21 Well-Being Tips for 2021!!! We are just starting the second half of 2021…no better time than now to hit the reset button and start those fitness goals that you haven’t thought about since New Year’s Day. Improving your health and well-being doesn’t need to be complicated. In fact, great accomplishments are the sum of small steps! Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning. Schedule a preventive care exam such as an annual physical or well-woman exam. Each day, eat one more serving of a fruit or vegetable than you normally would. Add 10 minutes of exercise to your day. Avoid slouching! Keep your back straight, shoulders back and head up. Prepare one healthy vegetarian recipe for dinner every week. Find an activity or hobby that helps boost your mood. Spend at least 10 minutes on stress-relieving activity. Aim to go to bed at a time that allows you to sleep for 8 hours five days per week. Try a new exercise. Mind your manners by saying “please” and “thank you.” Use a fitness device, app, or pedometer to see to track your activity. At each meal fill half your plate with fruits and veggies, a quarter whole grains and a quarter protein. Include three days of resistance or strength-building exercises each week. Write down three things you are grateful for every day. Try a new whole grain like quinoa, bulgur, amaranth, millet, sorghum, teff or buckwheat. Get out into nature at least one day per week. Designate three evenings each week to be screen-free time. Every time you put yourself down, compliment yourself twice immediately after. Do some jumping jacks before starting your favorite TV show. Prevent costly voids in leadership by planning for successors well in advance of the obvious need. Queens are replaced in one of two ways - naturally from the inside through a process called “supercedure” or artificially from the outside. When it occurs from the outside, the beekeeper introduces a new queen in a process known as “re-queening.” Therefore, either an insider or an outsider can fill the most important position in the hive.
MORE POLLEN If the honeybee teaches us anything, it is that organizations cannot survive without a leader, and therefore, the colony prevents costly voids in leadership by planning for successors in advance of the obvious need. Colonies die without their top bee; organizations become pathological sans leadership. Although this lesson may appear to pertain to the executive ranks, the replacement of managers and key employees is an issue throughout organizations. If you lose a manager who is integral to operations, the organization will feel the effects if the position remains vacant. Filling highly skilled jobs requires as much thought and preparation as replenishing executive openings. To ensure that a replacement is ready, managers should increasingly expose internal candidates to the core duties of their jobs, so possible successors are somewhat practiced should they be called upon. Planning for one’s own succession is not an easy thing to do. In fact, many managers resist giving direct reports too much entry to their work, fearing that the access will lead to the mangers demise. This, however, dampens the overall level of expertise with the organization. A confident leader who progressively develops those beneath her will ensure her team’s continued success and her own advancement.

There was nothing especially eventful like the time they had to rush David’s brother-in-law to emergency. No, fortunately this was just a calm, relaxing 4th. Below are some conversations and events that may or may not have happened at the gathering I was at… Wanna be included neighbor: Did you try my beans? I made ‘em. They have beans, pork, jalapeños… They’re good but they’re hot! Try em… Get you a big bowl! They gave me gas though… Great Aunt So-n-So: Oh, they did a good job with this place, considering how bad it was. You know he’s not this talented, they must have had this done. I personally wouldn’t have picked THIS color! Second Great Aunt So-n-So: His abilities??? What abilities? All he does is drink! Oh yeah, they definitely hired this out.
Overheard: NO Brenda!!! HE CAN’T HAVE A BAG OF SKITTLES; HE JUST HAD A DR. PEPPER!!! – YOU KNOW HOW HE GETS. OK fine… you get to take him home! No! I mean it Brenda! There’s always a youngster in the bunch that everyone chases, and with most families, that youngster grows up and out of it, but there’s always a new batch – God willing! In the food line behind a neighbor: Oh my god, what is that? It looks like pink snot! Is it a drink mix that got put on the vegetable table? Oh, that looks good. She makes this every year and I can’t get enough of it! I’m on a diet, but what the heck! Overheard as a guest walked outside with a full plate of food: They took our seats! We’ve been sitting there this whole time! Who are they anyway? I guess I’ll go eat by the trash can. Overheard walking out by the lake: (Drunk Guy #1) Oh yeah, I used to lay on these hammocks as a kid. What’s that? … Sure, they’re still good! Drunk guy #2: I’ll bet you a beer you won’t lay in that hammock! DG#1: You best go get that beer then! DG#2: I’ll go get a beer, but when you fall, I’m going to drink it and laugh at you! DG#1: Deal! Five seconds later… Observer #3 is spitting beer thru his nose because the hammock was indeed rotted and DG#1 went straight thru to the ground at an astounding 33 feet per second/ per second! Wanna be included neighbor: You try my beans? I made ‘em. They have beans, pork, and … Overheard elsewhere: Naw, ain’t getting in no water! I had a bad experience with a shark one time! Overheard out on the water: Honey, will you check on the kids and bring me another White Claw? Honey: You’re out!!! We gotta go make a run. Probably gunna get fireworks while we’re out. … I know, I know. I’m not gunna spend too much. Just gunna get some stuff the kids can enjoy! Wife on the water: Ok, since you’re going to the store can you pick up (and proceeds to give him a lengthy verbal list to which he’s extremely irritated now). Oh, and take the kids with you! Not only is Ashu one of HMC’s newest BusyBee’s, he was also recently granted US citizenship, and he his thrilled to call Dallas/Fort Worth his new HOME! Many of us recognize Ahsu as a consultant, that was vital to SAP B1’s launch, and he is excited to be a part of IT team at our DFW offices.

