The Office of Student Life hosted its annual Student Affairs Leadership Awards. Members of the college community, families, and friends gathered together to

honor students and student organizations who've shown outstanding leadership at the College. Awards included the Student Worker of the Year, the Inspiration Award, and the highest honor the Student Hall of Fame.

HONORS DAY

The College celebrated the academic excellence of students at the annual Honors Day

ceremony. Students were recognized for their academic achievements and dedication to their studies.

On April 8, 2024, Dr. Patrice Edwards and the Astrology Club at Coastal Georgia hosted a viewing event of the partial solar eclipse. The eclipse was recorded and photographed using a Seestar S50 refractor telescope. Two Orion refractor telescopes with solar filters were used by students, faculty, and staff to look at the eclipse. A video of the eclipse was captured by Patrice and Brandon Edwards.

CLASS NOTES

Coastal Community health announced the promotion of Caitlin Shearer ‘18 to the role of Chief Operating Officer. She began her career with Coastal Community Health as a front-desk receptionist and rose through the ranks, having held positions as a revenue cycle manager and director of operations. Caitlin earned a bachelor’s in healthcare administration from the College.

After earning his bachelor’s in American Studies, Camren Hall ’23 went on to found Hall’s Local Farm in Crawfordville, Georgia.

Nicole Price ‘23 has joined the staff of the College of Coastal Georgia as a Career & Academic Advisor, reporting to Teakla Jackson, associate director of Career & Academic Advising. She earned her bachelor’s in American studies. In her spare time, she enjoys painting with watercolors, writing and gardening. Nicole has also recently taken up disc-golfing.

BREAKING GROUND ON THE COMMUNITY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Officials stuck the toes of blue shovels with white handles the colors of College of Coastal Georgia into a mound of soil on April 17 to ceremonially celebrate the construction of a new performing arts center.

College President Michelle Johnston said the center will be transformative and that it is “a dream built on the hopes of community.”

She praised the partnership of the college, the University System of Georgia and the Glynn County Schools.

School Board Chair Eaddy Sams said from the beginning, discussions centered on providing a place for the community to experience the arts.

The center will feature an auditorium for 1,000 guests, professional-level acoustics and space to accommodate musical concerts, dance performances, lectures, meetings and other community events.
