





The Reverend Jarrett Britton Washington will represent the Church’s voice, understand the idiosyncrasies of our tradition, and will act in the best interest of the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s bright future.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Reverend Jarrett Britton Washington first encountered the Lord at the Bethel African MethodistEpiscopal ChurchofRavenel,SC.
Reverend Washington attended the College of Charleston and graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2004. After graduating, Reverend Washington entered the Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2008, he graduated with both the Master of Divinity Degree with a Concentration in Homiletics and the Master of Arts in Christian Education. While attending Turner, Reverend Washington served as the Youth and Young Adult Ministries Coordinator at Antioch AME in Stone Mountain, Georgia under the leadership of the (now) Bishop Stafford J. N. Wicker.
Reverend Washington is a member of the Palmetto South Carolina Annual Conference of the 7th Episcopal District. He is a Past President of the Seventh Episcopal District Young People’s and Children’s Division. He is an elected and ordained Itinerant Elder in the AME Church. He was an elected delegate to the 50th and 51st Sessions of the AME Church General Conference. He is a member of the General Board of the AME Church. His involvement in the AME Church’s ministries has allowed him to travel extensively both nationally and internationally ministering the word of God in places as far as Southern Africa.
Reverend Washington serves as the Senior Pastor and Shepherd of the Hopewell African Methodist Episcopal Church of Hemingway, SC. Previous to his assignment at The House of Hope (a name the church has been given by the community), Reverend Washington served well the congregations of New Bethel AME Church in Red Top, South Carolina and Saint James AME Church in Johns Island, South Carolina. Under his leadership the House of Hope has come together under the vision to be a place of H.O.P.E. where God’s Healing, Omnipresence, Praise, and Evangelism is woven into every
fiber of the ministry. Countless ministries have been birthed, men and women of God have accepted their calls to ministry; lives are continuously changed, souls are set free, and many are delivered because of the preaching, teaching, administration, and leadership of Pastor Washington.
Reverend Washington has served as the elected Secretary for the Palmetto South Carolina Annual Conference of the Seventh Episcopal District since 2016. In 2017, Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr. appointed him the Seventh Episcopal District Secretary. In 2022, Reverend Washington announced his candidacy for Chief Information Officer, General Secretary of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Reverend Washington is a successful program developer and published curriculum writer and has published several works. He is the author of the life-changing workbook entitled, Tell the Devil I’m Back! From 2009-2021 he served as the Co-Editor for the Voice of Missions Magazine of the Department of Global Witness and Ministry. From 2011 to 2021, he served as the Graphic Design Editor for the Connectional Women’s Missionary Society Missionary Magazine. Reverend Washington is the creator of the international emblem and the connectionalsignaturepinfortheWomen’sMissionarySociety.
Reverend Washington is an active and engaged member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and he provides service through the Xi Phi Lambda Alumni Chapter located in Summerville, South Carolina. He currently serves as a chairperson for the South Carolina District of Alphas, as well as, a member of the Southern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi) Awards and Achievement Committee Co-Chairperson.
Reverend Washington is married to Deronda Corbin Washington. They are the parents of one daughter, a gift to the body of Christ, Little Ms. Braylen Jael. As a family they remain knowing that “the LORD knows the plans he has for them, plans to prosper them and not to harm them, plans to give them hope and a future!”

Reverend Washington understands the power of protocol, order, and procedure and its operation in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. There is an understanding that what he dictates or communicates should always be in words salted with grace. As a General Board member, Annual Conference Trustee, Episcopal District Secretary, Conference Registrar, and elected officer of political, secular, and religious organizations (to name a few) Reverend Washington provides leadership, knowledge, and a variety of skills that afford him the accountability needed to be the General Secretary – Chief Information Officer of the AME Church.
Render service with enthusiasm, as for the Lord and not for humans, knowing that whatever good we do, we will receive the same again from the Lord, whether we are enslaved or free.

Reverend Washington desires to live a life devoted to being an enthusiastic and innovative servant of God. Not only does he provide passionate pastoral care, but he devotes himself to learning new skills that push the kingdom of God forward. Graphic designer, Content Editor, Entrepreneur, Show Producer, and Digital Marketing Professional are all areas that Reverend Washington continues to hone as he cares for the people of God. He knows that while offering God his best, God can and will provide even greater.

Reverend Washington is well prepared in heart and mind. Beyond his degrees in Political Science and dual Masters in Divinity and Christian Education, he knows that his on the job experience as an Annual Conference Secretary and trainer of Secretaries is most valuable to his future endeavors. On day one he will have the knowledge base to successfully transition into the position. He believes that his experience connectionally, will help to foster his work as the General Secretary –Chief Information Officer of the AME Church.
