Thank you to Senior Management and to all colleagues involved in setting up the annual party; special thanks to those who waited on tables until the early hours of the morning, continuing with their ‘service with a smile’ attitude. Take a bow all of you – you did a fantastic job.

Thanks also to Chef Nicholas and his entire team who, as always, produced some excellent food. Thank you also to the Engineering Department and all other colleagues who do so much of the behind the scenes work but we rarely see them. I would like to say a special thank you to Dubai Golf Publishing department which is a very small team of highly talented graphic designers who work long hours producing magazines, flyers, backdrops, banners – they all seem to love what they do and they often spend extra hours doing it. The man who keeps everything ticking over is Ganesh Mangathil who is also an expert photographer and has produced some amazing photographs over the years. The incoming Vice-Captains for the 2019-2020 season were announced at the Members’ Party who are Boyd Edmondson and Naima Maya. Together with incoming Captains Ishu Rupani and Yana Jamieson, I think we will have two fun years ahead. Congratulations to you both - I’m sure you feel honoured to be selected and that you are looking forward to the next two seasons. Wishing you all the best.

Enjoy your golf and enjoy what’s left of the good weather.

Eugene Inso Sadly one of our graphic designers, Eugene Inso, is leaving the Club to spend time with his wife, Roel and daughters Carmel aged seven and new baby Ella, born in January. Eugene has been exceptional to work with on Club Life and I will definitely miss him. Eugene, wishing you all the very best for the future - I’m sure you will enjoy being with your family and seeing your daughters grow up.

The March weather has been unpredictable and unkind, especially on Wednesday 27th March, the date of our Members’ Party. As you will know by now, we had to postpone the party due to weather and host it the following evening on Thursday 28th March. We apologise for the late notice regarding the Wednesday cancellation; having consulted many weather forecasts, the conditions were supposed to improve from approximately 4:30pm, giving us enough time to prepare for the 7pm arrival of our guests. Unfortunately, a further storm hit just before 5pm and with 570 guests expected, the only solution was to postpone the annual gathering.

The feedback got me and the team thinking of what the three main pillars are to make Emirates Golf Club the best in the region… we came up with the facility, the service and you, our members If we start with the facility - we are thankful to wasl Asset Management under the Guidance of H.E Hesham Al Qassim (CEO of wasl) and Mustafa Al Hashimi (Chief Hospitality and Leisure officer, wasl) for the continued investment into the facility.

For those who were unable to make the Thursday, we promise to make next year’s gathering bigger and better! Moreover, for those of you who changed plans and booked last minute baby-sitters to join us on the Thursday, we are grateful and we hope that you had an enjoyable evening.

At this stage I think a thank-you is in order to our current Captains, Paul Byrne and Sulafa Hamdan who have done an exceptional job this season and have put every effort into making it an enjoyable time for us all. There are still a few months to go but it’s nearly ‘winddown’ time now!

Jacqui

“Sadly after nearly 10 years living and working in Dubai I am now heading back to the UK; my family and I have had a fantastic time here and I wanted to say that one of the high-lights for me has been being a member of the Emirates Golf Club. From the day I joined, the whole experience has been very memorable and something I will never forget. I am very unlikely to ever be a member of such a great golf club again. The level of service is exceptional and it is a real credit to everyone who makes the Club work; I will certainly miss Dubai but more so, Emirates Golf Club”

During the evening, we announced our Captains for the 2020/2021 season and I am de-lighted to confirm that Boyd Edmondson and Naima Maya will be our respective male and female Captains from 1st September 2020. Boyd will become our first South African Captain and Naima our first Syrian Lady Captain. To start the party, tradition dictates that I deliver a welcome speech and it seems I may have misled or confused a small number of members… to clarify I am not leaving Dubai and I am very much enjoying the challenge as Club Manager of the finest (and busiest) Club in the region! I have included below a copy of the speech to expel any confusion. Captain, Lady Captain, distinguished guests ladies and gentlemen! Good evening and welcome to the 31st Anniversary Members’ Party Before opening the buffet, I wanted to share some recent feedback from a member who had to leave Emirates Golf Club and head back home.

