ucier, Jared Miguez

There was a time when I measured my value by how full my books were. Today, things look very different. Now, you’ll find me mentoring, coaching, and developing my talented team at Gray & Graham and salon owners all across our area. My time is spent face-to-face with stylists, sharing with them my deep passion and care for their craft. Their growth and their future matter to me. For me, business is deeply personal, where I work closely with stylists, not just teaching them technique, but teaching vision.

From my experience, I mentor them to think about the guests’ experience, how to think and move like a six-figure stylist, how to build a clientele with intention, and so many more lessons.

I want to pass on my professional knowledge to stylists, to show them it can give them a life and long-term security. Still, talent alone doesn’t build success. Structure does. Standards do.

ESTATE PLANNING: THE DETAILS PEOPLE FORGET

Most estate plans focus on wills and trusts. What families actually struggle with are the small, missing details. In Louisiana, where the succession process can already be unique, these gaps can lead to delays, confusion, and added expense.

DIGITAL ACCESS AND KEY INFORMATION

If your family cannot find it, it might as well not exist.

•Passwords, email access, and two-factor authentication

•Bank and investment accounts

•Insurance policies, numbers, and agent contacts

•Contact information for your attorney, CPA, and advisors

Keeping a secure, updated list can save your family significant time during a succession.

FAITH AND PERSONAL WISHES

For many Louisiana families, faith plays a central role, but these wishes are often left unwritten.

•Burial in a specific cemetery or specific church preferences

•Funeral Mass/Service, graveside services, or other religious traditions

•Requests for prayers, donations, or memorials to your church or ministry

Putting this in writing helps ensure your family honors your beliefs and avoids uncertainty during an emotional time.

DON’T FORGET PETS

Under Louisiana law, pets are considered property, but to most families they are part of the household.

•Name a trusted caretaker

•Set aside funds for care

•Include veterinarian information, diet, and routines

Planning ahead helps avoid last-minute decisions or confusion.

COMMONLY MISSED BUT IMPORTANT

These items are frequently overlooked and can create real problems in a Louisiana succession.

•Beneficiary designations. These control many accounts regardless of your will, so they should be reviewed regularly.

•A letter of instructions covering bills, utilities, and property upkeep.

•Digital assets such as cryptocurrency, domain names, online businesses, and stored photos.

Estate planning is not just about assets; it’s about peace of mind and taking care of your loved ones and your wishes. Often, it is the small details that make the biggest difference.

Summer is a time to relax, unwind, restore, rest, and for some of us to heal. Here are 10 thoughtful ways to make your home feel more relaxing, restorative, and supportive of emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being:

1. Declutter What You See First

Your brain is constantly processing visual information. Clearing countertops, entry tables, and bedside surfaces creates an immediate sense of calm and reduces mental fatigue.

Try this: Leave only beautiful or meaningful items in view and give everything else a designated home.

2. Choose Softer, Nature-Inspired Colors

Colors influence mood more than most people realize. Soft blues, greens, warm whites, muted taupes, and earthy neutrals tend to lower stress and create a sense of peace.

Good options: BM White Dove, BM Elmira White, SW White Duck, BM Wales Gray, soft sage greens, and muted blue-grays.

3. Bring Nature Indoors

Studies consistently show that natural elements help lower stress and improve overall well-being.

Add: ~Fresh flowers, ~Live plants, ~Natural wood finishes, ~Stone, linen, cotton, and wool textures, ~Views to the outdoors whenever possible Even one beautiful plant can change the energy of a room.

4. Layer Your Lighting

Harsh overhead lighting can make a home feel clinical and overstimulating.

Aim for three layers: ~Ambient lighting (ceiling fixtures), ~Task lighting (reading lamps), ~Accent lighting (candles, picture lights, sconces)

Rule of thumb: If every light in a room is overhead, add lamps.

5. Create a Quiet Retreat Space

Every home benefits from one place dedicated to rest, prayer, reading, reflection, or simply sitting quietly.

