1 Dear Parents, I would like to personally welcome you and your family to Jumeira Baccalaureate School, a Taaleem school. The school is unique in many ways; we offer outstanding learning, sporting and performing arts facilities on approximately eight acres of prime land in Jumeira 1, including a natural grass football field, swimming pool, gymnasiums, designated music/drama and visual arts rooms, library and shared play areas for younger students. Truly excellent education is about developing a passion for life-long learning and a capability for independent thinking. IB learners strive to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective and our confident and articulate students are encouraged to discover interests that extend beyond the classroom. With 90+ different nationalities on campus, internationalism is at the heart of our school and we celebrate this through the use of home languages, celebrations and learning that acknowledges gender, linguistic and cultural perspectives. 2 Jumeira Baccalaureate School (JBS), a Taaleem school, is an international community founded in the United Arab Emirates that opened its doors in 2010 to serve the diverse needs of its students. JBS offers all four International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes for students from Pre-KG to Grade 12: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP).

Please note that in order to fully register your child at JBS, the following electronic copies are required: 1. Passport, Emirates ID copies (student & parents) 2. Passport Photo of student (Head and Shoulders) 3. Copy of the Immunization Record (student) 4. Medical Form 5. Any Educational Psychologist ( Ed Psych report, if applicable) 6. End of Term and End of Year school/nursery reports 7. Parent Self Declaration Form 8. Transfer Certificate (required for all students ) 9. Ministry of Education Equivalency for students who have completed Grades 9 & 10 for all students joining from Dubai Schools, non-IB Curriculum.

8 Arrival All students should arrive between 7.45-8.10am, Monday to Thursday and 7.35-7.45am every Friday. All students MUST be in homeroom at 8.10am, Monday to Thursday. Students who arrive after 8.10am will be marked as late.

Primary School Hours: Pre-K and KG1 - 8:00am to 2:10pm, Monday to Thursday and 7:45am to 12.00pm every Friday KG2 to Grade 5 - 8:00am to 2.50pm, Monday to Thursday and 7:45am to 12.00pm every Friday Secondary School Hours: Grade 6 – Grade 10: 8:00am to 2:50pm, Monday to Thursday and 7:45am to 12.00pm every Friday Grade 11 – Grade 12: 8:00am to 3:30pm, Monday to Thursday and 7:45am to 12.00pm every Friday Admissions/Accounts office is open: Monday - Thursday 08:00 to 16:00, Friday 8:00- 12:00

Students are expected and required to arrive on time for school. The UAE National Anthem will play at the start of the day and students should be in class at this time. Out of respect for our host country, parents and children are reminded to please stand when the UAE National Anthem is playing. We do understand that late arrivals are occasionally unavoidable. If arriving late (not in class by registration), parents are requested to report to Reception to register their child. Students will not be able to access classes without first visiting Reception and collecting a late slip.

LATE PICKUP It is important that you arrive on time to collect your child at the end of the school day. Staff are not available to supervise children after the school day ends.

Keeping your child off school for an extended period of time, including sick leave, this requires approval and a Leave of Absence Form must be filled in and handed to the Primary or Secondary Office, the Head of Primary or the Head of Secondary will make a decision if a leave of absence can be granted. This application should be made at least two weeks in advance.

The Leave of Absence Form can be downloaded here or requested from the reception.

9 Doctor/Dentist Appointments or any other appointments should, whenever possible, not be arranged during school hours. However, we do understand that this is not always possible and often family emergency situations can occur. In these circumstances, please inform the teacher personally, contact reception and the PA to Head of Primary or PA to Head of Secondary. If the appointment is an emergency, please try to telephone the School and then proceed to Primary or Secondary Office for permission and then to Reception to obtain a leave slip.

The Security Team will not allow a child to leave the premises without a signed slip from the school receptionist - email: reception@jbschool.ae

Please inform the school in writing if you do not wish for your child to feature in any photography that maybe used in school materials or on External / Social Media. If you do not inform us at the start of the year then we will assume that you have no objection to the photos being used. Photo Form Enclosed

Everyone entering the campus must sign in with our security and wear a JBS lanyard identity badge. Security usually keeps the Emirates ID of every visitor that enters the JBS campus. Security Passes are created for the safety and convenience of both students and the family. With this security pass, all family/non-family members (including nannies and drivers) that are mentioned on the form can have badges made to access entrance.

The parent/visitor identity badge MUST be worn at all times whilst on the school campus. Should you not have a visible badge, security or a member of staff will request further information and provide you with a temporary badge.

This Security pass form needs to be filled & then submitted to reception or the admissions’ office, the replacement cost is AED 20. Security Form is enclosed here.

Please note that it is the parent’s responsibility to inform Reception / Admissions immediately if there are any changes to your contact details phone number, email address, home address, emergency contact. It is essential that we have accurate contact details in case of an emergency.

Established in 2010, the PFA is a parent-led organization dedicated to enhancing school life through: Community Events: Organizing celebrations like National Day, Winter Wonderland, International Day, Eid Carnival, and Movie Nights.

