Southwest Advanced Prototyping (SWAP) Hub A regional ecosystem for microelectronics innovation Led by Arizona State University, the Southwest Advanced Prototyping Hub is one of eight regional innovation hubs established under the Department of Defense’s Microelectronics Commons, a national strategic initiative to accelerate the prototyping and production of critical microelectronics technologies. Funded by a $39.8 million initial DoD investment, the SWAP Hub is one of the first awards under the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. The SWAP Hub’s 150+ regional and national partners work together to accelerate the lab-to-fab transition from innovative research to industry and military application. The hub also collaborates on curriculum development, learning opportunities and job pathways for the future workforce. ASU leads hub activities and develops the human, physical and digital capabilities of its partners. This maximizes value to the DoD and advances national security priorities around microelectronics, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence hardware, 5G/6G wireless technology and commercial leap-ahead technologies.
Partner with SWAP Hub Join the SWAP Hub’s growing group of visionary leaders — top semiconductor manufacturers, defense firms, national labs, academic institutions and startups — to shape this emerging field and take advantage of vital connections.
Partnership benefits include: • Teaming and funding opportunities, including CHIPS Act grants, federal agency programs and industry prototyping support. • Workforce development and employee upskilling. • Exclusive networking events. • Access ASU Core Facilities and faculty experts. • Capability sharing with 150+ diverse hub members.
