Scoring System

The Showdown Crown is the most prestigious title in competitive meat fishing. The scoring format assigns a score based on where a team finishes in each tournament. A linear scoring system emphasizes performance and consistency, the benchmark of a true champion in any sport. And to the victor, goes the spoils, a custom set of Superbowl style championship rings.

Living Water / Makin' Time A Champion’s Story Last year was a wild ride for the Living Water / Makin’ Time team.

But, to be completely honest, winning our 2nd Showdown Crown in 2020 was a relatively stress-free victory when compared to 2014, because none of us expected to pull it off last year. Prior to our 1st overall title in 2014, we had been close a few times with several top 3 finishes, but the Showdown Crown had eluded us. The 2014 Crown started with a bang in the Shootout when we broke the overall total weight record for the series with 253 lbs with only 8 fish… 4 solid

kings and 4 nice tunas. We had the lead right out of the gates in 2014 and put a ton of pressure on ourselves to hold that lead wire to wire.

When it was all said and done, we finally captured that elusive first Crown while simultaneously getting that giant monkey off our backs!

On the other hand, our 2020 Crown felt more like a half-court shot at the buzzer that nobody really expects to make. Realistically, I think most of us thought that Gator One’s lead after the first two legs would put the Crown out of reach for those of us sitting in positions 2-5. But, we all know that fishing is an unpredictable game. In the spring, with COVID raging full steam ahead, the Living Water /Makin’ Time team was stoked to hear that Jamie and the staff at Bluewater Movements were working hard to overcome many obstacles in order to keep the series in play for their anglers. As we all know, once the dust settled, the Shootout was moved to July, so the Slam in June was the first order of business in the series. And, after finishing 3rd in the Slam in 2019 and taking 2nd place in 2015 and 2017, we were hoping to stay consistent in this tournament and start the year off with a solid finish.

As always, bait was priority one and pre-fishing priority two!

One advantage for us is that we typically fish two boats on pre-fish days and cover different areas, which is what we did in the Slam.

Unfortunately, Friday was somewhat slow for both Living Water and Makin’ Time on our Mercury powered 39 and 32 SeaVees. Each boat

only caught a handful of kingfish in the 10-15 lb range fishing from Jupiter to Boca. Come Saturday morning, we had our team meeting to decide where we should fish. We decided to start fishing north of Boynton inlet where we had a few of the kings the day before. We set 3 kites out and a few flat and deep lines and caught a decent tuna and king on the first drift. The bite wasn’t great for us, but we picked at em all day in the same general area.

One of the lessons we’ve learned over the years is, “don’t leave fish to find fish”. With that game plan in the Slam, we added another tuna and 4 decent kings from 14-28 lbs. to the box. We ended up with a respectable 6th place finish with 129 lbs. just behind Art and team Native Son who finished 5th. This neck-and-neck battle would become a theme for us over the next two legs as well... against the 5 time Champs.

The Shootout, which was moved to July, proved to be the most challenging of the 3 tournaments for us. The storms were raging throughout the day and the electricity in the air was snapping the braid on our kites all day. Fortunately, Kurtis, Chuck and Chris were able to rig a few kites with mono leader and some extra clips so we could keep a few kites up. Fishing was really slow as we picked at snake kings from Boynton to Lake Worth all morning. At about 1:30pm, we only had 1 weigher king and a tuna in the boat and I told the guys to bring in the lines because we had to make the run to Jupiter and take our chances there. The weeds and sharks were thick there the day before but a captain I know called us with a decent mid day report so we made the run.

For some reason, we’ve always managed to do well with the Hoos in the series. And, after pulling off the KDW jackpot in 2019, we liked our chances of finding one in the Showdown.

