Scoring System 2022

The Showdown Crown is the most prestigious title in competitive meat fishing. The scoring format assigns a score based on where a team finishes in each tournament.

A linear scoring system emphasizes performance and consistency, the benchmark of a true champion in any sport. And to the victor, goes the spoils, a custom set of Superbowl style championship rings. The scoring format for the series is as follows: 1ST place

Showdown Champions

Tax Relief As we were getting ready for the 2021 Bluewater Movements Summer Series, we were coming off our most consistent summer yet. So with high hopes a team member said, “We could win the rings this year.” Clearly, that was the right mindset; however, Tax Relief’s best finish in a single tournament was 4th back in the 2016 Showdown. In these tournaments, you compete against the best fishing teams and captains in South Florida that are on the water day in and day out.

So, heading into the Shootout last May, I suggested let’s focus on a “tournament win.”

The Shootout morning bite was very slow; we came across a few dolphin which kept our spirits up. But after a few hours, we still had not found a king that would weigh. With time up against us now, we knew we had to make a move. Fish had to be hitting the deck somewhere with a hundred boats fishing. Yet, after switching spots, we still

had not caught a 10 lb. king. By now, it was almost 11am and we were thinking about moving again. Finally, a line went off and we knew this one was a good one. Twenty minutes into the fight, we finally got our first glimpse of the fish and saw it was a big king, but there was a shark right behind it. We quickly dumped the reel in free-spool to let the king outrun the shark. Chasing down the fish, a full team effort put the king on the deck. When the fish hit the deck, we knew we had a chance at the tournament’s biggest fish and potentially the ‘Pick 3’ since we only needed a tuna now. So we picked up again, and headed off to Palm Beach where we knew tunas had been caught earlier in the week. Not more than ten minutes into our first drift, we caught a nice tuna. Then the bite slowed as we watched other boats start to leave the area. We decided to make one last drift before heading south. But, on the Continued on page 10 www.bluewatermovements.com

Showdown Champions next drift, we landed a 25 lb. king. We were staying. Our emotions had completely changed from the morning and fishing was easier now. The next couple drifts during the afternoon produced two more nice kings and a tuna, the bite had turned on. With ten weighable fish in the box we moved south looking for an upgrade in the last couple of hours. At the scales, we thought we had a shot at it all but didn’t realize we had 235 lbs. in the box. With our first win in the books, the mentality of the team changed from we ‘could’ to we ‘can’ win the rings this year.

In the Slam, we missed a few more fish than we would have liked. However with a top ten finish, we were still in the hunt. Now sitting in 2nd overall and only two points behind the top team heading into the final leg, the Showdown. We had never been this close before with a real shot at winning the crown. In August we weighed in 114.3 lbs., four kings and two tunas, but were still one point behind in the crown standings.

Now, our only hope was having a boat weigh in between us, and the top team that had weighed in just below us with 108.8 lbs. As more and more boats weighed in, we still sat one point behind in the Showdown Crown standings. The phone rang and suddenly our emotions changed. The last team to weigh in weighed 0.7 lbs. less than us, putting us into a tie for the Showdown Crown. That was all we needed. We won the Bubba_SummerSeries_Magazine.pdf 1 3/12/2021 4:28:43 PM

tie-breaker by total weight across the three legs with 458.7 lbs. which ended up being a new series record.

Our team’s take away from 2021 is “You’re always just one fish away.” Looking back on our season, the series changing fish was the first kingfish of the season. The 53.8 lbs. kingfish not only was the biggest fish of the Shootout, but gave us the needed weight to win the tie-breaker in the Showdown Crown.

We are so fortunate to have a great team that is passionate about fishing. Billy, Blake, Francis, Jacob, Luke, Mac and Troy thank you for making it happen. Looking forward to this year’s series and the years to come!

FAQ Summer Series Can the captain also be an angler?

Yes. Completion of the captain’s section of the online registration form will qualify him or her as an angler.

How much does it cost to enter each tournament?

Early entry fee for each leg of the series is $475 per boat plus tax. Late entry fee is $575 per boat. Refer to schedule of events for each leg for details on when early entry ends.

Is there a general entry fee for the series?

No. Entry fees only apply to each individual leg of the series.

Are you required to fish all three legs of the series?

No. Teams are not required to fish all three legs to participate in the series. Of course, we would love to see you join us for all three though!

Do I have to pay extra to add additional anglers?

No. This is a boat tournament and we do not charge additional fees for additional anglers. Teams may carry as many anglers as they can safely accommodate on their boat.

Where can I register for the tournaments?

