here comes a time in the life of every organization when change becomes necessary - or change is thrust upon it. We are now more than midway through our fifth year since the revitalization of your alumni association, and the reestablishment of the Eta Chapter at the University of Maryland. This is the ninth issue of our award-winning magazine, “The THIRD DEGREE.” But the members of your Executive Committee are seeing some changes that give us reason to pause - and to ask for your help. We ended our fourth year with a new record in membership - 334 alumni Brothers of the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa read the last edition of this magazine. But only 287 are reading this issue. And 30 of those 287 are new members - which means that only 257 of 334 Brothers renewed their membership. A renewal rate of 77% gives us a grade of “C” - and a reason to pause. Over the years, we have received many generous donations to our capital campaign, “Six Columns,” and we are able to boast that our Homecoming and Open House events have all been well-attended. But, it has been months since any new or repeat donations to “Six Columns” have been received. What we thought would be a conduit to annual charitable giving has not come to pass...and so we pause. We have many great opportunities for volunteers to step forward and lend their time and talents. In the areas of recruiting, publishing, social activities, networking development, fundraising, and advising our active chapter, we need help...but have not heard a knock at the door...and so we pause. “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their fraternity.” Please don’t wait to step forward and ask how you can help. In this issue you will find the areas where we are in need. Help us. When it comes to offering your time, talent, or treasure, please don’t pause and, of course, enjoy the read. Damn Proud,
Joseph E. Criscuoli, ‘82, Editor 2

Welcome
I
t is our distinct privilege to welcome you to the 4rd Annual Open House of the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa. Since January 25, 2012, when we moved into #2 Fraternity Row, our alumni have gathered together each spring semester with active members, family, and friends to celebrate our good fortune, our new house, and to renew our fraternal bonds. It has been seven years since the beginning of the recolonization process and four years since the re-chartering event and the initiation of our “Six Columns Capital Campaign. We are very fortunate that this house became available and that we were in a strong position to act on this opportunity. That we were able to so quickly accept the University's offer of #2 Fraternity Row is due to the remarkable and tremendous support of the members of our Alumni Association and their support for our Capital Campaign. We hope you will enjoy our Open House. We look forward to showing you all that your support and efforts have made possible, and to sharing with you in our pride in the return of the Eta Chapter to Fraternity Row. To help you to get the most out of your visit to the University of Maryland, we have prepared this guide to let you know what is available during our Open House event. Welcome, Brothers, Families and Distinguished Guests! - the Executive Committee of the Eta Alumni Association of Phi Sigma Kappa

Transitions - Part 1 If you really study every part of this magazine you will have found that there has been a change in the leadership team at the Eta Alumni Association. Brother Vic Alonso ’13 has resigned as First Vice President, citing his inability to get out from under the double blizzard in his neck of the woods. We thank Vic for his many contributions and hope to see him again soon. Stepping into the role of First Vice President is Past Chapter President Christopher M. Flood ‘13. ETA CHAPTER NEWS News Briefs from the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa at the University of Maryland
From the President’s Desk
T
he Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa has had an extremely productive Fall Semester. We have continued our push towards improving in several aspects of fraternity life including alumni relations, community service, Greek relations, recruitment, and social engagements. The brothers of the Eta Chapter have taken much pride in being a Phi Sig and it has shown in the tremendous efforts made by brothers every day. Now, with the second semester of my Presidency at its close I am glad to say that, in my opinion, I will leave the chapter in better shape than I found it. It was not an easy year by any means as the chapter experienced some ‘growing pains’, but it was a year that will help us as an organization in the future. Despite the minor hardships that the chapter faced with filling the chapter house or University expectations, I am amazed at all we were able to accomplish this semester. This semester the Chapter managed to expand the brotherhood even further, surpassing 75 brothers in total due to the most successful fall recruitment process we have had since I’ve joined the Chapter. Our formal fall rush week included events such as the traditional Crab Feast and a mechanical bull on our basketball court, which gained us eight new initiates. This was then followed up with an effective mid-semester recruitment which then grew our chapter by an additional seven initiates. With the Chapter being replenished with younger brothers, we became determined to make a bigger impact in the Greek, University, and College Park community. In support of our Grand Chapter’s partnership with the Special Olympics, we were able to reach out to the Special Olympics of Maryland (SOMD) and send 20 brothers to volunteer at both the SOMD Golf Event and the SOMD Regional Bowling Event. Our participation at these events allowed us as a chapter to form connections with SOMD and we are in the works to bring more SOMD events to the campus of Maryland and host a large scale polar plunge on campus this spring. Furthering our commitment to community service, our 10

