Club Torque We are fast approaching the AGM of the club and I invite any interested members to consider nominating for the club Executive Committee.

I am retiring as President after three years in the role. I would like to congratulate the executive for their professionalism, commitment and dedication in working for the membership of the club.

I wish to acknowledge the work of three other executive members who have also indicated they are retiring at the AGM - Alan Bartram has been a very efficient & supportive Secretary, Dane Wilden has produced excellent Classic Marques, and Robin Ide has been a dedicated register secretary.

The President’s Rap

The next few months are very busy with motoring events and activities. It is pleasing to see that we are still getting great involvement of members in all events.

Our next whole of club event is the Annual SA Jag Day to be held on Sunday 20th October at Civic Park Modbury. We are also having Cats & Cans again supporting the work of the Salvation Army. SA Jag Day is a very popular event and I encourage all members to bring along their vehicles (no matter what the condition) and take part. It would be great to see some restoration projects there as well.

Club Torque Welcome back to another edition of Classic Marque, and my final as editor.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading these issues of Classic Marque over the past three years as much as I’ve enjoyed putting them together for you. The role of Editor is not a simple one and requires a great deal of dedication and work to produce one 26 to 30 page issue per month (and many late nights!).

I’d like to thank all of those who have contributed to the magazine during my tenure; your submissions, no matter how small or simple, have helped make the magazine what it is today.

I encourage you to read through the reports and minutes within to gain a better understanding of how your club operates behind the scenes. I also encourage you to consider nomination for a role on the Executive Committee, where you’ll be able to share your ideas and contribute to the operation and future direction of this organisation.

As we enter Spring, you’ll notice a great increase in the number of motoring events held in and around Adelaide; these present the perfect opportunity to get the Jag out of the garage and on to the road. Keep an eye on the JDCSA Club Calendar on the

website for the most up-to-date information on events happening near you. Don’t forget the 2019 Bay to Birdwood Classic will be held on Sunday 29th September whether you’re participating or spectating, I hope you enjoy it!

I will continue on as a contributor to Classic Marque and encourage you all once again - as always - to submit stories, photos, reports, and anecdotes to the future Editor.

Australian Council of Jaguar Clubs—ACJC Chairman’s Report—August 2019 Committee Members and Meetings The start of the 2018-2019 year for The Council saw 3 new delegates: John Flynn (NSW) who took on the position of Treasurer, Jim Reid (QLD) who has offered to take on the role of Secretary in the new year and Kent Harbutt (TAS). Following the first couple of meetings it was clear that we need to develop an induction process for new delegates to bring them up to speed with their role and the current status of events within the Council. A thank you to John Lynn for taking on the Treasurer’s role and his perseverance in getting the bank signatures changes was a “baptism of fire” and we appreciate that. Our esteemed Secretary Larry Roux is retiring this AGM and has undertaken the Secretary role with professional aplomb and his minutes were always completed in a timely and accurate manner along with the unenviable task of collating articles and responses for the Andrew Whitely and Paul Skilleter awards.

During the year the Council moved to the electronic Zoom meetings which have allowed us to have bi-monthly meetings at a cost of around $40 per meeting compared to many thousands to fly delegates into Sydney only twice per year.

Future Issues – The Value of The Council?

Much discussion was undertaken within both our meetings and with a survey to constituent clubs (with no success) to create some clarity around the Council’s; 1. Purpose 2. Long term value 3. National Rally involvement 4. Relationship with JLRA 5. Sponsorship possibilities, and 6. Need to better communicate with constituent clubs The final outcome was: 1. There is a perceived need to have a collective voice for Jaguar Clubs 2. JLRA will determine the relationship with the Council, but it will take time to re-establish 3. Jaguar National Rallies on an annual basis are considered imperative 4. Rebuild the Council’s website 5. Need to create a broader value proposition JLRA Relationship The year opened up with Jaguar Land Rover Australia (JLRA) challenging the Council’s relationship generally and the level of potential sponsorship towards the National Rally.

