Ross XPression CG Character Generator How-To Guide ​v.12.2020 Copies of various equipment manuals are available online at (​https://www.fcac.org/equipment-user-manuals​) -The Ross XPression program gives TV producers the option to create lower thirds, intro / outro elements, and various other graphics for studio A or B shows. It also provides the option of inserting these graphics on the spot as part of the studio recording session. -XPression workstations are available in control room A, control room B, the Kiosk area, and three stations in our classroom 1 lab. The XPression program has two working modes. -A ​Layout section (mode)​: This mode is used to create and modify graphics. -A ​Sequencer section (mode)​: This mode is used to play the graphics during the production. *Familiarize yourself with the Layout and Sequencer modes interfaces. Images of both are found at the end of this guide. Some of the key Layout mode interface highlights are: ● The Project Manager​: This window will allow you to create categories for your graphics or ​scenes​ as they are referred to in Xpression. ●

The Scene Manager​: This window allows you to create, organize and preview your new ​scenes​ and ​scene groups​.

Main Viewport ​: This window is where the currently selected scene will appear for editing.. Always remember that all graphics created in XPression are represented as being in a 3D space environment. The ​dot ​in this screen is the light source for the graphic. Do not delete.

Object Library: ​This window contains all of the basic elements that can be added to your scene e.g., primitive shapes, light sources, cameras.

Object Manager​: Here you’ll find all of the objects used in your selected scene.

Object Inspector:​ This is where you’ll be able change specific attributes of the selected object.

Note: When using the classroom 1 lab, the Preview window is located in the second left monitor. The following guide includes steps to create some basic images (Section 1). Followed by steps on how to use the sequencer mode (Section 2). Section 3 includes tips on how to insert your images in an actual studio A or B recording session.
