JULIE HAMOS WHAT’S POSSIBLE AWARD

We’re excited to honor Julie Hamos this year with the What’s Possible Award — given to an outstanding individual who has overcome adversity and made a significant impact on society. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, Julie and her family escaped from Hungary during the 1956 revolution with the help of HIAS. Motivated by this experience, Julie focused on government policymaking, helping underserved groups throughout her public service career. Julie was an Illinois State Representative before being appointed as the Director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services. Today, she is a Senior Policy Advisor at the Office of Medicaid Innovation at the University of Illinois.

ADRIENNE & JEFFREY KRIEZELMAN IRVING B. HARRIS LEADERSHIP AWARD

We are thrilled to present the Irving B. Harris Award to Adrienne and Jeffrey Kriezelman for their tireless leadership and dedication to our community. Adrienne has been active with Women’s Philanthropy at the Jewish United Fund for over 40 years, having recently served as President. She has also held leadership positions with the Jewish Women’s Foundation and the Jewish Children’s Bureau (predecessor of JCFS Chicago). Jeffrey is the founder of an immigration law firm and served as President of HIAS Chicago (now part of JCFS Chicago) for seven years. He currently serves on the Boards of American Jewish Committee and Israel Cancer Research Fund.

What a true pleasure it is to gather IN PERSON to celebrate JCFS Chicago and our incredible honorees. Together, we are joined in support of the 25,000 neighbors who turn to us for help as they seek emotional well-being, inclusion, and self-sufficiency.

I am inspired by everyone involved in the work of JCFS. None of us could do this alone. From staff to volunteers, to community partners and donors—you each step up to help us improve the lives of so many struggling with life’s challenges.

Congratulations to our incredible honorees, Adrienne and Jeffrey Kriezelman and Julie Hamos. Adriene and Jeff exemplify what it means to be community leaders. Year after year, you give your time, treasure and, most importantly, passion and compassion to strengthen the lives of others. Julie, your journey from fleeing danger to a career of public service shows what happens when resiliency meets a community of support. You have truly redefined what’s possible for yourself and for every life you have touched.

In this year of challenges–the lingering pandemic and mental health issues left in its wake, violence and the lives it leaves in upheaval–this event and our joint celebration feels all the more meaningful. We may not be able to stop disease and war, but we can gather to help those impacted. Thanks to each of you for joining in this evening of inspiration.
