Greetings & Introduction Sincerest Christian greetings to you, brothers and sisters in Christ! Allow me to thank you for your continued support to the Youth Department’s mandate to reach, renew and rejoice. The JBUYD continues the two-year term under the theme, Living in Partnership: Sharing the Vision, Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges. We invite you once again to participate in our annual National Conference and Rally 2019. We anticipate a time of fellowship, fun and fulfilling faith, as well as friendly rivalry in competition. As is customary for the second year of the term, the business meeting at this year’s Conference and Rally will also see the election of the incoming Executive, who will take over the JBUYD’s mandate in the 2019-2021 term. We crave your prayers as we seek God’s guidance in selecting His servants to fill these roles. A brief overview of Conference and Rally 2019 is given below. Details follow for each event. Conference

Conference 2019 The weekend of activities will commence with our annual Conference. This year’s staging will be under the theme Preparing, Praising, Persevering. It will be held on November 21-22, 2019 at the JBU Conference Centre (Nutshell) in Duncans, Trelawny, with the Opening Service starting at 7:00 pm on Thursday. The Conference will be used to highlight and review the JBUYD’s two-year term, elect a new executive, and to obtain feedback on critical issues from conferees.
Schedule & Attendance The weekend’s schedule will include an opening (worship) service, the annual business meeting and a variety of sessions geared toward conferees’ spiritual and holistic development. In addition to this, our business meeting will be used to select the new National Executive through a democratic voting process. Note that there is no limit on the number of attendees from any single congregation, fellowship, committee or group. However, while the invitation is open to all youth, at least one representative from each parish youth association is required. Parish presidents are the ideal choice, but they may designate this responsibility to members of their local executives. Two representatives from each church are also further required to act as delegates. These persons, along with the JBUYD Executive, will have voting rights during the business meeting. All other conferees will attend as observers. Note that youth from other denominations are also welcome to attend as observers.

The registration process will be completed onsite at Nutshell, both before and after the Opening Service. The fee for full attendance at the 2019 Conference is $5,900, and is inclusive of the costs indicated below. Rally 2019 This year’s annual Rally will highlight youth in ministry under the theme Kulcha Vybez. In the Rally, we will seek to celebrate the various partnerships which make the Jamaican culture unique. The event will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Ocho Rios Baptist Church in St. Ann, starting at 8:00 am. We encourage you to come out, even if your church or circuit is not competing. The entry fee for the event is $150. Each person is required to pay this fee upon entering the venue. If you are travelling in a large party, as in the case of buses, we kindly ask that you collect the fees before arriving to prevent the build-up of traffic at the gate.
How Will Points be Awarded? At the National level, each participating zone will be assigned points according to their placement in the various competitions, as well as in social media voting competitions, as follows: Position

These points will be tallied at the end of all competitions and voting periods. The zone with the highest number of points will be declared the winning zone for Rally 2019 and will have bragging rights for the year. Social media voting will be allowed in specified competitions, but the online voting results will not affect the position of the items in the general competitions. Instead, the results of the competitions will be the decision of the judges. All decisions taken by the judges are final.

Special Features and Opportunities Here are our special features for this year’s Rally. 1. Stay tuned Updates of the happenings of the event will be posted using our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, with highlights being placed on our YouTube page. You can catch us on social media with the handle @jbuyouth. 2. Tell us… You will be able to participate by sending in your queries, suggestions and concerns via social media before and during the events using the hashtag #JBUYCAR. We are pleased to offer more competitions this year in keeping with recommendations from our youth. These will include the reintroduction of sporting activities at the event. We are also excited for new competitions, like our domino tournament, fashion design competition and logo competitions, as well as changes to our quiz competitions. Look for further details later in this correspondence. 4. Vote, Vote, Vote! We are excited to reintroduce the feature that was used in years past which enabled you to contribute points to your Zone for the Rally. This time around you will be able to vote for the fashion concept of your choice online and via text message during the Fashion Design competition. See details of each of these voting periods below with each competition. Look out for other prizes and surprises on the day!