Recently we replaced the Faldo course floodlights with LED lights; this sustainable lighting system improves the overall quality of light across the golf course while enhancing energy savings by approximately 60 percent and drastically reducing CO2 emissions. The next project on the horizon is TOP GOLF and we expect this to open in the second quarter of 2020. It would be remiss of me not to mention our Carine restaurant. At the last members’ party, the restaurant was just about to open and I hope you agree that this has been a fabulous addition to the Club so a massive thank you to Carine, Chef Izu and the team. You may recall that earlier this year they won the BEST EUROPEAN restaurant in TIME OUT awards. Dubai Golf has also extended its portfolio with the management of Jumeirah Golf Estates since 1st October…and I hope some of you have enjoyed the increase in leisure options through this acquisition The next of the three pillars would be service and I would like to thank each and every one of the team for trying to meet, and in some cases, exceed your expectations day in day out. Bearing in mind the majority of the team only see their families once a year, I have always been proud of the level of commitment they demonstrate on a daily basis – a big thank you to them. The one pillar that our departing member missed off from his feedback was arguably the most important and that is you, the members. I recently went to a member’s

Birthday party and to see that over 80% of the guests were Emirates Golf Club members, highlights the family and community spirit that our great Club has to offer.

2

All Emirates Golf Club colleagues are thankful to you for being active members, for entering tournaments, for supporting social events and for your continuous engagement with the facility. We have recently seen examples of the membership’s concern for the welfare of colleagues and extended families … this simply doesn’t happen in many other clubs across the globe.

ger

What a great evening everyone had at the Members’ 31st Anniversary Party; after last year’s thirtieth year celebrations, it would have seemed rather low-key but, nevertheless, it was an excellent evening; despite the postponement from the Wednesday to the Thursday evening due to the inclement weather, many members turned out for the occasion.

Dear Members, I would like to start this month’s update by congratulating our new Junior Club Champions, Hugo Garcia Villalon and Amber Waite. Congratulations to you both! Further congratulations to Sulafa for staging a fabulous Lady Captain’s Day and well done to Yana and everyone involved in staging a superb performance honouring Sulafa’s year as Lady Captain. For those who missed it there was acting, singing and solo performances (Paul Byrne) that many an Oscar nominee would have been proud of!

EMIRATES GOLF CLUB SENIOR MANAGEMENT

Another recent example was evident during the Indian Invitational tournament when 160 plus members played and the committee (comprising Surender Kandhari, Rekha Bandopadhyay, Jayshree Gupta and Vipen Sethi) raised AED 27,000 for our junior colleagues. A big thank you to the committee and all who supported the event. For those of you who do not enter tournaments or support social events I encourage you to do so as I am confident that you will reap the rewards with the benefit of a wider community in Dubai! This is demonstrated by our ladies’ section, with 40 plus of them heading off to Vietnam later in May… a ladies’ section led by Sulafa that is the envy of all golf clubs in the region and beyond. In addition, Sulafa, Yana and the ladies raised over AED 80,000 during the Pink Ball Golf Day in support of Breast Cancer back in October. Another marvelous effort .. Thank you to all members for creating a community at Emirates Golf Club and for choosing to spend your precious leisure time with us! In this past year we saw large support from the membership at the Ramadan Tent, the PSA Finals, Football Central for the FIFA World Cup (when our South Korean contingent almost brought the house down following the 2-0 defeat of Germany!) and you helped us break records with 1300 guests at the New Year’s Eve extravaganza.. thank you! Finally thank you to Paul and Sulafa, who have epitomised the behaviour of passionate and active members in their roles as Captains. The Club is very grateful for your leadership this past season. Barney Coleman Club Manager

Dear all, Welcome to our April issue of Club Life and, as always, the Club is as busy as ever. March is gone and with it some very unusual weather. I have never seen such a mixed bag of rain and wind during the month which really showed on the scoring in some of our events. This weather affected our Members’ Party night which had to be delayed by 24 hours; well done to everyone at the Club who reorganised everything which can’t have been easy. As always a great night was had by all at the party and even though the numbers were slightly down, it was still rocking. The big announcement of the night was our new Vice-Captains. Congratulations to Naima and Boyd on their appointments - wonderful choices and great ambassadors to continue the Captains’ legacy. I had the pleasure of being invited to Lady Captain’s Day last month and what a day it was. Our ladies at Emirates Golf Club certainly know how to enjoy themselves on and off the course. Sulafa put a lot of work and effort into the day and I could see everyone totally enjoyed themselves.