National Rallies The JNR in Wodonga was very successful with accolades across all State attendees. Wodonga was a concours event and despite there being a small number of participants it was identified as being all important. WA NR in 2020 and Tasmania’s in 2021 will not be concours events so the importance of both Sydney and Melbourne to carry the torch has been elevated.

The trophies used for the Rally and those which have been archived are in the process of being valued which will allow the Council to appropriately insure them. JCCV have offered to continue to include the trophy insurance as part of the broader insurance policy (at the Council’s cost) which will save many dollars against a single use policy.

During the year and thanks to Ian Hissey (Past Chairman) we received new Ian Callum Trophy via James Scrimshaw (JLRA). It is a very unique and contemporary looking trophy and we are very lucky to be in possession of it. An insurance value of $10,000 was identified

by Jaguar UK making it a valuable trophy.

Future Issues and 2019-2020 year Next year will see, among other issues the Council debating: • Is our membership too narrow and what other options should be explored?

• The continuing development and re-establishment of the JLRA relationship.

• Ensuring ongoing sponsorship from JLRA towards our National Rallies.

• What the impact on the National Rallies with only Sydney & Melbourne facilitating concours and whether the timetable will need to be tweaked. What would the impact be if membership was opened up?

• Council delegates induction process.

I would like to thank all delegates on the Council for their; attendance at the meetings—particularly with the changing digital format, diligence in the debate of our future and willingness to explore broader issues to ensure the Council remains relevant.

Club Torque Jaguar Drivers Club of SA General Meeting 6th August 2019

Opening: President, Julian Lugg, welcomed everyone and opened the meeting at 7.30pm.

Visitors and New Members: Julian welcomed visitors Kylie and Fatemeh from the Salvos and new member Evan Denning who is in the process of buying an E-type.

Presentation from members of the Salvation Army: Vice President Phil Prior introduced Kylie Collinson from the Ingle Farm Salvos and her colleague Fatemeh. They had been invited to tell us about the Salvos’ work because of our Club’s support of the Salvos through the Cats and Cans initiative. Kylie told us about the community programmes that the Salvos run at Ingle Farm and the principle of ‘hand-up’ compared with ‘hand-out’. She emphasised how appreciative the Salvos were of the support that comes from ‘Cats and Cans’. Fatemah then told us about the support that she and her family have had from the Salvos and how she now volunteers and what that means to her. After a few questions from the floor, Julian thanked Kylie and Fatemeh for their presentations.

Previous Minutes: Minutes of the general meetings held in June and July had been previously circulated in CM and both lots of minutes were accepted as accurate records of those meetings.

Welfare Report: - Hazel Brown is in hospital.

- Rob Smith is in a care facility. Some of his cars have been sold.

- Ex Chief Engineer of Jaguar, Jim Randle died recently. He is remembered by some of us for his attendance at a National Rally in Australia President’s Report: Annual Dinner: Julian reported that the dinner had been a resounding success and thanked organisers Geoff and Marg Thomas, Peter and Ros Holland and Daphne and Bob Charman. At the dinner, Julian presented Etype mementos to Most Enthusiastic New Members, Rosalinda and Gary Scamelera, Editor’s Choice Award to Bob Charman, Club Person of the Year to Daphne and Bob Charman, and President’s Award to Phil Prior.

Secretary’s Report: Alan confirmed that all office bearer positions will be declared vacant and nominations will be sought prior to the September AGM. Members are free to take magazines that are on the table.

Treasurer: Heather advised that Club accounts are ready for review prior to submission for acceptance at the AGM. Membership Officer: Daphne advised that Tidy HQ is a big help in the management of membership. There have been two applications for membership in the last month which is about the monthly average for the year.

New Members’ Lunch was well received and Julian thanked Angela for organising the lunch.

Julian reminded members that the AGM will be in September and some nominations have been received but not yet for Club Secretary.

2020 National Rally: The rally will follow the SA approach of about 4 days based near Perth and 4 days further south at Busselton. The WA Club has recommended a particular transport operator for those who do not wish to drive their cars to or from WA. Vice President’s Report: Jag Day this year will be on Sunday 20 October at Civic Park, Modbury. Cats and Cans will happen again and letters are available for members to use to assist in getting support from stores. If you can donate a prize to be used on Jag Day please let Phil know.

