DIDYOUKNOW PRANKSTOPULLONANYONE: THEY'RESAFEANDFUN
By Nico Rios (4F) and Ameer Najarali (4F) WARNING! These pranks are too epic. If you choose to try any of these pranks be careful who to prank as you don?t want to start a prank war! The worst feeling you can have on April Fool?s day is this one: you don?t have a prank to pull on one of your friends. That?s why these awesome two kid prank-pulling expert authors are going to teach you how to pull some amazing pranks on your friends. Now, sit back and enjoy as we fix all your pranking problems. The first prank will be a classic, ?The Sugar and Salt Switcher.? You are probably thinking that the trick is so classic and everyone knows it, they do, but do not expect it. So, I recommend you to do this prank. Ingredients: - Salt container, sugar container, a bowl, the power not to giggle in the next mean after the prank. First: Get the 2 containers. Next: Pour the salt in the bowl and pour the sugar in the empty salt container. Finally: You pour the salt from the bowl to the sugar container and tidy up. The prank is awesome and worth it. Don?t add sugar or salt to your food, you don?t want to get pranked. Now, for the second prank, we?ll show you "The toilet paper in your shoes prank," one of Nico?s personal favorites. Ingredients: - 2 of your victim?s shoes - 1 roll of toilet paper - Casualness First: Grab the shoes and the toilet paper and your power not to giggle Next: Stuff some toilet paper into the shoes of your friend while they sleep. Make sure your casual power doesn?t go in with the paper! Finally: Sit down and continue what you were doing. This prank is going to be hilarious. Watch as your victim
struggles to fit into his/ her shoes. We find it particularly funny to pull this trick while your friend is sleeping on a sleep-over. That way, when they have to wake up and get ready to go, it?s even more funny because of the struggles they?ll have with putting their shoes on! Next, Ameer?s favorite prank: ?The Frozen Cereal Trick.? It?s perfect for sleep-overs. It?s also very easy. Ingredients: - A bowl, milk, cereal, refrigerator, spoon, anti-laughing power, planned sleep-over First: Get the bowl, pour the cereal and the milk then add the spoon. Next: Freeze the milk and cereal with the spoon in it in the freezer. Later: Invite your victim to a sleep over. Wait until it?s breakfast and open the refrigerator when your victim isn?t looking, and grab the frozen cereal and milk. Then: Add more milk and cereal to make the whole thing look normal, and pass it to your victim. Finally: Watch your victim try to eat the cereal. The prank is too amazing. If you follow these directions, we promise you?ll get great results. Just be sure to not give up the surprise by acting out of the ordinary. If you want to see a disgusted face, use this final prank. This will turn out hilariously funny when you see your poor victim?s face when they try the ?Juice.? Ingredients: Colorful food coloring Water in a cup Casualness First: Put the food coloring in the cup. Next: Mix the food coloring with the water, and if it doesn?t look colorful enough, put in more coloring. Finally: Serve the ?Juice? to your friends and DON?T LAUGH when they try the flavorless juice. This prank is a future classic and you should definitely try it. Pranks can be fun. Pranks can be entertaining. Pranks can also go wrong, or have unintended consequences. Remember that the whole point of a prank is to have fun, but you have to be careful to not hurt (emotionally 1
DIDYOUKNOW "Pranks" by Ameer and Nicolas Continued... or physically) the person you?re pranking. For that reason, we put together some prank Do?s and Don?ts to help guide you in your prank planning. Do?s Always try to perfect your prank before using it. In the end of the prank tell the victim that he/ she got pranked. Be friendly about it to let them know that it was all in good fun. If the person you?ve pranked seems upset, immediately apologize and explain to them that you didn?t want to upset them. Ask yourself: will this prank hurt (physically or emotionally) the person being pranked? If so, either don?t do the prank or find a way to change the prank so it doesn?t hurt the person. Don?ts Play your pranks on sensitive people. Injure people in your pranks. Be sure to test your prank out before actually unleashing it on the person to be sure it won?t hurt the person. Prank the wrong person. Pranking the wrong person could end up in an argument or a prank war that you didn?t want to be involved in. Set-up a prank to be pulled off in front of an audience that might embarrass the person being pranked. Nobody wants to be involved in a prank that ends up with a bunch of people laughing AT the person who got pranked. Finally, we?d like to close this how-to article with one last, but important thought: Reader be careful, you are not the only person reading this article!
