INSTINCT ™ QUEST ™
On the morning of the Shootout the seas were flat calm so we started out slow trolling. For the first 2 hours the king bite was wide open. In the first hour we boated an upper 30 pound king and multiple other kings in the mid to upper 20s. Due to the bite being so good we knew our 4 kings were going to all have to be in the mid to upper 30s if we wanted to place. We ended up sneaking another upper 30s king past the sharks. Shortly a er the wind picked up we put up the kite spread. Almost immediately, star player Eric got sniffed on the Triple J sardine and landed a low 40s king. We immediately switched over to tuna fishing. A er about an hour of tuna fishing we quickly realized the tunas did not want to show face where they had been during pre-fishing. We made a move and struggled to get a bite. We ended up picking away at 2 nice tunas in the upper 20-pound range and 2 more in the teens weighing a 223.7 pound bag good enough for 4th place.
Leading up to the Slam we were faced with many obstacles. We had electrical issues on the boat and someone stole all of our sardines from our bait pen the day before the tournament. I was away for work in the Bahamas and the guys were going to fish the boat without me. The real mvp is my dad for ge ing the boat in operational condition to allow the guys to catch more bait and fish the tournament while I was away. They started the day off strong catching a good king bag with fish in the upper teens and mid 20s. A er the morning was over they spent a majority of the day weaving through the bonitos trying to find the tunas. While tuna fishing out in the deep they caught an upper 20s king which was a huge upgrade. About a half hour before lines out they caught a double header of tunas which was huge. The guys weighed a 132.1 pound bag good enough for 5th place.
Going into the Showdown we knew the only way we were going to have a shot at winning the series was by finishing out on top. Every star in the universe lined up for us that day. The king bite was solid in the morning but all smaller fish in the 10-15 pound range. The fish were only eating speedos for us and due to a major die off in the bait pen the night before, we didn’t have as many as we wanted. About a half hour into fishing we caught a 37.5 pound king on the last speedo we had in the boat. All though we ran out of speedos we kept our heads high and kept trucking. About an hour later we had what was the most majestic kite bite wev ever seen. All of us on the boat saw the fish go fully airborne on the bait and we knew this fish was going to be everything for us. We ran the fish down and got her in the boat shortly after and lost our minds. After catching that fish, we tried to upgrade our 2 smaller kings and get a wahoo bite all day long. We could not upgrade our kings. At about 2pm we had a giant wahoo bite through our leader while slow trolling. That was our shot, and we missed it. We knew we were close to the top of the leaderboard but needed 1 more fish to weigh. After that, even though it wasn’t the right time of year I decided to try for a tuna for the last 2 hours. About 15 minutes before lines out, we got wolf packed by a school of bonitos and sailfish, hooking 8 fish at once. The “bonito” I had on the flatline started fighting differently, pinwheeling down deep, we knew it was her. That was the most heart beating
stressful fight with a fish I’ve ever had. Fortunately, we landed the fish and knew we had a real good shot. We had the biggest king of the tournament, being 48.4 pounds and weighed a 137.5 pound bag which won us 1st place only by 6 ounces which barely pushed us into first to win the series. My team and I are extremely proud and grateful of our accomplishments throughout the season and to be the youngest group of guys to take home the champion rings.

Bigger, with more of everything, the 400Z prioritizes cockpit space with more storage, and more available configurations than ever. The aft cockpit is much bigger and boasts two 100 gallon in-deck fish boxes, two standard corner live wells and a dedicated space for a Seakeeper. Fuel economy is unchanged, yet fuel capacity is up by 18%, as is the nautical range. That leaves only one question, where are you taking your 400Z?

I have been fishing since the inaugural Tackle Depot tournament in 1996. My favorite memory would have to be the year I won the 26’ Robalo in the raffle drawing! Thanks for many good years of fishing.
Frank Langdon – Kat’s Rival
In the early years, we used to fill the living room with bags of magazines that we would sort by zip code ourselves and drive them to the post office for bulk mailing. I still have nightmares about that!
‘Big Rick’ Bunn – The Emcee
While there are many big wins and accolades for the Native Son over the years, including 5 Showdown Crown championships, my favorite part of the experience over the years has been the people I’ve done it with. Having the opportunity to fish together with my father, childhood friend/brother Brandon Lauritano, and OG crew members Jim DeMarco, Jason Dean and Brad Fitzpatrick means more to me than any other check I ever collected fishing them.
Art Sapp – Native Son
I have fond memories of early am checkouts on the Hillsboro Inlet je y with ‘Auntie Faye’ Daunt, Katie Sapp, Tara Dean and occasionally ‘Uncle Dickie’ Daunt. Checking out over 100 boats on a beautiful summer morning was always a pleasure…right until the skies opened up and poured on us and all of our paperwork! And that usually happened at least once a summer!
‘Miss Becky’ Bunn – The T-Shirt Lady
My most vivid memory goes back 30 years for the inaugural Tackle Depot tournament. Lynne and I pulled in to fish the tournament and there was no parking and a line out the front door into the parking lot! Jamie and his dad were inside trying to manage the line and a Styrofoam cooler full of cash. So, Lynne and I offered to help and jumped behind the counter a er we registered. 30 years later I’m still on the commi ee and Lynne is now working for Bluewater Movements!
‘Captain Ron’ Mitchem – Crazy Water
SeaVee Boats has been honored to be a title partner in the PBSC series for the last 25 years. As both a sponsor and participant we have experienced a series that is first in class across the board. We are grateful for all the teams that have become customers and in turn, family over the years. Thank you to all our teams that have racked up countless tournament wins and Showdown Crown rings over the years. Let’s continue to Lead the Way together.
Ariel Pared – SeaVee Boats
I started fishing the tournaments in the late 90’s. I’ve got many great memories but cooking hot dogs at the weigh-ins on the boat with the grill we won in the raffles was a favorite part of the tourneys for my team. I loved the relationships developed over the years with friends who are now family.
The family component in the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit is truly special. I’ve loved seeing Jamie’s parents and other family members working together over the years in a true labor of love. Seeing all the families fishing together and the kids that light up with excitement during the tournaments is what it’s all about. It’s a special community filled with people who genuinely care about each other and the sponsors. Mercury Marine has been proud to be a title partner for over 25 years.
Michelle Kilburn – Mercury Marine
Steve ‘Coach’ Fishman and I fished the inaugural Tackle Depot tournament on his boat Prime Time and had a top finish. From there we became partners in our 31’ SeaVee Makin’ Time that we still own together to this day. There are so many amazing memories fishing as two families together with our kids. A er winning two Showdown Crown rings together over the years with our Living Water/Makin Time crew we brought the old Makin’ Time out of retirement in the 2023 Saltwater Showdown and weighed a 88lb Wahoo!! Lifetime memories Makin’ Time in our favorite tournaments!
Kurtis Schu ler – Makin’ Time
“Anytime you win a Fish Bluewater event it’s truly humbling and satisfying! Without my team, I’m nothing, my sabs are special, and I’m thankful for each event we fish together. With that being said, I’m hungrier than ever to win another!”

“Wow, what a great day! Weather was nice, seas were good. I've been fishing Jamie's tournaments since his first Tackle Depot in 1996. What a great series he's developed and happy to be participating with such great competitors. For this year's Slam, the great team on the Wayt-N-Sea, with AJ, Ethan, Nick, Mike and Roy, had a blast. We landed the big king early in the morning, catching more, but no upgrade. We learned at the scales that we had the Big Fish at 43.7 lbs, finally some podium time a er all these years! Looking forward to the 2025 series”
– Dave Wayt, Wayt-N-Sea