Phil provided info about a run from Ingle Farm to Tarlee on Sunday 13 October.

Contact person is Trevor Norley and details are in CM. 46ers will stay overnight at Clare on Sat 12 Oct and be at Tarlee on the 13th.

Logbooks: Dave Burton advised that the Club has 425 log books issued to members. There are 24 currently which have not yet been renewed.

Members thanked Dave for his efforts by spontaneous applause.

ACJC: Tim White reported that JRLA are now participating in ACJC activities and ACJC has a new website. Tim would welcome feedback from members on the website.

Events Coordination: Jim Komaromi reminded members of a range of Club activities. More details of Club Calendar information is provided on the website.

Regalia: Ron has hats and caps at reduced prices at Club meetings. He also has polos, shirts, vests, and jackets for sale and he outlined how to order, get the right sizing and delivery arrangements.

New Business: NTR Closure: After thanking the XK 7, 8, & 9 Register for supper and minutes, Julian closed the meeting at 8.35pm.

Club Torque XK & Mk 7, 8, & 9 Register 7th August 2019

We met at the Lofflers’ at 10.00am and enjoyed a delicious morning tea of scones, jam and cream before having a short Register meeting.

Opening: Robin opened the meeting at 10.45am by welcoming members and thanking Rob and Vicki for hosting us at their place. A special welcome went to new member, Paul Taylor, Bill and Julie Barker from Bendigo and the Loffler’s friends Suzanne and Malcolm Drewer.

Club Business: Logbooks and Membership: Members were reminded that logbook and membership renewals were now overdue and cars cannot be driven unless both are current.

AGM: Tuesday 3 September.

Jag Day and Cats and Cans: Sunday 20 October is the day for both. Robin had copies of the letter for members to present to stores to gain their support for donations for Cats and Cans.

Register Business: Border Run: Robin gave an update on plans for the Border Run on 22 and 23 Oct.

Eight SA couples have booked accommodation and have let Robin know.

On Tuesday 22nd we plan to visit historic Yallum Park House near Penola where we will also have a light lunch and tour the garden.

Options for Tuesday afternoon will be to visit the Coonawarra wineries or explore Penola’s shops and history.

Under consideration for Wednesday are a caves visit, a meeting with a local classic car club, Feast’s car museum or the Glencoe shearing shed etc.

The rally dinner will be at the Barn on Wednesday night.

September Meeting: Confirmed to be at the Harrisons’ at Magill. The usual reminder will go out in late August.

Closure: Robin closed the formal part of the meeting at 11.15am.

Election of Register Secretary: Robin had previously advised that he would not offer for re-election as Register Secretary for the new club year. There was one nomination which was from Steve Weeks and he was duly elected.

Rob Loffler outlined arrangements for lunch at a pub in nearby Strathalbyn, but before we went into Strath some of us had a tour of Rob’s new shed. After lunch some people inspected cars at a local classic car dealer’s premises.

Drive Your Old Car Day Sunday 1st September Join the JDCSA and Armstrong Siddeley Club for a well planned mystery run through the Adelaide Hills, followed by lunch at a country hotel. JAGUAR DRIVERS CLUB OF SA INC Minutes of 2018 Annual General Meeting Held on Tuesday 4th September 2018 at The Police Club, 27 Carrington St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Meeting Open: 8:05 pm Welcome: President Julian Lugg welcomed all and especially Patron Peter Holland Present: as per attendance list Apologies: as per the attendance list Minutes of Previous Meeting: 5th September 2017. Business Arising: Nil President’s Report – Julian Lugg The highlight of the last 12 months has undoubtedly been the Jaguar National Rally 2018 held here in South Australia. I congratulate National Rally Director Di Adamson, with Suzanne Jarvis, Peter Thomas and the organising committee for their outstanding work in offering a rally with a different format. A feature of the rally was the extensive club support. It was held over eight days with four days in the Barossa followed by four days around Victor Harbor. The rally also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the XK120. There was overwhelming national support with every event having record numbers. The success of the rally will further promote some new developments in ACJC (Australian Council of Jaguar Clubs).

