Club Torque Membership renewal is due by the end of June – along with logbook renewal if you have one (or more).

This year we are attempting to streamline processes by using TidyHQ for online membership renewal. On about the 9th June members should receive a membership renewal email with simple instructions on how to renew membership. For those few members without email addresses, normal membership renewal processes are still available.

Support is also available for those who wish help in using online processes.

We are still having great attendances at motoring and register events and it is great to see Jaguars being used and enjoyed. Congratulations to Peter & Pam Beaumont who received an a wa r d f or b est p r e se nt e d convertible in their E Type at the British Classic Tour held at Victor

Our annual dinner on Saturday 27th July is now open for bookings on TidyHQ with access via our website. It will again be at the Glenelg Golf Club.

Please mark the date of Sunday 20th October on your calendar for our SA Jag Day to be held at Civic Park Modbury.

In reviewing our club processes we are attempting to strengthen and updat e our f inancial management policy by having our executive sign off on our financial controls with an independent review of our finance records (instead of a formal audit). This will also mean an amendment to our constitution and we propose to put these changes to our July general meeting. This means we

will have the updated finance policy in place for our AGM in September.

Don’t forget that at the AGM there will be elections for President, Vice President, Secretary, Membership Secretary, Treasurer, Editor and Events Coordinator so if you are interested please consider nominating. A number of other positions/ roles are then appointed by the executive. By the AGM, elections will have also been held within registers for Register Secretary positions.

Club Torque Hello all and welcome to another edition of Classic Marque.

This edition really highlights the dual functions of Classic Marque as both a social magazine and a club news service. You will find two very important articles regarding club policy and procedure - one on a proposed constitutional change on page 5, and another on a revised membership renewal procedure on pages 16 and 17. Please be sure to read both of these articles closely and share your opinions at one of the club’s monthly General Meetings.

I encourage you all to welcome the proposed changes to the club constitution and the updated membership renewal procedure through TidyHQ. This updated procedure is incredibly simple and quick to complete and makes the life of our Membership Secretary Daphne much easier! A very big thank you to Daff and Tim White for their work on the TidyHQ database and the implementation of this new renewal process.

JDCSA Constitutional Change Currently the constitution requires that a recommended auditor is approved by the members at the AGM of the preceding year.

The Association Incorporation Act does not require we have an auditor until our income exceeds $500,000.

Currently it is around $30,000pa.

Generally an external auditor, when appointed tends to looks through the financial records which mirror the bank statement. The auditor cannot easily validate the internal controls. The Executive committee must own the financial management of the club and should sign off that the club’s policies are being met.

The recommended option which has been discussed by the Executive committee is to: adopt a new Financial Management Policy which includes a financial controls checklist. This was passed at the last committee meeting.

A constitutional change is recommended along the following lines (The highlighted words in red/italicised are the additions):

a statement to the committee. [f] The committee must validate and approve a financial controls checklist before the annual general meeting. [g] The accounts, together with the financial controls checklist and the statement by the independent reviewer shall be available at the Annual General Meeting for viewing by members.

It will be the committee’s role to determine an appropriate person to do the reviewing. They should not be a member of the committee, nor be conflicted. They should be competent to understand the task. No special qualifications are required.

It is imperative that the whole committee own the financial well-being of the club and this process ensures that this is the case. The Treasurer has responsibility for recording financial transactions and presenting a summary of these as a profit and loss statement.

The checklist points are quite common and practical. The sort of questions that any committee should be satisfied that the financial transactions, records and approach are reasonable and create a low risk environment for any wrongdoing.

This amendment actually creates a more transparent and robust assessment of the financial well-being of the club than what has been previously completed.

Log Book Renewal It is time to think about renewing your Historic Vehicle Log Book.

Your annual membership fees fall due by 30 June, as does your Log Book/s. If you fail to pay your membership or fail to update your Log Book by 30 June every year, your Conditional Registration becomes invalid and you must not drive your car as it will be unregistered and uninsured.

Even though your Log Book lasts for 3 years it must be updated EVERY YEAR by the Club.

