Introducing the all new 400Z. The evolution of a legend - the 390 series becomes the all new 400Z. Bigger, with more of everything, the 400Z prioritizes cockpit space with more storage, and more available configurations than ever. The console is wide enough for 24” displays and features a raised helm pod for better ergonomics. There’s an optional second row of seating. The aft cockpit is much bigger and boasts two 100 gallon in-deck fish boxes, two standard corner live wells and a dedicated space for a Seakeeper. Fuel economy is unchanged, yet fuel capacity is up by 18%, as is the nautical range. That leaves only one question, where are you taking your 400Z?

Scoring System

The Showdown Crown is the most prestigious title in competitive meat fishing. The scoring format assigns a score based on where a team finishes in each tournament. The scoring format for the series is as follows:

Showdown crown champions

LEG 1: Saltwater Shootout

Seapremacy

Big, fancy boats don’t catch fish. Preparation and hard work catch fish. No one knows that fact better than Alex Burgess, captain of team Seapremacy and one of the most decorated fishermen in PBSC history. With two Showdown Crown rings to his name, he and his team are a threat to win on any given tournament day. Fishing on his old school Mercury powered 29’ SeaVee, Burgess and his team recorded 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishes in the 2023 PBSC summer series edging out Slob City, 2022 champions by 1 point for the prestigious Showdown Crown rings and title of meatfish world champions! This is their story. In the Saltwater Shootout, the seas were a little choppy with an east wind, so we decided to put out the kites instead of the downriggers. The first drift got o to a fast start catching a king over 20 and losing a couple in the 30 pound range. Not a good start but we were in the right spot. On our second drift, we had a 40 air out on the long bait and cut us o above the wire. Then we hooked another 40 and lost it to another king eating the lead - over 100lbs of kings lost in the first 30 minutes! We continued to pick away at some smaller kings on the flat lines and caught a weigher mahi too. When the king bite slowed down, we decided to shift our game plan to targeting the tunas.

The first drift for tunas was pretty uneventful, only catching a small dolphin. Next drift we saw a frigate outside of us when Finsanity ran underneath it and sent the frigate our way (Thanks Jonah!). Under the frigate was a school of weigher mahi. It was insanity for about 15 minutes of 10 to 15 pound fish. When we thought it was over Jeremy

yells “is anyone going to come ga this one?” He had the biggest one of the school on and somehow nobody knew he was hooked up (classic Jeremy).

The next drift was the start of the best tuna bite any of us have seen. Unfortunately, the sharks were so bad we had singles and doubles sharked. At one point, we had 5 on at once and every one of them got sharked. We reset a second time and the sharks must have been full because we got a few to the boat and continued to pick o weighers

into the afternoon. We went back to kingfishing but we were not able to upgrade, however, we were pumped to weigh our 10 fish limit with 4 dolphin, 4 tuna, and 2 kings for 181.8lbs. good enough for 3rd place.

LEG 2: Saltwater Slam

We started the second leg of the series fishing north of the fleet by ourselves. The seas were flat but with just enough wind to put the kites up. On the first spread out we caught a 20lb king and missed another 20 pounder on the kite but thankfully our teammate Kevin reacted fast and pitched a bait to it and soon after we had it in the boat. We had 3 over 20 but knew we needed one more. Not long after the kite bait got boiled on again and it turned out to be another weigher in the teens. It was 9:30 and time to go find some tunas. We ran south to where we heard there were tunas and caught a small one on the first drift. On the second drift we caught a weigher on the kite and 3 more on the flat lines. We also got covered up with dolphin again but none were over 10lbs. With 4 good tunas we decided to go try and get a wahoo and upgrade our kings after hearing about Doing It All/Hardway’s big wahoo earlier that afternoon. We didn’t have any luck upgrading but still weighed 4 tunas and 4 kings for 167.4lbs that was good enough for 4th place.

with very little wind. The fishing started out much slower than it had been pre-fishing the day before. We started catching smaller ones and by mid-morning the bite got much better. We hooked a good one but lost it again to a shark. We only got the head back, but it was definitely a fish that would have scored in the high forties.