MEN’S COMPETITION RESULTS

The water dunking machine proved to be a smash hit on the day with some very good target throwers hitting the bullseye and dropping the poor participants into the water...me being one of them more than once!! Well done to Sulafa on a wonderful day and a superb drive only contributed to the day and her relief… The IADC day was another huge event in which I was lucky to be a part for the two days. It is an awesome event with a presentation dinner on the lawn with around 1400 people in attendance. The entertainment on the night was world class with a laser fireworks display - the best I have ever seen. Well done to all involved. This month is as busy as always with some big competitions. The Hankook Greensomes is always a popular event played over two days with a huge field of players. Throw in a Medal, Porsche Senior Open and the Easter Scramble and you can see how busy the Club is. Best of luck to everyone playing during the month. The big event for me this month is my Captain’s Day on 26th April. I’m so looking forward to the day which will have an emphasis on the fun factor for all participants. There will be lots of activities on the course with

food and beverages to get the day rolling as well as on-course novelty events to drive the golfers crazy. The Captain’s dinner will be on the fantastic Majlis beside the eighth green with entertainment on the night from Paddyman. I hope to see as many of you on the day or evening. If you can’t make the golf please join us that evening. Best of luck to our Scratch League team captained by Mike Mezei who have reached the final and now have to play against Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. Bring home the trophy guys. A long traditional event takes place on 19th April with our members from Europe taking on North America in the Talker Cup. Best of luck to both teams who will be playing 36 holes over the Faldo and the Majlis courses.

Captain’s Message

Dear all, This month I have decided to just include my speech for my Lady Captain’s Day as it encapsulates everything. This is probably the last major speech I’ll make at the Club and I’ll let you in on a little secret…I definitely won’t be missing this part of the job. Seeing as I consider myself a novice at speechmaking, I have taken the liberty to start with the thank-yous, traditionally left to the end. “Begin with the important bits while you have everyone’s attention” is advice I have taken. Thank you to Chris, Barney and to wasl Asset Management for trusting me with this job and thanks also to Rhys, Cian and Jonathan for your daily support. I would like to say a special thank you to Jonathan Craddock for coaching our ladies’ beginners’ group on Tuesday mornings during my Vice-Captaincy. Thank you to Stephen, for still trying to fix the bugs in my game and to Falcon for setting the standards so high for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic this year. It has been an honour to get to know our colleagues who come into contact with members and guests on a daily basis and also to those who work seamlessly, unseen and unheard, without us really knowing, to make our life at the Club so very enjoyable. I would like to specially mention the team at the Club’s entrance, our security team, who greet us every morning with those wonderful welcoming smiles. Thank you to Chef Nicholas, Chef Dayan and team for the incredible food we enjoy every day, especially on Mondays; likewise to Steen, Jaco and your team for our welcome drinks and the continuous support for all of our events Thanks to Janice and team at reception for greeting us with your incredible smiles every day; to Ummer, Jega and team as our days would not be the same without you - you definitely make us feel very special; to Francis and the Reservations team who struggle to fit us all on the busy courses. Thanks to our unseen soldiers… Pansy, Will and the Sales & Marketing team; to Mar Ann, Jennifer, Candy, Gina, Haris and team who all work so hard behind closed doors; to Ganesh and team at Dubai Golf Publishing who are always so keen to help out; to the engineering team; to Matt and the Golf Course Maintenance team. Thank you to Martha for the great effort you put in to keep the ladies’ section always entertained with the frequent ladies’ nights out; to Jacqui for always keeping us informed about the happenings here at the Club with the monthly Club Life magazine.

