The Gateway Club, Kendrick Club, Parr Club and Fort Sam Houston Golf Club can provide a full range of service including a specially tailored menu, tables, chairs, place settings, decorations and more.
While staying versatile to meet the needs of all Department of Defense ID cardholders, the catering teams work to ensure their offerings meet or exceed those of other local venues.
Cynthia Cosner, 502 FSS Gateway Club manager said the base facilities are unique because of their competitive pricing which does not include tax, parking or security fees that outside venues charge.
The teams at each club are also very versed in military protocols and etiquette, said Leick.
This specialized knowledge is instrumental in ensuring military retirements, promotions, leadership recognition events and change of command ceremonies run smoothly and leave patrons satisfied with how they were accommodated.
Cosner said she likes creating menus and decorating themed events with an awesome small team, accomplishing major events flawlessly.
Effort is put into each location’s presentation, which is noticeable in the freshly painted walls and cared for green spaces at the Fort Sam Houston Golf Course.
“Our venue offers a beautiful view of the golf course,” said Jessica Parker, 502 FSS Fort Sam Houston Golf Course food and beverage manager. “We are capable of using the golf course with our catered events and can open the driving range to offer team building.”
These open-air events can be enhanced with outdoor games and portable Bluetooth speakers.
Groups interested in working with the clubs can reach out to them via phone to share desired dates, times, locations, party size and any special requests.

FEB 10-12 NEW BUNGALOWS! Come
A group of School-Age Program youth put their work on display during a Fashion Show at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, October 27.
The sea themed event highlighted garments the youth created from reusable materials. “We had 12 young designers who worked for six weeks, exploring and experimenting with recycled materials to create and design innovative wearable fashion,” said Andrea Black, School-Age Care Coordinator. “They began by collecting recycled items, planning, sketching their vision and then bringing it all to life.”
The program was not just about fashion. It also highlighted how dangerous the materials could be if not disposed of properly.
“We want to try to make everyone understand that throwing trash in the ocean is extremely dangerous to the wildlife,” said Yoko Moreno, SAC Technician Lead, to the children. “Wildlife in the ocean cannot defend themselves. We have to help them.”
The youth are going to remember the information they learned about pollution forever and be more conscious about making the earth a better place,” said Lakita Oats, parent and Parent Advisory Committee President.
The youth included a combination of household items, such as egg cartons, and craft items, such as beads, into their designs to bring their visions to reality.
Margaret, one of the 8-year-old designers, explained the net element of some outfits with a scenario. “People try to catch fish, but… when the fisherman cannot hold on to (the net), it falls in,” she said. “The net catches all the fish and they are trapped in there and cannot get any food. A shark could come and eat that. That fishing rope inside can hurt.”
While the work to prepare and present the fashion items is over, the project’s impact on its participants may last a while longer.

What is?
By Lillyana Garcia, 13 Keystone Social Media Coordinator
In Keystone, we have concessions, community service and different fun events that help with learning about responsibility, money and time management. Keystone plays a very big role in our lives. It’s where we grow, learn and guide others!
Keystone is also referred to as “our second family.” This is because Keystone has helped us deal with anxiety and helped us make new friends. Keystone has had a tremendous positive impact on our members’ mental health, manners and academics.
Keystone and non-Keystone members learn about respect and living within proper moral guidelines, which has increased our respect and kindness to one another. Keystone has given our Joint Base San Antonio teens an opportunity to accept more responsibility and leadership roles, all while working in a safe and healthy environment!
