LASMULAS By Claire Gillen (Grade 4)
Las Mulas is a great place to go during summer break. It is an awesome camp full of new adventures. I went with some of my friends from Nido and so it was even more fun since many of us knew each other. Everyday after you wake up at Las Mulas, you have a delicious breakfast of pancakes or french toast. After that we would do a morning activity or game. Next, you go and sign up for activities. They have horseback riding, arts and crafts, fort building, and much more. I chose horseback riding the first day, and my group was lucky enough to see these adorable puppies during our ride. After your activity you have lunch. Next is a break before you head to the refreshing river water. Sometimes we went to the river closest to us, and sometimes a short hike to other parts of the river or a swimming hole. The river has a very cool rock that is shaped like a slide. We all enjoy afternoon snacks including watermelon and cookies. Next is a game like dodgeball. You don?t have to do it though. We have have delicious dinners at Las Mulas too. After dinner when the sun goes down, we have night games that we do in the dark with headlamps. My cabin was pretty good at those (not to brag or anything) :) Sometimes there are s'mores to eat around a campfire. Finally you go off to your cabin for bed around 10:00 or 10:30pm. On the last day of camp there is a talent show. The talent show left me laughing, very, very hard. Las Mulas is located in natural beauty with rolling hills, waterfalls, and the river. I had an amazing time there. If you want to experience a new adventure, you should sign up for Camp Las Mulas! I highly recommend it.

LUCASFORPRESIDENT By Lucas (Grade 3B)- Adapted from a speech he wrote for a third grade leadership and community simulation.
People, think about how would you like your new president. Just think? .You are looking at your next president. Want a change, then believe. Hi,here is Luca Riveros and I?m going for the executive branch and I?m the best candidate for president. I?m going to be president because I want to veto bills and be a good leader for the country. Firstly, I will be really confident. For example, I had to be the main character of a show that I had to be a bee and worst of all I had to cry that is why I was confident. Secondly, I can be responsible to veto bills or not. For example, when I had to design the trees of the town we have in class, I did what I had to do. It was really boring, but I stuck with it and also I did all the work I had to do. Lastly, I?m caring. For example, when I was 7 years old I saw a poor boy crying for money and I almost cried of sadness and another day I was trying to find the poor boy but I could not find him. Another day I had a dream that I was the poor boy and I felt so sad about the poor boy. Also, I will put a water company for the country and it is going to be really big. Next, I will put more roads to make more streets. I will put more streets also for more houses and more companies. Hope your guys already decided who is your new president. Want a change, then believe.
You Give CPR By Agustin Mejia (Grade 2) The peacock is on its last breath, but you give a pump to its chest. It does not work! The peacock is not breathing! So you squish the peacock?s chest with all your might. The ring goes flying out out its beak and lands on Darcy?s foot. Suddenly, the peacock is back on its feet, rushes over, and grabs the ring in its beak. You pull the ring. You pull and pull at the ring and suddenly it comes loose from the beak and goes flying above your head. A dog goes running by and it leaps at the ruby ring. The dog grabs the ring in its mouth and he flickers away like a zap of light. Just at that moment, you turn and see your teacher coming to collect you. TELL YOUR TEACHER YOU FOUND THE RING By Ana Sofia (Grade 2) You are one of the first students to get off the bus and now you will have to wait awhile for the other students to climb off the bus too. You decide to look around while you wait for the others. While you were looking around you glance at a beautiful red ruby ring hiding beneath the trash. You quietly sneak over to the bushes without anyone noticing. You pick it up and you decide you want to tell your best friend Emilia what you found. Then you tell Emilia, ?After thinking about it I think we should tell the teacher we found the ring.? A few minutes later, you tell the teacher the whole story and she congratulates you for your integrity. You smile with pride, however, just that second, you see an old women rushing up to you in a panic, looking for the ring. The old lady tells you with tears in her eyes, ?I lost a beautiful ring in front of a bus and it disappeared when I looked for it. By any chance have you seen it?? Then you gaze down at the ring and realize that the ring the old lady was looking for was the one that had found beneath the trash. Then you show the ring to the old lady and you see that all of the tears she had on her face were gone. Then she thanks you and decides to give you a reward for giving her the ring. Now the only question is, will you accept the reward or not? If you keep the reward, turn to pg. 22 If you spend the reward on ice cream, turn to pg. 7

Jacob answers, ?I would rather get frozen in a block of ice.? Suddenly the bus stops, you are jostled in your seat. The bus driver yells, ?We?re here! Welcome to Los Dominicos!? Everyone gets out of the bus. As you walk away from the bus, you happen to see a glittery flash in a bush to your left. You creep over and pick up a ruby ring lying beneath a leafy branch. You look left and then you look right. No one is looking, so you put it in your pocket.