I would like to say a special thank you to Nishanti without whom almost nothing would be possible at Emirates Golf Club. Finally, thank you to the ladies for your continuous support; to Najla and Maura for all your help this season and to Jayshree for all your help last year for Najla’s Captain’s Day; to the ladies who have been rehearsing and preparing the entertainment to make my night special, a big thank you!! Paul Byrne - thank you for being a fun Captain. I only discovered who you were the day we were both announced as incoming Vice-Captains. I had never seen you before and I had never heard of you but what a discovery it has been and a good one at that; indeed. I could not have wished to partner any other Captain this year... thank you for making it a fun and a happy year. Thank you to Paul’s wife Aisling for your husband! I am giving him back to you. Good luck for next year. On to our sponsors - thank you to Scott McPherson and Keltic Golf, and to Paul Byrne for your generous support of my prizes; to Abdul Fattah Sharaf, Tom Luig and HSBC for making the day more special with today’s Nike shirts and caps. Thank you to IXSIR and Kefraya who made me very proud to show off the Lebanese wines flowing throughout the day – we have all enjoyed Ixsir wine on the course and tonight our tables are flowing with Chateau Kefraya… a little bit of Lebanon off the Sheikh Zayed Road tonight. Here is to the non-golfing friends who have released me for two years and supported me in making this job possible….to Joumana for whom I made life miserable because of my Captaincy...I will be back to being a full-time friend very soon; to Sharmila, the one who keeps me young and puts a dance step in my walk - thank you for being by my side tonight; to Rania, my early morning chatty friend, thank you for making it tonight and to Alan for keeping me fit and strong enough to keep it all together throughout the season. Of course thank you to the only person who is of critical importance in both my golfing and my everyday life, Adel…the reason I started to play and the greatest support I could ever have wished for. Thank you. Thank you for listening to all my thank-yous. Now, I’ll move on to my speech I’d like to welcome you all to my own Silk Road-themed night, where east and west meet on this memorable day. The Silk Road was the first commercial link between China and Europe and it was used to exchange goods and ideas between cultures. Along this road, stood my tiny country, know at that time as Phoenicia and today it’s called Lebanon. The Phoenicians became skilled traders of their time,

celebrating and learning from the different cultures they encountered. Unfortunately these ideas did not stand the test of time and almost 2000 years later, by the time I was born, my country was ravaged by war. Lebanon became a place that was intolerant to differences, to different religions, political affiliations and opinions. I lived in Lebanon throughout our various wars and ended up learning quite the contrary of what they wanted us to become. I learned that we are all equal whatever our opinions and whatever our religious or our social status are. These differences actually enrich our lives and these very differences are what we all enjoy here in our own melting pot at the Club, a celebration of 60 or more nationalities who call Emirates Golf Club home and family. My journey into golf began when I moved to Dubai in 1995; I took a weekly lessons at the Creek Golf & Yacht Club with a lovely Scottish Pro called Paul Lightbody. At the time, my English was poor, his Scottish accent was complicated to me, and everything he taught me was lost in translation. It’s no surprise that Stephen is probably still fixing some of the things I learned – or didn’t - from that era. Years on, with my game slightly improved, I gained more than just golfing skills. This has been my very own personal Silk Road, a road that’s been instrumental in forming the person I have be-come. Becoming Lady Captain was a challenge for which I was ready. I knew that I had to put two years of my life on hold. I pushed that pause button when my son Ian was 12 years old, and now I am pushing the play button just at the right time to find that I have a 14-year old teenager to manage. Before I became Lady Captain I was given some very useful advice along the lines of not trying to change the world, not to take things too personally and to accept that you can never please everyone. A great man and dear friend told me to just be myself and that is what I have tried to be. Yana, our future Lady Captain, thank you for being by my side all through this year. If I were to create a virtual Lady Captain’s survival kit it would include the following: earplugs, note book for the good and bad ideas that pop up at 3am, Melatonin to get you back to sleep, a cookery book and an apron for your husband, a massage to get you pampered before you take up this role. This task was handed to me by Najla in the form of a healthy tree with deep roots and fresh leaves - I simply had to water it with love, sunshine and laughter. Yana, I am passing on this fabulous tree to you. Please cherish it. Sulafa Hamdan Lady Captain 2018-2019