But, we started to hear rumblings that the Showdown Crown was in play for us. We knew that Art and the crew on Native Son finished 3rd right behind us, and that we held a narrow 1 point lead over them in the point standings after being tied going in, but we didn’t know where Gator One had finished yet. Well, shortly after all the final teams weighed in, we got the call from Jamie that we had pulled off the 2020 Showdown Crown victory. We were pumped to pull off our second crown and we’re definitely looking forward to the 2021 season.

Last year we made a conscious decision to make sure our team worked just as hard as we always do, but that we also wouldn’t lose sight of the importance of having some fun in the process. There’s

a balance that we try to find, and it can be elusive, but time on the water is a gift and we can’t lose sight of that fact...even in competition.

We appreciate every guy on our team and they all play a huge part in any success we experience as a “team”. This series is by far the best spring/summer tournament series in this great state. series rules GENERAL RULES

1. Early Registration: Please visit fish.bluewatermovements.com to register online.

Teams that wish to pay by check may do so by mailing the check to: Bluewater Movements, Inc., PO Box 50114, Lighthouse Point, FL 33074. Early entry fee ($401.25) closes on the following dates: Shootout: 4/30/21 – Payment by check will not be accepted after 4/30/21.

Slam: 5/28/21 – Payment by check will not be accepted after 5/28/21.

Showdown: 7/30/21 – Payment by check will not be accepted after 7/30/21.

2. Late Registration: Kickoff parties and final registration will be held at the Pompano Beach Civic Center located at 1801 NE 6th Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33060.

Registrations at the kickoff must be paid by cash or credit ($508.25). Entry fees are not refundable for any reason.

SHOOTOUT: Thursday, May 13th, 2021 SLAM: Thursday, June 10th, 2021 SHOWDOWN: Thursday, August 12th, 2021 3. Entry Forms: Registration must be completed by the captain or owner with appropriate fees and registration information. Officials reserve the right to refuse application or entry into any tournament at their discretion with or without cause.

4. Anglers: Each boat may register as many anglers as they choose. Participating anglers should be provided to tournament staff in advance of fishing. Please notify the committee of any angler changes prior to the start of fishing.

5. Waiver: All members on board a participating teams boat must review, sign, and submit the Participant Waiver form as a condition of participation in the tournaments.

Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

6. Eligible Species: Dolphin, Kingfish, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna and Cobia 7. Fish Limit: A maximum of 10 fish may be weighed in per boat. Each boat may weigh in a total of 4 fish per species. Each fish must weigh a minimum of 10 pounds. Fish that do not meet these requirements will not count. All boats must adhere to state of Florida recreational bag limits as they pertain to all eligible species. Boats possessing commercial licenses may not utilize them during tournament competition.

8. Tackle: All fish must be caught on rod and reel. Wire lines are permitted. No electric reels (except kite rods & downriggers). Treble hooks are permitted. Harpoons may not be used for any purpose in the tournament.

9. Bait & Bait Fishing: Fishing with live bait is permitted in the tournaments; however, live chumming is not permitted. Live baits may not be removed from a hook or baitwell thrown against any object or surface on the boat and then placed in the water. Live baits may not be removed from a hook or baitwell, then cut in half and thrown into the water. If a bait is not attached to a hook connected by line to a fishing rod, it must be completely dead before it is placed in the water. Live bait teasers are not allowed.

All teams in the tournaments are prohibited from having any boats outside the tournaments to live chum on their behalf. Frozen chum and cut bait are permitted.

Registered boats may catch their own bait at any time during the tournaments.

10. Hook & Catch: All male, female and junior anglers must hook, fight, and catch their own fish. Once a fish is hooked, that angler must fight the fish until it is properly released, boated or lost. Anglers may not pass rods to fellow anglers once a fish has been hooked. A fish is considered to be hooked once a strike occurs and the drag is engaged or the bail is closed. The use of a rod holder to hook a fish is allowable provided the individual that engages the drag is the same person that fights the fish until release, catch or loss.

11. Tournament Channel: The tournament committee will operate on channel 74.

Channel 68 will be used as an alternate. All discussions among competitors should be conducted on alternate channels.