An im als an d Nat u r e In this piece, I thought that I could tell you about an adventure where my horse goes through the first year of life from her perspective. She is going to start by telling you her name and then continue telling you her life beginning with her birth. My name is Tormenta. I am a foal. That's right a baby horse. I was born on October 9, 2015, at 12:30 in the night. The first thing I saw when I was born were weird flashes of light. I saw five pairs of eyes darting up and down my silky body. I thought that they were my owner's eyes and her friends.I also saw my mother's feet. Looking up I saw her midnight black eyes. I realised that the eyes where my owners eyes and her friends. The first thing I smelled and felt was warm hair on my mother?s stomach. I also saw two yellow-maned girls chattering excitedly, seeming to discuss what I should be called. I saw these girls every day, and they would bring me applesauce when they gave my mother apples. They would also let me out to play, but mostly they liked to touch my fuzzy coat. After being in this place for a while, on one bright, sunny, and warm day, my mother got led into a truck. I wanted to follow my mother, but I was hesitant to go in. When they finally lured me in, the truck started to move. I looked at my

mother with big frightened eyes. My mother stood there relaxed and settled, casually standing there in her aisle. Once in awhile there would be a bump that startled me and sometimes my mother. When we finally arrived I saw meadows of lush green grass and lots of other horses! There were other young horses there with their mothers, but they were all bigger than me! I was the only pony! We lived there for a while as well, learning to get along with the other horses. I drank my mother?s milk, and eventually got big enough teeth I could eat grass like everyone else. The yellow-maned girl visited me there, too, and now instead of applesauce, she could bring me actually apples! After what seemed like forever, we went in the truck again and I had to wonder where we were going this time. After a long drive, we arrived at a new place. There were other horses, dogs, cats, and even a bird! I was happy for about a month until my mother left. I was depressed for about week but after that I wasn't depressed because I was having so much fun with my new horse friends. Also, the yellow-maned girl visited me here, too! She came the day my mother left, to give me apples and hugs. One of the things I learned is that my owner was always there for me and was there when I most needed her. So just remember a horse's life can be as fun as a human or more fun. They also have emotions. So that is the adventure of my foal?s life. 6
Spor t s
UNKNOWNSPORTS Gabriela Gomez (grade 5) Soccer, basketball, football, probably sports you have usually seen in the Talon. But this time you are going to read about sports you probably think are fake, but they are not. Wife carrying a sport you are gonna learn about. Be prepared to learn about sports you probably didn?t even know existed, so have an open mind and read on! ShinKicking Where it is played = England How to Play: You're grabbing your opponent's shoulders and he/ she is holding yours. You are getting ready to feel some extreme pain. You feel the hay stuffed in your socks and you hope that it will be enough protection. You hear the whistle and the game begins, right away you start feeling your shins burning like the sun. Can you guess what sport it is? It is shin kicking! Shin kicking is exactly how it sounds like. The rules are very simple. You play rounds until there finally is a winner. Two people play against each other, they kick each other in the shins until finally one of them can't stand up anymore and falls. Then again the winner plays against someone else. It is a very painful sport. Imaging being kicked in the shin until finally you can't stand up anymore. But if you are the winner, you have to go through the pain again! There is also no protection!