The great strength of our club I believe is the registers. Whilst we have continued great attendance at our general meetings it is through the registers that most club members are involved. I must pay tribute to our register secretaries who coordinate the registers and maintain communication. Well done to Peter & Heather Buck, Angela & David Rogers, Bob Charman, Robin Ide, Alan Baker, and Bob Kretschmer with support from Malcolm Adamson. (Thank you to Ron Palmer & Tim White for their previous roles as register secretaries.) The executive committee of our club is a great group of enthusiasts who work tirelessly for the welfare of the club. Vice President Phil Prior, Secretary Alan Bartram, Treasurer Tim White, membership secretary Daphne Charman, Editor Dane Wilden and Event Coordinators Jim & Arcadia Komaromi deserve special mention as your elected committee. We have been fortunate to have the continued support of Dave Burton as our logbook officer for Club Registration. The changes in registration I think have also resulted in some increased club membership.

It has been great to see our club members promoting the Jaguar marque with involvement in a wide range of motoring activities including All British Day, The British Classic Tour, Bay to Birdwood, All Euro Day, Moonta Show & Shine, Drive Your Old Car Day, and Coffee & Cars.

We thank our cub patron Peter Holland for his continued support of our club. Thank you also to all club members for your support over the past 12 months.

Vice President’s Report – Philip Prior THE BOTTOM LINE No matter how you look at it this past 12 months has been another great year for our club and it has been a pleasure to be your Vice President.

If we ask the question, “What makes a great club?” There will be many different answers. But for me as I look back over the past year the thing that stand out more than anything else is “people”. A club is only as great as its members. Our club is called, the Jaguar “Drivers” Club of South Australia, and the emphasis here is deliberate and so important.

So it is that we have many people to thank as we look back over the past year.

Our club is made up of great people, and it is the inclusive attitudes of our members, where all kinds of people are welcome and made to feel at home that is so important. So first of all I say thank you to all our members.

We have a great team of people who make up our Executive Committee, who give many hours of their time to ensure the club runs smoothly. In particular I acknowledge the leadership of our President, Julian Lugg, our retiring Treasurer, Tim White and the Register Secretaries who have such an important role to play in communication and care of members. We have valued your leadership.

Every year we see individuals and teams of people working together to organise events and outings. It has been so again this year. These many people deserve our thanks.

The standout event this year of course was the 49th National Jaguar Rally. A huge thankyou goes to Di Adamson as Rally Director. But there were an additional 38 members who were involved in the organisation and running of the rally. An amazing number of people who gave their time over many months to ensure the success of the rally. Just another demonstration of the health of our club. To all of you we say thank you.

So there are lots of people participating up front.... but then behind the scenes so many others give of their time often with little recognition or acknowledgement.

There are our Vehicle Inspectors, our reps on other committees like All British Day, MSCA and FHMV. Those who look after our library, regalia, membership, log books, Classic Marque, web pages and Facebook and club events coordination. None of this stuff just happens magically by itself, real people... give generously of their time month after month on behalf of the club. We say to you all, thank you.

Finally on the theme of “people” we are grateful for the growth in membership we have experienced this year. (95 new members) and in particular a number of younger members have joined the club.

Another great sign of the club’s health.

We can now look forward to another great year in the months ahead.

Secretary’s Report – Alan Bartram Alan sends his thanks for your ongoing support throughout the year.

Treasurer’s Report - Tim White Overall we have total assets of $87,743.56 (2017 - $75,262.31), which includes term deposits of $28,139.30 (2017 - $27,113.11).

The result for the financial year was more than our budget with a surplus of $9,814.25.

A number of benefits and subsidies (direct & indirect) were passed onto members in a number of ways throughout the year. For example: presentation dinner, SA Jag Day, Christmas general meetings, calendars and register support. These benefits total some $16,434 (2017 - $18,346; 64%) or 52% of total income for this year.