The 27th edition of Indian Invitational Golf Tournament saw 176 golfers compete for the champions’ trophy on Friday 8th March 2019. The tournament format was an 18-hole shamble on the Faldo and Majlis courses - 9 holes on the Majlis and 9 holes on the Faldo, with 3/4 handicap index. In the spirit of true community, there were over 60 raffle prizes that were donated by Indian and non-Indian members, Pros, Junior and Senior colleagues of Emirates Golf Club as well as corporate contributors - BMW (AGMC), Al Dobowi, Air India, and Orient Travel. Other supporters were Nandos, Al Kabeer, Chivas and Cruxton Travel. Cash contributors were Rajesh Verma, Amresh Sanggani, Vijay Devnani, Vipin Sethi, Anand Lakhiani, Paryank Shah, Partap Lalwani and Dinesh Kothari. Without this tremendous support, the Indian Committee could have not successfully staged this ever-popular golf tournament which has become well known for its cash gift to the Club’s junior colleagues. Indian committee members Surender Kandhari, Rekha Bandopadhyay and Jayshree Gupta handed over the AED 27,000 raffle ticket sales to Ummer and Nishanthi who were representing their colleagues. Mr. Surender Kandhari thanked Emirates Golf Club for the fantastic organisation of the tournament, all the contributors and supporters and also to the Indian Committee members Vipen, Rekha and Jayshree for working on this tournament every year.

SPOTLIGHT ON

Vedant Pal Boys Champion:

My name is Vedant Pal and I am an 11-year old from Toronto, Canada. I have lived in Dubai for the past 10 years, and it is here that I started playing golf at the age of five. My introduction to golf was accompanying my dad to the course but golf has now become something I am very passionate about and I aspire to become a PGA player. I have played numerous courses in many countries but perhaps the course I enjoy playing most is my home course, Emirates Golf Club. The Majlis course in particular, is one of my favourites because it never fails to challenge me. The fifth hole sure is a tricky one for me, as along the left side there are sloped mounds and trees, often resulting in a difficult lie if a golfer finds himself there.

For me, golf is more than just a game. It has taught me many life skills as well as having given me many incredible experiences; I have learned the importance of having the right frame of mind before every game and that is something I try to have each time I play. I have learned to keep my mind on the game even when it isn’t going my way, and I try to focus on what I can do to improve rather than to panic or be angry. One question I often get asked is, “Who is your favourite golfer?” While everyone has their unique playing styles, I think Tommy Fleetwood is definitely one of my favourites. In fact, one memorable moment at Emirates Golf Club for me was the time I ran into Tommy Fleetwood at the clubhouse! I like

him because he takes the time to analyse the playing environment right from the set up and he pays attention to position and alignment, things that many take for granted.

Hugo Garcia-Villalon

As a proud member of the Junior Elite Programme, I train six days a week. When I’m not training I’m either playing local or international tournaments or teeing off with my friends… while enjoying the food huts; it sure is the ultimate pleasure picking up a caesar wrap before a fun game. Sometimes my sister jokes about how I should just pitch a tent and start camping out on the course. However, when you love the game, it’s hard to imagine a day without playing!

Train the movement!

This month we’ll look at a great drill to to help encourage a better body action. As you all know the golf swing is a 3D (three dimensional ) movement with the elements of up/down, lateral and rotation all playing a role. To move the club consistently through

good positions rather than trying to create positions, we have to encourage a spiral motion. Unfortunately too many students get caught up trying to move the club into what looks like good positions on camera without letting the correct body action to do this for them.

They get caught up in a find it lose it scenario with no real consistency between practice sessions and on-course play. This simple palm down drill will help encourage the correct motion and feelings for consistency, balance and a powerful pressured delivery of the club.

The front nine offers a par-3 with an island green while the closing holes are built around a quarry and a large lake with massive rock formations. Strategy is the key to successfully negotiating the course, which can play very differently depending on the tees you play from. Golfers can choose to play from six different tees – Gold, Black, Blue, White, Red and Yellow.