Cultural Workshops: Supporting events such as Diwali, Christmas Fayre, and Ramadan Carnival to celebrate our diverse community.

Fundraising: Raising funds for school initiatives and UAE-registered charities.

PFA Market: Running a monthly market offering pre-loved books and uniforms, healthy baked goods, and student-led projects.

Welcoming New Families: Hosting breakfasts and social gatherings to integrate new members into the JBS community.

The PFA operates with elected roles and welcomes all parents to contribute as much or as little as they prefer. To join the PFA please contact: pfa.jbs@gmail.com Class Parent Representatives ( from PreK to Grade 5) Class Parent Reps serve as liaisons between teachers and parents, facilitating communication and organizing class events. They support teachers, connect families, and participate in termly meetings with the Deputy Head of Primary.

This role is a great way to engage with your child's class and the broader school community.

There are no class Parent Representatives for Secondary School.

All students must bring a 1.5 to 2 liters refillable water bottle to school. We do not allow any glass bottles on campus.

Pre-K to Grade 1 - should bring their own morning healthy snack and packed lunch into school. They will eat their lunch in their classrooms. Alternatively, we offer a school lunch canteen delivery service for students in these grades. The subscription is placed online through the Spare App and is delivered to the students classroom.

Grades 2 –12 - may also bring a packed lunch and morning snack into school if they wish. Alternatively, we offer a school lunch canteen service.

Please note that we have a no nuts, no pork and no fizzy drinks policy at school.

We encourage children to eat healthily.

DON’TS Kindly avoid sending in sweets, chocolate, cakes, muffins or crisps/chips.

Chewing gum is not allowed on campus.

Microwaves are not provided to warm food.

Parents are not allowed to bring food during the school day.

Birthday Celebrations no food or gift bags are allowed. In Primary a book can be donated to the library on behalf of the celebrating child. (Optional) FOOD DELIVERIES ARE NOT ALLOWED.

No cash, e-pay, debit or credit cards are accepted at Leela’s Lunches Grade 2 to Grade 12 will attend the canteen and pay for school lunches through a Leela’s Pre-Paid Card If students have lost or forgotten their card, they will go to Primary or Secondary reception to get a food token for that day PreK to Grade 1 students that have signed up to Leela’s meal subscription will have school meals delivered to their homeroom Allergy accommodations available (e.g. dairy-free, gluten-free).

Our primary methods of communication with parents include email and school newsletters for general news and updates about your child.

Primary School: We use Seesaw for classroom updates, grade-level news, and newsletters, class WhatsApps groups.

Secondary School: We use ManageBac and Teams for homework and classroom updates.

Whole School: School reports will be released onto ManageBac and School Cloud is used to book Extracurricular Activities (ECAs) and Parent-Teacher Conferences.

14 ECA’s are offered by JBS teaching staff: Monday-Thursday Some ECAs are also provided by external providers and have an additional charge, paid directly to the provider.

In each term new ECAs are offered The sign-up for ECAs is via the School Cloud the login and password details will be shared by the second week of the term.

Children can sign-up for two ECAs per week, based on availability.

No ECA’s are offered for PreK ASA’s are also offered by many of Dubai’s top sports, academic and performing arts academies on evenings and weekends. These create an excellent pathway for pupils wanting to develop their passion and extracurricular skills further. Like the external ECA’S offerings these are independently run and there is a fee for signing up.

15 All students should have the PE bag clearly marked with their name. Bags should not exceed 43cm high x 25cm wide x 20cm deep in order to fit into cubbies and lockers. A robust bag is strongly recommended. They should not be wheeled, as “wheelie bags” are trip hazards and do not fit in the lockers. You will be informed of your child’s PE and swimming days during Week 1.

In Primary Shoes - Black leather / black athletics shoes with no decoration, brand name or colour, which fully support, protects and encloses the foot.

Socks - must be charcoal or black in colour.

In Secondary Shoes - only leather shoes are allowed; not canvas, cotton etc.

Unacceptable shoes: flip flops, sandals, high heels, spiked shoes and Crocs Socks -must be charcoal or black in colour.

Kindly be advised that no make-up (apart from foundation or flesh-colored makeup), nail varnish, tattoos or piercings are allowed. Jewelry should be kept at a minimum (one pair of stud earrings, bracelet and watch are acceptable). No jewellery for Primary students other than studs.

JBS continues to use several learning products. Those products will allow students to engage with their teachers and fellow students in an interactive environment.

Primary school Seesaw is an online application that allows parents to be up-to-date with their child’s learning and comment on their child’s work.

Grade Leaders and Primary Newsletters Parents can also access Seesaw and comment on their child’s work.

ManageBac - Reports can be accessed via this platform Secondary school Parents will be given access to ManageBac which is a learning management system (LMS) designed specifically for International Baccalaureate (IB) schools. Through this platform, you will be able to access your child’s unit planners and inquiry cycles for all subjects, as well as upcoming assessments, grades, and any resources used within the classroom.

During your child’s first week, we will provide them with a login and password for ManageBac, as well as teach them how to use this system.

You will also receive email logins for your children once they have been registered, In order to support you with ManageBac.
