OUR MISSION STATEMENT JAZZ AT THE BALLROOM is committed to keeping swinging, classic jazz thriving, sharing this extraordinary American art form with the greater public and providing audiences with one-of-a-kind experiences. We work with the world’s most talented jazz musicians in intimate and unique settings and focus on the Great American Songbook and the timeless elegance the music embraces. Beyond our concerts, we share this incredible art form through our workshops and special events at schools, hospitals, and senior living communities. Through these efforts, we keep unforgettable jazz standards alive and foster a love of music in future generations.

LETTER FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 2022 was a year of phenomenal music although, as I write this in mid-2023, I hesitate to expound on that. The proceeding pages will share details of what we accomplished in 2022, all of which I’m very proud. But it was how we began the year that was the most memorable. In early March, we presented two fundraiser concerts to raise money for the International Rescue Committee. Like many people and organizations, we wanted to do something to help the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. For us, that came in the form of music. And what better music than that from Konrad Paszkudzki’s concert My Ordinary Family? It told the true story of his family living in Lvov during the Second World War. We had presented in back in 2018 but the story was too meaningful not to share again. With the help of friends and colleagues, we secured venues in Los Angeles and San Francisco and enlisted the talents of Samara Joy, Carmen Bradford, Olivia Chindamo, Pasquale Grasso, Dylan Shamat, Graham Dechter, Ryan Shaw, and Alex Frank. The two concerts raised almost $25,000 for the IRC and were a beautiful example of how the arts can educate, inspirit, and have a meaningful impact.

LETTER FROM ARTISTIC DIRECTOR It was another year of swingin’ jazz! 2022 was a breakout year for JATB. With the tail wind of Covid behind everyone’s backs, we were able to soar and reach new heights on the national level. The outreach programming in the Bay Area continued to expand and grow and it keeps proving how much of a commodity the organization is in the area. People’s lives are changed because of this work, and it will forever be an integral part of the Jazz at the Ballroom model. Aside from this, concerts across the country showcasing the pioneering artistry of the JATB artist roster were received with incredible acclaim. This helped cement JATB as a leading force in the world of jazz, the American Songbook and world class concert production. Having this sort of recognition in the Bay Area is one thing, but filling houses like the Kennedy Center in D.C., Skirball Center in Los Angeles, Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, and California Center for the Arts in Southern California, Chelsea Table & Stage in NY, and others proves that the quality of JATB productions are unparalleled and the mission of sharing this great art form with all aspects of the community, supporting the world’s greatest musicians and keeping the music alive and thriving is all in a day’s work at JATB. Jazz is alive and well and JATB plays a key role in this, now on a NATIONAL level! Konrad Paszkudzki, Artistic Director

OUTREACH IN THE COMMUNITY

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AND OUTREACH We had a phenomenal group of musicians as judges for our Scholarship Program this year: Pasquale Grasso, Konrad Paszkudzki, Andrew Speight, Terell Stafford, and Katie Thiroux. The three high school students who won received $500 each to further their music studies and the music departments at their respective schools were awarded $500 each. All students who applied to the program were invited to take part in student workshops with our judges. The Scholarship winners also joined us throughout the year to play with us in our community outreach concerts. We were able to expand our outreach this year to over ten senior living facilities throughout the Bay Area, as well as Mills Peninsula Hospital and the Mental Health Association of San Mateo County. This included several concerts over the holidays.
