EDITOR-IN-CHIEFâ€™S MESSAGE Dear Readers, Welcome to the First Edition of City Zenes Focus of this wonderful year 2017. The start of the year brings with it new hopes, new impactful projects as well as full of new innovative ideas, good leadership skills and best strategic thinkers whose aim is to bring our local organisation to reach new heights by adopting the Moto "Lead with Passion". The epitome of the year 2017 highlights the "10th Anniversary" of JCI City Plus. Despite all challenges throughout the years, this local organisation stands still because of the love, faith, commitment and enthusiasm of the passion driven young active citizens who positively believed in the creation of sustainable actions and plans for the betterment of the society. City Zenes Focus aims at promoting the projects and activities of our dedicated teams by working actively together without any barriers or discrimination to creating an impact. The valuable contributions of the first quarter of 2017 of our members will be highlighted in this edition. Let us all unite our strength as leaders of tomorrow! LOCAL PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE City Zenes Focus is the platform to promote our projects, team building activities, the Active Citizen Framework and the engagement of our members to create positive change in the society. This First Edition represents the transition from 2016 to 2017 and the impact we’ve made during the first 3 months.

Dear Readers, It is an honor for me to address you as the 2017 JCI City Plus Local President in the first Edition of City Zenes Focus. The year 2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of JCI City Plus. Ten years is both a long and a very short time. Having distinguished itself in many areas over the years, JCI City Plus has ample reasons to celebrate its legacy that continues to inspire us to create a better tomorrow.

I seize this opportunity to thank all those who made the publication of this first Edition possible. Thank you to the Editor-In-Chief Vanisha Rajaysur for the wonderful job done together with the editorial team and thank you to Local Vice President Ashish Padaruth for having met the objectives set and for his guidance and support to the Editorial team.

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I have acquired so much from last year’s opportunity and experience that I do sincerely hope that the members had made the most out of it and has grown too. I humbly think that we “Impact to Inspire” others to join us in our quest and I am convinced that we shall continue on the same path this year. My wish for this year is that the members continue to be as committed and dedicated as they are and that they live fully the “Lead with Passion” adventure to reach new heights be it for JCI City Plus, personally and professionally.

Dear Readers, Greetings from the office of the 2017 JCI City Plus Immediate Past President! It is an immense pleasure for me to write to you these few words for the 1st Edition of the 2017 City Zenes Focus newsletter. As the 9th JCI City Plus Local President last year, I have had the opportunity to lead the organisation with the commitment and support of the members without whom nothing would have been possible. It was an amazing experience which cannot be described in words but that can only be felt by living it. I had the opportunity to improve my people management skills, to enhance and share my knowledge, to get out of my comfort zone and take up new challenges, broaden my leadership, communication and interpersonal skills and amongst all encourage the members to be integral part of the organisation by participating to projects, attending events and taking responsibilities as project members.

My gratitude goes to the members for giving me this awesome opportunity to live the “one year to lead” adventure and for their support. Thank you to all our sponsors and partners for helping us giving life to our projects. Thank you to all my friends for always being by my side and least but not least a big thank you to my incredible husband for his support, for being so patient and understanding I shall end up by quoting Nelson Mandela: “It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. NATIONAL PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE As young active citizens our aim is to unite all sectors of society to create sustainable impact and this cannot be achieved unless we commit and take actions to find sustainable solutions to community challenges by implementation of the JCI Active Citizens Framework (ACF). 2017 marks the fourth year of the 2014 – 2018 JCI Strategic plan, priorities have been set and we shall work together to Impact As One in achieving the goals set.