Daniel Tatum ‘15 community service chairman organized a blood drive with Inova Blood Donor Services to help fill the local blood banks during this holiday season. On a much different front our social committee was hard at work to make sure that every brother had fun moments and memories that will stay with them long after their college years. We had several successful large scale events that were compliant with the Grand Chapter’s Risk Management Guidelines. The first of them was a Pillow Party which we hosted at Terrapin’s Turf Bar, and featured three sets of DJ’s and tons of special effects. The second was a registered Halloween party in our chapter house with the lovely ladies of Delta Gama. Lastly we decided to move our traditional Ugly Sweater Christmas Party into the chapter house as we decorated the outside with festive lights and had them pulse to the beat of classic Christmas songs which could be seen across the row. The chapter also managed to have an exciting (and safe) away weekend in cabins along Deep Creek Lake. Away weekend served as a weekend for the brothers and their dates to unwind and relax one last time before finals finally set in. Homecoming was another great week for the brothers to expand our network and gain connections with a new sorority that we were not too familiar with. Matched with Delta Phi Epsilon, we weren’t able to take home any trophies this semester but were did have a lot of fun and looked damn good in the process. Capping off a great week of socials, community service, and campus involvement was one hell of a Homecoming Tailgate and Game. The Eta Chapter passed up our normal IFC sponsored tailgate spot so that we could be involved in the annual Phi Sig Alumni Homecoming Tailgate. It wasnot a hard choice considering the prime location in Lot 1 and the delicious food supplied so graciously by the Eta Alumni Association. At the tailgate brothers helped set up and clean up the tailgate, but more importantly brothers both young and old, actives and alumni, shared stories, drinks, traditions, and pride for Maryland football. It was surely a
From the President’s Desk (continued) sight to behold. Finally the Eta Chapter is both happy and sad to say good-bye to three more seniors who graduated in December. Brothers Kroeker, Neigh, and Phelps have joined many new members of the Third Degree. We wish them the best of luck as they join the rest of the world, but remind them that they will always have a family of brothers for them back in College Park whenever they visit. This is where I take my leave and hand control of the chapter over to our well qualified and newly installed President Sebastian Lecha and his new Executive Board. This young and enthusiastic Executive Board is very passionate about the Eta Chapter and has us looking forward to a bright and promising next semester. Although I am no longer an official officer of the Chapter, I, along with many of the other thirty seniors, will continue to offer guidance to our new members and make sure that they exemplify all that Phi Sigma Kappa stands for. Damn Proud!

