While enjoying the race this weekend, please be sure to thank all of our volunteers, without them this event would not be possible. Stop by and chat with our sponsors – local businesses and their people play an important role in supporting the success of this community event for over 35 years.
Please make sure that your family and/or support teams take a look at the Spectator Information section of the Athlete Information Guide and use it as a resource to help support you in your experience. For the most up-to-the-minute information about the event, please refer to our Facebook page.

High School State Championships Exemption: All high school athletes who finish any of the State High School Championships will automatically qualify for Sprint-distance (pending they are at least age 15 as of December 31, 2023.)
Any state championship that occurs after June 1, 2023 will qualify for BOTH 2023 AND 2024 Toyota Age Group Nationals. The qualification criteria for 2024 Age Group Nationals is subject to change from what it is for 2023. Click here to review the full 2023 qualification criteria for Toyota Age Group Nationals.
Athletes do not have to be a resident of a state to win that state’s championship. Any age group athlete competing in an age group division is eligible to win any state championship.
Gates to Shawnee Mission Park will open at 4:30am on Sunday, July 9th.
The ONLY access point to the park will be through the Theatre in the Park entrance. Parking attendants stationed at the Theatre in the Park will direct you to a designated spot, this is to ensure everyone has a parking space.
A shuttle bus will be available. The bus will run from 4:30-6:20am and will resume after the last cyclist is o the course at approximately 10:00am.
Please keep in mind that if you have spectators coming to cheer you on, they will need to arrive prior to 6:15am in order to catch the bus down to the marina.
Thank you for following the parking attendants directions and being kind when entering the park.
We understand that one of the biggest things athletes struggle with on race day is what to do with their hair so that their helmet will fit and be comfortable - BRAIDS are 100% the way to go!
Thanks to our wonderful group of volunteers, we are excited to host a battle braid station at packet pickup on Saturday, July 8th from 1p-5p as well as on race morning from 4:30a to race start! This is free to athletes with a suggested donation of $10. All donations will benefit the Kansas KIPS Gymnastics Team.

How it works: Multisport athletes are some of the most competitive people out there, so adding a competition INSIDE of a competition was a no brainer! Clubs will compete against each other to earn the title of Champion Club.
Awards: The Club with the most points will be crowned the champion and will have their Club’s name and year engraved on the large traveling trophy. Trophy will remain with Champion Club until the next event. Champion Club will also win 2 complimentary entries into the following year’s event. And of course, the Champion Club will earn the bragging rights that they’ve conquered the Dam Hill. The Club with the second highest score will receive 1 complimentary entry into the following year’s event.
Point Summary: Clubs receive one point for each member that competes in the event (participation point) as well as FIVE points for each member that volunteers (volunteer participation points). Relay participation points are detailed below. In addition to these points, Clubs earn points for members finishing in the following places. The Club’s total score will be divided by the total number of athletes participating for that Club to get the Club’s final score/average.
Relays – one participation point per person competing on the relay, depending on relay size this could be 2 or 3 points. All relay members must be a part of the Club to earn these points.
Overall 1st 5 pts
Overall 2nd 4 pts
Overall 3rd 3 pts
If you thought that your athlete was the only one going to get a workout on race day … you might want to think again. Spectating and cheering is not for the faint of heart in the triathlon world. There is going to be a lot of excitement on race day so embrace it and take it all in. We’d like to encourage you to join your athlete at packet pickup and/or orientation and scope out the course so you know where the best vantage points are. We highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes, bringing a chair, sunscreen, and water. Know what your athlete is wearing so you don’t miss them on the course. As a spectator, you have the important job of cheering on ALL participants! It is no secret that athletes will become tired along the course, but that’s where YOU step in to keep them going! We can’t thank you enough for encouraging all of our athletes on race day.
Download the Mtec Results app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store to track participants, view post race results, and stay up to date on event information. Once downloaded, open the app and search for Shawnee Mission Triathlon or find Shawnee Mission Triathlon under the lists of upcoming/recent events. When viewing a participant, you can opt into realtime tracking notifications by tapping the heart in the top bar.
Stop by the white information tent in the northwest corner of the Shawnee Mission Park marina parking lot to pick up a free cheer sign and personalize it for your athlete! Signs will be available at both packet pickups as well as on race day.
Spectators and athletes will ALL park at the Theatre in the Park at Shawnee Mission Park. You may either walk down to the marina or take the shuttle bus. The bus will begin running at 4:30am and run until 6:20am. It will resume after the last cyclist is o the course around approximately 10am. If you choose to walk, please stay on the trails once you reach the main park road to ensure the safety of both you and the athletes.
Get a taste of Kona! Kona Ice will be available for purchase before, during, and after the event.
To ensure the safety of everyone, we ask that you cheer athletes on from behind the fenced areas and be cautious the entire time you’re at the event. The finish line is on the north side of the main park road, meaning you’ll need to cross the road where cyclists are riding. Please be sure to only cross the road at the crosswalk. We ask again, that you exercise the highest level of caution as you do so.
We deliver Mental Health Go Bags to hospitalized veterans to let them know we are here to support them and give them a bag full of items they can use as a coping mechanism and provide the connection to other veterans.
We participate and lead outreach events around the city, centered on Suicide Prevention, PTSD, and removing the Stigma of Mental Health. Engaging our veterans and their families in the community provides an open environment for them to speak freely. Showing them that people care and that there is Hope.
Getting veterans out of isolation and into nature where they can enjoy camaraderie and peer support from other veterans who know exactly what they are experiencing can be crucial in making a veteran feel that they are not alone.
Our mission is to provide immersive experiences for our nation's heroes that are designed to eliminate isolation, foster hope, and build camaraderie; eradicating suicide by creating lives of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment."

This award seeks to recognize individuals who exemplify the positive spirit of the sport through acts of sportsmanship, leadership, and their e orts to grow a more diverse and inclusive multisport field.
Cecilia had an infectious smile and bright eyes that brought a joyful light to everyone around her. Despite having Cerebral Palsy, which impacted her physical and verbal abilities, as well as caused significant health challenges, she lived an active, adventurous, and full life. She refused to be defined by her limitations, and instead spent her life displaying her abilities to family, friends, and community to promote change and inclusion for ALL. Over the years, Cecilia completed countless road races, half marathons, marathons, and triathlons. Her multisport debut came in 2013 at the Open Options Shawnee Mission Triathlon & Duathlon setting the stage for inclusion in Kansas City area races. While breaking down barriers, Team Cecilia enjoyed years of being welcomed, and often recruited, to participate in most of the area’s triathlons. Triathlon is a sport unlike any other. Triathletes come in all shapes, sizes, speeds, strengths, abilities, and experience levels. It is one of the most welcoming - to newbies, older athletes, youth, experienced, pros, and those with challenges - as few enter the sport as masters of all three disciplines (swim, bike, run).
For Cecilia, triathlon was where she showed perseverance and determination, despite her challenges, that inspired fellow athletes. She motivated many to enter the sport and encouraged everyone to have fun and support one another. In addition, she made the triathlon community aware that even athletes with few words and di erent abilities hold a strong desire to belong, to be included, to be heard, and to be acknowledged.
