June 13, 2021 Dear Families of Graduates, Our Sages teach that each blade of grass in the world has an angel alongside it whispering, “Grow, grow!” (Adapted from Bereisheet Rabbah 10:6.) If that is true of a single blade of grass, imagine how much more so for each student in the Class of 2021.

As you look with pride at how these students have grown, we know you are the ‘angels’ who have been encouraging them to reach toward their highest potential.

And during this extraordinary year in the shadow of a pandemic something remarkable happened. Members of this class blossomed to become angels of inspiration for each other.

Through video screens, social media posts, texts, and chats they encouraged, nudged, and pushed each other through the last leg of their JCHS journey.

With you and their JCHS educators, they’ve empowered classmates to become individuals who are dedicated to enriching their communities and pursuing their passions.

It has been an extraordinary collaboration. Through it we recognize all you’ve done. We are grateful to you and extremely proud of them! We eagerly await learning about their future accomplishments and growth in the years ahead.

May the JCHS Class of 2021 thrive as ‘angels’ who nourish others and the next generations with their creativity, determination, and compassion.

What happens on the student’s Journey through the building?

Upon arriving at campus today, each senior began an individual Journey through campus commemorating their time in high school. Every student was given a graduation passport and personalized map of JCHS. Some students visited the Art classroom and the Chemistry lab, some their History and Algebra classrooms, depending on their interests while at the school. At each stop, the students stamped their passport, and picked up an item they will use during the graduation ceremony today.

They walked into the building as high school seniors, and they will arrive in the courtyard as graduates.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who has kept us alive, sustained us, and and enabled us to reach this moment.

The Shehecheyanu is about reaching special moments. Our people have recited it for more than 1,500 years. It acknowledges that the present is always fleeting. We need to hold it, see it, appreciate it, and let it go. We invite the entire community to join us in reciting the Shehecheyanu.