Mid-afternoon on Friday July 9th Rodney with OKC Winn was in desperate need of a part for his customer as a business was down. Unfortunately, NDA was not an option - - Shannon put her superhero cape on and went to work on how to take care of the customer. She reached out to Scott Carder (who was here at the main Beehive) and asked that he take the needed part to Rodney. Rodney met Scott Friday @ 4:30pm and the end user had the needed part by 6:30pm. This month’s “In the Field” is both a product lesson AND a geography lesson. Where did the SandiaGroup get its name? What does VRF mean? Where in the world is FST? Albuquerque is the most populous city in New Mexico and one of the largest in the Southwest United States. It serves as the county seat of Bernalillo County, but not the state capitol – that’s Santa Fe. The city itself is situated in the Middle Rio Grande Valley. The same Rio Grande, that forms Texas’ southern border with Mexico, runs from north to south through the city. Of all the cities in the United States with a population over 500,000 people, Albuquerque is located at the highest elevation of 4,900 feet above sea level. The peaks of the Sandia Mountains located on the east side of the valley rise to over 10,000 feet. Albuquerque annually hosts both the world’s largest hot air balloon festival, the International Balloon Fiesta, and North America’s largest pow wow, the Gathering of Nations. When viewed from the city, the mountains are famous for their bright red hue at sunset. Almost the same color and shape as a watermelon that has been split in half. The romantic explanation is that the mountain range, and the indigenous people that originally inhabited the area, were named Sandia, the Spanish word for “watermelon,” by the first Spanish speakers to explore the area. A more mundane explanation is that the indigenous people cultivated gourds, which were mistaken for watermelons, and that is where the nickname came from. Regardless of the origins of the name, the people of Albuquerque are proud of the world-renowned beauty of their natural surroundings.
Project Chico, the super-secret code name for Albuquerque’s new regional Amazon distribution center, is nearing completion in the desert to the west of town. Upon arrival at ABQ International Sunport, that’s not a typo, it’s officially the Sunport not the Airport, visitors can spot the massive facility 10 miles away, on the western horizon, just to the left of the San Mateo Mountains. After the first day, when my watch congratulated me on tripling my step goal, I looked up the size of the facility. Its footprint is larger than that of our own beloved Cowboy’s AT&T Stadium! Jim Fouts, Hal Haas, and I joined Pat Armstrong who was already on the job. We were there to commission the LG VRF system. Variable Refrigerant Flow HVAC systems are essentially large-scale ductless systems with a massive capacity for heating and cooling. There are 12 total loops on this system featuring 16 condensers and over 180 evaporator heads. As part of the commissioning process, Pat and Jim connected their laptops with specialty software to the outdoor units in order to test the capabilities and record the performance of the systems. Hal and I were tasked with programing each indoor evaporator head, so that when they were finally all connected and the “auto” button was pressed, they could all be run by a single thermostat controller and communicate seamlessly with one another.

PURCHASING MANAGER Hugh M. Cunningham Companies (HMC) has been a huge win for me. I started with the company, in June of 2006, as a floater. Shortly after that I was moved into Team 4 with Little Giant customer service. After that, I was promtoed to Team Lead of Team 8, the HVAGroup, which was a new group for HMC. I was then moved and became the Lead of Team 2 and Team 8. I enjoyed customer service and made several relationships with customers and account managers that I still have today. After years in customer service, Dan Banaszek came to me and asked me if I wanted to do buy sell purchasing. I took the opportunity and have enjoyed it every day since. When I took on the title of Purchasing, Dan Banaszek showed me the way. I handle all of the buy sell lines for all three locations: Dallas/ Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. As the lines and sales grew, we needed to add another person to my group. I wanted someone that understood the products and already understood our system. Ali Banaszek worked in the warehouse for over eight years, knew a lot about the products, and how the system worked in the warehouse. She was ready to make a change and come inside to work with me in purchasing, where she has been for two years now. She has great relationships with the vendors and with the co-workers inside the building. She is always willing to learn and grow and that is what we need in purchasing. Our Customer Service team consists of Lisa Vallorani, Kyra Anderson, and Almendra Perez. These three ladies handle everything that has to do with billing, credits, RMA’s, commissions, and anything else that is thrown their way.

Lisa Vallorani has been with the company for over ten years and has been the rock of the billing department. Lisa knows the ins and outs to everything that needs to be processed and the procedures. She is a strong member of my team. Lisa currently handles the Watts billing, all intercompany billing, credits, RMA’s, and commissions. Lisa is the hardest worker you will ever meet and I am so happy to have her on my team. Almendra Perez has been with the company for a little over a year. She started as the receptionist and has moved her way to billing. She has a big personality and does a great job. Almendra handles all the billing for the buy sell lines in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Almendra has two little boys that are her pride and joy. Kyra Anderson is new to the company and has been a huge win for the billing group. Kyra handles all the Charlotte billing and all our consigned lines. She is newly married and just moved to the area. We are so lucky to have her on our team. Alma Alverez is also new to the team. She is our receptionist. She has great communication skills and is the first friendly voice you hear when you call our company. She is always willing to do what she can to help and has a heart of gold.

Guess Who…It’s basically like “20 Questions” and you, the reader, have to guess who the subject is. Here’s how the process worked. I listed all of the associates on an Excel spreadsheet and then had Excel assign each one a random five-digit number. I excluded myself obviously. Then I asked a volunteer to select a totally random five-digit number and the person whose number matched closest was chosen as the subject.