If you sell your vehicle or resign your membership you must return the Log Book to the Club to be cancelled. Log Books are not transferrable to another owner or another car club membership. As soon as you have paid your yearly membership you can submit your Log Book to be updated in our records. If your Log Book is 3 years old it must be cancelled and will be recorded and replaced with a new one (your old Log Book will be returned to you).

We will be providing membership and Log Book renewal facilities at the June and July General Meetings, so bring your membership renewal, payment, and Log Books along, and time permitting your books can be updated on the night (if not they can be posted back to you within a few days).

If you cannot make it to a meeting (once you have paid your membership fee) mail your Log Book/s to the Jaguar Drivers Club of SA Inc, PO Box 6020 Halifax St, Adelaide 5000, and include a stamped, self addressed envelope. Log books are then generally returned within one week.

It is a Government requirement that the Club must notify the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure before the end of August of any Log Book Members who have failed to comply. If you are going away on holidays, please attend to these matters before you go.

50th National Rally Wodonga. General Comments – It was good.(Phil Prior – The Rally Tour on the way home was great). Rally was run over two locations. Worked well as people could unpack and relax. Well run by the committee.

Charity at the Jag Day (Speaker to be coming to general meeting) Please nominate special & different Jaguars to Phil Prior (special interest vehicles).

New members dinner. Angela is arranging.

National Rally – Perth 2020. Following SA’s example. 4 days Perth / 4 Days Busselton. A number of SA members are considering going.

Please consider supporting WA as they always support the eastern states events. We are looking into train transport ($1500 both ways) Enclosed Trailer. One way please consider back load WA->SA. Cheaper option. More info to come.

Secretary (Alan) – Secretary Position Available at the next election. Great role. Understanding how the club works. Not too hard.

McLaren Vale – huge JDCSA representation.

AB comment – We were the last cars out.

Dusty exercise. Slow parade and had to go walk about until the street cleared so we could access. Reports of an E-Type overheating. 600 Cars attended.

Treasurer (Heather) Tracking to budget. Committee approved 19/20 Budget at last meeting. Any receipts to Heather ASAP.

Sunday British Classic – Huge roll up of Jaguars. JDCSA complemented to the turnout.

Peter Beaumont won best convertible (E-Type Series 1.5).

Membership (Daphne) Thanks to Tim and Heather for fixing up errors that occur. Promoted TidyHq. Job is easier for the membership officer. Don’t forget your log book to be sent in. Averaging 2 new memberships a month.

Guest Speaker: Roland Donders – Presented new products on the market – Car mats and fender protectors.

At events like McLaren Value Classic and Vintage cardboard needs to be used. Roland’s friend makes mats. Decals and can be added for a cost. Lots of colours are available.

Fender Covers - avoid scratches when you are working on engine. Most have magnets, no good as it can pick up scrap and scratch. He is using sand weights to hold them on the car.

Mats come in multiple sizes.

Opening: Members arrived at John and Maria’s from about mid-day and gathered in the shearing shed to keep out of the intermittent rain and because that was where the barbeque was set up. A Register meeting was conducted before lunch. Robin thanked John and Maria for hosting our May meeting.

Previous Activities: The Register’s March activity was the very interesting visit to the Clipper Ship City of Adelaide and lunch on Tuesday 5th, all ably organised by Wendy and Onslow.

Club Business: National Rally: Two 120s attended the National Rally at Albury/Wodonga from 29 March to 1 April. About 10 cars attended from SA. The 2020 National Rally will be in WA from 26 March to 4 April, and after brief discussion it was resolved that we would investigate options for transport to WA. We will try to get some idea in the level of interest in road or rail transport at our next register meeting.

Logbooks: Will be able to be processed at the June and July Club general meetings.

Border Run: Robin gave a brief update on plans for the Border Run. Discussion with Vics has occurred. Information on dates and how to book accommodation will be available by early June. Glencoe historic shearing shed and the Valiant museum near Port MacDonnell were suggested as places to visit.

Magazine Article: Julian had a copy of a very comprehensive article about the XK 120.

Car Talk: Maria and John took the XK 150 to Tasmania to participate in the Wooden Boat Festival in February. John has had cam covers faced off by a skilled machinist.

The Luggs’ 120 has had plenty of use recently.