It doesn’t have to be large: ~A comfortable chair, ~Small table, ~Soft lamp, ~Throw blanket, ~Bible or favorite book This becomes a visual reminder to slow down.

6. Engage the Senses Intentionally

Healing environments appeal to more than just sight.

Consider: ~Soft textures, ~Gentle music, ~Natural fragrances, ~Comfortable room temperatures, ~Quality bedding and towels

When multiple senses feel cared for, the entire home feels more nurturing.

7. Invest in Better Sleep Spaces

Your bedroom should feel different from the rest of the house.

Focus on: ~Blackout draperies, ~Comfortable mattress and pillows, ~Layered bedding, ~Reduced electronics, ~Calm colors

The quality of your sleep affects every other area of wellness.

8. Display Meaningful Things

Homes feel healing when they tell your story.

Instead of filling shelves with random accessories, display: ~Family photos, ~Travel memories, ~Meaningful heirlooms, ~Favorite artwork, ~Scripture verses or faith-based pieces

These remind you what truly matters.

9. Improve Flow and Function

Stress often comes from frustration.

Ask yourself: ~Is there a place to drop keys?

~Are frequently used items easy to reach?,

~Does furniture allow comfortable movement?, ~Are daily routines supported?

Good design reduces friction and conserves emotional energy.

10. Make Room for Gratitude and Faith

A healing home nourishes the soul as well as the body.

Consider: ~A prayer journal station, ~Scripture art, ~A family prayer basket, ~A gratitude board, ~A favorite worship playlist

A truly restorative home isn’t about perfection. It’s about creating an environment that helps people breathe easier, connect more deeply, and experience peace.

A Final Design Principle

When evaluating any room, ask: “Does this space make me feel hurried, or does it invite me to exhale?”

The most healing homes are the ones that consistently invite us to exhale.

Owner of Northlake & Lakeview Academy of Music music Tips by beau chêne Resident Leslie Thomas Domingues

Summer Music Practice Tips

Practice a little every day

Ten to fifteen minutes of focused practice each day is often more effective than one long practice session once a week.

Create a Summer Practice Routine

Choose a consistent time each day, after breakfast, before screen time, or after dinner, to build a lasting habit.

Set Small Goals

Focus on one or two specific goals each week, such as mastering a scale, learning a new section of a song, or improving rhythm accuracy.

Keep Your Instrument Accessible

Students are more likely to practice when their instrument is set up and ready to play.

Use a Practice Chart

Track practice days with stickers or checkmarks. Celebrate consistency, not perfection!

Perform for Family and Friends

Mini concerts at home help build confidence and give students something fun to work toward.

Listen to Music Daily

Listening to great musicians inspires students and helps develop musical understanding.

1. HYDRATE + PROTECT

Hydration and sun protection are the ultimate summer skincare duo. Wear SPF daily, reapply every two hours to the face and neck, seek shade, and throw on a cute UPF hat. Prevention is always easier (and more effective) than correction.

2. VITAMIN C + MOISTURIZER

Vitamin C helps fight oxidative stress from heat and UV exposure while brightening the skin. Pair it with a lightweight moisturizer to support the skin barrier, lock in hydration, and keep skin glowing all summer long.

3. MICRONEEDLING FOR A SUMMER GLOW-UP

Microneedling boosts collagen, improves texture, softens fine lines, and helps minimize pores and acne scars. With proper aftercare and SPF, it’s my favorite treatment to keep skin radiant and the perfect prep for glowing fall skin.

A seasonal refresh doesn’t have to be complicated — small, proactive steps now can help you feel confident, energized, and glowing all summer long. To learn more or schedule a consultation, visit www.hollrahwellness.com — Nurse Carly, FNP-C

beau chêne residents Jamie Davis, and Easton springmann family pet

Piper

Piper belongs to Jamie Davis, Easton Springmann—one of Beau Chene’s 2026 graduating seniors—, and Easton’s sisters. Piper is a mixture of two sweet, loving breeds: Labrador and Golden Retriever. While she has a long, red coat and long muzzle, taking after her Golden side, she looks more like a Labrador.