YOUR MISSION: Preserve the History of Greek Life at the University of Maryland By Anne Turkos, University Archivist
B
uilding on the success of the Greek Life centennial celebration during the 2013-2014 academic year, the University of Maryland Archives is beginning a project to encourage all UMD Greek chapters to preserve their history. The Archives has already taken several steps to improve coverage of Greek Life within its holdings by: Digitizing the Frieze (copies may be viewed via links on http://www.lib.umd.edu/univarchives/ thefrieze Collecting flyers distributed by chapters at the First Look Fair and incorporating these into the Archives’ University Publications Collection Adding descriptions of Greek records already in the Archives to the UMD Libraries’ Special Collections finding aids database, ArchivesUM: http://digital.lib.umd.edu/archivesum/index.jsp Interacting with current and alumni leaders of individual chapters Working with the staff of the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life to transfer departmental records to the Archives
These efforts have only scratched the surface, however, and the University Archives hopes to do much more with individual chapters to ensure that their legacy is preserved. Each chapter has an important history, and the Archives staff can help current brothers and sisters, as well as chapter alumni, to document that story and save it for future generations of members. The University Archives maintains the materials in its care under stable environmental controls (appropriate temperature and humidity) in a secure facility which greatly minimizes risks and enhances the records’ longevity. Our staff would not want the records of Phi Sigma Kappa to end up looking like this:
Without the proper care and protection, records can become severely damaged, like these items from a Greek chapter recently transferred to the University Archives. 12

Preserve the History of Greek Life at the University of Maryland (cont.)
Without the proper care and protection, records can become severely damaged, or need to be disposed of because they were too damaged to salvage due to years of neglect or an unforeseen accident. Once transferred to the University Archives, located in Hornbake Library, the records of the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa would be readily accessible for research in the Maryland Room, the Archives’ reading room, and our staff would work with chapter members, alumni and other researchers to obtain reproductions of materials upon request. The Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa can become one of the leading UMD Greek chapters to participate in this documentation project, and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Please contact me, University Archivist Anne Turkos, at 301-405-9060 or via e-mail at aturkos@umd.edu or Assistant University Archivist Jason Speck, at 301-405-9297 or via e-mail at jpspeck@umd.edu to donate materials to the Archives or if you have any questions about this project.
Anne Turkos, University Archivist, (clockwise from upper left) is well known to alumni from her interesting page in each issue of Terp magazine, entitled “ask Anne”; posed with then-oldest Eta Chapter alumni Dr. Howard T. Knobloch (‘33) when the good doctor visited College Park and told his story about his relationship with Testudo; is often photographed with the original, preserved Testudo, which resides in the Archives in the Hornbake Library.

April 27, 1931 – June 9, 2014 Louis Aubrey De Catur, known throughout his entire life as Jim, passed away suddenly of natural causes Monday, June 9, 2014, in Gdansk, Poland, after enjoying a wonderful trip to Scandinavia. Born April 27, 1931, to the late Ethel Mossburg De Catur and John De Catur, and raised in Washington, D.C., as the eldest of three children, he graduated through the ROTC program with a degree in English literature from the University of Maryland, returning later for his M.A. and Ph.D. While writing his thesis, he taught English at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1968-70. As an undergraduate, he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa social fraternity. He taught Shakespeare and world literature for 30 years, from 1970-2000 at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., and supported the arts by acting in college theatre and singing in the college choir. Jim developed a love of Chinese and Japanese literature, and studied Chinese language, as well as teaching as an exchange professor at Tohoku Gakuin University in Sendai, Japan, in 1989 and 1994. He also spent summers studying at Columbia, Stanford, and Oxford, England. In retirement Jim studied German, poetry, opera and the recorder, and taught Shakespeare at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. He sang in church choirs and participated on parish vestries; was three points shy of a grand master title in Bridge; and always had a group of friends with whom he played Bridge and poker. Jim developed a hobby of collecting early American furniture, culminating in the business venture Louis of Lewes at Practically Yours Antiques. Jim served two years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, in Minnesota and Arizona. In the 1960s he taught English for the Department of Defense through the University of Maryland program in Libya, France and Germany, and met his future wife, Carol Davis, at the Munich Oktoberfest, the beginning of nearly 50 years together. He returned to Germany with his family several times over the course of his life and enjoyed traveling extensively in Europe. He is survived by friends, loved ones and family - his wife Carol Davis De Catur; a son, Michael De Catur of Mill Valley, California; a daughter, Caroline De Catur Putnam and son-in-law Christopher Putnam of Berkeley, California.; a sister, Diane De Catur Nelson of Haymarket, Va.; a niece, Judy Nelson Eldawy and daughter Camile Eldawy of Littleton, N.C.; a nephew, Daniel Nelson; and dachshund Elsa. A brother, Don De Catur, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, University of Delaware, Frederick D. Thomas Building, Lewes DE 19958; or to the Louis Aubrey De Catur prize, Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA 19426. March 2015