RECYCLING by Evan Dallimore (4C) and Liam Purcell (4C) Recycling is important, so we should all do it. If you are interested in the importance of recycling, you should read on as we?ll be telling you about recycling?s history, importance to our planet, the different stages of recycling, and how you can recycle here in Santiago. Recycling is the practice of creating objects out of used ones. This is some of the history of recycling. Recycling has been a big part of human history since 400 BC (and perhaps even earlier). For example, archaeologists have found that glass from the imperial Byzantine times were being recycled in the ancient city of Sagalassos, located in current day Turkey. Recycling was a highlight in World War II because of the shortage of materials such as glass, metal, rubber etc? . Factories had to produce lots of war machines which needed metal. A single tank took 18 tons of metal. One of the navy's biggest ships took 900 tons. In Asheville, North Carolina, trolley tracks that had been buried beneath the streets were ripped up and used for military purposes. War machines also took a lot of rubber. A heavy bomber requires 1,825 pounds of rubber. Americans were asked to turn in old tires, gloves, raincoats and garden hoses for recycling. [Here is a picture of a recycling poster during world war 2.] Recycling is not only important for humans when there is war. Recycling is a way to This is an advertisement help our planet. promoting recycling from World War II.
Recycling has a lot of benefits not only to humans, but to the planet as well. For example, paper is made from trees and if we recycle paper, less trees need to be cut down- which is important as trees supply the oxygen that we all breathe. At home, you can use eggshells and leaves and fruit peelings to fertilize your plants. That?s a form of recycling too. Another reason we benefit from recycling is because It will also save energy because it takes less energy to recycle items than to make new ones. Since making energy frequently is a source of pollution, this is important. 2
DIDYOUKNOW Recycling by Evan and Liam continued... Here I will tell you the stages of recycling. The first stage of recycling is the ?collecting? stage. In this stage materials are collected and processed. The next stage is the ?manufacturing? stage. In this stage you process the materials even more to create new products. The final stage is selling the products and then collecting the used items and the process repeats. Recycling is also important in Santiago. In Santiago you can recycle five different types of materials (plastic bottles made of PET (a type of plastic , papers and cardboard, glass, tetra pack and aluminum cans) at the Punto Limpio of Lo Barnechea. An even better place, where they also recycle other plastic materials, food containers and plastic bags is Triciclos. The better recycling is a little further away but is worth the effort. For more information on how and where you can recycle here in Lo Barnechea, visit their website at www.puntolimpio.cl, or you can visit Triciclos site at: www.triciclos.cl/ . We have talked about the importance of recycling, the history of recycling, its importance to the planet, the steps of recycling, and how you can recycle here in Santiago. I hope we have taught you enough. So if you don?t already recycle, help save the planet by starting to recycle!
MYSTAYATHOMEDAD
By Ariana Robinson (grade 3F) Like most dads, my dad is fun! I like my dad because he sometimes goes to shops and gives us ice cream. He takes care of us and shows us his love in many ways. But my dad is a little different from other dads because he also stays home with us on school days. I have always wondered why my dad chose to be a ?stay-at-home-dad.? I wanted to interview him to know how he feels and what he experiences with Asha, Roisin and I: Ariana: What has been your best experience as a stay-at-home-dad? Dad: Being able to spend so much time with my kids. Ariana: Why did you choose to be a stay at home dad? Dad: The opportunity arose and it sounded like a good idea. Ariana: How much would you like to be a teacher? Dad: I feel like I already get enough quality time with my kids. Ariana: What is the difference between a stay at home dad and mum in your opinion?.... Dad: I think we are similar as far as what we are trying to achieve for our children - there are just a few more mums doing it! Ariana: What advice would you give to another stay at home dad?.... Dad: Have a good stock of wine. Ariana: What is the funniest thing that had happened to you as a stay at home dad? Dad: One day unbeknownst to me, I sent my youngest daughter to daycare in pajamas!