YOU Share Ice Cream with Everyone By Joaquin Donaldson (Grade 2) You receive 300.000 pesos and you say ?I'm gonna buy ice cream for everyone!? You buy all different flavors including vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream and strawberry. While everyone is enjoying their ice creams, a second grade classroom from Craighouse School arrive and they see you and all the Nido students with ice creams. The Craighouse students are licking their lips wanting to have the cold, yummy ice cream. Immediately you buy ice creams for them too! A few minutes later, CNN and BBC News comes to interview you about your kindness and generosity since you bought ice cream for about 300 people, including students from Craighouse you don?t even know. The reporter says, ?We?re here in Los Dominicos with the hero of the day. How did you do it?? ?Well, I saw the ring in the bushes, I darted to pick up this ruby red ring. A few minutes after I picked up this gorgeous ring an old lady with tears in her eyes saw that I had her ring. She said, "Thank you for finding my expensive ring, as a reward I am giving you 300.000 pesos.? That evening you watch CNN news and you are on TV. You smile and realize what a great field trip it had been to Los Dominicos.
THE END
Except for hay stuffed in your socks. Just to make sure there aren't any serious injuries, the players play with soft shoes. But even so, people still get very hurt.

Ski Bobbing Where it is played = Switzerland
Wife Carrying Where it is played = Finland and North America Competitions are held every year, they don?t have to be legally married but they have to have a whole lot of teamwork. The man has to run 254 meters, going through sand, water or simply just running to try to win! This is one of the weirdest sports in existence, it is wife carrying! The sport consists of the man running an obstacle course of 254 meters carrying his wife or partner. Competitors run two at a time, with each team being timed. They look at all the times and the top 2 run against each other, sometimes being timed and others not. To make sure the wife doesn?t get injured, in the championships, helmets are required. Also, in the championships, women have to weigh less than 49 kilograms. There are limitless ways to carry the woman, some of the most famous ones are piggyback and Fireman's Carry (over the shoulder). But the most common one is Estonian carry (wife hangs upside down with legs around the husband?s neck).
Biking and skiing, who doesn?t like those sports. Well someone thought they were so amazing that they combined both of them. A bicycle with no wheels but instead a ski on the bottom! Imagine ?biking? down a snow mountain at full speed. That is ski bobbing, a bicycle combined with a ski. Amazing, right? There are also competitions. The speed record for now is 120 miles per hour! There are different types of ski bobbing, one is called boardbikes. First of all there is the traditional type where it is the bike with foot skies. Then there is the Boardbikes. This is based on a snowboard instead of a ski. So the wheels of the bike are replaced by a snowboard. There is also the Extreme or ?other? type of ski bobbing. This is where you can be creative and it includes anything that not does not fit into the Traditional and Boardbike category. These bikes are often homemade or modified. In ski bobbing there are also competitions very similar to normal skiing. There are gates and the races are timed. Ski bobbing is a weird sport but it seems fun all the same! Can you believe these are real sports? It?s amazing isn?t it? It must be so much fun and a great experience to play one of those sports. Now that you know how unique some sports are, maybe you can invent one of your own! Combine two of your favorites.

By Chad Mills (Teacher) The peacock continues to choke on the ruby, red ring caught in its throat, stuck in its tonsils. You bolt from the scene with fear in your veins. You think, "Am I responsible for killing a peacock? And also, do peacocks even have tonsils?" There's no time to think about peacock tonsils. You sprint around the corner and see a pet store on your right. A hamster cage catches your eye. Inside the small metal cage, a hamster lies perfectly still, like he too is dead. You stare down at the poor, little, furry hamster. You put your face right up against the cage to see if he is breathing. Suddenly, the hamster pops up and begins to run around on its exercise wheel. You laugh to yourself, but seconds later the hamster plays dead again. Then pops up only to fool you once more. You can't believe how well this hamster plays dead and you must show your friends. You decide to take the hamster from its cage and hide him in your pocket. Nobody seems to notice, so you carefully walk away from the store with the hamster snuggled in your left front pocket. Imaginat ion Creat ion come. ?Morse!? ?We?ve been hit? Said Pow. ?Sheesh. Who??