Jonathan D. DiVirgilio
Eta Class of 1984
October 10, 1929 - January 11, 2015 Jon Di Virgilio, “Divo” to all who knew him, passed away on January 11th of this year due to kidney and liver cancer. He leaves behind a beautiful family wife Julie, daughter Jacqueline, a junior at Towson, and son Jordan, a freshman at Maryland. Divo and I met in high school, where we were the skinniest members of the varsity basketball team. He had the very sweetest jump shot. Once we got to Maryland, we played basketball behind the fraternity house nightly. It was his idea for the Phi Sig hoops team to wear red Chucks one season, which became a tradition. Additionally, Divo provided a massive benefit to Phi Sig: He was far and away the worst dancer in the fraternity. During parties, the presence of Divo on the dance floor made it safe for the rest of the brothers to dance without any fear of embarrassment. Divo’s dance style could be best described as a combination country jig and suburban white guy twist. And the best part was that Divo had no idea he was a terrible dancer. At Jon’s memorial service, his wife, Julie, spoke of Jon’s positive outlook on life, which she described as looking through “rose-colored glasses.” She talked of how much fun it was to see and live life through his eyes. Jon was diagnosed with cancer about six months before his passing. Jon remained upbeat during his treatment, which provided their family with one more summer, and one more holiday season with Jon, which they will always treasure. After Jon was diagnosed, Phi Sig Larry Devitt (West Virginia) organized lunch dates for Divo and our high school friends. The lunches were a time for us to gather and laugh, and to re-tell embarrassing stories about each other. More importantly, these settings allowed Jon, and us, to nearly forget, if only for a couple of hours, that he had cancer and was literally fighting for his life. I am glad I got to laugh with him one more time at our last lunch on December 12, 2014. I consider myself lucky to have been his friend. Before contracting kidney and lung cancer, Jon had other serious health issues. Jon suffered from diabetes, pancreatitis, and overcame a bout with testicular cancer. Given his health problems, Jon was unable to obtain life insurance. Jon’s brother, Doug, has established a trust fund to help pay for the college educations of Jon and Julie’s children. If you would like to contribute, please make checks payable to “Di Virgilio Family Education Fund” and send contributions to: U.S. Trust, 100 South Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2713 (Attn: Linda Fields). All contributions will be greatly appreciated by the Di Virgilio family. Jim Fields, H ‘85