This represents some 59% of your membership subscriptions.LINE THE BOTTOM The Jaguar National Rally was an outstanding success with around 80 more registrations received than originally budgeted for. Whilst we spent thousands more dollars on key events due to the increased income to provide added benefits for delegates we still achieved an overall surplus of $6,385.94. In addition, the ACJC grant of $7,000 was refunded.

We increased the membership fees this year and given the National Rally income this has allowed us to defer any further rises for the foreseeable future.

A big thank you to Simon Mudie from Eastwoods for doing the Audit again this financial year.

We will continue to take where possible a long-term approach to our financial position so that the club is well positioned for the future to weather any “unknown unknowns”, not simply providing short term benefits which have no real member payback.

Tim thanked everyone for his support over the past 11 years as Treasurer. He will continue on in other roles.

I MOVE that the audited financial statements for the year ended 30th June 2018 be accepted.

Editor’s Report – Dane Wilden The past 12 months have been very busy indeed, both for the club, and me personally. As you’re well aware, in 2018 JDCSA hosted the National Rally, which was documented thoroughly in Classic Marque with a pictorial report across two issues, the end product of which I was very pleased with. These issues proved popular with members, and gave those who were unable to attend a glimpse at the festivities and fun experienced by all who participated. Again, I want to thank members for their contributions to the magazine, because without your valuable input, I would have very little to put together each month!

This year bought about a change in employment for me, and with that, a reduction in my availability. I want to thank members for their understanding when monthly magazines ran a little late, and want you to rest assured I have done my best to provide you with the best club magazine possible.

Statistics available from our on-line publishing partner ISSU demonstrate that Classic Marque plays an important role in informing active club members, and engaging members who are unable to attend monthly meetings or register gatherings. I am delighted to report that the average readership for each issue of Classic Marque published since October of last year has increased by approximately 20% YTD, to approximately 172 reads per issue. Each issue produced an average reading time of 35 minutes, consistent with figures calculated and provided during the 2017 report. “Impressions” – that is, each time a Classic Marque publication is advertised to an Issuu user – have decreased slightly on last year’s figures, due to the implementation Issuu’s new “user pays” system in February of this year. The JDCSA does not pay a subscription fee to Issuu, and therefore does not purchase advertisement on the platform. Average impressions per issue this year have remained a respectable average of 1,165 per issue.

Looking ahead, it is my intention to continue the migration towards a digital future for the magazine, whilst not abandoning our loyal hard-copy subscribers. As we progress, the committee and club will need to consider efficiencies in the production of the club magazine. This may result in slight changes to format or frequency, but rest assured that I will continue to deliver our readership the highest quality publication and source of information on all things Jaguar related. I intend to continue to foster our relationship with key stakeholders and sponsors of the club and Classic Marque, including major sponsor Solitaire, who assist in the provision of the latest information on the Jaguar range direct from the UK. Members can look forward to more road tests of Jaguar’s newest models, and a national and global perspective on the Jaguar Land Rover company, while resting assured that Classic Marque remains a club-oriented magazine, where members continue to make the biggest contributions.

Finally, I want to continue to encourage members to contribute to the club magazine. Photographs, reports, stories, anecdotes, advice – anything (within reasonable good taste!) is welcome, and I thank those who have contributed this pastTHE year, making the magazine BOTTOM LINE as strong as it is today.

Julian outlined the service and activities of both Tom and Marj and Ron and Claire.

Both nominations were received unanimously by the members.

Julian congratulated Tom and Marj and Ron and Claire on being awarded Life Membership of the JDCSA. Office Bearer Elections: All positions were declared vacant and returning officer Patron Peter Holland took the chair.

Peter thanked the committee that has served the club over the past 12 months. They have served so much more than just administratively, particularly with the registers being the life blood of the club. A positive initiative has been the new members welcome luncheon. Peter thanked Di for her role as the National Rally director, particularly with the positive changes that have been introduced which resulted in a more relaxed and friendly event. The team surrounding this event were also thanked for their efforts.