DESERTSURVIVAL- AMCAGENTSPYFORCE By Pablo Lievano (5th Grade)
?I do not know that. But I do know that we need to parachute. I Suppose you?re an expert after that show off at Pearl Harbor.? Pow Affirmed.
Dedicated to all those people who do things without thinking.
?I most certainly am?. Was my answer. ?Let?s do this, man!? I exclaimed.
Attention: All my fellow soldiers and army friends at the end of the story you can say I am definitely weird and a bit crazy!
?Wait! My water bottle!?Pow yelled.
Have you ever done something and you don?t even know why you did it? Well that?s what happens to me. Always!
Pow stammered ?But I bought it in -?
I was gonna faint. I was hot and sweaty. A wave of dizziness passed by me. I took off my aviator jacket. Suddenly, I saw a mansion. I ran to it. As I approached it, the mansion started disappearing. Since when did mansions disappear? Was it a new kind of tech, unknown to the U.S? As I arrived to the disappearing mansion, my eyes started to shut. My head felt heavier. My knees were very heavy. My ears had a hard time hearing the moves of my slow, heavy footsteps.I toppled backwards with a big thump. Wait, wait, wait! I?m going to far into the story without telling you what had made this start. It all started a year after the jungle ? incident. I might as well call it something else, like accident. Well anyways, I was going on the McAgent Spy Force 2 on the way to Dubai. I was with my friend Agent Mc Pow Cow, we had to spy on a wealthy Arab businessman. U.S intelligence services thought he was wealthy because of gun trafficking. That?s when you bring guns into other countries without permission. We thought it was for the LELTUMATOEZ. LELTUMATOEZ was a terrorist organization. If those weapons reached LELTUMATOEZ, well? THE APOCALYPSE WOULD COME! You read it. Apocalypse.Would.Come.A.K.A the end of the world as we know it. I thought of how the world would be if the end would
?Ain?t Nobody got time for THAT!? I shouted.
?Oh who cares? We?re gonna DIE!? ?Wrahhhhhhhhh!? I sounded like a rabid monkey. I didn't want to die? Pow opened the door of our jet. ?Cmon Morse!? Yelled Pow over the screaming wind. that we were gonna jump. ?Pow! We need to open our parachutes 60 meters over the floor!? I shouted over the wind and roaring motors. ?Uhhh sure!? Pow said uncertainly. This had never been tried before. The minimum was 200 meters off the ground. It was risky, but it was either that or open it at 200 meters and getting shot by the planes. ?I- I?ll g- go first? Said Pow ?Ok? I said ?I will follow you.? Pow jumped. ?GERONIMO!? Was what he exclaimed in that moment. I got ready. I took a deep breath. I was kinda sad. It had taken so long and hard work for our spy forced to buy a second McAgent Spy Force 2. I had lived such a live on the edge. I had been chased by a wild cat in the jungle. I had been shot at. But I repeated my favorite saying. ?GO HARD OR GO HOME!? I shouted at the top of my lungs. boat. ?Let?s go inside the boat and play a game? Maddi finally suggested.
by Briana Perez (grade 5) ?Look at the beautiful sea turtle over there,? exclaimed Maddi.
?Sure? Can we play battleship?!?!? asked Jackson annoyingly ?Okay? responded Maddi rolling her eyes.