The Arnold Palmer course at the DLF Golf & Country Club was opened in 1999, and is the first AP signature course in the country. The DLF Golf Academy is the first professional golf school in the country. The Academy was opened in 1999 and over the last decade and a half has been instrumental in providing golf instruction to most of the DLF Golf Club members, juniors, corporates and to many top amateurs and professionals in the country. A panel of highly trained instructors teach golf in a structured manner, yet cater to needs of every individual golfer. The instructors recognise that students learn golf for a variety of reasons and the pace of learning is unique to each student. Programs are designed to suit all levels of golfers. The Academy has a panel of six highly qualified golf instructors. All instructors are certified by the National Golf Academy of India, and come with more than 15 years of teaching experience. THE NEW RULES OF GOLF Rules from the Tour…

Omega Dubai Desert Classic… Lucas Herbert’s ball lay in a waste area on hole 8 when he removed some leaves from behind the ball with his club, which he was entitled to do, but he also scraped away sand in the process, improving his lie in breach of Rule 8.1a as a result.

Sand is not a loose impediment, so cannot be removed or pressed down around the ball if it leads to an improvement in the conditions affecting the stroke. Herbert could have carefully handpicked the leaves away from around the ball, and if some sand had moved in the process then actions such as this would be considered reasonable.

Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship… (using

the rules to your advantage) One ruling at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship involved Branden Grace who was playing from a sandy waste area. Grace was intending to chip out sideways towards the fairway which was reasonable in the circumstances, given that the ball was behind a large rock between him and the green and heading back to the tee under stroke and distance was not a desirable option.

However, when Herbert used his club to remove the leaves it resulted in much more sand than would be considered reasonable being removed from around the ball, meaning that the conditions affecting the stroke had been improved.

1MEMBER 2 GUEST 3

Playing the sideways stroke meant that Grace had interference from an immovable irrigation hose, meaning that he was entitled to relief under Rule 16.1b. After taking relief from the hose, Grace was then able to change the direction of his stroke and play towards the green, permissible under the Rules.

SPECIAL LOCAL RULE ON THE FALDO COURSE

FLOODLIGHTS - NEW RULE If a ball strikes a floodlight pole, the stroke MUST be cancelled and replayed without penalty (Rule 14.6) If the ball is not immediately recoverable, another ball may be substituted.

If you have any rules queries that you would like to discuss over the coming weeks then please do not hesitate to ask on your next visit to the club or simply Email your query to rjames@dubaigolf.com

GREENKEEPER’S CUTTINGS Well, it’s been a strange month weatherwise with a combination of wind, rain, cloud and cold conditions. We are expecting the temperatures to rise in the coming month which means that we are close to transition on the golf courses. This has been explained in the past but a new communication will be going out from me regarding this and what actually happens during this process . April will be a busy month for the team on the Faldo course as we have the first Moonlight Classic, a Ladies European tour event, from 1st to 3rd May. We will be doing a lot of detail jobs on this course so, more than likely, you will see more colleagues out there getting it up to the standard expected for a professional event. We are very much looking forward to it as the Faldo has been getting some great feedback of late and we can’t wait to showcase it. The Majlis course has continued to do very well and the Rye grass is still performing. We have lowered heights of cut so the transition process can start but with this cooler weather and rain it hasn’t really started as of yet. Ongoing work around some greens is happening as the stress of the winter and mowing routines has caused some areas to die - these are currently being turfed. Recently we presented our Long Service Awards to our junior colleagues, many of whom have completed 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service here at Dubai Golf. One of our team, who collected his 25 year award, was Lizandro Yambao. He is our Landscape Foreman and he is in charge of all landscape

areas around the whole property which can include golf course, car park and clubhouse. Congratulations to him and to the rest of the Golf Course Maintenance junior colleagues who received their awards. We are very much looking forward to the month ahead with another tournament preparation and we do hope

you enjoy the courses while this weather is still very good. Happy Golfing Matthew Perry Golf Course Superintendent

Exercise Tip Of The Month by Christopher Mallet

THE BOX SQUAT The box squat allows you to squat to desired depth and develop explosive strength in the squat movement. Typically, you would aim for a box height that brings you to a parallel squat, but you can train higher or lower if desired. Begin by stepping under the bar and placing it across the back of the shoulders. Squeeze your shoulder blades together and rotate your elbows forward, attempting to bend the bar across your shoulders. Remove the bar from the rack, creating a tight arch in your lower back, and step back into position. Place your feet wider for more emphasis on the back, glutes, adductors, and hamstrings, or closer to-gether for more quad development. Keep your head facing forward. With your back, shoulders, and core tight, push your knees and butt out and you begin your descent. Sit back with your hips until you are seated on the box. Ideally, your shins should be perpendicular to the ground. Pause when you reach the box, and relax the hip flexors. Never bounce off of a box.

