Preview of Master’s Thesis: Designing for Health in the Suburbs
Proposed District Plan Legend
Summer 2018 Virginia Tech, WAAC
A proposal to improve health in the suburbs through design. This project was an interpretation of how architects can approach the design issue of transforming an inherently unhealthy environment into one that supports health by intervening on several different scales; ranging from urban interventions down to the small details of the appliances in the kitchens of private homes.

Balconies act as “backyardsâ€? for apartment dwellers, where opportuni es for gardening, interac ng with neighbors and enjoying views of the community garden are oered for humans and pets alike.
Food harvested from the community garden to use in kitchens cuts down on environmental impact of delivering food from afar. Rain barrels catch rainwater to be reused to water plants in garden.
The Greenhouse acts as a direct connec on between the healthy outdoor realm to a healthy interior space, where food for the teaching kitchen can be grown.

A rural area developed into a new community consisting of prefabricated homes inspired by barns. The houses capitalize on the most charming features of the typical barnincluding loft spaces and large sliding doors. 3’ x 3’ modules are shifted to accomodate features such as atrium spaces, stairs and balconies. This project is a reinterpretation of the typical barn and a study in community planning in a region known for its dynamic topography.

Professional Projects In Which I Played And Integral Role And The Companies That Have Taught Me Along The Way Sanchez Palmer Architects, 2017-2018
C DESIGN, 2014-2016
SOW Design Studio, 2014
Worked in a small office and used my design background to help revitalize presentation drawings. My time with Sanchez Palmer taught me a lot about single family home design, code, zoning, and construction administration for Single Family, as well as Commercial projects.
Worked in a mid sized office on a wide range of projects, ranging from hospitality to large public buildings. Gained confidence in working on all phases of design projects from Schematic Design to Construction Administration. Contributed greatly to Construction document composition, review, coordination, and revisions.
Worked in a small office on Hospitality, Single Family Home, and Small Commercial projects. Gained confidence working with clients and creating presentation drawings and presentation layout. This job provided an abundance of experience in creating as-built drawings, professional renderings, + working with large Revit files.
Assisted with existing building documentation, SD - CA work. Helped design and draw custom millwork details and finish selection + coordination.
UNCC Student Activity Center | Charlotte, NC | 2015
HSI Blo Bar | Miami, FL | 2014 Blo Bar: Assisted with schematic design, 3d modeling, + presentation design.