?Where?? asked Jackson her twin brother. ?Over there? she responded pointing at the sleeping turtle. The Jones family was on vacation on their yearly world exploring trip where they would rent a boat and travel to different countries. ?Now, now kids settle down! Why don?t you start getting the table ready,? replied their mom. Gazing up towards the approaching clouds, their dad responded, ?Actually that might not be such a good idea. There?s a storm coming. I think it?s better if you guys go indoors and wait till we get to land?. Maddi knew he was correct because on the horizon was a deep, dense, dark cloud so she and her brother hurried inside. Inside the family-sized boat, the ride was wild, everything was sliding and you couldn?t stand still without being hit by an object. Eventually after a rough ride they made it to an island. Their parents went inland to search for a safe place to stay. ?Why do we have to stay in the boat?? complained Jackson as he stared at the direction their parents went. ?How many times do we have to have this conversation? Mom and dad made us stay because they think the boat is safer? respond Maddi with a great deal of attitude. Maddi and Jackson sat for a long time thinking, thinking of fun stuff they could be doing instead of sitting there miserably on that wet, uncomfortable
Maddi and Jackson happily played battleship. From time to time there were sudden lurches due to stormy waves. Then suddenly, without warning, the boat shot forward and there was a loud snap. The twins fell forward. ?What is happening?? shouted Maddi over the rushing waves. ?I think the rope snapped and now we are going out to sea. But we can?t do anything now? responded Jackson ?I think..? but before Jackson could finish the boat went over a big wave and went down like it was going down a cliff, and they both hit their heads on the wall. Jackson woke up first. His first reaction was to go outside but then he decided to wake Maddi up first. ?Maddi wake up? he screamed at Maddi. ?Ugh where are we what happened?? asked Maddi waking up from her delightful dream.? ?I think we are on an island.? said Jackson dumbly. ? I would have never woken you up if I knew you were going to ask dumb questions. Now get up. Grab some food and other stuff then stick it in a bag. Let?s go see where we are.? ?Sir, yes, sir? she responded annoyed that Jackson was treating her like she was in the military. They gathered a bunch of supplies and exited the boat. It was like they entered a new planet. It was beautiful. The island was small, at the other side there were small buildings. In the middle there was a small lake. Cont inued on next page.

?Let?s go to the lake to get water and afterwards go to the village? ordered Jackson. They went to the lake , gathered some water in their bottles and continued there way to the village. They finally arrived at the entrance to the village. There was a sign that said Welcome to Phoenix Island.
They went back started the fire and fell fast asleep. The next day, they woke up. It was in the afternoon. They went outside and were surprised to see that the fire had spread. It was so big it was like a bonfire. ?What do we do?? shouted Maddi panicking.
?Have you seen Phoenix Island on the map?? asked Maddi ?No.? Responded Jackson, ?but I think we should rename it I say we call it Creepy Island.? ?I say we call it Mystery Island because we don?t know much about it? Replied Maddi. ?Okay you win. Let?s go find a house that doesn?t look like it?s going to collapse. Then we can set a fire up right next to the house so we can boil the water and disinfect it.? They found a house to set up camp in and made a fire. After they ate Food In a Bag and drank some water, they went to bed. The next morning they woke up and decided to try and catch some fish at the beach ( the name they gave the lake). They wanted to catch fish because they only had two packets of Food In a Bag, one left for each of them. ?How are we going to catch a fish?? Asked Maddi. ?Well I found string in the house last night and we can get a stick and tie it to the string.? They went over to the beach to try and catch a fish, Sadly they didn?t they tried for hours but never caught one.
?I don?t know? replied Jackson. At that moment a search and rescue plane dumped a bucket of water and stopped the fire. Then it landed on the landing strip that was on the island. They ran over to it. ?Who are you?? asked the surprised Maddi. ?I?m Mathew. You must be the Jones twins. Your parents are at our base come on. They climb on the plane. Mathew told them the story of Phoenix Island. He told them that gold miners use to live there and that when they started running out of gold they moved. He also told them that each year the government checks on the island to see what?s happening to it. The twins slept the rest of the ride. Bump, bump, bump! The plane shook as the pilot landed. Maddi and Jackson woke up. There was their parents waiting on the side of the runway. Maddi and Jackson exited the plane. their parents were so happy to see them. ?We were so worried about you two? exclaimed their mom. ?When Mathew saw the fire he guessed that you two accidentally set fire to something,? said their dad. Their parents were too glad that the twins were back so they did not ask questions. Every summer after that they always traveled by plane. No more getting lost at sea!