WEIGHTLOSS YOGA 20:15 - 21:15

Keeping the weight on your heels and pushing your feet and knees out, drive upward off the box as you lead the movement with your head. Continue upward, maintaining tightness head to toe. Why is this important for your golf swing? The ability to transfer your weight effectively through a strong set of glutes will help to increase your power and also offload any unnecessary pressure from the lower back. Should you need any help performing this exercise feel free to visit me at Fit Lab.

Who is Margaret Dabbs?

and cuticles) are dry in both Standard and Supreme.

Margaret is a celebrated podiatrist and foot expert who founded her first foot clinic in London in 1998 in private consulting rooms in the Harley Street area of Central London. She went on to create the Margaret Dabbs London brand to include foot clinics with nail spas across the UK and internationally with her Fabulous Hands and Feet Product range sold at some of the world’s most iconic retailers including Harrods and Level Shoe District. She pioneered, the now world renowned, dry Medical Pedicure which we exclusively offer at Project Beauty

Margaret Dabbs at Project Beauty By using a medically certified protocol and products, Project Beauty ensures the safest, most effective dry manicures and pedicures around! All products during Project Beauty manicure/pedicure are medical grade and we do not use any unbranded lotions and serums! With a truly amazing range of treatments and products that are low irritability, anti-inflammatory and antifungal – each product is formulated to work effectively on the skin to treat common hand and feet conditions. This means each of our manicures/ pedicures are not just a glam service but a treatment that will obtain maximum results! All our experienced technicians have undergone intensive training with the Margaret Dabbs team to ensure the best results!

Does a dry manicure and not soaking mean it is more of an express treatment? No, not at all! Quite the opposite – our manicure/pedicure treatment is a comprehensive procedure and it is, in fact, safer, more luxurious and more effective due to the protocols being developed by a doctor! We treat the hand dry to ensure we can more clearly see and remove dry skin, without damaging healthy skin which can cause more harm to them in the future! We do offer a supreme option that involves a soak but the treatment phase (of nail

Reasons why we do a dry manicure & pedicure?

Margaret Dabbs (MD) Supreme Pedicure (1hr 15mins) AED 140 This is the ultimate pedicure which starts off dry so that nails and hard skin can be treated effectively with MD pedicure protocol and nail and cuticle serum. The nails and cuticle work are performed and the nails are treated with intense treatment oil (nails will be gleaming). Hard/dry skin is filed with a special file using crushed crystal technology. The feet are then treated to an exfoliating mousse containing volcanic pumice and tea tree oil. They are then soaked, giving you time to unwind with a cup of tea or coffee to then enjoy an extensive leg and foot massage with the wonderful intensive moisturising properties of the foot lotion. Feet are then painted with a polish of your choice.

SUMMER BODY CONFIDENCE AT SENSASIA URBAN SPA

POLISH LASTS LONGER

SensAsia Urban Spa has a whole host of powerful, targeted and results-driven treatments to smooth, tighten and tone your summer body – equally effective for both men and women.

When you soak your nails, they absorb water and expand. To then paint the nails while they were still semi-swollen from the water would mean that when they dry and contract back, the polish is more prone to chipping. Not soaking the nails ensures that the manicure lasts longer.

The multi award-winning spa’s expertly-curated ‘SensConscious’ treatment selection allows clients to focus on their own, unique and specific problem areas, such as the arms, abdomen, hips and thighs, using intense massage and purifying clay to break down fatty deposits, improve circulation and visibly tighten those ‘wobbly bits’ that summer often lures from hiding.

REDUCES CUTICLE ISSUES

SensAsia’s summer body series also includes detoxifying and toning treatments for the total body, using natural active ingredients including green tea, coffee, cocoa and guarana extract to exfoliate, cleanse, purify and ‘wake up’ the skin, while massage techniques stimulate blood flow and improve overall texture.