Dear JCI City Plus Family members Greetings from your 2017 JCI Mauritius National President. It is indeed with great pleasure that I am addressing these few words to my Local Organisation members. I shall first of all seize this opportunity to thank JCI City Plus for having given me only amazing development opportunities since I stepped in the first members meeting in May 2011. Since then I first discovered myself and today I am serving JCI Mauritius as the 3rd National President from JCI City Plus. 2017 marks the 33rd year of JCI Mauritius and the 10th years of JCI City Plus. JCI Mauritius has a rich history and I cannot step forward without expressing my gratitude to the 32 Leaders of the organization as they each have contributed to where we stand today. In 2017 focus is laid on ‘Providing development opportunities’, ‘creating impact’, ‘sustainability’ and ‘continuity’.

We are not aiming on quantity but quality, one ACF project per local organization, promoting the Global Goals, Peace is Possible Campaign, Let’s do it campaign, recruitment and retention of members and we can call it a year. As goes the saying : ‘The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individuals stars in the world, but if they do not play together, the club won’t be worth a dime’. Let 2017 be Lead with Passion and together we shall Impact As One to Build a Better Future as I am JCI, You are JCI and We are JCI On this note, I an sending my kindest regards to all JCI City Plus Family members and look forward to have your continuous support for 2017 and the years to come. Ms Tasweena Girdhari - 2017 Local President !Tasweena Girdhari sworn in as member in September 2014. She is a Physiotherapist and holds a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy from the University of Mauritius and is currently undergoing Master of Public Health. She works at Victoria Hospital. She was Project Director for the 2015 JCI President Banquet & Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the JCI Movement and 2016 JCI Mauritius National Convention. Tasweena is a graduate and trainer for JCI Achieve, JCI Impact and JCI Admin, Presenter, Effective Meetings, Effective Communications and Effective Leadership. In 2015 and 2016, she chaired the Administrative and Good Governance and Strategic Planning Committees respectively. She was also member of the Constitution Amendments Review and the Financial Committees. She served on the Board of Directors of JCI City Plus as 2015 Local Secretary and 2016 Local Vice President â€“ Public Relations and International and was also Editor-in-Chief. In 2015, she was awarded the Most Outstanding Board member of JCI City Plus and Most Outstanding Member of JCI Mauritius. In 2016, she attended the 2016 JCI Africa and Middle East Conference where she graduated from the 18th JCI Active Citizenship Academy and was also a nominee for the Most Outstanding Member for the Africa and Middle East Region.

Ms Vanisha Rajaysur - Local Secretary

Vanisha Rajaysur joined JCI City Plus as aspiring member in January 2016 and sworn in as member in March 2016. She works as Group HR Manager at Shibani Finance Ltd and holds a BSc (Hons) Management from University of Mauritius and Global MBA with Specialisation in HRM from London Metropolitan University. She also forms part of the 2016 Global Mentor of London Metropolitan University, UK. She was Editorial member and project director for Aret Violence. She has served was Jury member for the PAP project of JCI Port-Louis. With her team, she was the winner of the 2016 JCI Mauritius Debate Championship. She has also been the Top 5 Finalist of TOYP and figures among the 2016 Top 100 Most Influential Women of Mauritius. She has recently got an international award by figuring in the 2017 TOP 100 Most Influential Global HR Professional in the World.

Ms Geetanjali Ramkishore - 2017 Local Treasurer Geetanjali Ramkishore joined JCI City Plus as aspiring member in October 2014 and sworn in as member in April 2015. She is currently completing her ACCA. She has worked on various local and National projects namely the 2016 Africa and the Middle East Senators Association Summit and she was Project Director for the ACF workshop organised by JCI City Plus and it was awarded the Best Local Community Empowerment Program in 2016. She is the Chairperson of the Finance Committee.

Ms Jaya Mulloo - 2017 Local Vice President - Community Development Jaya Mulloo joined JCI City Plus as aspiring member in November 2014 and sworn in as member in April 2015. She holds a BSc (Hons) Financial Services with Law and a Master in International Business. She currently works at the State Bank of Mauritius as personal banker. She has worked on various local and National projects, namely the Fundraising of JCI City Plus and 2016 Africa and the Middle East Senators Association Summit. She is a graduate of JCI Achieve and Impact. She served on the Board of Directors of JCI City Plus as 2016 Local Treasurer.