12. Boundaries: North - 27.05 South - 25.25

East - 79.35

13. Check-Out: There is not a land based checkout location for the tournaments. Prior to the start of fishing, each team must video the time, date, and GPS coordinates to verify they are within the stated boundaries. That video must be uploaded to an online team folder provided by the committee.

14. Inspection: Tournament officials reserve the right to inspect any boat participating in the tournaments during the day of competition. Any boat that refuses inspection will be automatically disqualified from the tournaments.

15. LINES IN: 7:30am.

16. Landfall: Following check-out, or once fishing hours have begun, no boats will be permitted to touch land until reaching the docks for the weigh-in. Special consideration will be given for medical conditions and special circumstances that may arise during the day of fishing. The committee must be notified in advance of any situation that may warrant exception to this rule.

17. Check-In: No lines out of the water. All boats with fish to weigh must be visually checked in by displaying their boat number to the tournament committee at designated location by tournament committee no later than 4:30 pm, regardless of hook-ups.

Boats that do not check in by 4:30 pm will not be eligible to weigh their fish.

18. Weigh-In: The main weigh station for the Shootout is located at Alsdorf Park, 2974 NE 14th Street, Pompano Beach Florida 33062. The location for the Slam and Showdown is Sullivan Park in Deerfield. A secondary weigh station will be available for express weigh-in’s at Lighthouse Point Marina ONLY for the Shootout and Slam.

Boats that wish to weigh their fish at the Lighthouse Point Marina must notify the tournament committee before bringing their fish to that location. The scales at both locations will open at 4:00pm. All fish must be brought to the weigh station in the boat that they were caught. Transferring of fish to another boat will result in disqualification. All decisions of the weigh master are final.

19. Weather: In the event that weather conditions arise deemed unsafe for the average registered boat, by the tournament officials, a tournament may be called off for that day.

No refunds will be made in the event of cancellation. Any notice of cancellation will be broadcast on channel 74. If Saturday is weathered out, the cancelled tournament will be moved to the same hours on Sunday. It is expressly understood that the permitting of fishing by tournament officials does not ensure the safety of registered anglers or any other occupants of their vessels. Captains, anglers and all other members of registered boats must determine in their own judgment whether to fish under the given conditions based on factors including but not limited to the seaworthiness of their boat and their own seamanship.

20. Protests: All protests must be made within 4 hours of the conclusion of fishing along with $500 cash or check to the tournament officials. Protests should be made based on first hand eyewitness information. All decisions of the tournament officials regarding protests are final.

21. Polygraph: By entering the tournaments all captains, anglers and occupants of their boats voluntarily consent to submit to a polygraph examination as deemed necessary by tournament officials. All decisions of the polygraph examiner will be final.

Any captain, angler or occupant of a registered boat who refuses to take a polygraph or provides untruthful answers as determined by the examiner will be disqualified from the respective tournament without further notice. Such a disqualification will eliminate payment or provision of any prize money, awards and/or refund of entrance fees.

22. Release: By registering for the tournaments, all captains, anglers and occupants of their boat hereby consent that tournament officials may use without payment or restriction, any photographs, video or interviews in which he or she may appear for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to resale, advertising and promotional material.

Hold Harmless: It is expressly understood that all registered participants and non-registered occupants of their boats enter into the events in the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit tournaments voluntarily and at their own risk. Further, each registered and non-registered participant on behalf of other family members and/or executors agrees to release and hold harmless Bluewater Movements Inc, its officers, directors, owners, members, representatives, agents, employees, independent contractors, volunteers, promoters, advertisers, sponsors, partners, joint ventures, affiliates, assigns, polygraph examiner, the city and county where the events are held and all other persons connected directly or indirectly with the operation of any event in the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit (collectively, “Released and Indemnified Parties”) from any and all claims, losses, damages, demands, causes of action, suits and liabilities of every kind arising out of, related to, or resulting from the tournament, activity or event, including but not limited to all events in the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, including without limitation, any claim for loss, damage or destruction of property, or injury (including death), regardless of whether such loss arises in whole or in part from the negligence of any Released and Indemnified Party. This release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as possible under applicable law, and if any portion of this release is held invalid or unenforceable, the balance shall continue in full force and legal effect. Jurisdiction over the tournament shall be exclusively that of the tournament director. All parties agree to be bound by the tournament director’s decisions without exception.

