STUDENT ADDRESS Honored guests, family, friends, faculty, and administrators, thank you all for making this day possible and for coming to celebrate the Class of 2020. First I would like to say I don’t usually do things like this. I am never the one to volunteer to speak in front of people. This is something I never dreamt of doing, but being a student here has taught me to dream and that I am capable of more than I know. Barrack has given us the opportunity to be a part of programs (like MUSS) and learn from teachers that have given us confidence and a sense of adventure. I love Barrack and I love my grade, and I really wanted to take this opportunity to talk about that. I moved here from Israel and started at Barrack in 10th grade, and I am so happy that I did. I have met some of the most amazing people and learned from some of the most inspirational teachers. While I have only been a part of this community for three years, I am so grateful for that time. Getting to study alongside such hardworking students and friends has been a privilege. Learning from teachers who care about our success has been a privilege. Going to Barrack has been a privilege. We have done so much together. We have gone from America to Israel to Poland and back. We have gone to Washington DC, climbed Masada, walked from one side of the country to another, and lived through a pandemic. Through all of these experiences I have come to call you all my family. I remember returning home from MUSS and after living together for three months, we got a week off from

school. While anyone else would rejoice at getting a week off from school, we couldn’t wait to go back. Getting to see each other after that very long week felt like being home again. All the things we’ve seen and all the places we’ve been have brought us together and taught us that we can count on each other. I am so proud to be a part of the 2020 graduating class and am so lucky to call you all my family. This day is one of those days you dream of when you're a little kid and it seems so far off in the future. Now that we are here, I can say with confidence that none of us ever dreamt that it would be like this. The past few months have been difficult and full of uncertainties, and this has been a year full of ups and downs. But we made it. We made it to the day we dreamt of, the day that we counted down the minutes to and marked on our calendars, the day that officially ends one chapter in our lives and begins another. We started our four years of high school knowing that it would eventually end. Within that limited time, we have all made relationships and connections that made our time at Barrack so precious. Those same relationships are what make it hard to let go. And if these past few months have taught us anything, then they have taught us the value of life and of living to the fullest. I hope that we enter this next chapter with excitement, motivation, curiosity, and confidence in the friendships we’ve forged and the knowledge we have gained. And I hope that turning the page does not seem too scary.

Throughout our time at Barrack we have been told that we are a “special grade,” and I don’t think anyone can refute that. We like to talk—a lot; we have never been the best at listening; we argue, and no one can say we aren’t passionate. But that isn’t what makes us special. What makes us special is during Yam le Yam when people were having a hard time, there was always someone there to immediately offer a hand. There were people hiking with two bags just so that they could help their classmates. What makes us special is that when Erez got into college, he was one of the first in our grade to do so, and we all celebrated him and cheered for him as if we had all just gotten our own acceptance letters. What makes us special is the way we take care of one another and celebrate each other. That is what makes us a “special grade.” I would like to finish by saying that I am so honored to have known each and every one of you. All the amazing institutions that we are going to have no idea how lucky they are. They are not just gaining another brilliant student, but also an amazing human being. I am so proud of us and can’t wait to see where we all do next. Congratulations to us and good luck to us on our next chapter in life.

RULES & REGULATIONS •
Attendees are limited to the senior, parents, and siblings.
•
Please stay in your designated parking spot.
•
If you leave your car, you must wear a mask.
•
You may not enter the building at any time.
•
After the speeches, each senior will be invited to come up to the stage and receive a diploma from Mrs. Levin, who will be wearing gloves and a mask.
•
Two professional photographers will be present to take a photo of your senior(s) as they walk across the stage, and to take family photos after the ceremony. (Photography must comply with social distancing requirements as well, so family photos are the only group shots allowed.)