John Wesley Dorsey, Jr.
Eta Class of 1958
June 13, 1936 – July 28, 2014 John W. Dorsey, former chancellor of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County who later returned to the classroom where he taught economics, died Monday of respiratory failure at his Laurel home. He was 78. "Many believe that he saved UMBC from several alternative fates, from absorption to closure, and set it onto the sound course that leads to today," said Joseph N. Tatarewicz, an associate professor of history at UMBC and director of the university's human context of science and technology program. "Dr. Dorsey became chancellor of UMBC, which is equivalent to president today, in 1977 during a difficult period for the university," he said. The son of John Wesley Dorsey Sr., a farmer, and Abbie Dorsey, a schoolteacher, John Wesley Dorsey was born in Hagerstown. He was raised at Sherrick House in Sharpsburg, the family farm located within the confines of the Antietam battlefield. "Dr. Dorsey grew up helping his father on the farm and by bringing in hay and driving the tractor across the Burnside Bridge," said his son-in -law, Tim Small of Ashburn, Va. After graduating from Boonsboro High School, he was a 1958 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, and also graduated from the London School of Economics. He earned his doctorate in economics in 1964 from Harvard. In 1963, he joined the economics faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, and in 1965, took a one-year leave of absence to serve as a staff economist on President Lyndon B. Johnson's Council of Economic Advisors. Dr. Dorsey returned to College Park in 1966, where he served as director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research for four years. He was vice chancellor of administrative affairs from 1970 to 1977 and acting chancellor of the College Park campus from 1974 to 1975. In 1977, Dr. Dorsey was named chancellor of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, which was the university's newest campus. During his tenure at UMBC, enrollment rose from 5,200 to 8,150 students. Average SAT scores of incoming students increased nearly 100 points, and the faculty grew to 400. UMBC's annual budget expanded from $18.6 million to $46.2 million. "The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is but 13 years old; yet it is difficult to identify more than four other major public university campuses in the nation that have progressed as well in the development of excellence in a comparable period," Dr. Dorsey wrote in a 1979 article in The Baltimore Sun. "Already it has established an extraordinary record for placing its graduates in medical, dental and law schools, in graduate schools of business and in graduate programs ranging in content from ancient studies to biochemistry," he wrote. "By every measure, UMBC has, from its inception, pursued its goal of delivering first-rate comprehensive education in Baltimore," wrote Dr. Dorsey. Dr. Dorsey stepped down as chancellor in 1985 when he was named special assistant to then-University of Maryland President John S. Toll, where his assignment was to coordinate university efforts in economic development. "Eight years is an above-average time to be in a chancellorship, and I can say quite honestly it's good to change," Dr. Dorsey told The Sun at the time. While an undergraduate at College Park, Brother Dorsey received the Byrd Citizenship Prize for Top Male Student at the University of Maryland at College Park and served as Secretary for Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) National Men’s Leadership Honor Society. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi for Dedication to the Unity and Democracy of Education, and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities for Leadership and Service to the Community and School. Brother Dorsey served on the Executive Council of the Student Government Association, was Treasurer and President of the Men’s League, Chairman of the Elections Board of the Student Life Committee, Treasurer of the Men’s Dorm Council, a member of the Freshman Orientation Board and Phi Eta Sigma - the Freshman Men’s Honor Society. In the spring of 2014, just prior to his passing, Brother Dorsey was inducted into the University of Maryland Centennial Honor Roll honoring outstanding fraternity and sorority members over the last 100 years.

James Vincent Gilder December 2, 1963 – July 8, 2014 Life is not fair. For if it were, you would not be reading this tribute to my friend and fraternity brother, Jamie Gilder. Jamie passed away at age 50 on July 8, 2014 at his home in Houston, Texas, after a courageous two year battle with colon cancer. He leaves behind a beautiful and loving wife, Dee Dee, two sons, Riley, age 9, and Reid, age 8, and numerous family members and friends. He was one of my roommates at Maryland, we were ushers in each other’s weddings, partners in crime over countless road trips, and he was my dear friend for more than 30 years. If you went to the University of Maryland in the early to mid-80’s, and you were a member of the Greek system, you knew Jamie Gilder. For the Phi Sigs during this era, he was likely your first and favorite bartender. Jamie was that guy who made every event fun. He was a great fraternity brother and fantastic ambassador for Phi Sig during his time at Maryland and thereafter. Jamie’s funeral was incredibly sad, yet inspiring. There were about 40 guys from all over the country from college, beach houses over the years, and bars he worked at in attendance. On the day of his funeral, many of us sat for hours after breakfast telling Jamie Gilder stories - each one wilder and funnier than the next. As heartbroken as we were, it felt good to laugh in between tears at our favorite memories of him. And leave it to Jamie to set up an open bar reception at the church hall immediately following the service. We went to Houston to celebrate his life, not to mourn his death, which is what he wanted. When I think of Jamie, I see him bounding into a room with his huge smile, perfect hair, and ever-present glint of mischief in his eyes. He was habitually an hour late for everything (“Jamie Time”), which was part of his charm. He packed about 250 years of laughter, love, carousing, and real living into his 50 years. He lived as if he somehow knew his life would be shorter than normal. As Phi Sig Harry Geller so aptly stated years ago: “I spent a week with Jamie Gilder last night.” When I think about the times in my life that I have laughed longest and hardest, Jamie was often there. Life has become less fun without Jamie, and also more expensive. Whenever you were out with Jamie, you would have to physically wrestle with him in order to prevent him from picking up every bar tab. And on those rare occasions when someone else got away with paying a tab, Jamie would nonetheless leave the waitress or bartender another tip-bigger than what was originally left. I once took him to a Redskins playoff game at RFK Stadium, and he bought us a full case of beer from the first vendor who approached us before the game. He then started passing out beers to those around us. That was Jamie. On a road trip to Houston a few years ago, Jamie took a group of us to one of his favorite restaurants for drinks and dinner. After a large pitcher of Petron margaritas, Jamie called the waitress over to order another pitcher. The