Mr Pavan Gopal – 2017 Local Vice President – Skills Development Pavan Gopal joined JCI City Plus as aspiring member in 2014 and he sworn in as member in December 2014. He is Business Development Director of Happy Eater Ltd and he holds a BSc (Hons) Management Sciences & Accounting from the University of Southampton, UK. He has worked on various local and national projects. He was recognized as Co-Project Director of the 2015 JCI TOYP. He was fully involved in the Inspire Connect Sessions project which won the award for Best Local Economic Empowerment Program and the Bursary Index project. He served on the Board of Directors of JCI City Plus as 2016 Local Vice President – Business.

Mr Nitin Collappen – 2017 Local Vice President – Business Nitin Collapen joined JCI City Plus as aspiring member in December 2014 and sworn in as member in April 2015. He is the Director of Sunibel Corporate Services Ltd and is an accountant by profession (ACCA member & MBA holder). He has worked on various projects of the local organisation and national level. He was the Project Treasurer of the 2015 JCI Mauritius Debate Championship and Learning Made Easy Project and was the Project Director for the Speed Business Networking. He is a graduate of JCI Achieve and Impact. He served on the Board of Directors of JCI City Plus as 2016 Local Vice President – Community Development. In 2015, he was awarded the Most Outstanding New Member of JCI City Plus and JCI Mauritius.

Mr Ashish Padaruth – 2017 Local Vice President – Public Relations and International Ashish Padaruth joined JCI City Plus as aspiring member in February 2014 and he sworn in as member in September 2014. He works as Senior Business Analyst at Orange Business Services and holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Applications and currently undergoing MSc Project Management at the University of Mauritius. He has worked on various local projects such as Learning Made Easy, Aret Violence, fundraising and 2015 JCI President Banquet & Celebration of the 100th Anniversary, TOYP and 2016 Africa and the Middle East Senators Association Summit. He was the first runner up of the 2015 JCI Mauritius Public Speaking Competition and together with the team first runner up for the 2015 & 2016 JCI Mauritius Debate Championships. He is a graduate of JCI Achieve and JCI Admin. He served on the Board of Directors of JCI City Plus as 2016 Local Secretary and was the Editor-in-Chief. In 2015, he was awarded the Most Outstanding Member of JCI City Plus and in 2016 as the Most Outstanding Member of JCI Mauritius.

Mrs Chimène Dacruz-Valery – 2017 Immediate Past President Chimène Dacruz-Valery joined JCI City Plus in 2013 and she sworn in as member in August 2013. She works as Senior Purchasing Agent at the MCB Group and is currently completing her ACCA. She is also a member of Amicale des Anciennes du LCRH. She has worked on various local and national projects of JCI and she was the Project Director for the 2014 JCI Mauritius Creative Young Entrepreneur Award (CYEA). She was a member the Recruitment Committee and the Constitution Amendments Review Committee of JCI City Plus in 2014. She was awarded Best New Member of JCI City Plus in 2013 and Most Outstanding Member of JCI Mauritius in 2014. In 2015, she chaired the Strategic Planning Committee as well as the financial committee. She is a graduate and trainer of JCI Achieve, JCI Impact, JCI Admin, Effective Leadership and Effective Communications. She served on the Board of Directors of JCI City Plus as 2014 Local Secretary, 2015 Local Treasurer and 2016 Local President. She is currently the General Legal Counsel of JCI City Plus and the Secretary of NTI.

CREATION OF A NEW CHAPTER – JCI CITY PLUS, A DREAM TURNS TRUE! What are the wonderful souvenirs that you have about JCI?

At that time, I was on the post of National Secretary and was positively encouraged by the 2007 National President Bashir Mahamode and had the support of 2007 Local President of JCI Port Louis, Mike Chan. Who inspired you in your JCI Career?

