LINDA SOREFF SIEGEL
We are thrilled to honor Linda Soreff Siegel for her steadfast support of Response for Teens, life-long commitment to youth, and long-standing leadership in the Chicago Jewish community. After professional careers as a teacher and attorney, Linda embraced community leadership. She is a Multigenerational Trustee of the Jewish Women’s Foundation and a former board member of JFCS (now JCFS Chicago), JUF Women’s Philanthropy, and CJE SeniorLife. She has also served as a community volunteer at Barrington Youth Services and a volunteer attorney for The Ark. When not volunteering, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Greetings!
As Governor of the State of Illinois, I am pleased to welcome everyone gathered for the Jewish Child and Family Services (JCFS) of Chicago’s annual Response for Teens fundraiser.
This occasion offers an exciting opportunity for everyone gathered in attendance to join fellow members of your association and generate ideas that implement solutions. I commend the work you have done to help make Illinois a stronger and more inclusive state.
JCFS Chicago encourages and inspires our Jewish community through their personal and emotional goals, leaving a last impact throughout the State. Illinois’ tremendous diversity is our greatest strength, and you have undoubtedly left your mark here. Illinois is proud to have enjoyed your service to our state. As you reflect on your accomplishments, I urge you to make plans that will build on your past successes. I am grateful for all the ways your organization has supported a strong future for Illinois.
I would also like to honor Linda Siegel, who is being recognized tonight, for her outstanding leadership. Having experience in both teaching and law, Linda ultimately transitioned to a life of community leadership, serving with Barrington Youth Services and The Ark, while holding positions within several Jewish organizations including JCFS and Jewish United Fund’s Women’s Philanthropy branch. Throughout her life, Linda has displayed a deep commitment to ensuring our teens have every opportunity to thrive, while lifting up Chicago’s Jewish community. I commend you for your work and dedicated leadership in supporting our young people, ensuring they have all they need to embrace the full potential of their lives.
On behalf of the people of Illinois, I offer my best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable celebration.
Sincerely,
Governor JB Pritzker

Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people."
-Fred Rogers
This quote by Fred Rogers, who inspires children and adults with his wise, warm, and relational programming, links directly to our vision at Response for Teens. Providing guidance and education to teens and their families is at our core, and we are uniquely positioned to help young people navigate one of the most critical and rewarding periods of their lives. By supporting the developmental needs of youth, our educational and clinical outpatient programming can have an impact on youth throughout the Chicago area.
In the last year, Response has expanded our educational programming for young people and their families. Our engaging, knowledgeable, and energetic Community Educators are on the frontline: meeting with youth and parents in schools, synagogues, libraries, community centers, and more. Akiba Schechter Day School, Bernard Zell, Chicago Jewish Day School, Erie Elementary School, Hyde Park Day School, and Jones College Prep are just a few of the schools and synagogues we partner with. Our master’s-level therapists, who specialize in working with youth and emerging adults, work closely with teens who need additional clinical support as they navigate the complexities of adolescence.
We are excited and hopeful to continue our growth and impact for the upcoming year! Please know that our experienced and dedicated staff are here and available to support the needs of teens and emerging adults for many years to come, and we couldn’t do this work without your partnership and generosity.
David Lipschutz, LCSW Director, Response for Teens
On behalf of the Response Advsiory Council (RAC), we want to welcome all of you to our 17th annual Tuned In: The Larry Dobkin Event. We are so happy to have you here with us this evening!
The continued leadership, support and advocacy from all of you has helped JCFS Chicago’s Response for Teens grow from a small program in West Rogers Park in 1972, to a vibrant and growing service operating out of a beautiful new building on the Seigle Campus, in Skokie today. The work of Response is more important now than ever and your commitment has helped the dedicated staff of Response provide compassionate, adolescent-focused programs and services for thousands of young people in and around the Chicagoland area.
Tonight, we are thrilled to honor Linda Soreff Siegel for her steadfast support of Response for Teens, life-long commitment to youth, and long-standing leadership in the Chicago Jewish community. After professional careers as a teacher and attorney, Linda embraced community leadership at several Jewish organizations and also served as a community volunteer at Barrington Youth Services and a volunteer attorney for The Ark. We would like to congratulate Linda on this well-deserved honor. Mazel Tov!
Tuned In is the direct result of a hard-working committee. Thank you to the RAC members and our staff who worked for months to make sure that every detail of this event is just right, including the ad book, raffle, talent, marketing and fundraising.
Mazel tov one and all as we come together for this special celebration.