The typical soaking plumps your cuticles during the manicure, making it more difficult to notice dry skin around your cuticles that may need to be trimmed. Lotion instead of water keeps your nails and cuticles clean and dry to better protect your nail beds for overall healthy nails. HYGIENIC! Dry is also more hygienic as we use only sterilised products on closed pores! Price: Manicure: Pedicure:

AED 90 AED 100

So, how is Supreme different? The Supreme is a more spa like, luxurious treatment that gives your hands and feet that little extra bit of pampering as well as addressing very dry, cracked skin! The total treatment time is one hour and 15minutes but the treatment phase is still dry!

Result: It’s like walking on clouds!

Margaret Dabbs Supreme Manicure (1hr) AED 140 The signature manicure provides noticeable results after just one treatment. The creams and serums used are extremely hydrating and nourishing for both skin and nails. The scent of geranium and mandarin are soothing and relaxing. Nails and cuticles are treated, worked and shaped before the skin is exfoliated and an intensive hand lotion (a must for any handbag) is used to perform an extensive arm and hand massage and a colour of your choice from our wide range completes your time out! Hands are transformed!

FROM THE KITCHEN OF CHEF NICHOLAS CUOMO

Paul Bocuse (pronounced [pol bokyz]; 11th February 1926 – 20th January 2018, was a French chef based in Lyon who was known for the high quality of his restaurants and his innovative approaches to cuisine. A student of Eugénie Brazier, he was one of the most prominent chefs associated with the nouvelle cuisine, which is less opulent and calorific than the traditional cuisine classique, and stresses the importance of fresh ingredients of the highest quality. Paul Bocuse claimed that Henri Gault first used the term, nouvelle cuisine, to describe food prepared by Bocuse and other top chefs for the maiden flight of Concorde airliner in 1969.

Contributions to French Gastronomy Bocuse made many contributions to French gastronomy both directly and indirectly because he had numerous students, many of whom have become notable chefs themselves. One of his students was Austrian, Eckart Witzigmann, one of four Chefs of the Century and chef at the first German restau-rant to receive three Michelin stars. Since 1987, the Bocuse d’Or has been regarded as the most prestigious award for chefs in the world (at least when French food is considered), and is sometimes seen as the unofficial world championship for chefs. Bocuse received numerous awards throughout his career including the medal of Commandeur de la Légion d’honneur. The Culinary Institute of America honoured Bocuse in their Leadership Awards Gala on 30 March 2011. He received the ‘Chef of the Century’ award. In July 2012, the Culinary Institute of America announced in the New York Times that they would change the name of their Escoffier Restaurant to the Bocuse Restaurant, after a year-long renovation. In 1975, he created soupe aux truffes (truffle soup) for a presidential dinner at the Élysée Palace. Since then, the soup has been served in Bocuse’s restaurant near Lyon as Soupe V.G.E., VGE being the initials of former presi-dent of France Valéry Giscard d’Estaing.

It is a luxury establishment near Lyon which has been serving a traditional menu for decades. It is one of only 27 restaurants in France to receive a three-star rating in 2017 by the Michelin Guide. He also operated a chain of brasseries in Lyon, named Le Nord, l’Est, Le Sud and l’Ouest, each of which specialises in a different aspect of French cuisine. Farewell to Fay d’Abo Last month some of the ladies got together to bid farewell to Fay d’Abo, Past Captain and founder member of Emirates Golf Club. They enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Carine restaurant when Fay was presented with a beautiful Chanel brooch bought by the ladies. Fay and her husband Philip will still be visiting Dubai from time to time so we look forward to seeing her then. From Fay….Thank you all so much for the wonderful lunch today and to those of you who couldn’t make it - we missed you! I was completely overwhelmed by the beautiful gift which I simply love. I really will always treasure it and it will remind me of the wonderful friends I’m leaving behind at Emirates Golf Club where I’ve spent so many happy years. It was so generous and so thoughtful and I do appreciate all the thought that went into it. The lunch was really lovely and it was such fun to catch up with everyone - just like old times. I know we won’t lose touch because I’ll come back to visit - all you lovely ladies who’ve been my friends for so long. I’ll miss you.
