MESSAGE FROM LOCAL PRESIDENT

Greetings from Quarter 3!

Time flies, but that hasn't stopped JCI Luyang from continuing to serve our community and making a positive impact on those around us. This quarter, we successfully hosted several major events and projects that we can be proud of, including our much-anticipated 12th Installation and Awards Ceremony, which also marked our 14th anniversary celebration. Additionally, we organised another round of the Garage & Art Sale, this time during the second day of Hari Merdeka. The response was overwhelming, with almost double the number of vendors compared to our previous Damai Community Garage & Art Sale.

None of this would have been achievable without my dedicated team of members. I am pleased to share that we have accomplished the key targets set earlier this year, which included hosting two significant and impactful projects. At this point, our focus is on wrapping up the year, preparing award submissions, and finalising reports as we transition smoothly into the next phase.

As we move into the final quarter, I encourage everyone to stay motivated and continue to support one another. Let’s maintain the momentum, finish strong, and celebrate our collective achievements. Together, we are making a real difference in our community, and I am confident that the future holds even greater opportunities for us to grow and serve.

Yours in JCI,

MESSAGE FROM EDITOR

Greetings from JCI Luyang!

It is my honour to present to you the 3rd Issue of the JCI Luyang 2024 Enewsletter Being entrusted with the responsibility of working on this issue for Quarter 3 has been both a rewarding and insightful experience. Following in the footsteps of our previous editor, Jeff, I have gained a deeper appreciation for the effort and commitment required to create a publication that truly showcases our organisation’s dynamic projects and initiatives.

This quarter has been particularly exciting, especially for me as the organising chairperson of the Merdeka Garage & Art Sale held during the Hari Merdeka weekend. I am incredibly proud of the overwhelming response we received, and it was a joy to see our community come together for such a vibrant and successful event. Alongside this, we also hosted our 12th Installation and Awards Ceremony cum 14th Anniversary celebration, further highlighting the dedication and spirit of our members

Capturing these events and moments in this E-newsletter has been both a challenge and a joy. I am incredibly grateful for the support of my team, whose hard work and dedication ensured that every achievement was highlighted with the clarity and energy it deserved

I hope you enjoy reading this E-newsletter as much as we enjoyed creating it. It reflects the passion, teamwork, and commitment of everyone at JCI Luyang in continuing to make a meaningful impact on our community.

Sincerely,

In the first week of July, flash floods hit the Penampang area, leaving many residents across various kampungs in urgent need of assistance. In response to this crisis, JCI Moyog and JCI Luyang collaborated to

provide critical support to the affected communities.

On the first day of the initiative (Saturday), members from both JCI Moyog and JCI Luyang joined forces to deliver essential supplies such as

dry foods, pillows, and mattresses to the floodaffected residents. The deliveries reached Kampung Madsiang, Kampung Tulung, and Kibabaig. These essential items were made available

thanks to the generous contributions from the public, gathered at ITCC Penampang under the Pusat Pengumpulan Bantuan Banjir initiative, which was spearheaded by Datuk Ceasar Mandela

Malakun. This coordinated effort allowed the teams to reach multiple kampungs, ensuring that the affected families received the assistance they needed. The forum was officiated

On the second day (Sunday), the volunteers focused on cleaning and restoring SM St. Michael School in Penampang, which had also been heavily affected by the floodwaters The team’s efforts extended beyond their membership as students from SM St. Michael School also joined in the clean-up efforts. Together, they worked tirelessly to remove mud from the drains and

thoroughly scrub the school floors and corridors, aiming to restore the learning environment for students and staff. The joint effort between JCI members and the students reflected a powerful sense of community in the face of adversity.

This two-day operation exemplified the power of unity and service, as both organisations worked in tandem to bring relief and restore normalcy to the Penampang community. The efforts of JCI Moyog, JCI Luyang, the students of SM St. Michael, and all the volunteers not only provided much-needed aid but also strengthened the bonds within the community, demonstrating that in times of crisis, collaboration and compassion can truly make a difference