LEG 3: Saltwater Showdown

With a 3rd and 4th place finish in the first two legs of the series, we knew we had a real shot at the Showdown Crown title if we could finish strong in the Showdown. To start the day, conditions were flat

We got the spread back out and hooked another king right away and got skied on by another one over 30 on the shotgun bait. We had 4 weighers but didn’t have the weight we felt we needed to go looking for the tunas. We needed one more good weigher. We continued to stick it out, but it was all 12 to 13lb fish. We left and found another good kingfish bite and watched some good ones being caught all around us. It was getting late in the day. We knew we needed another good bite. With about an hour left the shotgun bait started to get nervous and we got the bite we were looking for. The fish made a good run like the big ones typically do. We ga ed it but it wasn’t as big as we were hoping, somewhere in the low thirties. The way the day played out, we never had the time to go looking for the tunas. We were hearing what all the other teams had and knew it was going to be extremely tight for the Crown title. We weighed 109.3 pounds finishing in 5th place overall in the Showdown. The collective 3rd, 4th and 5th place finished landed us with a series score of 81 points. We edged out the Slob City team by one point and won the Crown! What a feeling to work hard for something and see that hard work culminate with a massive victory on one of the largest stages in meatfishing anywhere!

Young Guns Wins The 25th Annual Mercury/Seavee Pompano Beach Saltwater Shootout

The 25th Annual Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Shootout kicked o with a fresh look and a field of 64 teams vying for their share of the $171,920 cash purse and prizes. The event featured a record number of sponsors and appearances by BoatList.Auction, Hooker Electric, PELAGIC, SIMRAD, Seaward Systems, Eddie Forbes Art, Bonefish Macs, and more. Outside, the Over/Under Game built by Taylor Builders raised over $2,500 for charitable partner Mission Fishin’.

The newly renovated Cove Waterfront Restaurant & Tiki Bar served as the Weigh-in HQ for the competing teams. Anglers were treated to food and drinks courtesy of Jersey Mikes, Landshark Lager, and Islamorada Beverages, while onlookers were entertained by all the teams rafting up to see the big fish hit the scales on the BoatList.auction sponsored stage.

On tournament day, a total of 227 fish were weighed for a hefty haul of 4,435.2 lbs, and Mercury Marine Powered teams dominated the leaderboard, sweeping 1st through 5th place.

In reverse order, coming in 5th place, team Gator One landed a cash prize of $1,200 after weighing in four kings and four tuna totaling 89.6 lbs and 74.9 lbs, respectively.

Next up in 4th place, tournament sponsor Captain Eric Neidorf’s How Ya Reelin’ Fishing & Tackle team, Caught Slippin’ reeled in four kings and four tuna weighing a total of 165.1 lbs, taking home $2,805 including a 3rd place finish in the Bluewater Bonanza Calcutta.

In 3rd place, team Seapremacy reeled in four Mahi, four Tuna, and two Kings reaching the tournament limit of 10 fish per boat. They had a combined weight of 181.8 lbs, which earned them a grand total of $11,063 across multiple categories, including 1st place in the Show me the Mahi Division, the Midrange Bonanza Calcutta, and Charity Calcutta on their 29’ SeaVee.

In 2nd place, team O The Wall took home the biggest payout of the weekend, cashing in on $20,368 after catching a total of 187.7 lbs of fish, including a 33.3 lb tuna caught by angler Evan Bradley which secured their win in the Big Fish Tuna Division and the Bluewater Bonanza, as well as 1st place in the Ante Up calcutta and the new winner take all Fish & Chips calcutta.

The audacious Mercury Marine-powered Team Young Guns, captained by Timmy Maddock, Jr, defied conventional wisdom and shook things up. They took a detour down south, which paid o in a big way. The move positioned PELAGIC Pro Timmy Maddock, the Shootout’s Top Male angler into the sweet spot, reeling in a whopping 122.9 lbs of the team’s grand total of 194.6 lbs, clinching 1st place.

Heading into leg 2 of the PBSC series, the Mercury/Seavee Pompano Beach Saltwater Slam, two giant calcuttas went unclaimed from the Shootout. Both the KDW and Pick 3 jackpots reached near $50,000 each! At a modest fee of only $200 per category, the ROI was o the charts for some of the teams going into the Slam!

“As captain of Doing It All Hardway, winning the Saltwater Slam for the second consecutive year is a testament to my crew’s unwavering commitment, teamwork, and the passion that we all share for the sport and winning. We’ve been challenged in so many ways on and o the water but through it all we’ve been able to navigate the unpredictable waters that life throws at us at times. These tournaments are never easy to win so we never take these for granted. I love my team and the camaraderie that we share. We’ve been together for a few years now which proves that consistency and dedication breed success in the face of any challenge.”

We want to thank our sponsors Contender Boats and Yamaha for the continued support along with a big shout out to the entire Bluewater Movements sta ”.

It is truly an honor to be the top team in the 2023 Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown. In addition, to weigh one of the heaviest fish in the history of the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit was truly a blessing!

Even though we came up about 1 1/2 pounds short of capturing the KDW it was a day we will always remember!

We want to thank all our guys for the hard work they put in leading up to and including tournament day. And of course, we want to thank Jamie Bunn and his team at Bluewater Movements for putting on such great tournaments year after year.