32. Small Boat Division: This division will only be available to boats of 26 feet or less and a maximum of 400HP. Boat lengths must be reported at registration as stated by the boat manufacturer. The tournament committee reserves the right to review documentation of any boat to establish qualification for this category. Boats in this division are still eligible for all other prize categories in the tournaments.

25. Signature: By registering for a tournament, the captain, owner or person responsible for the team’s registration acknowledges that all anglers and crew members on board the boat will abide by tournament rules.

COMPETITION RULES

26. Scoring: Each fish meeting weight requirements will be given a score of one point per pound. Mutilated fish will be disqualified. The decision of the weighmaster is final.

In the event of a weight tie, the money will be evenly distributed among the two places.

Ties are not broken by time.

27. Non-Pro Division: If any team member, mate or guest on a competing team’s boat has ever placed in the top 8 or higher in any PBSC event within the past 8 years of their competition, then that team shall not be eligible for the Non-Pro prize money categories.

Top teams that have not participated in a PBSC tournament in recent years who reenter the series, will be evaluated backwards from the previous date that they fished a PBSC event. SKA Pro teams are not eligible for this category. Charter boat captains are ineligible for this division. The tournament committee reserves the right to exercise final discretion in determining any team’s eligibility for this category. Non-Pro teams are eligible for all other prize money in the tournament.

28. Team Division: Top teams will be determined based on the total points scored by the registered anglers of each boat.

29. Junior Angler Division: Eligible to kids 15 and under. The junior angler points may also contribute to the total number of boat points. However, the junior angler is not eligible for any other top angler prizes.

33. Bluewater Challenge: Prize money in this division is awarded to the angler that catches the heaviest fish of a tournament. You must be entered in the division to qualify for the prize money.

34. Bluewater Bonanza: Prize money in this division is divided among the top three boats with the heaviest combined weight. The money is divided at 50% to 1st place, 30% to 2nd place, and 20% to 3rd place. You must be entered into the division to qualify for the prize money.

35. Small Boat Bonanza: Your boat must meet small boat requirements to enter this optional entry division. Prize money is divided among the top three small boats with the heaviest combined weight. 50% to 1st place, 30% to 2nd place, and 20% to 3rd place.

You must be entered in the division to qualify for the prize money. Small boat teams may also enter the Bluewater Bonanza.

36. Non-Pro Bonanza: You must qualify for ‘Non-Pro’ status in order to enter this optional entry division. Prize money is divided among the top three boats with the heaviest combined weight. 50% to 1st place, 30% to 2nd place and 20% to 3rd place.

You must be entered into the division in order to qualify for the prize money. Non-Pro teams may also enter the Bluewater Bonanza.

37. Ante Up: Prize money in this division is divided among the top two boats with the heaviest combined weight. The money is divided at 60% to 1st place and 40% to second.

You must be entered in the division to qualify for the prize money.

38. The Big Three: Prize money in this division is awarded for the 3 heaviest fish caught in a tournament. The money is divided as follows: 50% for heaviest fish, 30% for 2nd heaviest fish and 20% for the 3rd heaviest fish. You must be entered in the division in order to qualify for the prize money.

39. Holy Mackerel: Prize money in this division is awarded for the heaviest 3 Kingfish caught in a tournament. 50% of the money goes to the heaviest fish, 30% to the 2nd heaviest fish and 20% to the 3rd heaviest fish. You must be entered in this division in order to qualify for the prize money.