Stay at home Dads are awesome!
I liked interviewing my dad because he taught me to do what you want to do when the opportunity comes. He also told me that he likes us a lot! 3
DIDYOUKNOW MISBEHAVING
fake spiders crabs or frogs on her shoulder to show how naughty you're being. How to make your mom angry First you have to yell as loud as you can! Next you have to stomp your feet then you plug your ears and scream
By Ashlyn Edeen (Grade 2A) Introduction!
Did you know misbehaving is ignoring, not listening, and making the wrong choices. I'm going to teach you about making your mom angry, being picky, being naughty, and ignoring your teacher. Lets start with the trouble-making! How to ignore your teacher You have to start talking to the person next to you. Later you have to sit crazy! Then you have to say ?La la la la!? and then you have to yell. Yelling is screaming quietly. How to be picky First, if somebody offers you something you say no, and get the opposite thing. Why? Because you need to upset the person who offered you something. How do you upset someone who offers you something? You can do this any place you want. What ever time you want and any time you have a chance. For example if you get offered blue cotton candy refuse to take it and then buy something else, best choise could be another colored cotton candy. How to be naughty First you choose someone to be naughty with. Next you have to pull their hair then you need to blame it on that person. Later you have to fake cry. Next, the teacher should turn around and look at you finally you to put
and shut your eyes. Then you have scream. Finally you need to be crazy. Crazy means acting silly.
LAUGHINGGAS By Anna Mahar (Grade 4E) When I first heard of laughing gas I thought it must make you laugh a lot.. The Wackadoodle issue of The Talon has given me a chance to discover what laughing gas really is. Laughing gas is also known as nitrous oxide [N20]. Laughing gas is is made out nitrogen and oxygen. It smells nice and taste sweet.
It is used in surgery and dental care. They use it to relax you during the procedure and it will not make you go to sleep. The gas will numb you during a tooth pulling or any surgery. Also, it is used for making whipped cream and used in mixing and foaming in dairy industry. Sometimes, it does make you laugh but other times not really. Laughing gas was discovered by Joseph Priestley in the 1770s.

ANIMALS&NATURE TheFloraandFaunaof ParqueTorres Del PaineAdventure By Ariana Robinson (Grade 3F) I arrived in Patagonia, dropped my bags, and smelt the fresh air and knew this would be an exciting 4 days journey. It was the morning of January 5th. We arrived at Hotel Las Torres, a hotel in Parque Torres Del Paine, Patagonia. We found our rooms. There was a hotel guide that showed us on a walk to where we could spot our first native animal in the south of Chile. Finally we did, we saw a Chiloe Wigeon a type of duck from that part of Chile. We also saw some Calafate berries which were purple, and had thorns to protect themselves from predators who want to eat them. The native people say ? If you eat the Calafate berry you will return to Patagonia sooner or later?. We ate almost 100 berries!! The next day we had plans to go to Gray Glacier. When we were driving there we had a stop at a lake that had flamingos and guanacos and guanco bones. We saw the wavy grass and my hair in my face. It was a wonderful sight. When we finished getting photos we drove off and away, and to a very windy waterfall. Too hard to explain. But here is a little explanation. It was so windy that I nearly flew away. It was too dangerous for us to go to the edge of the waterfall balcony. The parents had to take turns to see the waterfall perfectly. Then we had to go back to the car because I think that we all knew that it would fly away sooner or later!! Even if the car lifts up just a little bit and then comes back. A few minutes later, they said ? I'm sorry but the boat ride is canceled ?. So our guide said ?let?s go to another place? and we said goodbye and left. When we were at the waterfall some people said they saw a puma attacking a sheep which is very rare, and we asked where? they answered on your way back. So we got back in the car and drove off. In the car we were thinking would he stay with so many tourists around? No, so the bushes were the only way he could have hid. We started slowing down, and the driver got out of the car in a bushy area, but we stayed. He came back and said I hear it eating and we all got out. We saw a little