Evan is ‘gathering bits’ Richard has the XK running and noise in the Ford gearbox Rob reported ‘all cars OK’ and some issues with the magneto for the boat engine.

Closure: Robin closed the formal part of the meeting at 12:50pm After the shared lunch some of us enjoyed a tour of the sheds in the light rain.

A Penny for your thoughts...

And so the journey begins. Angela and I purchased a 1966 S Type Jaguar after seeing it on EBay. Sight unseen except for the attached pictures, we placed a bid while travelling to Swan Reach to stay with friends. Unsure of reception at our destination, we discussed price and placed a bid while having tea at Murray Bridge. With a minute to go and still having internet, we greeted our friends with SHHHHHH. We started laughing and our friends enquired, “What have you done...?”.

2 weeks later we hired a car trailer and headed to Melbourne to bring “Penny” as she is known, home. She was all intact but hadn’t been started for 7 years. The seats and timber work was in quite good condition but the rust holes had taken their toll on the hood lining and carpet. After replacing coolant, oil, battery, fuel pumps and fuel, we crossed our fingers, turned the key and pushed the button. To our utter amazement she roared into life. After a bit of fiddling she ran beautifully but we still had some other issues to deal with before hitting the road.

The brake lights were stuck on and the brake pedal didn’t give us any real confidence. After cleaning out the brake switch, rebuilding the booster and some new brake fluid our trip to motor registration for inspection was fast approaching. Penny passed and she was now a “South Aussie”. She got fancy number plates and took us to several different places. She even went to a wedding with 1 of her friends but the day came when she needed some major TLC.

She was completely stripped and sent to Yankalilla to have all rust removed and new paint. Rust in the lower half of the RHS rear quarter panel was quite bad but we were lucky enough to get a “new old stock� - not reproduction - complete rear quarter panel from Melbourne. A quick weekend trip to Melbourne and returned home with new a new panel and some other goodies.

Jagdaim in Melbourne were great. Several weeks later we picked up a rust free and very shiny Penny.

The engine was rebuilt and the transmission replaced, all other parts were stripped cleaned, plated or painted. Bumpers were sent to Dubbo to be re chromed. Front end was also stripped and new bushes, balljoints and suspension fitted. The hard part now was putting her back together without damaging anything.

The goal was to have her on the road for Christmas 2017 but that came and went. Next aim was 2018 Nationals and we made it with 3 weeks to spare. Thank you to everyone that helped get Penny back on her feet to grace the streets of Adelaide. - David Rogers

Membership Renewal Hello Fellow Members, This year we have updated our membership database which allows for the streamlining of records management, paying of fees, better financial records management and many other benefits including time saving to the volunteers who run the club.

On the 9th June you will receive an email from TidyHQ (our database software provider) inviting you to renew your membership of JDCSA for the 2019-2020 financial year.

All you need do is: - Click on the hyperlink (blue coloured text) which says “…renew your membership…” link in the email (1st paragraph) - This will open up TidyHQ and ask that you login using your email address and the password you set up (if you have not already completed this refer to the instructions below) - The following invoice will then come up:

- You will receive an email from Julian Lugg (President) thanking you for renewing and an email acknowledging your payment.

The process for Log Books is: - RENEW your membership fees (see above).

- Post your log book (registration papers are not required) with a stamped self addressed envelope to: Log Book Officer, JDCSA, PO Box 6020, Halifax Street, SA 5000.

- Dave will then process and post back to you, generally within the week.

- Some Log books can be processed at the July meting but this process only allows a limited number and it may be quicker and more convenient to you and Dave to post it to him.

If you have not previously logged into TidyHQ please follow the steps below to register and create your database password.

Go to www.jdcsa.com.au select Membership > Database (members only) > press “CLICK HERE” 1.This will take you to the database.

2.Click LOGIN at top right of screen.

3.Enter the email address you already have registered with JDCSA. 4.If this is your first login a screen will pop up asking you to “send a password email”. Click on that.

5.Go to your email inbox and follow the instructions on that email to set your password.

6.Once the password is set you will have access to the database.

7.Near the top of the screen you will see what you can access; memberships, events and shop.

To view and update your details, click on "memberships" then "my profile".