40. Kay Dee Dubya Jackpot: Prize money in this division is awarded to the team that weighs in the heaviest trio of Dolphin, Wahoo and Kingfish. If more than one team catches the KDW Jackpot, the winner will be determined by heaviest combined weight.

If there is no winner, then the money will roll into the next PBSC tournament where it will continue to grow until someone hits the Jackpot. You must be registered in this category in order to be eligible for the prize money.

30. Pee-Wee Angler: Eligible to kids 9 and under. No restrictions on species size or type except Billfish & Sharks for pee-wee anglers. However, the pee-wee angler points will not contribute to the total boat points. Pee-Wee anglers are allowed assistance in fighting the fish. A maximum of 5 fish may be weighed in by a pee-wee. Kids within this age bracket may elect to compete exclusively as a junior angler if they choose, however, they must do so according to the rules set forth for junior anglers.

41. Pick 3: Before the start of fishing, 3 of the 5 eligible species in the tournament will be drawn from a sealed container. The 3 species that are drawn must be caught on the day of the tournament in order to win the Pick 3 purse. If more than one team catches the Pick 3 trio, the winner will be determined by heaviest combined weight. If there is no winner, then the money will roll into the next PBSC tournament where a new Pick 3 drawing will take place and the purse will continue to grow until there is a winner. You must be registered for this category in order to be eligible for the prize money.

31. Family Division: In order to qualify for the Family Division there must be two or more immediate family members on the boat during the day of fishing. Ex: Husband, Wife, Parents, Children, Grandparents, Siblings (No In-Laws). Scoring for this category

42. Winnings: By law, all winners must fill out a W9 form prior to receiving any payments. Prize money will be withheld until a W9 form is received from the winner.

W9 forms will be available at the awards ceremony for each tournament.

FAQ summer series Can the captain also be an angler?

Yes. Completion of the captain’s section of the online registration form will qualify him or her as an angler.

Is there a physical checkout?

No, each team must video the time, date and their gps coordinates to verify they are in the boundaries prior to fishing.

How much does it cost to enter each tournament?

Early entry fee for each leg of the series is $375 per boat plus tax.

Late entry fee is $475 per boat. Refer to schedule of events for each leg for details on when early entry ends.

Is there a physical check-in location?

Yes, Hillsboro Inlet and/or Boca Inlet, depending on event, by 4:30pm.

Is there a general entry fee for the series?

No. Entry fees only apply to each individual leg of the series.

Are you required to fish all three legs of the series?

No. Teams are not required to fish all three legs to participate in the series. Of course, we would love to see you join us for all three though!

Do I have to pay extra to add additional anglers?

No. This is a boat tournament and we do not charge additional fees for additional anglers. Teams may carry as many anglers as they can safely accommodate on their boat.

Where can I register for the tournaments?

Upon receipt of the check in the mail, a staff member will contact the captain to complete the registration process.

KICKOFF PARTY: Final registration is available at each kickoff party from 6p-10p at the Pompano Beach Civic Center located at 1801 NE 6th Street, Pompano Beach, 33062.

Can I pay with a check at the kickoff party?

No. Acceptable payment methods at the kickoff party are cash, Mastercard, Visa & AmEx ONLY. No business or personal checks will be accepted at the kickoff party.

What are the eligible species of fish?

Dolphin, Wahoo, Kingfish, Cobia and Blackfin Tuna What is the minimum weight requirement for funfish?

10 pounds How many fish can we weigh?

4 per species and a maximum of 10 fish per boat.

What if there is a tie?

Can we use treble hooks?

Yes, treble hooks are permitted.

Is live chumming allowed?

No, however frozen chum and dead bait chum are allowed.

How many lines can we fish?

There is no line limit in the tournaments.

What are the boundaries in the tournaments?

North - 27.05 South - 25.25 East - 79.35 What time are Lines In? 7:30am Is there an official announcement of lines out of the water?

