The Air Base ORC offers an indoor and mobile climbing wall. The indoor wall is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Climbers need to weigh a minimum of 50 lbs. in order to climb on the auto-belay wall. Cost is $6 for first-time users; $5 for every subsequent climbing session. The mobile climbing wall is available by reservation for large events or parties on and off base. Price varies, depending on dates/ times needed and number of climbers. Stop by or call for more details.

Why buy it if you can rent it? The Air Base ORC has a building and a lot full of gear of all shapes, and sizes for your use. Just a small sample of water sports gear include: jon boats, Bass Tracker boats, kayaks, canoes, water skis, fishing gear and surfboards. Heading to the mountains or forest? We have campers, tents, cooking gear, several sizes of ice chests, back packs and inflatable sleep mattresses. We also have charcoal and propane grills, picnic canopies, deep fryers, coffee pots, folding chairs, tables and car top carriers. Orientation needed before checking-out boat July 9 & 23 These one-hour orientation classes are required in order to checkout motor-driven ORC boats. Advance class registration required. Cost is $5. Before attending class, boater must take and pass a free on-line boater safety course at www.boatus.org. Call the Air Base ORC after testing to schedule an orientation class. JBCharleston.com

Shark fishing trips – Charleston Harbor. Join the the Air Base ORC on a shark fishing adventure in the Charleston Harbor. This five-hour fishing trip will leave from W.O. Thomas boat landing in North Charleston at 9 a.m. Cost is $45pp (regular price, $75), which includes boat, captain, fishing gear and bait. All participants must have a current S.C. saltwater fishing license to board the boast. Minimum age is 12 years old. Bring your own beverages and food; cooler and ice provided. ORC dates are: July 9, 11, 14 and 24. Liberty date is July 28. All trips are limited in group size; sign-up early! Boat orientation classes – July 9 & 23. Air Base ORC. A boat orientation class at the ORC is required to check-out any motor-driven boat in the their inventory. Prior to scheduling & attending a class, participants must take the on-line Boaters Safety Course at www.boatus.org and bring proof of completion. Class dates: July 9 & July 23 at 4 p.m. both days. Pre-registration is required for all boat orientation classes. Glass Fusion Class – July 11. Blue Heron Glass Works, Charleston. Patrons will learn general glass fusion techniques and procedures. Participants will create an 8-inch or 12-inch dish under the watchful eye of the instructor. Cost includes materials and instruction. Class meets at Blue Heron. Cost: $35pp R4R, regular price: $60pp. Class starts at 10:45 a.m., ending around 1 p.m. Tandem Skydiving - July 13. Walterboro, S.C. Jump out of a perfectly good airplane because your mother told you not to! Must be at least 18 years old and not weigh more than 220 lbs. Cost: $120pp R4R, list price $225pp. Price includes transportation, instruction, all gear and tandem skydive. Departs from The Dive on the Weapons Station at 7:15 a.m., returning around 3 p.m. Crowder’s Mountain Hiking – July 13. Gaston County, N.C.. This is a four-mile strenuous hike on the pinnacle trail that leads to the summit outlook of the mountain. Cost: $30pp R4R; regular price, $45pp. Price includes transportation, day pack if needed, park admission trail guide, light lunch and snacks for the trail. Leaves The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 7 a.m., returning about 9 p.m. Jet ski safari trips – July 14. Isle of Palms, S.C. Get ready for a wild ride on the Inter-coastal Waterway and into the Barrier Islands off Charleston. This high-speed adventure is a must for adrenaline junkies. The $45pp (regular price $100) cost includes transportation, jet ski rental and safari. Two departure locations: the Air Base ORC trips departs the ORC at 8 a.m., and returns at approximately 12 p.m. The Liberty trip leaves The Dive parking lot on the Weapons Station at 9:15 a.m., returning around 1 p.m. Charleston river cruise – July 16. Charleston Harbor. Join us on a river cruise on the beautiful Ashley River. The $20pp cost includes the cruise and a very entertaining history lesson of local Charleston landmarks. Patrons can bring food and drinks. Be sure to pack sunscreen! Departure from Air Base ORC at 4 p.m., returning around 8 p.m. Bulls Bay Shelling Trip – July 17. Wild Dunes, S.C. The AB ORC is heading to Bulls Bay Island to search for all kinds of shells and learn about the local wildlife. The $20pp (R4R) cost includes transportation and shelling equipment. Regular price: $35pp. Trips leaves at 1 p.m. and returns around 6 p.m. National Whitewater Center – July 20. Charlotte, N.C. If you enjoy a good adrenaline rush, jump on this trip! We will conquer whitewater rapids, zip lining, kayaking, paddle boarding and much more! Cost: $50pp R4R; regular price, $75. Price includes transportation, admission and an “all sports pass.” Departs from the Weapons Station Dive parking lot at 6:30 a.m., returning about 8 p.m. Charleston Farm to Table Tour – July 20. Charleston. Calling all foodies! This trip takes you to downtown Charleston to taste some locally sourced dishes. The professional chef will show you how they select their ingredients and how to cook a delicious meal. Cost: $45pp; regular price, $90. Price includes transportation and meal. Departure: TBA. Learn To Surf – July 21. Isle of Palms, S.C. No need for experience with a surf board - we will teach you all the basics of surfing along with an instructor in the water guiding you on how to become a surfer! Cost: $30pp R4R, $120 list price. Departs from the Air Base Outdoor Rec Center at 9 a.m., returning at approximately 2 p.m. Green River Waterfall Trek – July 27. Saluda, N.C. Take a break from the rat race and go tubing down parts of the Congaree River. Free summer fun for kids