After adopting her in her early puppy years, Piper showed she was very trainable, as long as treats were near by. They quickly became her main source of motivation, with a spoonful of peanut butter topping the charts! Her joyous, loyal, and playful attitude is what continues to steal her family’s heart day after day.

“Sometimes we believe Piper owns us,” her mom Jamie says, explaining how Piper is in fact the ruler of their home. “She is famously friendly greeting everyone that walks into our home.” Ever the hostess and southern charmer, Piper loves welcoming people to her home and the neighborhood, taking her daily stroll.

Piper’s energy level is high, and instead of the traditional game of fetch, she’d much rather have you fetch her. “She’s not a retriever to toys or balls, but rather she thinks it’s more fun to run around with them for you to catch her.”

Last summer, Piper completely tore her ACL in an accidental jump. She had surgery

to repair the tear, and rehabbed for over five months. Throughout this time, she was consistently active and remained outgoing and positive, always welcoming her family home each day after work and school with her affection and love. Despite her injury, she still enjoys her leisurely walks in the evening through Beau Chene.

Piper will always be a companion to everyone in her family. When her brother Easton goes off to college in the fall, Piper will miss him deeply, and him her. But, when he returns home for a visit, she will welcome him with plenty of wags and kisses. She will remain his biggest cheerleader while he continues his baseball career!

“Row Rucks!” Piper barks, shouting a hardy “Go Bucs!” in English.

Dr. Aust Interventional Pain

Business Spotlight

For many people living with chronic pain, hope can feel out of reach. At Dr. Aust Interventional Pain in Slidell, hope is at the center of everything they do.

Dr. Tod A. Aust has built his practice on a simple but powerful philosophy: Pain Relief without Pain Pills. Through innovative treatments, personalized care, and a commitment to helping patients regain control of their lives, Dr. Aust and his team are redefining pain management.

Dr. Aust’s journey into medicine is deeply personal. Watching his wife, Tina, navigate the daily challenges of fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis inspired him to pursue a career dedicated to helping others find relief from chronic pain. After graduating from UCLA, with honors in anesthesiology and a fellowship in Pain Medicine, he brought his expertise to Louisiana. Drawn by the resilience and spirit of the post-Katrina community, he found a place where his passion for serving others could thrive.

Today, Dr. Aust is known for taking on complex cases that many consider untreatable. As an interventional pain management specialist, he combines advanced medical technology with a thorough, individualized approach to care. Rather than treating symptoms alone, he identifies and addresses multiple overlapping pain sources, customizing treatment plans designed for lasting results. That approach has helped 95% of his patients achieve meaningful, long-term improvement, reducing or eliminating dependence on opioids.

Whether utilizing life-changing intrathecal pump therapies, exploring cutting-edge treatments for refractory pain, or guiding patients through comprehensive pain management strategies, Dr. Aust remains focused on patients achieving sustainable relief and improved function.

Helping advance that mission is Michael Beninato,

MPAS, PA-C, whose path to medicine began in physical therapy and was strengthened through years of military service. With more than two decades of experience in orthopedic and spine surgery, he brings a unique perspective to patient care, recognizing the connection between movement, function, and overall wellness.

Together, Aust and Beninato are expanding the practice beyond traditional pain management into what they believe represents the future of healthcare. Services focused on weight loss, hormone optimization, regenerative medicine, and aesthetics reflect their commitment to helping patients prevent chronic illness and maximize long-term health.

Patients are also supported by a compassionate clinical team. Miranda Johnston, PA-C, also shares Dr. Aust’s commitment to leaving no stone unturned in diagnosing and treating pain. Validating each patient’s concerns, she takes the time to understand their experiences and helps to create an environment where they feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care.