?Can we go back to the house?? complained Maddi ?Sure? responded Jackson 17

How would I describe such a lively character like Moana? She valiantly represented her The thief escapes, you snatch the thief?s legs, but island by becoming a heroine, devoted to do right when you were going to get the money? the anything to honor Grandma Tala, and restoring thief leaps up, climbs the fence and dashed away. the heart of the mother island, Te Fiti. Get ready Unfortunately, the teacher shouts at you to return to discover the first ever Disney Polynesian to the group and you never go on a field trip again. princess and the greatest animated heroine yet, MOANA! THE END Moana of Motunui loved the ocean ever since she was little. She always tried to care for it. She first noticed her connection to the ocean when she was really tiny and was collecting seashells. As she was about to reach the limit of the island and the ocean, the water opened up to her! As she was collecting more seashells, the ocean gave her a gift! It was the heart of Te Fiti! Her curiosity grew and grew tremendously over time, though she knew it was against her father?s wishes, that nobody in the island would ever go out into the water further than the barrier reef. Comparing Moana to another animated female character named Belle, this character crossed the cultural borders of the town trying to save her father from the terrible and frightening Beast. Belle is the protagonist in the classic Beauty and The Beast. Belle was the first Disney princess to stand up for herself by ignoring the super selfish Gaston who wanted to marry the only bookworm in town which is Belle, but in the end, Belle does fall in love with the Beast, but Moana doesn't fall in love with anyone. Both Moana and Belle are in theaters now, I recommend comparing the characters yourself!

TORRESDELPAINE By Keira Simon (Grade 4)
The wind was like a bully with a fistfull of sand, always pelting it at my face. I was in a valley with my parents, on a sandy trail that will eventually lead to my destination, the base of Torres del Paine. My eyes were stinging because of the sand, so I had to close my eyes. I gripped my father?s hand and kept walking. The wind was so tempestuous that every few steps I had to stagger back. Every step felt like I was walking through a ball. Whenever I get further into the ball, I bounce back out. I could hear my heart pounding in my chest. I was petrified. One misplacement of my foot and I would slip down the gravelly cliff. The strong wind pushing me wasn?t helping.
?I wish I was back in my home and none of this ever happened.? I thought while struggling to move forward. After battling the wind for about 5 kilometers, I finally saw a glimpse of Camp Chileno. We had lunch in Camp Chileno. As I prepared to go out into what looked like a sandstorm, I pleaded with my parents. ? Why can?t we book a hotel here and wait for some horse to bring us down or something?? ?No! We came all the way up here so we have to continue!? They replied as I predicted. The moment I stepped out, I felt the wind shoving me against the door. I immediately leaped back in, aghast after previewing what I assumed would be the second half of my ascend . My parents dragged me back out. After a few minutes of hiking, the landscape became more and more like a forrest. And fortunately for me, the wind had died out. Although occasionally there would be a gust of wind, it was not as strong as before. The ground was muddy and the forest was lousy with trees. The ground was covered in dried leaves.
