kosher bakery shop owner in London’s East End. But with a dwindling clientele and the pressures of encroaching big stores, Nat reluctantly enlists the help of Ayyash, a teen who has a secret side gig: selling marijuana.

Then one day Ayyash accidentally drops his stash into the mixing dough - and the challah starts flying off the shelves!

A story about an unlikely friendship between an older Jewish baker and his young Muslim apprentice, “Dough” also is about finding redemption in the most unexpected places.

In 1927 a Hungarian immigrant named Max Gruber opened a little place called the Rialto, the first deli on Broadway.

Then Eugene, Max’s son, got into the business, and at 8 years old Eugene’s son, Ziggy, started, too: “My grandfather spent the next five years teaching me the traditions of Jewish deli food.”

And what a business it became. Ziggy went on to cook for the Queen of England; West Point asked the deli to become its official kosher caterer; and additional restaurants were opened in Los Angeles (where fans include Warren Beatty, Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp) and Houston.

“Deli Man” is Ziggy’s story – augmented by those of Katz’s, 2nd Avenue Deli, Carnegie and the Stage – a delicious exploration of Jewish culture as it reflects the heart of a vital ethnic history.

So he used his small earnings in 1970s communist Budapest to groom his three daughters to become chess champions. Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem 17

Working with a team of 300 artisans and students from around the world, using only period hand tools and techniques, the Browns realized their dream. In 2014, the show-stopping reconstruction of the Gwozdziec Synagogue roof was unveiled as the centerpiece of the new POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

This beautifully photographed and rendered film tells the story of this 10-year project against the backdrop of the 1,000-year history of Jews in Poland.

In Israel, there is neither civil marriage nor civil divorce. Only Orthodox rabbis can legalize a union or its dissolution, and a divorce is possible only with the husband’s consent.

Trapped in a loveless marriage, Viviane Amsalem has been applying for a divorce for three years, but her husband continually refuses. His cold intransigence, Viviane’s determination to fight for her freedom and the ambiguous role of the rabbinical judges shape a procedure where tragedy vies with absurdity and everything is brought into the open for judgment.

Director Richard Kane follows Imber as he remains determined to continue his work as an artist. His resolve leads to the creation of more than 100 portraits in an incredible four-month span.

The film sensitively observes Imber at his most courageous and humorous as disease claims his body. Thanks to the support of his wife, he learns to paint with his left hand, and eventually with both hands held together at his waist.

Knowing what fate holds, Jon Imber shows what it is to truly live and die through art.

Yehezkel and his wife Levana are seniors living quiet lives at a Jerusalem retirement home. They are astonished when their dear friend Max turns to Yehezkel, an amateur inventor, with a request: could he build a machine that will help Max, who is facing a certain and difficult death, end his suffering?

Max agrees to do his best, but Levana is absolutely opposed. Soon, more and more of their friends start asking for Max’s help.

Overcoming the teens’ apathy proves to be more difficult than Anne expected. Frustrated but undaunted, she tests her multicultural classroom with a surprising assignment: a national competition on the theme of child victims of the Nazi concentration camps.

Initially, the students meet the project with resistance. Then a guest – a Holocaust survivor – comes to speak to the class. Rosenwald (Flint only)

USA, 2015, 95 minutes, English “Rosenwald” is the incredible true story of the son of an immigrant peddler who never finished high school, who was in financial ruin before he turned 24 – yet who became the head of one of the nation’s largest retailers and was one of the country’s greatest philanthropists.

Julius Rosenwald was president and part owner of Sears, Roebuck and Company. When a friend introduced him to Booker T. Washington, Rosenwald became deeply interested in helping African-American communities during the Jim Crow era, eventually building 5,300 schools and providing 660,000 black children with access to education in the segregated South.

His compassion, he said, came from his own experiences: “The horrors that are due to race prejudice come home to the Jew more forcefully than to others of the white race, on account of the centuries of persecution which they have suffered and still suffer.”

Barry Levine “Tuviansky” is an astonishing true account of an Israel Defense Forces captain who, in the course of just four hours, was arrested, tried, sentenced and executed for treason – only to be exonerated one year later.

Meir Tuviansky served with the British army during WWII, then with Haganah and the IDF. In 1948, he was arrested on suspicion of passing information about Israeli targets attacked by the Jordanian army. He was arrested and killed before he even had the chance to speak with a lawyer.

One person, though, never doubted Tuviansky’s innocence, and it was only thanks to her efforts that the truth was finally revealed.

The two form a deep bond informed by Ruth’s tragic love for a man in post-WWII Germany – a love burdened by the legacy of the horrors of history. As Jonas discovers Ruth’s past and takes part in her present, his attentions and the passionate, lusty Yiddish songs of her youth help her find the way back to life.

DuPont/Columbia Awards.

His credits include “Risk Takers,” an adaptation of “Invisible Man,” “Sister Rose’s Passion,” “Constantine’s Sword,” “Lafayette: The Lost Hero,” “The Last Girl on Earth,” “Topdog Diaries,” “The Shakespeare Sessions,” “The Beatles Revolution,” “Swingin’ with the Duke” and many more.

A graduate of Brown University and the Yale School of Drama, he has directed plays at the Williamstown Theater Festival, Ensemble Studio Theater, Theater for the New City and the West Bank Café. He lives with his wife Betsy West and daughter in New York.

Like many of his Jewish friends, he fled Europe during WWII and came to live in South America.

But now turning 76 he has become grumpy, fed up with his community and his family’s lack of interest in its heritage.

One beach bar may, however, provide him with an unexpected opportunity to achieve greatness and recover his family’s respect: Could the owner be a former Nazi?

Ignoring concerns about his health, Jacob secretly recruits Contreras, a police officer more loyal than honest, to help him investigate.

Together, they will try to repeat the historic capture of Adolf Eichmann by unmasking and kidnapping the German and secretly taking him to Israel.