I remember very well, the day I was approached to become the project director of the project “Creation of new LOM – City Port Louis”. It was just before I was preparing to go for 2007 JCI African Academy. My p ro m p t a n s w e r w a s “ N o , thanks”. The project had already been passed over two experienced JCI Port Louis Members and was stagnant. During the 9th JCI African Academy, I had the fantastic opportunity to be trained by Senator Desmond Alfohai as head coach and assistant coaches were: Senator Aruna Pulton, Senator Materne Bossu and Senator Kumbi. Interacting with such powerful personalities and other JCI friends from other part of Africa and Middle East countries, was a life changing and unique experience. Then the interaction with 700 JCI Members at the JCI Africa and Middle East Conference held at Joburg from 1st May – 5th May 2007 was huge.

“For achieving success in anything you under take, you should be surrounded by motivated and positive thinking people” and thus I pleaded Senator Bruneau Woomed to become my Mentor and built-up my team comprising of Chandrani Gopaul (2009 National Treasurer), Vidya Langur (2009 Local President of JCI City Plus), Vamen Poonoosamy (2012 Local President of JCI City Plus), Jhateen Ramnarain (2014 Local President of JCI Quatre Bornes) and Yosi Ramen.

After being graduated at JCI African Academy, I was highly motivated and feel I can do anything and creation of new chapter was not impossible. I accepted the challenge to take the lead as project director of this project. 11

What was the feeling of becoming the 1st President of a new born chapter? In presence of prestigious JCI Mauritius Leaders, senators, members and aspiring members, on 15th September 2007, JCI City Plus (named as JCI City Port Louis at first, but changed upon request of Registrar of Associates) was born with 25 new members swearing in at The Clos St Louis Restaurant, Domaine Les Pailles. If anyone believes that being the 1st president of a new born local chapter is easy, then that is very untrue. Everything needed to be done from scratch; a perfect model was to be created that could be taken as example. The first local board members had to be more active and dedicated as they had more responsibilities. The new members needed to be motivated with new projects and that gave birth to flagship project like Art & Training Academy (awarded as Best Individual Development Programme at 2009 Africa and Middle East Conference) and Art Mela (awarded as Best Public Relation Programme at 2009 Africa and Middle East

What are your feelings on seeing your â€œnewly born chapterâ€? turning to its 10th Anniversary this year? Today, when I look back, it feels that a miracle has happened or is it just a big dream turning true! The baby is now 10 years and has already produced fantastic leaders, three National Presidents and more to come. Remember, nothing is impossible, everything is achievable, the more the difficulties, the higher the motivations to fight it and the greater the pleasure of being successful. Me, Veena Langur , am happy to be the mother and 1st President of JCI City Plus and wishes 2017 Local President Tasweena Girdari and her local board member a fruitful and impactful year.

HOT FROM OVEN AMAZING COMEBACK AS A “NEW MEMBER” I still remember the first time I heard of JCI – we were still undergraduate students in 2009. It was my lecturer who introduced us to the NGO. Getting into the labour market back then was difficult and I must say that being a JCI member definitely stood out as the differentiating edge that got us into the business world.

I choose to be among my long-time friends of JCI who witnessed the withering of time, with special thanks to 2011 Local President of JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill Anousha Lutchman for her support. I immediately felt accepted into the JCI City Plus family as I met new outstanding people and we started implementing impactful projects. We had a well-mediatised, free seminar on the ABC of stock exchange investment that aimed at creating awareness to the general public on wise personal investments. I was both the project analyst and the press lead on the project.

I got the opportunity to occupy leadership positions through the years but I would always remember the most challenging ones which involved being a Past Local President at the Junior Chamber International of Beau-Bassin/ Rose-Hill in 2011. I learned that leadership is not just about the title. I learned about humility and the consequences of taking hard decisions. I left the organization shortly afterwards. But JCI never truly left me. As we say, once a member, always a member. We have this need to “serve humanity” engraved deeply within us. I thus returned to JCI City Plus last year, in 2016. Alisha Hingun Member

What can I do best to serve the community who is in need of continuous support?” That was the main question I looked up to after joining JCI City Plus. During my time as an aspiring Member, I learnt and understood that we have a continuous responsibility as a citizen towards our society we are living in.

