palomar pomerado - nursing care facility
palomar pomerado, a nursing / assisted living and care facility is a project that is currently still in production in the construction document phase of design.
the project goals were to provide a beautified space that engages and entertains residents through amenity spaces carved out of existing infrastructure.
the challenge was to provide a plaza that was appealing while inconveniently located adjacent to a loud drop off area; matching the character of the existing site; and provides a comforting experience to elderly and terminal residents. another challenge was to ensure the outdated and neglected existing courtyard and garden were enhanced.
in schematic, we tackled the drop-off plaza with a sheltered space that incorporates a linear water feature to block out road noise; in the courtyard we proposed a bird garden inspired by persian bul-bul gardens of iran and proposed a custom shade structure that took design influence from the form a tree groves creates.
by design development and after budgeting cuts, we solidified the plaza water feature through informative detailing; provided renderings utilizing various software for each space, determined finalized materials with the clients, developed a plant palette that compliments the existing site character and benefits the residents through textural, edible, floral and colorful characteristics that attracted all sensory aptitudes.
currently, in the construction document phase, we have began addressing submittals and requests for information so that the construction team and contractors are on the same page as the design team. utilizing the renders from the design development page in explanatory ways.

the elements - sorrento valley
sorrento valley is a bio-tech driven location of san diego. the elements is an existing restoration and re-imaginative take on a commercial property that was built in the 1980s. my team took the project from schematic to final construction.
many challenges occurred: (a) the site was heavily graded, (b) there were existing conditions that were not accounted for in the civil linework and required many site visits and analysis of old drafted documents to uncover, (c) many mature trees and seat walls needed to be protected-in-place during construction and required heavy coordination through exhibits and field verification, and (d) as the project progressed, more scope of work increases occurred and required many submittals and requests for information from contractors.
schematic design allowed for imaginative play in terms of design, fabrication, and material selection. converting old & discontinued fountain reels into planters and providing advantages nooks that were once fountain basins into usable amenity spaces.
design development took the drawings into 3d to further pitch design intent to the clients and get buy-offs on integral elements within the project.
by construction development and into construction administration, high-level designs were coordinated and brought to life giving a new character to the site that will cater to the young professional occupants to come.

kapilina beach homes - hawaii
developers greystar & livcor reached out to our firm to collaborate on a large-scale residential project in o’ahu, hawaii known as kapilina beach homes. a site directly adjacent to pearl harbor and once a military residential property.
our first objective was to develop the main lodge into an amenity space that took into consideration sea level rise, existing conditions and the potential to market the development for future scope expansion.
through careful planning and development of the main lodge and immediate community amenities, we successfully increased the scope of the project to include the entire development (a 1-billion dollar investment project).
as the main consultants on the project--which is not typical for a landscape architecture firm--we managed both the architectural side, civil side, and construction of the main lodge and surrounding parks and trails and were given complete design control of site character interior spaces and exterior spaces.
currently, the project is undergoing construction and slated to be complete in 2025.

uncommons, las vegas, nv.
uncommons, las vegas in nevada is a fast-paced project for a mixed-use, high-residential space geared toward emerging professionals.
the development took on a myriad of design changes extending into construction development, which is unusual for a project of this scope.
material development and continuous coordination between on-site civil engineering hick-ups, last minute client alterations, and material lead time extensions made this project challenging.
moving at a accelerated pace and coordinating at a distance allowed for extreme learning curves and intense construction objectives that bettered our teams understanding of working outside of the southern california silo and refined our understanding of design.

clyfford still museum, co.
studying environmental design at the university of colorado in boulder provided opportunities for creativity and broader expertise in design in a more general sense.
being hands on with materials in challenging ways to construct and piece together designs allowed opportunities for proficiency, knowledge development, and patience.
the clyfford still museum study was done in an architectural class that focused on site analysis, materiality and form.
many other courses and internships provided opportunities such as the tidal basin competition redesign in washington d.c.
winning the competition and being featured in the smithsonian were highlights of my college career and helped me refine my capacity and love for the profession.
