Interview with 2022 JCI President JCI Senator Argenis Angulo

Shirley Pang: JCI Senator Argenis, Welcome To Malaysia! Thank you for taking the time to meet with us today for this interview. First of all, could you please share with us your JCI life? JCI Senator Argenis: My JCI life is a long and amazing story of change. I discovered and joined JCI in 2001, I was watching TV and a local journalist was interviewing my local president who talked about the chapter’s projects. I called the number provided and the chapter invited me to my first leadership school in JCI. When I read the JCI Creed, I felt this is a place for me to develop myself and since when what has happened to my life is absolutely amazing. I took part in different projects, lead numerous projects, and took the challenge to join the local Board of Directors. I served as JCI Zulia Local President in 2008 and JCI Venezuela National President in 2011, then I start my JCI career internationally and served different positions internationally over the years. I have the honoured, pleasure and the duty to serve as JCI President this year. My story of JCI is amazing and it is a “Story of Change and Challenges” where I received huge support from extraordinary teams as well as members from my Local Organizations, National Organization, region, and even from the entire world!

Shirley Pang: JCI Senator Argenis joined JCI since 2001, it has been more than 20 years. What is the biggest motivation for you to serve JCI for such a long time? JCI Senator Argenis: This August I will celebrate my 21th year in JCI. The biggest motivation for me to serve JCI for more than 20 years is to serve the country, be part of the solution, and retribute all the gifts that this organization has provided me in terms of experiences and confidence. Shirley Pang: How do you see the development of JCI in the coming future? There are so many youth organization nowadays. What makes JCI so special and why should youngster choose JCI?

JCI Senator Argenis: I can see an amazing future for our organization and especially now because we are working on this strategic plan for the next coming years which will establish steps that we should follow for an amazing future for our organization. The main difference between JCI and other youth organizations is that JCI has a great focus on developing leadership skills in providing leadership development opportunities. JCI focuses not only on creating positive impact to the planet by creating amazing projects, but also to ensure the members participate in these projects and initiatives can develop their leadership skills and being part of the solution.

Shirley Pang: What are the five tips and advices that you would like to give to JCI Malaysia members?

JCI Senator Argenis: The five advices and recommendations that I have the pleasure to present to my beloved JCI Malaysia members are summarized as the “A.B.C.D.E”.

Arrive

You will need to ensure that you have clue on what is your next goal and work with discipline until you “arrive” and achieve the goal.

Be there

For instance, if your goal is to be part of the local Board of Director, you have to work hard and achieve the goal. Achieve the goal is not enough, you should also make sure that you always be there for the organization and members.

Challenge yourself

Challenges here refer to the opportunities that this organization provides you. For instance, members invite you to lead a project but you think you are not prepared enough to be a leader. But if you are aware that you need to challenge yourself, you will say “Yes I will do that”! This would be challenging but in the end you will be a better leader!

Dream

“Dream” is thinking about the future with a mission. I can tell you that if you work with discipline, know what is your goal, work hard toward achieving the goal, always be there and challenge yourself, you will definitely be the dreamer and also a winner. This is because you will learn along the way and your enthusiasm will ensure your dream become reality one day.

Enjoy

Ensure you enjoy every single moment in JCI! For example, enjoy when you serve the people and community through different projects, enjoy working with different amazing teams, just to name a few. You have the opportunity that not all people have. Just enjoy each single moment in JCI!

Shirley Pang: What do you want to say to JCI Malaysia members?

JCI Senator Argenis: First of all, thank you JCI Malaysia members for the amazing job that you have been doing in each region of Malaysia. I would like to encourage you to continue serving the community and keep going with the amazing job that you have been doing. Of course, JCIM members, you can always count on me not only as a president, but also as a friend! I really hope to see you all very soon again. All the best JCI Malaysia! Congratulations!