BY MAIL: (for early entry only) Make checks payable to: Bluewater Movements, Inc. PO Box 50114, Lighthouse Point, FL 33074 Upon receipt of the check in the mail, a staff member will contact the captain to complete the registration process.

KICKOFF PARTY: Final registration is available at each kickoff party from 6p-10p at the Pompano Beach Civic Center located at 1801 NE 6th Street, Pompano Beach, 33060.

Can I pay with a check at the kickoff party?

No. Acceptable payment methods at the kickoff party are cash, Mastercard, Visa & AmEx ONLY. No business or personal checks will be accepted at the kickoff party.

What are the eligible species of fish?

Dolphin, Wahoo, Kingfish, Cobia and Blackfin Tuna What is the minimum weight requirement for funfish?

10 pounds How many fish can we weigh?

4 per species and a maximum of 10 fish per boat.

Is there a physical checkout?

No. Each team must video the time, date and their gps coordinates to verify they are in the boundaries prior to fishing.

Is there a physical check-in location?

Yes, Hillsboro Inlet and/or Boca Inlet, depending on event, by 4:30pm.

What if there is a tie?

In the event of a tie score the prize money will be split between the two categories. Ties are not broken by time of catch.

Can we use treble hooks?

Yes, treble hooks are permitted.

Is live chumming allowed?

No, however frozen chum and dead bait chum are allowed.

How many lines can we fish?

There is no line limit in the tournaments.

What are the boundaries in the tournaments?

North - 27.05 South - 25.25 East - 79.35 What time are Lines In? 7:30am Is there an official announcement of lines out of the water?

No. Boats that have fish to weigh in must be visually checked in by 4:30 pm. If you are late, you will be unable to weigh your catch.

Can a Peewee angler elect to fish as a junior angler so his/her fish count toward the total weight for the team?

Yes. However, by electing to fish as a Junior Angler, he/she forfeits the right to any Peewee Angler prizes. Also he/she must declare this on the entry form by checking the correct box for ‘Angler Status.’ He/She must also fish according to the rules governing Junior anglers.

Can a Junior angler elect to fish as a male or female angler?

No. Junior anglers must compete within their own division until they reach 16 years of age.

Is there a maximum line test?

There is no limit on line test in the tournaments. Wire lines and braid line are also permitted.

The Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, IGFA, Fish Florida and Fish City Pride are excited to return with our 15th year of fun and educational fishing clinics for youngsters during the kickoff parties for each PBSC tournament. The clinics will be open to 30 children between the ages of 5 and 12. These hands-on learning clinics will cover everything from casting to knot tying, sportsmanship and regulations. The kids will also have the chance to get out for a FREE afternoon of fishing compliments of Fish City Pride drift fishing. Group reservations are not permitted.

Shootout Results 2021 Recap Tax Relief Wins the 23rd Annual Saltwater Shootout, Reel Synergy Claims the Pick 3 and Ice Box Snags the KDW! The 23rd Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Shootout went off without a hitch and awarded a slew of teams a hefty payday!

With 100 boats registered, the Saltwater Shootout lived up to the expectations, and despite rough seas 64 teams jumped on the big stage at Alsdorf Park to showcase their catch at the Bass Pro Shops sponsored weigh in! Alsdorf Park was the new location for the weigh in and teams and spectators alike enjoyed the change of scenery!

The scales got a workout all day and some monster fish were weighed but it was Tax Relief who would take First Place overall weighing in 235.1 lbs of fish including a slob 53.8lb Kingfish which won them First Place in the Big Three, Top King and Holy Mackeral Calcutta’s to earn them the title of Saltwater Shootout Champions and a $21,912 payday!

Finishing in Second Place Captain Alex Burgess’ team weighed in 189.3lbs of fish, taking First Place in the Bluewater Bonanza (total aggregate weight), First Place in Ante Up, Third Heaviest Cobia and winning the Charity Calcutta for a grand total of $14,185!

The highly anticipated KDW jackpot which rolled over from last season was a whopping $88,920 and while there were other kings, dolphin and wahoo’s weighed on the big stage, it would be Ice Box with the winning trio! The team weighed in 60.3 lb of fish to win the KDW! In addition to winning the KDW, they also finished in Third Place (188.5lb), Second Place Wahoo (14.2), Second Place Bluewater Bonanza and Second Place Ante Up for a grand total of $96,964 which was the second highest check of the tournament!

Reel Synergy was the highest earning team and set a new record for the PBSC as the largest payout for a single team!

