Welcome to winter!

It has hit with a bit of a shock. We returned from a week in Bali, where the temperature was 29 to 30 degrees each day then getting off the plane at 6.30am to freezing cold. I may be exaggerating a little bit. I am looking forward to taking the XK8 out for a run and turning on the heated seats.

I will keep my report short with just a couple of important questions.

The first is, have you bought your tickets to the JDCSA Annual Dinner to be held on 30th July at the Glenelg Golf Club.

Come along and join us for a wonderful enjoyable evening of good food, great wine and fantastic company. Dancing is desirable but not compulsory. Tickets are $60 pp and available from Geoff & Marg Thomas, Bob and Daphne Charman.or Roz Holland The second is, have you considered putting your name forward for a role on our Executive Committee. Do not ask what JDCSA can do for you, but what can you do for JDCSA. I might have pinched that line from someone.

Editor’s Burble Philip Prior It is a sad reflection on my social life, that I recently decided that if I gave up my position as Editor of Classic Marque I would probably be bored out of my mind and drive my wife crazy.

So with this in mind I have decided to nominate again for the position. This should not deter others from also nominating and I would still like someone to put their hand up for the position of Assistant Editor to assist if and when I need it.

This leads me to mention that in September all positions on the Executive Committee will be declared vacant. We need members to consider carefully their response to these positions both in terms of their own nomination and in terms of who they might nominate for these important positions for the new club year.

Please see a list of positions to be filled and the nomination form on page 7. Nominations can be made up until the end of the General Meeting in September.

Most social groups and voluntary clubs can struggle at times to find willing people to volunteer to do the things that must be done to keep the group functioning in a healthy and positive manner.

The following little story has been shared before but it is time to share it again.

“This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.

Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.”

So rather than sit back and assume that someone else will step up and volunteer for the many tasks that need to be done and the many positions that need to be filled to ensure the success of our great club, how about putting your hand up and having a go.

Most clubs are like ours, full of ‘willing’ people, “those that are willing to get involved and those that are willing to sit back and let them” OK, so I feel better now having got that off my chest—how do you feel?

Guest Speaker: Debra from the Motor Sport Festival gave a very informative talk about this year’s event on the 19th and 20th of November.

The Prima Tour will leave from Victoria Pk Race Course, onto Collingrove, then Maggie Beers for morning tea. Then to Pennies Hill for lunch before continuing on to Goolwa.

Then back to Victoria Park. The cost is $595 per car.

Welfare: Evan Spartalis’s daughter Simone is in the Royal Adelaide. The club wishes her a speedy recovery.

General Business : It was noticed, a new Jaguar F Pace on display at the Burnside shopping Centre.

President’s Report: Di asked the meeting to consider positions on the Executive Committee soon to be vacated :President, Secretary and Events Co coordinator.

The day run to Carl Lindner’s was fantastic. 70 people attended and a great day was had by all.

Please also consider helping out with the Jag Day committee.

Vice President’s report: Looking for ideas for Jag Day at Elder Park re Entertainment and wet weather plans. Julian encourages all Jags of any condition to please come along and enjoy the day. More the merrier.

Secretary: Log books etc are all coming in fine.

Treasurer: All is OK on the finance department.

Editor: Phil apologised for the misprint in this month ’s magazine. It is June, not May. He is also getting good feedback, hence the four extra pages.

Sporting: Barry Kitts advises next Super Sprint is on 19th June. Then July on the 17th it is the Jaguar Drivers Club’s turn to supply marshals.

Membership: Daphne says everything going well at the moment. No new members.

Geoff and Dane have entered their Volvo in next year’s Shit Box Rally. This years rally raised 1.5million dollars for the Heart Foundation. Next year is from Adelaide to Cairns.

The lithium Polymer unit has capacity for 20 engine starts, comes in a small tidy case & is available on EBay for $ 92. Every car should have one.

He developed the Henry Hoke style device after experiencing problems with Judy’s Porsche Bob claims it can diagnose leaks from vacuum tubes, manifolds & fuel injectors. He is considering applying for a Patent.

2. John Lewis & Bruce Fletcher entertained us further by relating recent tales of woe concerning frustrating problems with their cars, mostly involving electronic components.

Factors included incorrect diagnosis by auto electricians & an RAA mechanic.

3. Jack Richardson admitted doing some silly things with the radio in his Daimler.

4. Bob Lynch also admitted to having locked himself in his caravan during the recent JDC caravan excursion.

Grace sang several popular songs, before teaming up with one of Adelaide’s up and coming talents, Robere de Charmonde. They sang a wonderful rendition of ‘I could have danced all night’, from My Fair Lady. She then did the same song but with the Register joining in with her, so when she’s appearing at Covent Garden in London, our Register will be able to say, “I sang with her.”

Grace and Matilda then joined us for a wonderful supper, where we passed the hat around to support her. Grace was almost speechless when we handed her an envelope with $580 to help her further her career in Italy.

A Jaguar F-Pace falls over at Goodwood Festival of Speed

A professional stunt driver has been left red-faced after a stunt in front of thousands of people at the Goodwood Festival of Speed went wrong – leaving a Jaguar F-Pace sitting on its side.

Details are sketchy, but it’s thought the Jaguar F-Pace was being driven on two wheels up the hill at low speed before the driver lost balance and the SUV tumbled over.

Behind the wheel was professional stunt driver Terry Grant – the man previously responsible for breaking a Guinness World Record when the F-Pace was first revealed last year.

Petrol Life in Fuel Tanks INTRODUCTION Petrol is a mixture of many components with different properties that contribute to the performance of the fuel.

When petrol is left out in an open container exposed to the air it will in time completely evaporate. As it evaporates the composition and properties will change because different components evaporate at different rates. This is a normal feature of petrol and the same process takes place in equipment fuel tanks. Where petrol is kept for more than a week in equipment tanks then it can become stale and it is better to add fresh fuel before using. Examples are classic, veteran and vintage cars and bikes, racing cars and bikes, drag cars, boats, dual fuel vehicles, lawn mowers etc.

Generally petrol will last in equipment fuel tanks for about 3 weeks at a temperature of around 20 deg C, after that it will perform better when fresh petrol is added.

Petrol will last in sealed containers for more than 6 months, while some breathing will take place this is not enough to significantly affect product quality.

IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION ON PETROL PROPERTIES Volatility restrictions Current State EPA legislation restricts petrol volatility in the summer period, generally November to March. In that period petrol will have less volatile components than at other times, generally the summer volatility of petrol is 30% lower than the winter volatility which means that the loss of lighter components in summer can be quicker.

However this is not usually an issue due to higher temperatures but can create problems in autumn if the summer fuel is held over. To avoid this fresh fuel should always be used in the April May period.

The Cat’s Whiskers Family Court Ruling from South Australia

A seven year old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Port Adelaide Football Team , whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.