waitress leaned in and quietly said, “Excuse me sir, I just want to let you know that those pitchers are $75.” Without hesitation, Jamie smiled at her and said, “Thanks - please bring us three more.” That was Jamie. After he graduated from Maryland, Jamie began a long and very successful career in wealth management, ultimately going to work for Oppenheimer & Co. He, Dee Dee and the boys moved to Texas about eight years ago after he was tapped to manage Oppenheimer’s Houston office. They embraced their new home and quickly became immersed in their support of community and charitable causes. Jamie’s employees at Oppenheimer were devastated by his passing. They spoke warmly of how he treated everyone at the office the same, whether they be his top sales producers or the mail room clerks. That was Jamie. Despite his health condition, we had three long guys’ weekends (12-15 guys each time) with Jamie over the past year. One of these trips was to Florida, and it fell in the midst of his sons’ little league baseball playoff run. Jamie was one of the team’s coaches, and twice flew back and forth from Florida to Houston in the middle of a mini road trip with his college buddies for the semi-finals and championship game. Jamie, of course, had to be there to see his boys capture the title. That was Jamie. The last of our road trips with Jamie was in early April when a large contingent of Phi Sigs and others traveled to Austin, Texas. Upon seeing Jamie in Austin, it was clearly evident that cancer was robbing him physically. However, he never complained about his plight for a second, and remained incredibly positive and upbeat until he passed. Over our more than 30 years of friendship, I cannot remember a single conversation or encounter with Jamie during which we both did not laugh out loud-even after his cancer diagnosis. That was Jamie. Singer/songwriter Warren Zevon recorded his final album, “The Wind,” all the while knowing he was dying from cancer. On one of these songs, “Keep Me In Your Heart,” he wrote: “Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams, touch me as I fall into view. When the winter comes, keep the fires lit, and I will be right next to you.” This is a beautiful lyric, and it is how I am going to remember Jamie. I believe he will always be with me. Cancer did not define Jamie Gilder. Rather, Jamie was defined by how he so positively impacted the lives of his family and friends, and by how much we all loved him. Jamie’s dignity and grace in his final years is a testament to which we can all aspire. I do not know that I will ever fully accept that he is gone. I loved him like a brother and will miss him every day. Jim Fields, H ‘85

