilities can get the most from their camp experience. Your kids will be challenged, entertained, and kept active throughout the morning. Campers are required to wear soccer shoes and shin guards and bring a water bottle. Parents should plan to attend a brief parent meeting on the first day of camp to get a quick overview of the program. Lil’ Dribblers Basketball (Ages 4-7) Join us for an introduction to the game of basketball in a safe, fun and exciting environment! Using age-appropriate activities and games, along with a lower basket, campers are introduced to the basics of basketball. Development of early skills such as proper ball handling, passing and shooting is combined with the basic knowledge of the rules of the game and principles of teamwork and sportsmanship. Volleyball Skills Camp (Ages 9-14) Join us this summer to develop volleyball skills, strategy, and technique with the coaches of Hot Shots Sports! Players receive a solid foundation on the fundamental skills of volleyball through fun and active drills. Daily scrimmages allow players to use these skills in a game environment. Through specifically designed small-sided games and scrimmages, coaches work with each player to improve his or her individual skills. AYSO Play! Camps! (Ages 6-14) Join AYSO Play! Camps this summer for an immersive soccer experience led by certified youth coaches. Engage in daily small group sessions, allowing personalized guidance through soccer skills and challenges. Specialty Camp – STEM & Arts Chess Wizards (Ages 6-12) Chess Wizards has been teaching the game of chess since 2002. Join us this summer for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes. You will improve your chess skills, meet new friends, and work out your most powerful muscle – your brain! Our camps include fun team chess games (like Corner Chess), recess time, snacks, tournaments, and puzzles. Each camper receives a T-shirt, trophy, and puzzle folder. Da Vinci’s Workshop (Ages 6-12) Join us today to create your own masterworks; no experience required! Our Renaissance instructors will guide your child through exciting new lessons in every class! Students will learn fundamental artistic skills in a variety of mediums including acrylic painting, watercolors, clay sculptures, cartoons, anime, manga, sketching and drawing. Pass secret messages to your friends in invisible ink? Learn how to do these and much, much, more! Junior Alchemists is designed to not only pique an interest in scientific inquiry, but to introduce students to a deeper understanding of its development and application. We allow them to see the basic principles of science in the world around them. From improv to storytelling, from clowning to writing sketches, this comedy camp has it all. With direction and coaching from an experienced comedian, kids will learn improv, storytelling, and sketch comedy the Knuckleball Comedy way: with style, confidence, and energy. Along the way, participants will not only gain valuable tools for everyday life but will also enjoy lots of laughs throughout. PRORATING

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

We do not prorate daily camp fees. You will be charged for the entire session regardless of how many days you attend.

In order to qualify for the resident rate (R), the participant must reside within the corporate boundaries of Lincolnwood on a year-round (12 month) basis. Proof of residency may be required at time of registration. Anyone not meeting these requirements will be responsible for paying the non-resident (NR) rate.

EARLY REGISTRATION FEE We encourage families to register for camp by April 1, 2024 at 5:00pm to receive the early bird discount.

General Information STAFF SUPERVISION

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Each camp is supervised daily by a qualified adult supervisor. Some camps, depending on size, also have an assistant. Counselors are carefully selected for their demonstration of maturity and enthusiasm as well as experience working with children. All camp staff members complete an extensive training including first aid and CPR certification prior to the start of camp. Please see staff-to-camper ratios highlighted for each general recreation camp throughout this publication.

All campers must complete a Camper Data Form at the time of registration. No camper will be allowed to stay at camp if he/she does not have a completed Camper Data Form on file. Information collected on this form includes emergency contacts, medical information, allergy information, permission to attend field trips and authorized pick-up persons. It is your responsibility as a parent/guardian to notify the Parks and Recreation Department of any conditions that may require special attention while your child is at camp. Please do not send your child to camp if they are sick. Children should be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to camp after an illness.

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT All campers are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. Guidelines have been developed to help make our programs safe and enjoyable for all. The Camper Code of Conduct in the Parent Handbook should be reviewed with your child prior to the first day of camp. WEATHER Camp is held rain or shine, with participants moved to indoor space when necessary. We will communicate camp drop-off and pick-up location changes as this information becomes available. If there is inclement weather during swim time, recreational swim will not be made up that day.

WAIVER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY In accordance with our registration policy, a signed waiver must be on file for participation in any of our programs. This agreement can be found on the reverse side of our registration form as well as online at www.lincolnwoodil.org. INSURANCE The Parks and Recreation Department does not carry medical insurance and assumes no liability for personal injury or loss of personal property while attending any of our programs.

LUNCH Please send your child to camp with a lunch and beverage each day, unless otherwise noted in the camp calendars.

CAMP SCHEDULE

The Parent Handbook will be available online at www.recreation.lwd.org and in person. Please read through this booklet prior to the start of camp for everything you need to know about camp including information on lunches, field trips, sunscreen, swimming, camp clothing, hours and drop-off/pick-up procedures. Camp calendars will be emailed to families. Each calendar will list highlighted activities, theme days, field trips and special food days. Although we do our best to adhere to the calendars, activities are subject to change. We will communicate all changes with you well in advance to avoid confusion. In an effort to remain “green”, all newsletters and calendars will be emailed. Please make sure to provide a current email address at time of registration.

Due to the School District 74 snow schedule, camp start dates are subject to change. Please call the Parks and Recreation office for more information.

PAYMENT PLANS For your convenience, we offer a payment plan. We collect a $100 nonrefundable deposit per child (also due at registration), which is applied toward the total camp cost for your child. Camp payments must be paid in full by June 7, 2024. Please visit the Parks and Recreation Department to complete all necessary paperwork. SCHOLARSHIP/FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM This program is designed to provide financial assistance/scholarship to residents of Lincolnwood in order to support participation in recreational programs. The deadline to request financial assistance for summer 2024 programs is May 1, 2024. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department for more information.

M-NASR CAMP INFORMATION Maine-Niles Association of Special Recreation (M-NASR) provides a variety of Summer Day Camps for youth and teens with special needs. M-NASR offers five different Summer Day Camps with weekly registration available. For Member Districts’ residents, there are transportation and scholarship opportunities. To ensure the camper has a successful camp experience, M-NASR provides a structured camp environment and staff according to the needs of each camper. SUMMER CAMP REFUND POLICY The Camp Refund policy is stated below: • 25% cancellation charge per child, per camp session up to a maximum of $100 if the cancellation occurs two or more weeks prior to the start of the camp session. • 50% cancellation charge per child, per camp session up to a maximum of $200 if the cancellation occurs less than two weeks prior to the start of the camp session. • No refund will be issued if the cancellation occurs on the first day of camp or after. • A refund request form must be completed for all refunds.