No. Boats that have fish to weigh in must be visually checked in by 4:30 pm. If you are late, you will be unable to weigh your catch.

Can a Peewee angler elect to fish as a junior angler so his/ her fish count toward the total weight for the team?

Yes. However, by electing to fish as a Junior Angler, he/she forfeits the right to any Peewee Angler prizes in the tournament. Also, he/ she must declare this on the tournament entry form by checking the correct box for ‘Angler Status.’ He/She must also fish according to the rules governing Junior anglers.

Can a Junior angler elect to fish as a male or female angler?

No. Junior anglers must compete within their own division until they reach 16 years of age.

Is there a maximum line test?

There is no limit on line test in the tournaments. Wire lines and braid line are also permitted.

The Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, IGFA, Fish Florida and Fish City Pride are excited to return with our 14th year of fun and educational fishing clinics for youngsters during the kickoff parties for each PBSC tournament. The clinics will be open to 30 children between the ages of 5 and 12. These hands-on learning clinics will cover everything from casting to knot tying, sportsmanship and regulations. The kids will also have the chance to get out for a FREE afternoon of fishing compliments of Fish City Pride drift fishing. Group reservations are not permitted.

BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONS, TEAM GATOR ONE DOES IT AGAIN!

The weather was wet, and the fishing conditions were tough, but that didn’t slow down the 77-boat fleet at the 22nd annual Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Shootout, July 16-19! Leg 2 of the 2020 Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit was flip-flopped with the Saltwater Slam from pushing the start of the series back due to the COVID-19 shut down. With fishing deemed one of the few activities to participate in safely these days, the tournament anglers were ready for some good old fashioned competition and that’s just what the Shootout delivered. Over 450 anglers were registered and competed for the $236,747 meat-fishing purse and the tournament was nothing short of action packed!

With clever and creative execution, the 2nd leg of the PBSC series was a socialdistancing success! The Saltwater Shootout began the tournament week with the annual Kick-off Party and Captains Meeting hosted at the Pompano Beach Civic Center Thursday, July 16th. As always, the incredible, Blue Moon Fish Co. served anglers menu favorites including oysters on the half shell, peel and eat shrimp, swordfish jambalaya, melt in your mouth prime rib, and more. The remote bars were flowing courtesy of Landshark Lager, Rabble Wine, Tito’s Vodka, and Bacardi. PBSC series sponsors like Bubba Blade, Bass Pro Shops, Grizzly Coolers, and White Water apparel kept the Spin-to-Win wheel, raffle, and auction areas stocked with great prizes to win.

As luck would have it, the weather conditions declined just before the morning checkout on tournament day. Foul weather gear was standard uniform for the teams on their way out the inlet for the 7am start. There were 2 optional categories on everyone’s agenda this day. The “Pick 3” had a whopping $89,820 up for grabs, and the 3 target species were kingfish, tuna, and wahoo for the chance to win the massive jackpot. The “KDW” jackpot boasted a stout payout reached $63,720, with teams having to catch the heaviest combo of kingfish, dolphin, and wahoo.

As the fish hit the scales, it looked like the top contenders from the Saltwater Slam we’re lining up to be the ones to beat yet again. Unfortunately, there were no dolphin weighed at the Shootout, which meant the “KDW” jackpot would rollover to the final leg in August. The first and second place spots in the Shootout were separated by only 2.5 pounds with Gator One taking the top spot over Hot Suppah. Captain Ryan McBride and his Gator One crew delivered back-to-back tournament wins with a total weight of 145 pounds in the Shootout! They won five categories and angler Corey McBride was the Top Male Angler with a total of 78.6 points. Gator One has racked up over $44,600 in winnings over the past two tournaments. Their biggest rival, Hot Suppah, cashed the largest check in the Shootout, which included the heaviest fish overall and a second place finish with a total of 142.5 pounds that earned a check for $27,471!

