A letter from The Principal

1

Dear Parents,

I would like to personally welcome you and your family to Jumeira Baccalaureate School, a Taaleem school. The school is unique in many ways; we offer outstanding learning, sporting and performing arts facilities on approximately eight acres of prime land in Jumeira 1, including a natural grass football field, swimming pool, gymnasiums, designated music/drama and visual arts rooms, library and shared play areas for younger students. Truly excellent education is about developing a passion for life-long learning and a capability for independent thinking. IB learners strive to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective and our confident and articulate students are encouraged to discover interests that extend beyond the classroom. With 90+ different nationalities on campus, internationalism is at the heart of our school and we celebrate this through the use of home languages, celebrations and learning that acknowledges gender, linguistic and cultural perspectives. The IB curriculum furthermore enables students to develop moral values, and display kindness, courage, respect and integrity towards each other and the world around them. At JBS you will receive a warm welcome and personal approach from your initial inquiry through to daily contact with teachers and other team members. In the pursuit of the highest academic standards through our IB programmes, we will provide a caring and supportive atmosphere, which will allow children to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally with each individual talent being nurtured and celebrated. I am looking forward to welcoming you to Jumeira Baccalaureate School. Richard Drew Principal

Mr. Drew Principal at JBS

Supporting Independence and 13 Responsibility in the Early Years At Jumeira Baccalaureate School, we believe that developing independence is one of the most important foundations for successful learning. When children are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves, they build confidence, resilience and self-management skills. Carrying Their Own Belongings We encourage all children to carry their own school bag, lunch box, water bottle, and folders where appropriate. While it can be tempting to help, carrying their own belongings helps children develop responsibility, organisation, and confidence. As children prepare for Kindergarten, we encourage families to support them in walking into school using their own legs rather than being carried or transported in a stroller. Walking helps children to develop confidence and self-reliance as well as build physical strength and stamina. Developing Independence in Dressing and Changing As children enter Kindergarten, they are expected to be developing independence in dressing and changing themselves. These skills are essential for daily school routines, particularly swimming lessons, PE activities, and other occasions where children need to manage their own belongings and clothing. Children should be able to: Put on and take off their shoes independently. Manage simple fastenings such as zips and Velcro. Change in and out of their swimming clothes with minimal adult support. Organise their belongings and return clothing to their bags. Attempt to dress themselves after using the toilet. Encouraging children to complete these tasks themselves at home will help ensure they are well prepared for the expectations of school life. Toilet Training Expectations All Kindergarten students from PreK to KG2 must be fully toilet trained before joining school in August. Being fully toilet trained includes being able to: Recognise when they need to use the toilet. Use the toilet independently. Manage clothing independently. Wipe and clean themselves appropriately. Flush the toilet. Wash and dry their hands independently.

We understand that occasional accidents can happen, particularly during times of excitement, change, or illness. However, children should be able to independently change themselves if an accident occurs. These expectations are important for both children's wellbeing and safeguarding.
