ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE concert program

Page 1

JULY 2 - PITTSBURGH, PA

THE STORY

Accentuate the Positive is the perfect way to celebrate Fourth of July weekend and America's 250th birthday. In 1944, Bing Crosby turned Johnny Mercer's “Accentuate the Positive” into a national hit. More than just a catchy tune, it became a reminder to find hope during one of the most challenging periods in American history. That spirit is at the heart of this joyful concert.

Featuring timeless songs from the Great American Songbook, Accentuate the Positive brings to life the music that carried Americans through the Great Depression and World War II. These were the songs heard on radios, danced to in ballrooms, sung around family pianos, and broadcast to troops overseas. They offered comfort, laughter, romance, and reassurance when people needed them most.

Today, those songs still have something to say. In a world that often feels noisy and disconnected, they remind us to slow down, gather together, and enjoy the simple pleasure of live music. Whether you're discovering these classics for the first time or hearing old favorites again, you'll leave humming the melodies and feeling just a little lighter.

Welcome to an evening of unforgettable tunes that prove every generation can use a little optimism.

After all, some messages never go out of style.