Sometimes, there were mud puddles, but usually there were either branches or rocks there as well that I liked to balance on. Soon, there were a lot of rocks and the path became almost vertical. The trail also started twisting and turning like the body of a snake. I gripped onto the rocks and pulled myself upwards. Once we came to the end of the ascend, I was standing before a ?graveyard?. The whole ground was covered in rocks of different sizes, colors, and shapes. Now, after a long period of time, I could feel the wind propelling me forward again. When I shifted my focus upwards, I gaped at the sight before me. The sight was rewarding. I instantly forgot what struggles I had just been through. I forgot the pain in my limbs. Torres del Paine was more magnificent than I ever would have imagined. It was a paradise. The towers gleamed gold in the sunlight, towering high above me. The lake was turquoise and sparkly. The water was calm and reflected the image of Torres del Paine. ?Wow? I gasped as I pointed up at the famous landform. I crossed the ?graveyard? slowly, balancing on the rocks. At the bottom of the rocks, I leaped onto a big rock and sat down to rest. The rock had another rock behind it so it resembled a sofa. My mother signaled for me to go over to the edge of the lake. My father was setting up his camera and tripod. He put a timer on and my parents and I quickly skipped from stone to stone into the center of the lake. I smiled my best smile and hugged my parents. ?Click!? I heard the camera take a picture. After trying out a few other poses, my mother and I decided to have a snack and rest, while my father took pictures of Torres del Paine without any people in it. I scarfed down my energy bar and admired the excellent view. The sky was getting darker by the minute. We prepared to go back home. The descend was effortless, until I reached the windy valley. I hesitated a moment before continuing, when I noticed the valley. I braced myself and continued forward. It wasn?t as bad as I imagined because the wind vanished into thin air. It started drizzling lightly. By 9:00 pm, we reached the car park where we parked our car. I was so relieved that I was still alive. Right after the car started moving, I fell asleep. Soon we were back at our hotel, Rio Serrano. I can still remember all the struggles I went through to see the rewarding view. Luckily, I didn?t give up and turn back, or else I would have suffered for nothing. 19
THEFALL by Pablo Lievano (grade 5)
A few days ago, I went to bikepark El Durazno. Had I known what would?ve happened, maybe I wouldn?t have gone. But eventually, I discovered what happened there Woosh! I sailed down the mountain, hearing the wind whistle through my ears. The air smelled sweet from the chamomile. I was sweating, but that sweat became cold soon. My dad was in front of me. I braked a little because I was going into a curve that about only 1 ½ people fit. If I didn?t brake correctly, at the right time I may fall down the mountain. As I reached a curve, I slowed down because there was another biker going up. But I braked in the worst place ever. A Sandy Curve. You may be wondering how this all started. Well, it was a sunny morning at Bikepark El Durazno. I was there with my dad, sitting at the base of the mountain we were going to bike up. ?Crees que esta vez lo lograremos?? I asked my dad. ?Sí!? He replied. I knew we were going to get higher than last time. We were going to get to La Buitrera. La Buitrera was the trail we had been trying to get to the top. I?t wasn?t easy. I felt it in my knees. I felt them turbocharged, ready to go. I was gonna do it better than last time. I was going to repeat the phrase that I always repeated when I was doing a challenge. The phrase was ?If I want to do it, I CAN do it!? ?Vamos?? I asked my dad. ?Bueno, pero vamos a ir a tu ritmo. No quiero que te sobreesfuerces.? He replied. We started to go up the mountain, full of energy. I was going at a good rhythm but i had to stop a little to rest because a 10 year old can?t do 4.4 K going up, with rocks without resting to catch his breath, can he? I had my water pack on with 1.75 liters. The water pack could be filled until 2L but I didn?t think it was necessary. But I was proved wrong. But I estimated there was only about 1.5 left. There were many moments that I wanted to quit, that my muscles ached. I thought ?If I want to do it, I CAN do it!, If I want to do it, I CAN do it!, If I want to do it, I CAN do it!? ?I CAN DO IT!? I yelled. Before I knew it we were 4.1K up in the mountain but I was Exhausted. ?No puedo subir mas. Estoy exhausto? I informed my dad. ?Pégale un mordisco al bocadillo.? My dad said. ?No gracias.?
