It all started with a conversation between Jamie Bunn, Bluewater Movements Founder and Tournament Director, and Captain Chip Sheehan of team Reel Synergy and Chips Ahoy Charters. Chip mentioned a tournament he fished

in the northeast that allowed teams to choose their days of fishing over an expanded time period. He said “How cool it would be to implement a similar concept in a sailfish tournament that gave teams the ability to control their own destiny - no set tournament days, a fish where you want, when you want format with broad appeal to teams up and down the east coast of Florida”. From there the concept of the all new Florida Sailfish Cup was born.

“Inevitably, every sailfish season, there are banner fishing days that never land on tournament days, ‘’ said Tournament Director, Jamie Bunn. With the unique format of the Florida Sailfish Cup, those days are over. Every day is a tournament day. When the bite heats up in their area, teams will have the opportunity to capitalize on a hot bite and record it on their quest to win the Florida Sailfish Cup,” said Bunn.

Every tournament fisherman dreams of being able to pick when and where they want to fish and now they can. Bluewater Movements is proud to announce the addition of the 7th tournament in their line up, the Florida Sailfish Cup. The new tournament will span the entire east coast of Florida, from Fernandina Beach to Key West from November 1st to May 31st each year. Eligible species are Sailfish, White Marlin & Blue Marlin. Teams have the opportunity to fish in four different zones - North, Central, South & the Florida Keys. And whether they choose to fish in their backyard or explore different waters; the choice is entirely theirs. Each release will be scored to the zone where it occurs.

“The amount of time and money you invest in sailfish tournaments between gas, bait and paying your crew sometimes the return on investment isn’t there. But with a format like the Florida Sailfish cup you have the perfect opportunity to make your investment worthwhile.” remarked Captain Chip Sheehan. “ The Florida Sailfish Cup is the perfect format for competition.

You get to pick your own days and go out when the bite is hot.

The competition in Sailfish tournaments is much higher and now with the Florida Cup we get to truly see who is the best of the best!” he added.

There are several unique aspects to the Florida Sailfish Cup, but the most notable is the fact that teams will decide their five fishing days during the tournament with an added bonus that enables them to purchase a sixth mulligan day prior to the start of the tournament to replace their lowest scoring day of the season.

The projected purse of the Florida Sailfish Cup is one million dollars, with ample opportunities for teams to rake in the dough. The top three overall finishers for the tournament will receive a payout of $25,000 for first place, $15,000 for second and $10,000 for third. $10,000 is up for grabs to the top team in each respective zone, and each zone will have their own set of calcuttas and dailies to further increase teams chances of winning money! TEA M SHOW TIME/R EMIX W INS THE 9TH ANNUAL OPER ATION SAILFISH The 2021 Quest For The Crest Sailfish Series kicked off this year’s events with the first leg of the series, Operation Sailfish from January 13-17th at the legendary Sailfish Marina in Singer Island, Florida.

47 boats participated in the tournament for a chance to return home with the champion dog tags and a piece of the $533,000 purse.

In a tournament that proved to be wide open, it was anyone’s game but team Showtime/Remix reigned supreme and their 8 sail releases was enough for them to take home the champion dog tags as well as a hefty $67,500 check! Angler Frankie Villasante was the Top Angler with 5 releases for his team.

It was a back and forth battle as team Showtime/Remix was sitting atop the standings, Team HMY was not too far behind and the two squads shifted between first and second place often throughout the weekend. Team HMY had a monster first day of the tournament releasing 6 sails which put them right on the money to take home first place in the Day 1 Tier 1 and Tier 2 Dailies for a grand total of $53,100! Their earnings didn’t stop there, they snagged Late Bite Friday, Heaviest Dolphin and ultimately finished Second Place Leaderboard and Overall in the tournament increasing their total winnings to $75,360 for the tournament!

Goin’ Raptor finished in Third Place Overall and took home a nice check worth $11,340. The three teams, Showtime/Remix, Team HMY

& Goin’ Raptor all had 8 total sail releases but the timing of each release was what ultimately determined their top 3 finishes.

Reel Synergy opened up Saturday morning strong by hooking up a quad of sails to win the Early Bite Saturday. They erased a large deficit from Day 1 and ultimately finished 5th Place Overall. Their strong showing on Day 2 was enough to claim First Place in the Day 2 Tier 1 and Tier 2 Dailies and Second Place in The Big Easy for a grand total of $85,260 in winnings.

Despite their outstanding performances on the water, it was Fish On in Fourth Place who walked away with the biggest check of Operation Sailfish. They broke the bank finishing 4th place Overall with 6 sail releases, First Place Charity calcutta and First Place in The Big Easy and taking the High Rollers Club for a massive cash out of $102,715!

Bryce Statham and team Blue Moon did what they do best and put on a clinic in the Meatfish Category. Blue Moon swept the Big Three taking First, Second and Third place. They also claimed the First Place spot in the Meatfish Aggregate, First place in the Grand Daddy category, Tied for 1st Place in the Dynamite Daily Day 1 and finished on top for Day 2 and last but not least won the Big Fish Bonanza and Heaviest King (38.5 lbs) for a grand total of $55,250 just in meatfish!

