About The City High Jazz Ensemble:
The City High Jazz Ensemble is the premier big band in the City High Jazz program. The band maintains an extensive performance calendar in a normal year, performing for concerts at City High and throughout the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City corridor area in addition to jazz festivals and competitions in Iowa and Illinois. The City High Jazz Ensemble performs for two home events including the City High 4th Ave. Show Choir Winter Show and the City High Jazz Showcase (this year’s guest artist is trumpeter Marques Carroll from Chicago). They placed second this year at the Coe Jazz Summit.
The City High Jazz Ensemble is led by one of their own. Mr. Ottmar is a proud graduate of City, and also an alumnus of the Corridor Jazz Project, which started during his time at City. And he’s doing double duty this year, also performing as guest with Centerpoint-Urbana.
About Oisin Leopold:
Oisin Leopold, like Mr. Ottmar, is a City High Alum. He had a great career not just in music, but in athletics as a runner. He’s been playing piano since age 7, and has been composing his own music and leading bands since high school. He is currently studying at UNI, where he ran track for awhile, and has continued to perform with other students, teachers, and local musicians.