In this respect, JCI City Plus is not only a University of shared knowledge but most importantly, a platform to help members develop their hidden skills in a real environment, both at local and international level so as to become an effective team player who acts in accordance to the ethical practices and expectations of JCI City Plus. I am still young and I believe there are still scopes for learning and development. The journey has just began and I am looking forward to set the right path in making a positive difference both at JCI City Plus and the community I serve.

In fact, community building and development require commitment and sheer dedication having no time limits. I knew at that moment that the right time is now, where I can collaborate with other members within the organisation and help to drive a positive change. After swearing in as Member in December 2016, I have set myself a new mission which is: to help my community, to protect the environment and to sustain positive change. I therefore immediately got involved in the world of “community welfare” where I was assigned as Project Director of the Cancer Awareness Campaign Project, Project Secretary for the JCI City Plus Women’s Awards 2017 and participant in the ART MELA – Art for Peace project.

GLIMPSE OF OUR FRESH BLOOD Manveer Aubeeluck, y o u n g entrepreneur of 34 yrs joined the JCI earlier this year. I n s p i re d b y the noble ongoing work being carried out by the chapter and motivated by a friend Local Secretary Vanisha Rajaysur, I integrated the family to share my know how and expertise in the field of social work, which I have been delivering since 20 years. Being more academic rather than technical, I finished my studies in year 1998 at Dr Regis Chaperon SSS and followed various courses offered by the Ministry of Youth and Sports which includes Youth Leadership and Management, Peer Educator and Councellor, and participated in the well known project which is the National Youth Achievement Award. Triggered by social work during the course, I continued to contribute towards the society by creating a team and our objective was to live in a clean and beautiful village which is Saint Pierre which extended to first aid courses to youngsters of the area under the guidance and supervision of the Local Youth Officers.

The ultimate goal to integrate the JCI is bringing my contribution towards the societyÂ through the different platforms laid by the chapter and to share my experience to the younger members of the big family of the JCI. I will also want to share a part of my life where I lived the proverb â€œWhere there is a will, there is Always a way". It happened many years ago, when I almost drowned on two occasions and I was rescued by more competent swimmers around. From there, I decided that no matter what, I will have to learn to swim. Then started the long way, I undergone swimming courses, followed by lifesaving courses (which included aquatic CPR) to finally reach the level of Surf Lifesaver and one of the rare Mauritians to be recognized by the "Surf Lifesaving - Victoria" Australia. This episode of my life influenced many youngsters to be focused in their ultimate goals and I am proud to be able to motivate them through my personal experiences; and this is the ultimate goal to integrate the JCI.

A good friend of mine, who is the Local Secretary of JCI City Plus recommend me to join the organization. Doing voluntary work for a nongovernmental organization can be a challenging activity. As a partially disable guy, this is the best way to be more socially active in the community.

and thus, this going to make a significant contribution towards a better tomorrow Success in life comes when you simply refuse to give up, with goals so strong that obstacles, failure and loss only act as motivation.

There is no better way to get noticed professionally than participating in a nongovernmental organization like JCI. I will have a lot of opportunities to create meaningful connections with individuals, who could be my next colleague or friend. By using this professional networking groups, this proves out to be an excellent opportunities to escape the norm and meet new people that may give you a reason to come out of you shell a bit more and have fun.

It will provide an enormous amount of access to re s o u rc e i n f o r m a t i o n s u c h a s a r t i c l e s , newsletters and so on, to broaden ones knowledge Furthermore, with the right support network, Iâ€™m no longer ruled by fear and feeling meaningless. JCI CITY PLUS AT A GLANCE - MAFUBO CHARITY DINNER

LOCAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT fisheries directly or indirectly employ over 200 million people. The world’s oceans – their temperature, chemistry, currents and life – drive global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind – Oceans also absorb about 30 per cent of carbon dioxide produced by humans, buffering the impacts of global warming.