General Guidelines Each competitor must be an active member of a youth-related ministry in a Baptist church, such as (but not limited to) a Sunday School class, Youth Fellowship or Young Adult Fellowship. Membership in a Baptist church will also be accepted as grounds for you to compete. Competitors are required to adhere to the age stipulations below: Juniors
Teams must be comprised of competitors aged seven (7) to fifteen (15) years
Seniors
Teams must be comprised of competitors aged sixteen (16) to forty (40) years
Open
Teams may be comprised of either junior or senior competitors, or a mix of the two
Mixed
Teams must be comprised of both junior and senior competitors
Churches must adhere to the criteria and guidelines for all areas of competition. Teams which do not observe these rules risk the loss of points or disqualification.
Fact Sheets Fact sheets will be utilised in this year’s competitions to detail the inspiration behind the production of specific entries. Fact sheets are to be presented on a per-competition basis (that is, one fact sheet per entry, per competition). Fact sheets must be presented to the judges at all levels of competition, and must be endorsed by a pastor, deacon or youth director in your church or circuit. Fact sheets will be required for the Logo and Fashion Design competitions this year. Fact sheets must be presented on or before the day of competition to the relevant authorities.
Bible Quiz | Mixed, 4 participants per team This year’s quiz will take a different format. While the first and last sections will remain as per usual, the second section will consist of a face-off between members of opposing teams. Each person will be asked a total of three questions from each of the sections below. Participants will be asked questions from the 1984 New International Version (NIV) and the Jamiekan Nyuu Testiment (JNT). These will be collectively referred to as Bible Knowledge. Questions will also be taken from the areas of Baptist Current Affairs, Baptist History and