head peeping out. Then slowly and quietly it tiptoed out of the bush and zoomed past leaving the sheep for the condors. We left the sheep in peace with no photos taken. Then it got late, and we had to go to sleep to get ready for our next adventure!! ?Good Morning? are you ready to go to breakfast? When breakfast was finished we were just about to leave when a fox came, it is called the Zorro Chilla. We had a walk through the forest. When we were half way through we had a vote, and the final decision was going back!! On our way back we saw all these domes, some were big and some were little. After leaving the domes, we saw little baby cubs. They were so cute and little, I adored them. They got scared and ran to their mum. Suddenly the mum came out with a very fierce look on its face, just then it started walking around us in curiosity. She finished her walk! Meanwhile we entered the hotel once more before we may or may not die!!! Then it was time for dinner, they had a fish soup. We all started to yawn, it was time for bed, for our next adventure and a long one at that. ?Goodmorning? my aunty said to me. ?How was your sleep?? it was good I replied. We got ready, locked the door, and head out. The breakfast was delicious and it made my appetite complete. It was the last day at Torres del Paine so there was not a lot going on. It was one of those days when not much happens. So that day was a relaxing day to drink wine for the adults and play on the park for the kids. Oh sorry I forgot to tell you about the park we always played on. Well on the second day in Torres del Paine we met these people from France and they had a child and he did not either. My little sister liked him so they played together so we joined in. Now lets get back to the story. It was night at the dinner table, we were all full for more so we went to bed. I could not sleep, because it was so sad to leave this big beautiful place. It was next morning, and we packed our bags. The van was waiting for us, we all hopped in and it left off. At the airport they took our bags and we got on the plane going to Punta Arenas.

ANIMALS&NATURE ADAYINTHELIFEOFASNAKE
by Alex Arthur (Grade 3D)
I am a kid Cobra. My name is Sssssid. I am 12 years old in snake years. I woke up coiled around a stick this morning for some strange reason. Today was the first day of Snake School! In the first hour, we played a game called, ?What Scares You?for the first activity. Everybody agreed Bear Grylls scares us most. He is a man who does extreme survival stuff on the BBC television channel. I have seen him massacre, roast, and eat 29 snakes! My teacher, a Diamondback Rattlesnake, had his brother killed, eaten, and his skin used to hold urine for Bear Grylls to drink. Mr. Grylls is grosser than a rancid rats tail!!. After we played ?What Scares You?, we played a literature game called Jester. Here are a few jokes from the game: I crushed my wife like a grape! Did she scream? No. She just gave a little whine. What do you call a no eyed deer? No ideer
For after school activities I had an activity called ?Rat Catching Tournament?, which I ended up last in the tournament.I left with 57 bruises, and a shattered fang. After I had my fangs cleaned and replaced at the Fangtist ( snake dentist), I fell asleep curled-up around that very same stick I woke up on. Uhhh! I woke up at midnight because of the uncomfortable rat-lump in my stomach from lunch. I discovered I had been vomiting in my sleep!! I am now too tired to write anymore.
THEDAYI LAUGHED by Naomi Templeman (Grade 2A) Hi, I?m Maya Phunny. You would think with a name like that, I would laugh a lot. Well you would be wrong because I don?t laugh. Maybe because everyone expects me to be funny. I don?t laugh at: jokes, tickling, pranks, or my messy little brother. I don?t even smile. Ever. But one day while I was riding my horse, my horse stepped in a huge mud puddle! I did not notice it until I returned home which was one mile and a hundred centimeters away. My horse looked hilarious! There was mud on his chin, hooves, and neck. I laughed so hard I choked. I even fell on my head. I almost cried I was laughing so hard. I guess I have a sense of humor for muddy horses.
What do you call a deer with no eyes that isn?t moving? Still no ideer. I was almost paralyzed from hunger. Fortunately, it was now lunch. My mom put a rat in my packed lunch. My favorite!!!!. But unfortunately, it was rancid and ungutted. I left it on the table and went hungry for the day, even after I was offered a peppered and gutted rat with fried whiskers on the side by Fred the Cafeteria Chef! 6

THEGREATSOCCERDEBATE-MESSIVS.RONALDO By Nicolas Rios (4F) and Tommy Gillibrand (5C)
Who?s better the ?Rocket Ronaldo? or the ?Atomic Flea?? This has been a great historical debate on the Nido soccer fields and classrooms from first grade through fifth grade. But now in this exclusive article, we will give you the facts and stats to support your side of the question.