Captain Chip Sheehan put his team on the fish, and big ones at that weighing in 175.7 lb of fish! Finishing in Fifth Place overall, Second Heaviest Kingfish (51.7), Third Place in the Bluewater Bonanza, Third Place in the Big Three, Second Place in Holy Mackerel, and last but certainly not least the Pick 3 Winners for a total pay out of $122,921!

Slam Results 2021 Recap Young Guns Wins the 26th Annual Saltwater Slam!

72 boats were rigged up and ready to roll for the 2021 Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Slam with all eyes on the coveted Showdown Crown title.

With COVID-19 regulations and restrictions lifted, the festivities for the Slam kickoff party started to look more like they did before the pandemic and it was easy to see that anglers and fans were excited to be back! The Slam kicked off at the Pompano Beach Civic Center with amazing food by Fort Lauderdale’s own Blue Moon Fish Company and bar hospitality by the South Florida Hooters girls. One of the most notable takeaways from the kick off party was its focus on charity. A ‘Darts for Dollar’s’ fundraiser was in play for tournament charity Mission Fishin’ and the anglers were all in all night long! The unique spin on the traditional carnival balloon game was a hit with the anglers. Their contributions went directly to Mission Fishin’ while anglers had an opportunity to win some really cool prizes from Bass Pro Shops, Bubba Blade, E-Sea-Rider and Clarion Marine just to name a few. The fundraiser raised over $1,800 for Mission Fishin’.

When the last fish hit the scales on tournament day, only 3 pounds separated the top 3 overall teams and it would be team Young Guns that came out on top. Their total weight of 158.5lbs would hold on to secure them the title of Saltwater Slam Champions 2021! The Mercury Pro Staff squad started their morning off Jupiter and were able to find their kings, but knew they needed more. So they raced south to the opposite end of the boundary and struck gold with four blackfin tuna to seal the deal and celebrate with a champagne shower on the stage at Sullivan Park with a hefty payday of $18,460!

Finishing in second place was three time Showdown Crown Champs, Blue Moon. They weighed in a total of 157.2lbs of fish and snagged a $8,806 payday! However, the biggest payout of the tournament went to team Gator One who finished in third place overall weighing a total of 155lbs of fish, including the Top Kingfish (38.5) and Bluewater Challenge, third place in the Bluewater Bonanza, first place in the Big Three, and first place in Holy Mackerel for a grand total of $19,749!

Showdown Results 2021 Recap

SeaVee Boats Win Top Small Boat of the PBSC Circuit & Claim Third Straight Showdown Crown Title!

The third and final leg of the Mercury/SeaVee sponsored Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit crowned two champions. The tournament which was originally scheduled for August 14th was postponed due to the impending tropical storm. So on August 22nd, 2021 55 boats rounded out the fleet for the last leg of the summer series with a total purse of $96,682 up for grabs.

Weighing in 124.8 lbs of fish including a first place tuna (23.6) and tying for second place tuna (20.2) was enough for team Living Water/Makin’ Time to get ahead of the pack and finish in first place overall and earn the title of Saltwater Showdown Champions!

Tax Relief won the first leg of the 2021 PBSC, the Shootout in May and were sitting in second place (52 points) for the Showdown Crown going into the Showdown. Seapremacy was in first place with 54 points for the Showdown Crown.

Seapremacy brought 108.8 lbs of fish to the scales and Tax Relief weighed 114.3lbs, bringing each team’s total points for the series to 81. For just the second time in the history of the PBSC there was a tie! The tie breaker was determined by total weight for the season. Fishing on board their 39’ Contender, Seapremacy had a total of 420.4 pounds for the season while Tax Relief posted 458.7 pounds on their 34’ SeaVee to claim their first ever Showdown Crown Champions title!! In addition to taking home the coveted crown title, they finished in second place overall, second place in the Bluewater Bonanza, second place in Ante Up for a grand total of $9,344.

Lenny’s Luck swept the Small Boat category on their 26’ SeaVee, finishing in first place overall for the series, first place Small Boat Bonanza and Division, ninth place overall and Heaviest Wahoo for a grand total of $4,673.

Congratulations to Cheyenne Considine for claiming the Top Female Angler title on board Miss Michelle with 62.7 points.

Brother’s Chris Miller and Brian Miller weighed 62.7 pounds to earn the Top Family trophy. In the Pee Wee division, Gracie Johnston earned the Top Pee Wee title with 68.9 pounds on Finsanity II. James Demarco caught one of the heaviest kingfish of the tournament at 38 pounds to earn him the Top Junior Angler title on board Native Son. Wyatt Bergeron had the standout Junior Angler season weighing a total of 73.6 pounds to claim the Junior Master Angler of the series title.