Member development is at the core of our mission and learning new skills is central to shaping our young leaders. As 2017 VicePresident Skills Development, I have initiated a project called “Discover Yourself” – A series of activities/events that will make our participants discover a new skill and put it to good use. The first activity organised in Q1 of this year was the Scuba Diving Initiation Session, geared towards SDG Goal 14: Life Below Water. By experiencing and seeing first hand the damage caused to our oceans, one would understand better the importance of Marine Conservation. UN SDG 14 emphasizes on the importance of such a global resource – Oceans serve as the world’s largest source of protein, with more than 3 billion people depending on the oceans as their primary source of protein and Marine

I organised two Scuba Initiation sessions scheduled on the 28th January and 18th February which attracted over 40 people who successfully completed their first dive at a site called “Aquarium” outside the lagoons of Flicen-Flac. Not only did many of the scuba first timers learn a new skill and lifestyle hobby, but about 20% of them have committed themselves to become licensed divers and go for the CMAS q u a l i fic a t i o n . T h e C M A S s e s s i o n s a re scheduled for end of March and alongside the technical teaching, a strong focus is laid on respect, care and protection of marine life and the ecosystem. Over three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. One key target of SDG 14 is that by 2020, to sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, including by strengthening their resilience, and take action for their restoration in order to achieve healthy and productive oceans. By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution. 19

The results of the Scuba diving sessions are tangible - Scuba enthusiast member Sundeep Ruchchan, will be organising a beach clean at Savinia on 15th April. Sensitization campaigns and reduction of pollution with a ZERO LITTER campaign on our beaches and collaboration with boat operators are expected to follow. The first step of engaging in the conservation of our oceans starts with experience at first hand and the aim was to get as many people to experience the Marine eco-system through scuba diving.

FUNDRAISING Friday, 31st March 2017, a big day for JCI City Plusâ€Ś. We organised our first fundraising event for the year on that day at The Irish Pub with a live performance by the favourite of many, Hans Nayna. Being a non-profit making organisation, our main source of revenue apart from sponsors is the revenues from the fundraising events and directing the Fundraising events is a challenge that a Local Treasurer takes at the time he/she is elected. At the beginning of the year, one of my objective as Local Treasurer was the organisation of a Fundraising event during the first quarter of the year and today I am proud to say that the objective was successfully achieved. With the help of my team members and the 2017 Board of Directors of JCI City Plus, the event was a big success with over 285 people in attendance. I must admit that it was not an easy job as many may think. There are so many things that you need to consider when organising such an event and the cause for which the funds will be used must be clearly defined and it must be a cause that many people feel strong about. Our experienced JCI friends will surely agree that getting even a single penny from a sponsor for a project is a difficult job these days.