?Pablo? he stated ?Pégale un mordisco al bocadillo.? A bocadillo is a colombian treat, made out of guava and sugar. Kind of like a hardened jelly. ?El azúcar te ayudará a ganar energía? my dad informed me. ?Podemos empezar a bajar? Por Favor?? I pleaded. ?Bueno vale, porque diste todo lo que tenías.? He said. We started down the mountain. I was braking at first, but later I had more confidence. I braked a little because I was going into a curve that about only 1 ½ people fit. If I didn?t brake correctly, at the right time I may fall down the mountain. As I reached a curve, I slowed down because there was another biker going up. But I braked in the worst place ever. A Sandy Curve. I was flung off my bike into the air. I felt the air go through me. At that instant, I felt I was frozen in air. Suddenly, I was in really fast motion and I landed the floor with a thud. I was thinking ?What the ? ? How did I fall?? My face was full of dirt and was scratched. My body ached in pain. I tasted the dust inside my mouth. I saw everything blurry. ? Oh darn it! Now my scars would get infected! Because I didn?t have water to clean it. I had drank it all!? I thought, ?Why did this happen to me? Why did I do this dumb error?? A biker stopped to help me but I said I was ok. But I wasn?t. I wanted to look strong, not crying. I look down at my knees. They were all scraped and bruised. My arm was bruised too. I thought. ?I made it ?till here, i?m not gonna give up! My dad came back and asked, ?Estas bien?? I nodded and got up. My knees ached with every move but I tried to not notice it. The part that most hurt was the bumpy rocks in the downhill. I felt I would not be able to do it ? But I did I was overjoyed when we reached the bottom. I felt as superman, I could do anything I wanted if I persevered. That was the best sensation of my life. The Fall ended up being the best part of the biking trip. After reaching the bottom my dad told me ?No good mountain biker got to be that way without falling.? Life is like a bike trip. You will never know when it ends. 20
Keep Ring Hidden
April 4th, 2017 Dear Nido,
By Darcy Hill (Grade 2) ?Don?t touch the bushes, please? your teacher says.
My name is Darcy Hill and at the beginning of April I?m leaving Nido de Aguilas and heading home back to our farm in Australia. I have had an amazing adventure at this school. It all started 22 months ago when I arrived in first grade with Ms.Dani and Ms.Connie. They were so caring, warm and welcoming and with Ms Veronica's help I settled in and found new friends.
You stick your hands in your pocket nervously, hoping that the teacher doesn't notice. Luckily she doesn't spot the bulging ring in your pocket. Three minutes later during your tour of Los Dominicos, you see a birdpen with pigeons, ducks, and peacocks. You and your friend Darcy agree to sneak away from the group and go in the birdpen.
One of the highlights of that year was the Zoo and Animal Project. We researched about animals and how the zoo managers created the enclosures. We also had a fun field trip to Santiago Zoo.
You open the pen door slowly. One curious peacock notices you and Darcy. It marches over to you, stares at the ring, and quickly pecks at your pocket! It snaches the ring right out of your pocket with its beak! It gulps down the ring! It starts choking! What should you do?!
For second grade I have had two amazingly great teachers Ms Rosie and Ms Vale. They have made learning so much fun! In second grade I was interested in the pollinator project. We learnt about how they pollinated. We also learnt that pollinators can be bugs, reptiles and mammals. We also had to build a house for a pollinator.

Part of my adventure was meeting new children who have became good friends. I have friends that have lived in China, India, Indonesia, America, Spain, Mexico, Belgium, Korea, Israel and Chile of course. I have really enjoyed the challenge of learning Spanish thanks to Mr Chris and Ms Nailah. I have travelled to many parts of Chile with my family and friends during my time here and really enjoyed seeing this wonderful country. Even though I am leaving Nido I hope to continue my adventure through visiting my friends and them visiting me in Australia. I would also thank Mr Jason and Mr Chad my Gifted and Talented teachers who have given amazing lessons, like the boat building challenge. Also for introducing me to the Talon. To me Nido has made my time in Chile as one big fun adventure. Like a vacation where I have learned along the way. Sincerely, Darcy