CR7 Facts and Stats:
Messi Facts and Stats:
Full Name: Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro
Full name: Lionel AndrĂŠs Messi Cuccittini
Nickname: The Sultan of the Stepover
Nickname: Messidona
Birthday: 5th of February, 1985
Birthplace: Rosario, Argentina
Birthday: 24th of June, 1987
Birthplace: Portugal
Position: Center Forward
Position: Left Winger
Height: 1.69 m (5 ft 6.5 in)
Height: 1. 85 meters (6.1 ft)
Goals for Fc Barcelona: 392Stronger Foot: Left
Goals for Real Madrid: 291
NICOANDTOMMYSTATETHEIR CASEFORTHEBESTPLAYERINTHE WORLD Debate Time: I think Cristiano Ronaldo is a better player than Messi because firstly, he can hit it just as well with his left foot as he can with his right. I also think Ronaldo is better because he has a way better midfield to help him than Messi?s Barcelona squad. He also has a better jump and a better header ability than Messi. He also comes in and performs amazingly when Real Madrid most needs it, even though sometimes it isn?t enough to take Real Madrid home with a win. Although he is a little disrespectful on the field, off the field he is found sneaking into hospital to give sick people money and medicine. He also is a nice person to his teammates, unlike Messi who bosses around his team which gives him awesome chemistry.
Debate Time: I think Lionel Messi is way much better than Cristiano Ronaldo because his position (Center Forward) suits him much better than Cristiano Ronaldo the left winger. Also, he has better play creators like Rakiti? and Iniesta to give Neymar and him goal chances. He?s also better to watch because of his power to surprise when people least expect it. Even though he?s a bit bossy with his teammates, he has a good relationship with his teammates, such as Gerard PiquĂŠ, Andres Iniesta, and his fellow Argentine, Mascherano. He is much faster than Ronaldo, which gives him a huge advantage over the other team?s defense, and he uses that advantage to the fullest.
THEFINALWORD Messi and Cristiano? two very different players. Who knows who?s really better. Nico thinks Cristiano is better, but Tommy thinks Messi is better, but that?s just our opinions. What do you think? Convince your friends on the soccer field! Make your own debate!

SPORTS THENBAFINALS by: Takoa Cartwright (grade 5F), Dan Jaime (grade 5E) This year the two NBA finalists are going to be really hard to predict because there are more legitimate title contenders than in any season in recent history. A lot of teams can make it far in the playoffs, but there is only one Final, and only one team will win the last game of the season. Before we start analyzing the Finals, lets look at the teams that are contenders but have major flaws, injury problems, or are cooling off as the season moves on. At this point, it?s impossible to be certain about any prediction, but one thing we are certain of is? the Finals are sure to be unforgettable. The list of possible title contenders is long: Atlanta, San Antonio, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Chicago Bulls, etc. These teams may be contenders, but they all have major flaws. Atlanta lacks a superstar on their team, which is really important for the playoffs to win those big games. Oklahoma City has been battling injuries the whole season and players are underperforming. San Antonio is good, but they have a really old team, with two of their starters being 36 and 38, and in Memphis, they don?t shoot the three well, the Bulls are in injury trouble. But in all sports, and especially basketball and the NBA, you can never be 100% certain with predictions of how certain teams are going to perform every year. We?ll do our best, however, to share with you the two teams that we think you?ll see in the NBA Finals in June. The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the favorites to make the NBA finals this year. The team started 19-20 in their first 39 games. Since then, the Cavs have shined. After a recent game against the LA Clippers, LeBron James (one of the superstars of the NBA) said that his team, ?has rounded the corner,? and is ready to make a run at the title. No one believed it until they saw the Cavs rip off on a 12 game winning streak. In those wins, Cleveland had beaten the great Golden State Warriors and had beaten or came close to defeating many of the league?s best teams. LeBron has lead the way after returning from a two week span where he was recovering mentally and physically. Without James, the Cavs in the two week stretch had an awful record of one win and six losses. Since January 13th, when James returned, the Cavs are a frightening