Bluewater Movements is proud to announce the partnership with Mission’ Fishin as the charitable beneficiary of the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit. Mission Fishin’ is a non profit organization in South Florida dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with special needs and their families.

By partnering with local anglers, businesses, and organizations, Mission Fishin’ provides these families and their children an unforgettable marine experience.

The children and their families have a once in a lifetime opportunity to do a variety of fishing with some of the best boat captains and charters in the South Florida region.

Mission Fishin’ was inspired by founder Tony Davis’ son Joshua. Josh is the youngest of three boys, in a family who is obsessed with the outdoors and being on the water. So naturally, Tony was excited to do more father son bonding with his youngest boy. However, his dreams quickly shattered when Josh was 10 months old. He was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, Cortical Vision Impairment, Epilepsy, and Gut Motility Disorder. Which meant Josh wouldn’t be like his brothers, and would have difficulty talking, would never be able to walk, he would require a wheelchair to get around and would need a feeding tube for nutrition.

This was devastating news for the Davis family. Their

hearts broke over the sudden realization that Josh would have a hard time fitting in with his older brothers and wouldn’t be able to partake in all of the same activities as them.

A call from artist and fisherman RJ Boyle, changed their lives. RJ wanted to give back to the community of people who do not have the same opportunities and ability that he has. And Tony Davis and his family were the perfect match. RJ wanted to bring the family out for a day on the water, which raised many questions. How would the wheelchair work? Would Josh enjoy it? Would this even be possible?

“I had no idea how the wheelchair would work on a boat, how Josh would do on the water, etc. My other boys and I would fish every chance we had but we always had to leave Josh at home. The trip went great and Josh loved it! He is at total peace and relaxes like no other time when he is out on the water. I felt like my dreams had come true as I was able to share this experience with my son. “Tony recalled.

From there the inspiration to start Mission Fishin’ was born. Since their inception in 2014, the organization has given over 100 families a once in a lifetime opportunity to go cruise on a boat for the day and catch some fish! The experience on the water is a place where all of their worries can go away for a little while and the families and kids are able to relax and have fun.

GATOR ONE GRABS THEIR FIRST WIN AT THE 25TH ANNUAL SALTWATER SLAM

With a fleet of 95 boats, the 25th Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Slam was the post-pandemic tournament anglers have been craving.

Despite all of the “social-distancing” guidelines in place, Bluewater Movements collaborated with the City of Pompano Beach to establish a safe and fun environment for anglers to enjoy themselves in! For the first time in 25 years, the kick-off party was limited to registered anglers only. Although the guest list was limited, these meat-fishing teams reminded us they still know how to have a good time, face mask’s and all! DJ Select hosted the party outside while anglers won fabulous prizes from tournament sponsors on the “Spin-to-Win” wheel.

Blue Moon Fish Company delivered another extravagant food experience and the free drinks were flowing from Landshark Lager, Rabble Wine, Tito’s Vodka, Bacardi, and Appleton Rum. The pandemic altered the format of the weigh-in as well, but it didn’t slow down the fishing! With Captain Ryan McBride behind the wheel, Lonnie Bergeron and his Mercury powered Gator One won their first ever tournament in the PBSC series, weighing in a total of 185.3 pounds for a grand total $27,059 in earnings.

On top of winning 1st place team and $10,000, they caught the heaviest Cobia (30 lbs.), and 2nd heaviest Kingfish (34.9 lbs.), and John Bassett Jr. was the Top Male angler catching 105.1 lbs. of fish himself! Not far behind, in 2nd place was Captain/Owner Mark Lamb and his notoriously consistent team Doing It All/Hardway with a total of 164.4 lbs. of fish to secure 2nd place and $9,850 in prize money. Off the Wall claimed 3rd place with a total of 159.4 lbs. that was good for $3,620 and teammates Jimmy and Buddy Tight won the top family award with a combined weight of 99.8 pounds.