Jamaican Culture. Questions on Baptist current affairs, history and culture will be included at all levels of competition, in addition to the passages below. All resources, including PDF and audio files, may be downloaded at https://tinyurl.com/JBUYCAR-BibleQuiz19. 1. For Parish Eliminations, questions will be taken from James 1-2, NIV. 2. For Zone Eliminations, questions will be taken from James 3 and 5, NIV and James 4, JNT. 3. For National Rally, questions will be from taken James 1-3 and 5, NIV and James 4, JNT. Teams must be comprised of two (2) senior and two (2) junior players at all levels of competition. Failure to adhere to this rule will disallow the violating team from participating in the competition. Substitutions will be allowed before each match; however, no substitution may be made during the match.
Choral Speaking | Mixed, 6-10 participants per team Teams will be required to recite Psalm 23 from the Patois Bible. The Psalm has been translated by the Bible Society of the West Indies for the purposes of the competition and may be accessed exclusively from the link https://tinyurl.com/JBUYCAR-Speech19. Choral Singing | Open, 10-18 participants per team Groups will be required to present a piece by a Jamaican Gospel Singer from before the year 2000. Suggested artistes/groups include (but are not limited to) Robert and Genieve Bailey, Glacia Robinson, Sandra Brooks or Grace Thrillers. Here are the rules of the competition: 1. The piece must last no more than six (6) minutes, including stage entry and exit. 2. No rap or deejay will be allowed in the presentation of the song, except that which is included in the original recording of the song. 3. Medleys or combinations of songs will be allowed. Dance Drama | Mixed, 6-12 participants per team In this year’s dance competition, groups will compete using the song “Nara [Live]” by Tim Godfrey feat. Travis Greene. The piece should tell the story of one historical event taking place in Jamaica (for example, the Morant Bay Rebellion, Emancipation Day, Independence Day, etc.). The historical event chosen needs not be limited to the choices given above. Note that the piece has already been modified for the competition, and therefore the preselected piece given by the JBUYD at the downloadable link below must be used. Here are the rules of the competition: 1. The presentation must last no more than six (6) minutes, including stage entry and exit. 2. The presentation must use the song as prepared and as available at the link https://tinyurl.com/JBUYCAR-Dance19. The track should not be edited for the competition. 3. Logo Competition | Open, 1-4 participants per group The Jamaica Baptist Union Youth Department will be celebrating its 25 th Anniversary in 2020. In commemoration of and preparation for this event, a competition to design a logo for the 25 th anniversary celebrations to be used on all correspondence, promotional material and social media platforms relating to the anniversary celebrations for the years 2019-2021. A fact sheet will be required for this competition. The winners of the competition from the parish level will automatically advance to the National level. The entries will be judged ahead of the Rally, and entries will be exhibited on the day of the Rally. Here are the rules of the competition: 1. The logo must reflect the 25 years of ministry and mission of the JBUYD. 2. The logo should be sent in two forms: colour and black and white (two-tone). 3. The logo should be no more than 5MB and be saved as SVG, WMF or PNG file type (SVG is preferred). 4. The logo must be the original work of the entrant. It should not bear any personal marks or signatures, neither should it feature any watermarks, clip art or pre-made templates. 5. The official emblem of the Youth Department may or may not be used. If it is used, it should not be edited in any shape or form for the purposes of this competition. A copy of it will be made available for use at https://tinyurl.com/JBUYCAR-Logo19. 6. The logo and fact sheet must be placed in a compressed folder and uploaded to https://tinyurl.com/JBUYCAR-UploadLogo19 and/or be submitted to Parish Presidents via USB/Flash/Thumb Drive, CD, or DVD. 7. All entries advancing from parish finals must be submitted to the JBU Offices by or before October 13, 2019 and from this point become the property of the Jamaica Baptist Union. Entries submitted after this point will not be accepted. 8. Persons who are currently earning from their graphic skills shall be prohibited from entry. 9. Culinary Arts | Open This category aims to exhibit the culinary skills of our youth as they create ethnically inspired dishes. Youth will be challenged to prepare a meal from any one of the ethnic groups given below. Note that a meal will include a main dish as well as up to two sides or accompaniments. Here are the rules of the competition: 1. Competitors must prepare a meal from any one of the given ethnic groups: Chinese, Indian, African or Spanish. No mixing of ethnic groups will be allowed. 2. The meal must be prepared before the staging of each level of competition and presented / exhibited on the competition day. 3. The presentation of the meal must include labels that identify the ethnic group to which the dish belongs. This presentation must also consider the use of appropriate container(s). 4. The presentation of meals must be done under hygienic conditions. Displays must be protected from flies, dust and other environmental elements, without detracting from the presentation, allowing for viewing and judging.

Fashion Design | Open, 1-2 participants per team In this competition, entrants will be required to design two outfits (one for male, one for female) which are representative of our Jamaican culture. A fact sheet will be required for this competition. Social media and text voting will be used to decide the most popular fashion designs on the day of the Rally. The entrants’ designs will be posted on our social media pages on the day of Rally. Attendees will then be called to give a like to the entrant of their choice, with each like representing a vote for that design. The zone that gets the most likes within the predetermined period will receive 5 points to their overall zone total for the day. Here are the rules of the competition: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Two separate outfits must be created: one for male and one for female. The outfits must be modest in character. The outfits must be presented as sketches at the parish level. Sports | Open This year, as per your requests, we will be engaging our youth with Football, Netball, and Domino competitions. The rules governing these competitions can be found at the link https://tinyurl.com/JBUYCAR-Sports19. Please bear in mind that sport events will be run concurrently on the day of Rally. Churches are therefore advised to find unique players for each of the sporting competitions. Note that at all levels of competition, an endorsement form will be required. This endorsement form will include the names of the participants in the competition and their church involvement. This form must be endorsed by the pastor, deacon or youth director of the given church or circuit. Competitors whose names are not found on the endorsement form will not be allowed to play. The endorsement form is attached to the end of the document.
