BENCH PRESS COMPETITION

We’re extending an invitation to all patrons to unleash their strength and vie for the title of the mightiest bench presser. There will be categories for men and women but no weight class. Each patron is to make sure a staff member verifies the weight benched. The man and woman who bench the most weight will be awarded a prize at the end of the month.

FIVE-MILE CARDIO CHALLENGE

Test your cardio endurance and challenge yourself on our treadmills, spin bikes, ellipticals, and rowers to see how much distance you can accomplish. Staff will need to verify distances for each contestant, and a prize will be given to the contestant with the longest distance on each piece of equipment at the end of the month.

DEADLIFT COMPETITION

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR BIKE 101

July 10 • 5:30-6:30 p.m. Before you hit the trails, come by, and learn what it takes to keep your bike in tip top shape. This course will go over basic maintenance for both road bikes and mountain bikes. Learn how to take care of your bike and help extend its longevity with us. Whether you’re a pro rider or still have your training wheels, there’s something for everyone here.

It is designed for children ages three and older that don’t meet lesson age requirements but have an interest in learning about and spending time with the horses. Class will not be held while summer camps are in session.

RV STORAGE

There are 230 RV storage sites available for rent on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. The cost is $60 per month or $600 per year. Current vehicle registration and insurance is required.

BOAT RENTALS

Be sure to reserve the boat of your choice so you can enjoy your favorite water spots around San Antonio and surrounding areas. Available boats include pontoon boats, ski boats, Jon boats, bay boats and bass boats. Gives us a call to reserve a boat.

RV PARK

The RV Park has 74 full hookup RV pull-through sites with water, sewage and electricity. There are also two shower facilities

and two laundry facilities for the customer’s convenience. All sites are 30/50 amp. Every site has a patio with a picnic table and 69 sites have a grill. There is a maximum stay limit of 30 days and reservations are taken up to 90 days in advance.

The rates are $30 per day, $180 per week and $650 per month. The cost for sponsored visitors is $35 per day. The RV Park Office is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mon.-Fri. and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sat.-Sun. with limited services. The Park Office is closed on holidays. SUMMER CAMP

The Equestrian Center is offering horsemanship camps this summer. Registration for these camps is on-going and a $50 non-refundable deposit is required at time of registration. The camp is for youth ages seven and older and costs $395 per youth. Camp runs MondayFriday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Camps will not be held during the weeks there are federal holidays – only full weeks.

GROOMING WITH GOVIES CLASS

Wednesdays • 10:30 a.m. Grooming class includes learning how to move safely around the horses, grooming techniques, horse anatomy and if time allows a pony/cart ride. The class is approximately 30 minutes long.

The Equestrian Center offers horseback riding lessons for all levels of riders in both Englishand Western-style. Therapeutic riding lessons are also available. Horses, saddles and tack for lessons will be provided if needed. Patrons must be at least seven years old. The price is $60 per hour for a private lesson, $50 for semi-private and $40 for group lessons. Therapeutic lessons are $30 for 30 minutes. Lessons are available most days of the week and in the evenings. Helmets are available if you do not have your own.

TRAIL RIDES

Saturdays and Sundays

Weekend trail rides are available for patrons seven and older for $30. All riders must arrive 30 minutes prior to their appointment time. Adults must accompany children under the age of 13. Riders must be at least 4 feet, 6 inches tall and weigh no more than 200 pounds. Weekday trail rides, group rides, teambuilding rides and pony rides are also available by appointment. 3D ARCHERY SHOOT

The 3D Archery Range consists of a course with 30 life-like animal targets such as bears, black panthers, deer, alligators, etc. The targets are set up between 5 & 55 yards at various distances. Traditional (Long Bows and Recurve Bows) and Compound Bows are allowed but no Crossbows.

Camp Bullis ODR has Recurve Bows available to rent for $20 each. Registration for the Shoot is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and participants may start the course as soon as registered. The cost is $5 for E1 through E4, active-duty or medically retired, $15 for age 13 and older and $5 for youth 12 and younger.

Outdoor Recreation offers an outdoor archery range with targets ranging from 10 to 60 yards at 10-yard intervals. The targets at the range are crossbow rated. A daily pass is $5. The cost for an annual pass is $60 and $75 for a family of two.

Each additional family member is $5. A DoD ID cardholder can sponsor up to two non-DoD ID cardholders for $5 per person. The range at Camp Bullis is 100% ID check.

All guests must report to ODR and present a DoD ID card. Guests must be in the same vehicle as the sponsor.

USS LEXINGTON GUIDED TOUR

July 20 • 6 a.m.

Join us on a special guided tour of the famous USS Lexington aircraft carrier in Corpus Christi! On our “Hard Hat” tour, we will have a guided deep exploration of 15 areas that are not open to the public. The tour will include climbing steep ladders, confined spaces, and dimly lit/dark compartments. The cost of this program is $60. Patrons ages three and older are welcome (minors must be accompanied by an adult or guardian). This program includes roundtrip transportation from Lackland Outdoor Recreation to the USS Lexington, the “Hard Hat” tour and free time to explore. Deadline to sign up is July 13 or when full. Did you know that JBSA Lackland has 100+ acres of walking and running trails that run from JBSA LAK Outdoor Recreation to Gillum Fitness Center and all the way to Stillman Park? Bring the family to enjoy the outdoors in a nature walk. There are plenty of bird species, wildflowers, turtles, and catch & release fishing in Leon Creek. We have even seen deer at Stillman Park. Be sure to consider Eberle and Heritage Parks when planning your next family gathering or office party. Eberle and Heritage Parks must be reserved prior to use. The pavilions at both parks can be rented for $35. At Eberle Park you can also rent the grill and serving house for $20 each and all the facilities for only $50. ANNUAL PASS SAVES YOU MONEY!

Purchase a Joint Base San Antonio Recreation Park @ Canyon Lake annual pass for $100. Buy one and enjoy the lake all year. This pass gets you into the Sunny Side and Hancock Cove sides of the facility. Otherwise, the daily entry fee for the park is $15 per visit, per vehicle. Annual passes include a vehicle and boat/trailer pass and are valid for one year from date of issue and includes the primary

JBSA TEEN MUSIC CAMP

July 21-23

Teens, ages 13-18, write, perform music, beats and poetry during camp. A faculty of top music professionals teach and inspire 60-75 young people with courses in songwriting, creative writing, music foundation and performance skills. They will also help campers realize and find their individual voices. Activities include daily workshops, nightly open mics with the group, individual performances and a canoe trip on the Guadalupe River. The cost for the camp is $175 per youth. Bring in your personal gear or use ours to participate in basketball with a two-round format. Round one is gaming basketball. Round two is a pick-up game of three-onthree half-court basketball. This event is for ages 9-18 and is free. Parents are welcome and we may also bring out some of Lackland’s first responders to challenge the teens.

July 29-Aug. 2 • 5:30-6:30 p.m. We were awarded an awesome opportunity to get youth on the court. Collegiate coaches are coming to Lackland to set up a camp for ages 5-18. Learn new skills and develop the competitive edge to compete at a higher vantage point. The cost is $15 per youth. There will be two sessions for each age group.