Boat after boat, the fish bags could barely zipper shut for the Landshark Lager sponsored weigh-in at Sands Harbor Resort. The Heaviest Fish of the tournament was a 49.1-pound Wahoo caught by Kyle Senkowicz from team Hot Suppah who weighed a total of 132.6 lbs and took home the 2nd largest check of the tournament for a total of $18,610! Captain Nick Carullo and his Lenny’s Luck fishing team cashed in big on their 26’ SeaVee with 92.9 pounds to win first place in the small boat division, plus they had the heaviest kingfish of the tournament (36.7 lbs.) that won them several other categories for a total of $11,135 in tournament winnings!

The 25th Annual Saltwater Slam delivered a purse of more than $200,000 including an $80,280 winner-take-all “Pick 3” (the target species pulled during the random drawing were tuna, dolphin, and cobia) that was not fulfilled. The highly anticipated “KDW Jackpot” (catch a weighable Kingfish, Dolphin, Wahoo) rolled over as well, leaving both calcuttas up for grabs heading into the final leg of the series in August.

REEL SYNERGY OWNED THE SHOWDOWN AND LIVING WATER/MAKING TIME CAPTURED THE SHOWDOWN CROWN!

The 22nd annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown was an unforgettable tournament to end the meat-fishing season. A total of 78 boats showed up at the Showdown and competed not only for the Champions title of leg 3, but also to determine the overall winner for Showdown Crown series Champions. The calcutta payouts rolled over to the largest purse in PBSC history with the “KDW” calcutta sitting at $75,060 and the “Pick 3” at $100,080! A substantial $256,718 In total was up for grabs for the top teams in the Saltwater Showdown.

The fishing conditions were perfect, and the competition was neck-andneck, but it was Captain/Owner Ryan Davis and his Mercury powered team, Reel Synergy who took home the gold at the Saltwater Showdown with a total of 135.6 lbs. weighed, winning 1st place Overall and 7 other categories for a grand total of $21,677! SeaVee/Mercury powered Team Living Water/Making Time secured 2nd place with 131.3 lbs which bumped up their series points to earn them the prestigious title of 2020 PBSC Showdown Crown Champions!!

Captain/Owner Mark Miller and his team missed 1st place by 4.3 lbs. but secured 4 categories including 2nd place wahoo (36 lbs.) for a grand total of $10,280.

Not far behind was the 5x previous PBSC champions. Captain/Owner Art Sapp and his SeaVee/Mercury powered team Native Son took home 3rd place, with 115.3 lbs., winning 8 categories in all including heaviest kingfish (43.7 lbs), and 1st place in the Bluewater Challenge. With a 3rd place finish in the Showdown, they jumped up to 2nd place in the Crown standings as well (1 point behind “Living Water/Making Time”) and their winnings totaled $21,603!

In a year full of new changes, the Showdown had a new weigh-in location at Sullivan Park in Deerfield Beach! Unfortunately, the kick-off party and awards had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 county regulations, however, teams were still excited to be able to get out on the water and fish! The gorgeous new waterfront park features several finger docks for multiple boats to tie up and a spacious property that allowed teams to stay socially distanced during the weight-in.

Captain Christian Rec and his team The Program won the SIMRAD sponsored small boat division with a total weight of 74.5 lbs. They also came out on top as the top small boat of the series to earn a bonus $1,000 and a multifunction unit from SIMRAD. Top Non-Pro team went to Finsanity II. Comprised of mostly junior anglers, they finished the season strong, weighing a total of 77.6 lbs. at the Showdown and winning $3,673. Junior Angler, James DeMarco of team Native Son” claimed the Junior Master Angler title of the series with a total of 109.3 lbs. weighed during the 3-tournaments.

Despite the onset of a pandemic only 2 months prior to the start of the 2020 Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, we were still able to persevere and bring our fishing community together for three great PBSC tournaments over the summer. Thank you to all who participated! 2020 will definitely be a season we will never forget.