The difficulty level was increased when the two competing pubs, Kass Poz and Backstage Henessy went for an exactly same concept of a live performance by the equally well known artists, Zulu and Cassiya on the same day and at the same time. But as rightly said, "Every risk is worth taking as long as it is for a good cause and contributes to a good life." Having an attendance of over 285 people on such a day is, therefore, applaudable. A big thanks to the Irish, the Director of The Irish Pub, for giving us such a platform to organise our fundraising event and a big thanks to his entire crew for working tireless along with us for the promotion of the event. Thank you to our JCI friends and members of the public for attending the event and showing your support. Thank you to our 2017 Immediate Past President Chimene Dacruz-Valery and 2017 Local President Tasweena Girdhari for the advice and guidance for making the event a success. Stay tuned! 2017 JCI MAURITIUS NATIONAL DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP This year JCI City Plus was given the opportunity of hosting the 2017 JCI Mauritius National Debate Championship. Under the astute guidance of our Local President Tasweena and National Vice President Dana, the project team had the challenge of organizing the Preliminaries, Semi Final and Final rounds of the competition. This year the theme of the debate championship was ‘Compassionate leadership’. The project started with the organization of the debating skills training entitled ‘Discover your voice – Debaters today, leaders tomorrow’ on the 19 th of March 2017. On a sunny Sunday morning, 27 brave participants came to refine their debating skills and get the opportunity of being coached by our collaborator and trainer Mr Ravin Papiah. The latter spent three hours with the participants which included non JCI members and gave them tips on how to learn the art of debating. On the 25 th of March 2017 the 2017 JCI Mauritius National Debate championship went underway with the Preliminaries and Semi Finals rounds. Five teams comprising of two teams from JCI City Plus, one team from JCI Beau-Bassin/ Rose- Hill, one team from JCI Curepipe and one from JCI Port Louis came to the battleground and fought with passion and intensity against each other. We witnessed some very high quality debates. In the end, two teams went on to the final round namely JCI City Plus and JCI Curepipe.

On the 1 st of April 2017 the final round of the Championship went underway. We had the privilege of having the 2017 JCI Vice President Matthew among us. At the onset of the debate, the two finalist teams had a thrilling exchange of ideas. The level and intensity of the debate was so high that the judges had to take some extra time for their deliberations. Ultimately JCI City Plus won the debate. It must be noted that Aspiring Member Tejaswinee got the best speaker award. It should be noted that the JCI City Plus teams who fought bravely and valiantly at the Championship comprised of Team Captain Tejaswinee, Local Treasurer Geetanjali and Local Vice President Pavan (Team 1) and Team Captain Member Varuna. Local Secretary Vanisha and Aspiring Member Atish (Team 2). As Project Director I would like to thank all my project team members who gave me full support during the championship namely Aspiring Member Alliah, Local Vice President Jaya, Member Jevina and JCI Quatre Bornes Local Vice Presidents Hanisha and Mitish. I would also like to give a special thanks to all the members of the jury namely Jury Chairperson Senator Veena Langur, Jury Member Mr Ravin Papiah and Jury Member Dr Chandra Shekar Ramdoursingh.

BONDING OF JCI CITY PLUS WITH JCI KUALA LUMPUR MANDARIN On the 26th of December 2016, Local Treasurer Geetanjali and myself we have had the opportunity of meeting the 2017 JCI Kuala Lampur Mandarin Local Vice President Vicky Cha in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was an enriching and interesting meeting for both of us. At JCI we put a lot of emphasis on the â€˜Iâ€™ of JCI namely the International part. That day, we had a taste of the international JCI brotherhood and discovered Malaysia and Mauritius might be far away from each other in term of distance however through our highly diverse cultures and ways of living, we actually complement each other. Local Vice President Vicky talked passionately about her local organization JCI Kuala Lumpur mandarin and how they contain a lot of active and passionate members. She also talked about the 2017 JCI Malaysia TOYP which shall be held in September this year in her country. It was fascinating to note that JCI Kuala Lampur Mandarin shares the same organization structure as JCI City Plus. During our delightful meeting we also talked about the possibility of twinning our two local organisations and doing joint impactful projects. I would like to seize this opportunity to thank you 2016 Local President Chimene for coordinating this meeting with 2016 JCI Kuala Lumpur Mandarin Local President Andy. It must be said that during our meeting, we also have had the opportunity of tasting sumptuous local Malaysian food such as the Chicken satay and Chicken fish. Looking forward to more such visits. JCI City Plus is really making a remarkable contribution to the Mauritian society at large through their range of community involvement activities. For me, JCI City Plus is the voice which is really being heard especially for the Youth. The NGO is highly involved in active citizenship and community leadership. They are also empowering children and youths to face the future challenges of Mauritius. JCI City Plus has the values and ethos needed for the transformation of the Mauritian society.