Base youth ages 5-15 can bowl two games free every weekday during summer school break at Starlifter Lanes on the Air Base or Marrington Lanes on the Weapons Station. Registration is easy - just go to www.kidsbowlfree.com and select one of the bowling centers. Then, fill out and submit one form for all of the kids in your family. Parents will be emailed bowling coupons every week for free bowling. You also have the option of purchasing a Family Pass, which was created to allow adult family members to enjoy bowling throughout the summer as well. The Family Pass starts from $29.95 and includes two games per person per day. The Family Pass covers up to 4 adult family members. Red, White & Blue Tournament SATURDAY, JULY 13 - 7:30 A.M.

The JB Charleston Golf Association is hosting this tournament at Redbank Plantation Golf Course on the Weapons Station. Start time is 7:30 a.m. Format will be: holes 1-6, played from the red tees; holes 7-12 played from the white tees; holes 13-18 played from the blue tees. Handicaps will be used, with prizes being awarded based on participation and golfers age group/gender. Entry fee is $20, plus greens fee and cart. Non-association members may play in three tournaments during the year prior to being required to join the association. Prior registration is needed to play in this tournament. Call the Redbank Plantation Golf Course to sign-up or for more information.

REINTEGRATION BRIEFING This very valuable briefing is for individuals returning from a deployment to help them reintegrate back into family life. Individuals are required to attend one of these sessions within seven days of returning to home station. Session also includes the mandatory voter information brief for all reintegrating members. July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, 12:30-4 p.m. PREPPING FOR A PCS In conjunction with the Military Personnel Section, this mandatory workshop preps the attendee for orders and provides expert advice from several agencies to help with relocation. Registration continues for youth summer camps JB Charleston Youth Programs has a really dynamic roster of summer camps this year and registration is now open for all of them. Here are some guidelines that apply to all camps: Immunization records that include a current flu shot are required at registration; water, sunscreen and bug spray are provided, but meals (lunch) are not; Youth Programs membership ($35 a year per youth) required for all teen part-day camps, in addition to weekly camp fees; camps may be canceled if the minimum number of participants is not reached. For more details on registration or the camps, please call the hosting youth center.