2021 Highlights

NATIV E SON W INS 18TH ANNUAL SAILFISH CHALLENGE AND TAK ES HOME A R ECORD BR EAKING PAYOUT OF $255,340!

The second leg of the Quest for the Crest did not disappoint, with 193 sailfish releases total for the tournament across a 64 boat fleet. The tournament kicked off with the annual Captain’s Meeting/ Kick Off Party hosted by Galuppi’s in Pompano Beach and concluded with an awards ceremony at Blue Moon Fish Co in Fort Lauderdale.

The three inlet format allowed boats to fish in a wider boundary which worked well for Weez In The Keys. They fished south towards Miami in their native waters and released 6 sails which was enough to secure them First Place on Friday and take home the Tier 1 & 2 Dailies for a $62,235 payday! Weez ultimately finished Second Place Overall and won the Charity Calcutta, which supported the ongoing Bahama’s relief effort; for a grand total of $130,995!

However, it was Native Son who hooked up to a last minute double just shy of 4pm on Saturday, which sent Art Sapp & his crew over the top and claimed the title of Sailfish Challenge Champions 2021! Native Son’s 13 sail releases earned them a nice chunk of change and the title of highest earnings ever for a First Place team in the Sailfish Challenge, taking home a check worth $255,340!

On Friday, Native Son fished on their 39’Seavee and switched it up

on Saturday to a sportfish due to the change in weather. The debate on which boat is better, obviously comes down to personal preference but Native Son showed that skill is what earns you a spot in the victory circle and puts you on the fish!

The Edge had themselves a weekend, finishing in Third Place overall with 8 sail releases. The team out of Texas had a Day 2 surge which helped them move into the top 3 overall and claim the Early Bite Saturday, for a total of $29,720!

Although Sailfish Challenge is clearly a Sailfish Tournament, there are ample opportunities to bring home some dough through the meatfish calcuttas! It was clear at Operation Sailfish, when Bryce Statham and Blue Moon swept the meatfish categories and went home with a hefty check of more than $55k. It was obvious that other teams took note of this during the Quest’s second leg.

Digger Rich set the precedent on Friday weighing 126lb of meatfish which was enough for them to take the top spot in the Meatfish Aggregate Calcutta and win $3,500! Miss Michelle finished in Second Place in the Meatfish Aggregate weighing 104lbs of fish, First Place in the Big Fish Bonanza, First Place in the Big Three, Second Place Dynamite Daily, Day 1 and First Place Dynamite Daily Day 2 for a grand total of $49,475!

BAR SOUTH & SHOWTIME WIN THEIR SECOND BURGUNDY JACKETS, PRICELESS W INS FINAL SAIL Final Sail 2021 returned to the docks of Miami Beach Marina and the tournament certainly lived up to the hype. A total of 402 releases across a 41 boat fleet, proved the bite to be red hot and the competition to be high.

Two teams would prevail and emerge as champions. Bar South released 3 sailfish on Day 1, but a surge on Day 2 with 11 releases sent them over the top and secured them 1st Place Quest for the Crest 2020 and that second jacket they had been eyeing for over a year. Captain Raul Gonzales was named Top Captain of the 2020 series as well.

Showtime also had a comeback of their own. Captain Nick Carullo and his squad finished in 13th place on Day 1, which only increased the lead that Native Son held on them heading into Final Sail. Their chances of winning their second jacket seemed to be far from their reach. But the bite was even hotter on Saturday and Showtime released 15 sailfish for a grand total of 21 releases that catapulted them into a second place finish in Final Sail. Their championship finish was enough to overcome Native Son and finish 1st Place in the Quest for the Crest 2021 and win their second burgundy jacket together with a $115,550 payout!

Priceless was hot out of the gate releasing 11 sailfish on Day 1 and doing even better on Day 2 with 15 releases for a grand total of 26 releases that set a new record for most releases! As the Top Team

overall, Priceless walked away from Miami with quite the bragging rights! Taking home First Place in the Day 1 Tier 1 and Tier 2 Dailies, 1st Place Leadersboard, First Place Team, 1st Place High Roller’s Club, 1st Place Big Easy, and finishing in Second Place Day 2 Tier 1 and Tier 2 Dailies for an overall pay out of $185,750!

Native Son fell just short of winning the 2021 Quest Series by 6 points, but they did not go home empty handed. Art Sapp and his crew hit the numbers right on the head to move forward in all four rounds of the Release Roundup to take home the $107,100 jackpot!

They also weighed in the Heaviest Cobia, 2nd Place in the Big Three, 3rd Place Quest Series TNT 2020 and 2nd Place Quest Series TNT 2021 for a total payout of $128,215!

There was also money to be had in the meatfish calcutta’s, and team Fish On took note of that. They weighed in two big fish; a 45.3lb Wahoo and 25.5lb Dolphin to take home The Grand Daddy, Big Fish Bonanza and top spot in the Big Three for a total of $27,730 in meatfish money! Salty Dawgs weighed in 104.3 lbs of fish to finish in First Place in the Meatfish Aggregate to win $3,500!