team to face. Right before mid season, the Cavs were involved in a three-team trade between them, the New York Knicks, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the trade, the Cavs acquired one of the best shooting guards in the NBA, Iman Shumpert from the Knicks. They also got another shooting guard from the Knicks, J.R. Smith. From the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Cavs got Kendrick Perkins, a Center. The Cavs right now are in 2nd place and their record is 50 wins and 27 loses (from the 8th of April) in the East. The Cavs as a team are working together and all, though a lot of players have no playoff experience, we believe their Coach David Blatt will lead them to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. Another thing that also helps, is that the Cavs allow the second fewest free throw attempts in the NBA. Apart from the Cavs having outstanding defense, they have a very promising offense, averaging a little more than 102 points per game. With talented rebounders like Timofey Mozgov, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, and Iman Shumpert, you can?t go wrong! On March 11th the Cavs also beat the Dallas Mavericks by 31 points and the lowest scoring starter was Timofey Mozgov who still scored 17 points. In that game, four of the five starters had more than twenty points, with the high scorer being LeBron James with 27 points. The Cavs are a balanced team with unstoppable superstars. Since January 14th up until March 6th, the Cavs went 20-5 getting the most wins and highest winning percentage in the NBA. Also, they have had the most back-to-back games in the NBA. In February, they played 8 games in 10 days! Kyrie is in the HOUSE: On March 12th of the 2015 season against the San Antonio Spurs, the Cavs point guard had 57 points and 7 for 7 shooting from the three point line. He was also clutch when he hit a buzzer beater, game tying shot to bring the game into overtime where they eventually won 128-125.
So, with a team as stacked the Cavs with all these (Continue onas the next page) 11
SPORTS So, with a team as stacked as the Cavs with all these superstars, you can definitely list them as a leading contender for the NBA Finals!
3 pointers ever made. Klay is now 137th on the all time 3 pointers made. I know that sounds lame, but when you are only in your 4th season in the NBA, that is pretty awesome. The funny thing is that since legendary player Steve Kerr is retired and still knows practically everything there is to know about basketball, he is the Golden State Warriors coach! So that means Klay passed his own coach! Talking about threes, in that same game against the L.A. Clippers, Steph Curry arguably hit the most amazing 3 point shot in the 2015 season. He split 4 Clippers defenders with some very skilled dribbling techniquesincluding a crossover, a between-the-legs, and a behind the back dribble. After running right through a sea of defenders, he shot a deep three right in the face of another Clipper and swished it, but in honor of his nickname with Klay, we?ll rephrase that: He SPLASHED it right through the net! And it was from 26 feet away!
In the NBA?s Western Conference, you have Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, a.k.a. the Splash Brothers (they call Stephen and Klay the Splash Brothers because of their awesome shooting) making the Golden State Warriors run? and run? and run. They?re almost impossible to keep up with, averaging the most points per game in the NBA (averaging 109.6) and are also the number one ranked team in assists per game (averaging 26.9). Although the team moves the ball well, the 63 wins and 15 losses (that record is from the 8th of April) have mostly been brought by the Splash Brothers, but they also have very good starters with Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green, and a pretty good Center, Andrew Bogut. Apart from starters, they have very solid players coming off the bench, including ex All-Stars David Lee and Andre Iguodala (legendary), the Brazilian Blur Leandro Barbosa and Marreese Speights. Their two best players are three point specialists/ monsters, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. They have made over two hundred three pointers EACH! Steph also leads the league in most steals per game, averaging 2.16, apart from that, he is the Point Guard (his position) with the best field goal percentage in the NBA, meaning that he makes the most shots at his position in the NBA.
In the end, we predict that those are the two teams will make the finals: The Golden State Warriors out of the West and the Cleveland Cavaliers from the East. If they end up playing each other in the finals, we have made the prediction of all predictions? The Cleveland Cavaliers will be this year?s NBA champs!!!!
