Winter 2026 Program Guide jccbuffalo.org
December 21, 2025 – March 14, 2026
A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO Dear Members and Friends, As we welcome winter and the start of a new year, I’m filled with gratitude for all we’ve accomplished together. 2025 was a year of extraordinary milestones for our JCC—from celebrating our 80th Anniversary to launching our Shaping Futures campaign, which is already inspiring tremendous generosity and hope for what’s to come. This season, as you explore the programs and opportunities in these pages, I invite you to see them not just as activities—but as reflections of what your support makes possible. Every class taken, every friendship formed, and every moment of joy within our walls happens because of the community that stands with us. We are committed to long-term sustainability, ensuring the JCC remains strong and vibrant for generations to come. Your belief in our mission helps us turn that vision into reality. Together, we are shaping a future that is bright, inclusive, and full of possibility. With heartfelt gratitude,

VIRTUAL ON ZOOM Exploring Jewish Buffalo Histories Over Two Centuries February 9, 16, & 23 | 7:00–8:00 pm | FREE
From the 19th century, Jews have made their home in Buffalo bringing and building an array of attachments and connections while forging ever-evolving paths in the city and suburbs. Part of the breadth of Jewish life in America, Jewish Buffalonians have created a diverse array of local institutions and organizations, businesses, and initiatives as they have responded to challenges and changes as individuals, families and neighbors. Within a mix of old and new, settled and fluid, Jewish Buffalo stories are a vital and dynamic part of the broader Greater Buffalo region. Together, we will trace these local, national and international stories from the 1840s to our contemporary times.
Author Christine Kuehn presents Family of Spies Wednesday, February 11 | 7:00–8:30 pm | $10
A propulsive, never-before-told story of one family’s shocking involvement as Nazi and Japanese spies during WWII and the pivotal role they played in the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The Kuehns, a once prominent Berlin family, saw the rise of the Nazis as a way out of the hard times that had befallen them. When the daughter of the family, Eberhard’s sister and Christine’s Aunt Ruth, met Nazi leader Joseph Goebbells at a party, the two hit it off, and they had an affair. But Ruth had a secret — she was half Jewish, and Goebbells found out. Rather than having Ruth killed, Goebbels instead sent the entire Kuehn family to Hawaii, to work as spies half a world away. There, Christine’s grandparents and her Aunt Ruth established an intricate spy operat ion from their home, and passed secrets to the Japanese, leading to the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor. Jumping back and forth from Christine discovering her family’s secret to the untold past of spies in Germany, Japan and Hawaii, Family of Spies is fast-paced history at its finest, and will rewrite the narrative of December 7, 1941.

February 6 - March 1 Directed by Kyle Lo Conti
This powerful and emotionally charged play delves into a little-known chapter of history, exploring the moral complexities and personal sacrifices involved in rescue efforts during the Holocaust. Set against the backdrop of 1939, just before World War II fully erupts, the play follows Evelyn and Leonard Kirsch—an American Jewish couple who choose not to flee from danger, but to step into it. Their mission: to rescue 40 Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Europe and bring them to safety in the United States. Highlighting the human cost of heroism and the fragility of moral certainty, this fascinating play questions how far one should go to help others, especially when the personal toll is high and the outcomes uncertain. Through sharp dialogue and complex characters, Sheltered becomes both a historical drama and a reflection on contemporary questions of responsibility, identity, and compassion.

TREE OF LIFE
Saturday, March 21 | 7:00 pm
The Maxine and Robert Seller Theatre
Sunday, March 22 | 7:00 pm The Sanctuary at Temple Beth Zion
Experience a powerful new work that spans generations and bridges past and present. In Tree of Life, a small-town Iowa synagogue on the verge of decline receives an unexpected visitor, unlocking a moving tale of its founding—and the mysterious journey of its Torah—told in parallel, a century apart. Each performance will feature prominent voices from the Jewish and theater communities and will be followed by a special talkback with playwright Victor Wishna, along with community members who grew up in small-town synagogues.
May 7 - June 7
Directed by Charmagne Chi
After following an anti-Semitic tweet aimed in his direction down an online rabbit hole, comedian Alex Edelman finds himself in an unexpected place: at a meeting of White Nationalists in Queens, face-to-face with the people behind the keyboards. What follows makes up the backbone of this show, equal parts hilarious and gripping, that made its way from small London theaters to a unanimously well-received hit run on Broadway. Within JUST FOR US, Edelman, who was awarded a Special Tony Award® for the show, explores religion, cultural identity, assimilation, empathy, gorillas that speak sign language—and what it means to be confronted with hatred.
Starring: Jordan Levin

BE THE DIFFERENCE: HELP FAMILIES FIND JOY AND STRENGTH AT THE JCC Across the street from the Benderson Family Building, you may have noticed the North Forest Farm Stand—filled with fresh flowers, cookies, brownies, and pies baked by Jenn, a talented pastry chef who shares her creations with the neighborhood. Behind the stand is a story of remarkable courage. Jenn is living with a rare stage 4 cancer, and every bouquet and cookie sold helps pay for the treatments keeping her alive. Despite her diagnosis, she continues to pour love and hope into everything she makes, turning her journey into one of strength and gratitude. This past summer, Jenn and her husband Nick received a priceless gift: their son Harry was able to attend Camp Centerland through a scholarship from the JCC’s All for One Fund. For nine joyful weeks, Harry laughed, swam, played with friends, and simply got to be a kid. As Jenn and Nick shared, “The JCC gave our son the best summer of his life. While I am fighting for my health, he was able to just be a kid. That scholarship means more to us than words can express.” This is the impact of giving to the JCC. Your generosity doesn’t just fund programs—it eases burdens, brings joy, and gives families strength in their hardest moments. You can help by: • Making a gift of $36, $72, or any amount that’s meaningful to you. Scan to QR code or visit jccbuffalo.org/support-us • Joining the CEO’s Chai Society with a monthly gift starting at just $18. Monthly giving is simple, affordable, and ensures the JCC’s programs have steady support year-round. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you for helping create a community where families find hope, support, and belonging. For more information on supporting the JCC, contact Alexander J. LIFE & LEGACY ENTERS YEAR 5!
Life & Legacy is a collaborative initiative that helps individuals and families create legacy gifts, providing a permanent source of support for the Jewish causes we care about in Western New York. Founded on the principle that all of us, regardless of age, wealth or affiliation, can make an enduring impact, this program ensures that you will be remembered by those who directly benefit from your generosity as well as those who will be inspired by your example for future generations. The JCC is proud to have over 70 Life & Legacy commitments, totaling nearly $2.7 million in future permanent endowment funds. These funds will ensure that the JCC continues its vital mission for generations to come.