BRITTANY SUE HINES
What is your favorite part of your job?
Of course, it’s teaching and engaging with young people. More specifically, I love answering students’ anonymous questions. We invite students to write down questions and we answer them at the following class. The ability to ask a question that, perhaps, they've never felt comfortable asking before and have it answered is so special. I feel grateful to provide this resource.
What drew you to this field/type of work?
The saying "be the person you needed when you were younger" sounds a little cheesy, but that's precisely why I do this work. I did not receive comprehensive sexual health education and feel strongly that it is necessary for all young people.
Who or what inspires you?
Our incredible community education team inspires me. They are so wise, funny and deeply caring about the work we do. It is such a privilege to work alongside such dedicated individuals.
What brought you to Response?
I had the privilege of seeing Response in action when I worked at an independent school in Chicago. I loved the curriculum they were teaching to our 7th grade students and thought, "I need to work for this organization and do this work." And here we are just a few years later!
Can you share an example about how you helped a teen at Response? Or some other positive outcomes?
Recently, while teaching 7th grade, I received several anonymous questions from female students who did not feel "normal" about their body development. Feeling developmentally behind can be so disconcerting for young people. However, addressing their questions with empathy and facts—particularly telling them that they are, indeed, normal—brought about a noticeable air of relief.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part is when students ask thoughtful questions during lessons. We have great conversations about the content, led by the students’ curiosity and how it applies to their lives. I also enjoy that we have frequent training opportunities led by experts. I love that I am constantly learning!
What drew you to this field/type of work?
I have always been passionate about teaching and working with young people (I taught middle and high school previously). In light of legislation happening now that makes access to comprehensive gender, sexuality and mental health care more and more difficult, I strongly believe the best thing we can do is teach young people medically accurate information about how their bodies and minds work.
Who or what inspires you?
Our community education team at Response, and all the students and educators we work with! I feel so lucky to work with such smart and dedicated people every day.
What brought you to Response?
I was familiar with JCFS and its strong reputation in the community, and I feel fortunate there was an opportunity for me to join the community ed team this past summer.
Can you share an example about how you helped a teen at Response? Or some other positive outcomes?
After an 8th grade gender and sexuality lesson, we received a note in our anonymous question box that said, “I am bi and part of the LGBTQ community.” When Genevieve and I co-taught a 9th grade class, they gave her a round of applause after she did a condom demonstration. In a 5th grade class, when discussing peer pressure, one student said, “Morah Alyssa, I actually think it’s really cool to be different!”

What do you love most about your job?
I love teaching. I have been doing it for the last 18+ years and never tire of seeing young people's insight and curiosity.
What drew you to this field/type of work?
I started at a not-for-profit when I was 25, teaching health and comprehensive sex ed, and truly have never looked back. It is essential, life-changing and life-saving information that young people deserve to know.
Who or what inspires you?
I'm so inspired by passion, and I see that in our team in all the work we do. We are so proud we get to work with Response, and it shows when we walk into every classroom.
How has your job evolved?
Response is in a brand-new iteration and it's an exciting time. In the short time we've been here we have created relevant and comprehensive curriculum, booked innovative and timely programming and formed new partnerships.
What brought you to Response?
After having lived in Brooklyn for the last 22 years, I returned to my hometown of Chicago, and it just so happened that Response had positions available at exactly the right time. It is truly the perfect professional fit.
Can you share an example about how you helped a teen at Response? Or some other positive outcomes?
We offer all our classes the opportunity to ask anonymous questions, but one student asked the social worker for a one-onone conversation. The student was so grateful for the opportunity to speak with us and it's moments like that when I truly know that our work makes a difference in our students’ lives.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I love that my job revolves around a topic that is considered taboo in our culture and in almost every other workplace. It is not only fun, but also empowering to talk openly about sexuality education. Further, knowing how much the U.S. lacks in comprehensive sex ed, it is very inspiring to work for such a progressive organization.
What drew you to this field/type of work?
I have been passionate about teaching/facilitating and social justice since I was in high school. I love connecting with youth and feel very fulfilled by the opportunity to be a positive adult in their lives.
What brought you to Response?
I heard about Response from a family friend who used to work here as a Community Educator in the 1980’s! As I read more and more about Response and its history, it became clear how much I wanted to be a part of this work. I feel very grateful to have gotten the opportunity to join the community education team because I believe so deeply in our mission.
Can you share an example about how you helped a teen at Response? Or some other positive outcomes?
This is a very small example, but we posted a TikTok video a few weeks ago answering questions about teen dating violence and someone commented, “this is very helpful info, thank you!” To have the reassurance that we are reaching even just one person with important and accurate information is so fulfilling.