Robert Paul Lamolinara
Eta Class of 1984
March 6, 1964 - August 15, 2014 Robert Paul Lamolinara passed away peacefully on August 15, 2014 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. A memorial service and celebration was held near Annapolis on Aug 19th and attended by over 45 Phi Sigs and more than 500 other friends & family. Of note was the colorful attire that Rob had requested be worn by everyone attending. Rob was born on March 6, 1964 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He attended Greater Latrobe High School where he wreaked havoc on both the community and football field (1st team All-Foothills Conference defensive end in 1981). After graduation, he followed his sister Lisa (Theta ’78) and his brother David (PSK – ETA ’82) to College Park and Frat Row. Rob had quite an active and illustrious career during his time at #7 on the row. He not only served ETA as chapter President in 1985 but also served on the Phi Sig regional leadership team as vice president. Rob was Phi Sig… whether it was leading the RUSH support team to help the chapter at Stetson in Deland, Florida (real tough duty!) or convincing his parents to continue hosting the legendary annual pledge retreats at the Lamolinara cabin in western Pennsylvania. Rob was also ingenious on the social side as well, being one of the instigators of the infamous Bahama Mamma parties along with many other schemes that only can be acknowledged among the initiated. The stories are still alive! Rob met his future wife Christine (Pi Phi) while at Maryland and received his B.S. in Industrial Manufacturing in 1986 before pursuing a career with Northrup Grumman as director of manufacturing. He lived most of his adult life in and around the Baltimore/Annapolis area and remained close to his American-Italian roots having recently completed a beautiful refurbishment of his row house in Little Italy. He also was captain and “best player” on the Medigans (Italian pronunciation for “Americans”) Bocce Team in that same neighborhood. Rob’s passions included his kids and in most recent times his support as a proud parent of the Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as, Sons of Italy and served on the board of directors for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. As most know, Rob actively provided support for the re-chartering of ETA chapter and the drive to “get back to the row”. Rob fought a courageous battle, bullheadedly confident and upbeat, carried by the strength of his own character as well as your many messages and texts. Rob is survived by his parents, Edward and Joanne Lamolinara of Latrobe, PA, daughter Bethany of Philadelphia, son Dominic at Syracuse University, daughter Alison, at NC State and a cherished friend in Christine of Arnold, MD. - David Lamolinara, H’82

New Eyes on the Guys “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” – Steve Jobs Many of the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa can already attest to my love of quotes. The words litter my bulletin boards and are frequent fliers in our lunch conversations. Of all of the quotes that resonate with me, none better describe my decision to willingly live with 28 undergraduate fraternity men than the one above.
After college, I decided to “follow my heart and intuition,” leave my science degree behind, and hit the road as a national Tri Delta Field Consultant. With two 48.5-pound suitcases in tow, I took 89 flights to 50 different college campuses and shared my love for leadership and values with sorority women across the country. After living and breathing my work for a year, I was hesitant to say yes to another intensive Greek life experience. However, with that quote in mind, I decided once again to follow my passion, attend the University of Maryland to pursue my master’s degree in Higher Education, and accept a position as a Resident Director for the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Reflecting on that leap of faith, it’s hard to believe that a semester has already passed. While I have one younger brother, a sophomore at Penn State and the new President of his own fraternity, I’m still adjusting to the noise, 3 AM wake-up calls, and cleanliness - or lack thereof. That being said, nothing quite compares to the relationships that come with younger brothers, and I’m lucky to have been welcomed by the wonderful brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa. Their tendency to seek advice, drive me crazy, and express concern for my growing coffee addiction all in one interaction isn’t something that I would trade for the world. In addition to my quote collection, “Make Good Choices” has become a motto of mine. It’s the last thing seen when you exit the chapter house, and it echoes throughout the halls, whether in relation to going to class or choosing how to behave on a Friday night. While I try my best to encourage the men of PSK to follow these three words, I myself have grown to do the same. With one entertaining, loud, and enlightening semester under my belt, I can honestly say that I made a good choice in following my heart and intuition and becoming the new House Mom for the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa. Thanks to the chapter and many alumni for welcoming me so far - I look forward to more introductions in the future! Lindsey L. Templeton is the new Resident Director for the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa at the University of Maryland. 36

I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA as a Steelers fan (and proud of it, despite my recent move to Ravens country!), but decided to leave the City of Black and Gold for warmer weather when it came time for college. I joined the Class of 2013 at the University of Richmond - Go Spiders! - as a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major. My four incredible years were filled with football games in sundresses, late nights in the library, and a growing love for Greek life. I became the Chapter President of the Gamma Eta chapter of Delta Delta Delta in my junior year, and my passion has flourished ever since.
