ike the old adage that it takes a village to raise a child, preparing future healthcare professionals often requires a collective effort. At the College of Coastal Georgia, radiologic science students recently participated in a realistic trauma simulation made possible through the collaboration of radiology and nursing faculty, program alumni, and community volunteers. Together, they created an immersive learning environment designed to strengthen students’ clinical skills and confidence. Alumni participants (pictured above, from right to left) Morgan Pillow ’25, Morghan Reeder ’24, Danita Dasher ’25, and Karlee Shores ’25 stepped into the roles of various healthcare professionals, including nurses and laboratory technicians, while current radiologic science students demonstrated their ability to navigate a trauma scenario and obtain X-ray images. Dasher volunteered for the simulation because she wanted to give back to the program that has meant so much to her. “It’s like a full circle moment because this was me last year. Being on the other side of it is really cool and interesting to see,” Dasher said. “I just love this program so much. The faculty helped me a lot during it, so I just want to do my part and give back and volunteer to help the next class.”

8

The simulations were especially beneficial to Dasher when she was a student. “All the simulations that they do here, you will definitely see it at some point—either as a student or once you become a tech. It just makes you a lot more efficient when you find yourself in situations like these.”

SHARING THE HARVEST

all Fest 2026 was once again a hit, with the pumpkin patch serving as one of the event’s main attractions. Students had the opportunity to pick, carve, and decorate their own pumpkins. This year’s pumpkins were provided by Coastal alum Camren Hall ’23, owner of Hall’s Local Farm in Crawfordville, Georgia. This was Hall’s first year growing pumpkins, and judging by the smiles on students’ faces, it was an obvious success. “I got to see so many creative designs, and I’m truly thankful for how everything turned out. It was a great experience seeing something I grew become part of such a special event,” he said. Hall’s Local Farm seeks to address food insecurity by providing local, fresh, and affordable produce to residents in the community.

ARCHIVIST’S LOG: CHARTING THE COLLEGE’S HISTORY

What is something in your educational or professional background that helped you prepare for this role? Mylynda: Having internships and work-study positions while I was an undergraduate student helped prepare me for this role, as I have a student’s perspective recollection. It is helpful when I am teaching and mentoring students about archives and special collections.

“Tale of Two Archivists” By Mylynda Gill, Librarian & Archivist, Assistant & Meghan Crews, Public Services Librarian & Archivist

Meghan: I benefited from a graduate student assistantship as well as a few archival internships. I feel like one of the great benefits to these experiences was the mentors I had that really helped me gain confidence in working in archives and helped set the tone on how to work in the field.

or this month’s issue of “Archivist’s Log: Charting the College’s History,” and just in time for Archives Month in October, we are announcing that there has been some restructuring within the Coastal Georgia Libraries & Archives. Both Mylynda Gill and Meghan Crews have added the official titles of archivists to their roles and will be dedicating more of their time to the archives. Michele Johnson has also had her title changed to Assistant Director for Public and Archival Library Services and will now be overseeing Meghan and Mylynda and their work. They will all be collaborating and working on getting the college archives more accessible to the College of Coastal Georgia community. Therefore, for this month’s issue, Meghan and Mylynda decided to complete a quick interview with each other to help our alum to get to know them better!

What are some of the projects you are looking forward to working on for the college archives? Mylynda: There are so many...Right now, I am looking forward to making our records more accessible, especially through the use of our Coastal Scholars Repository. Meghan: There are a lot!!! I am looking forward to getting our photographs better organized and readily available for the public to view. It is a larger task than you would think, but I think once it is done, it will be a great resource. 10

What has been your favorite find in the college archives? Mylynda: Finding out through a student newspaper article, that our institution was the first one in the USG system to allow female students to wear shorts on campus. Meghan: My favorite find in the college archives is finding the picture of the first librarian for our institution, Eugenia R. Babylon. She looks exactly like how you would picture a librarian! We hope you enjoyed reading this month’s article from the college archives. As always, if you have any questions or would like to make a donation please email archives@ccga.edu. Meghan Crews

Until next month, Hail the Sail, Mariners!