Behind every successful patient experience is a phenomenal administrative and support staff that ensures attentive, seamless care from the first phone call through every stage of treatment. That commitment has not gone unnoticed. Dr. Aust was named Northshore’s Best Pain Management Doctor in East St. Tammany from 2021-2025, an honor the practice views as a reflection of the trust patients place in them and the dedication they bring to every interaction.

What truly sets Dr. Aust Interventional Pain apart is its combination of innovation, expertise, and empathy. By pairing advanced interventional techniques with a focus on wellness and preventive care, patients move beyond pain and toward healthier, more active lives.

Three-Peat: A Championship Soccer Culture at St. Scholastica Academy

State Champions

Winning one state championship is an accomplishment. Winning three in a row is the result of a culture built on discipline, accountability, and trust. In just his fifth season as head coach of St. Scholastica Academy soccer, Glenn Benjamin, whom the team calls Coach Benji, led the Doves to their first-ever three-peat, the program’s 10th state championship, and a season that earned him Division II Coach of the Year honors and a spot as one of eight finalists for National High School Coach of the Year.

For Coach Benji, the championship began with the players’ mindset. “This year was truly special because of the commitment, resilience, and chemistry these players showed from day one,” he says. “Every player bought into the teamfirst mentality. It wasn’t just about talent—it was about heart, discipline, and believing in one another.”

His expectations were straightforward. “Playing time is earned. It’s not given.” With contributors ranging from eighth graders to seniors, every player had to earn her place. The team’s depth also allowed Benjamin to rotate lineups, play multiple formations, and adapt to different opponents throughout the season.

The results spoke for themselves. St. Scholastica finished the regular season 11-5-6, allowing just 15 goals while recording 13 shutouts. In the postseason, the Doves elevated their game, scoring 21 goals while surrendering only one, forcing 108 offsides, and adding three more shutouts on their way to another state title.

Senior captain Reese Dantin says the team’s greatest strength was its resilience. “The season consisted of a lot of very high moments, but also a lot of low moments,” she says. “The way the team adapted to those low moments is what made this season extraordinary.”

Sophomore Molly Montgomery, who scored one of the goals in the state championship match, credits Coach’s belief in the team for keeping everyone focused. “We were on the wrong track, and because of Coach Benji and his belief in us and our capabilities, we pulled it out in the end,” she says. “We worked for the three-peat all year, and we won because of our mental game as much as our physical game.”

Coach agrees that mental toughness defined the season. “We battled tough opponents, pressure, adversity—we even battled the flu,” he says.

“Somehow, we still showed up the next day and played like champions.”

Freshman Lilette Ferrand quickly discovered why the program has become one of Louisiana’s best. “Our team is like a family,” she says. “We have strong friendships, trust each other, and always encourage one another both on and off the field.”

That chemistry extended beyond the field with team-building experiences, including a bowling outing at Paradise Alley in Mandeville, strengthening the bonds that fueled the team’s success.

The Doves also collected an impressive list of individual honors. Molly Montgomery was named District Offensive MVP, Bailey Tardo earned District Overall MVP, and Adalynn Hebert was named District Co-Defensive MVP and St. Tammany Farmer Defensive Player of the Year. Five players earned First Team All-State honors, while Reese Dantin and Addison Foret were selected to the Second Team.

Coach Benji shares that this win was especially sweet because it gave the Doves three straight championships while winning titles in both Division I and Division II. Resse Dantin reflects on her extraordinary senior year, adding that “the true championship came through the relationships we made throughout the season and the work we put in to reach that goal.” Coach Benji just returned from attending the National High School Athletic Coaches Association banquet in Iowa, where he was one of eight finalists for national high school coach of the year, a well deserved honor.

For St. Scholastica Academy, the three-peat wasn’t just another championship. It was the reward for a team that trusted its coach, believed in each other, and embraced the process every step of the way.