Klay Thompson is even better at shooting threes, having the 3rd highest 3 point percentage in the NBA! Yup you read that right: not the team, not the division, but the NBA!
We can?t be sure about all those ?ifs?, but what we know that is not a ?what if?is that LeBron James wants to take that trophy to his home state, Ohio, and lead the best team in the NBA to the championship...
Historical: On March 8th of 2015, in the first quarter of a game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Klay Thompson made a 3 pointer, passing one of the NBA?s most famous and important legends, Steve Kerr in most
The Cleveland Cavaliers!!!
This was not an easy choice, we thought: what if Steph and Klay go off and get 10 three-pointers each, what if Kyrie gets the winning 3 point shot with 0.01 seconds left on the clock! There are so many ?what ifs?! (As Mr. Redd, a 4th grade teacher here at Nido says)... What if the pope landed on the moon the second Kyrie hit the game winning shot!!!???

SPOTLIGHT 5THGRADERSGETEXTENDEDVACATION DUETOMINDBLOWINGWORK By: Takoa Jaime and Dan Cartwright (grade 5) Santiago, Chile: The 2015 generation of 5th grade students is experiencing the biggest surprise in Nido de Aguilas history! These 5th graders scored 100% on every test since the 5th test they were given starting from the first quarter of the 2014-2015 school year! Teachers were loving this and they kept giving their students more and more homework and schoolwork. These students were working like if their life depended on it. The 5th grade team of teachers started working on new projects to give the 5th grades. They kept making lessons harder for them, but obviously not with a bad intention. That?s when the teachers started noticing 99.9 % of the students in 5th grade were always in a bad mood and were studying and paying attention more than they normally did. That was when things changed. Since the beginning of the second semester, the Thursday ?extended day?has been incorporated into the Elementary program. This has been the biggest nightmare for the 5th grade students. There has even been some rumors going around that a head of one of the most stressed kids in 5th grade exploded! This has just been too much for the innocent kids in the International school Nido de Aguilas. To eliminate risk, teachers have eliminated the extended Thursday and have developed a program allowing only 5th graders to leave campus at 12:05 P.M. to prevent unnecessary risks for stress attacks which are known to cause severe brain damage or even deaths.
Safety Program) has changed the vacation date for the 5th Graders. Instead of leaving school as earlier planned on June 19, the 5th graders will leave school two months earlier on April 17th and will have graduation on Sunday the 26 of April. Mr. Casey, a fifth grade teacher at Nido agrees on this decision and would like to share some words, ?Yes, I am in agreement with NASP and agree kids are working too hard. My kids memoirs have been selling on Amazon and some have been best sellers. Over my years at Nido I?ve seen many generations of smart kids, but none like this. I actually feel really bad for what us teachers have done to our kids, so I?m happy some rules have changed.? Another 5th grade teacher names Ms. Denise also quoted: ?I agree with Casey and I feel very sorry for my kids. Some of my students were so over-worked they got e-mails getting offered scholarships from Harvard, Stanford, and Princeton. Just last week we had one kid in the 5T class (just recently added to the Nido program) whose head exploded. His name was Quantaviousness Quizinteritharembitrix, he was from Iceland where he lived with his pet otter and his nine brothers and four sisters, but no parents. I wish the best for that poor kid and I hope his funeral goes well.? This change will not affect the following 5th grade year but if necessary NASP will change dates of the following year only to meet WWH (Word Wide Health) Expectations. Nido would like to congratulate the fifth graders, and hope they save their brains for Middle School. Nico decided to be a great guy for a whole year, cleaning up his room, doing his chores, and walking his dog. He crushed other candidates like Pat Quinn, creator of the ice bucket challenge, and Tim Tebow, ex-Broncos QB, and finally won the Time Magazine Person of the Year award.
It all started in France in 1562. In that century, New Years Day was on April 1st the same day as April Fools. The king decided to prank everyone and he changed their calendar and so began the calendar year that starts on January 1st and ends on December 31. Since that day people called April 1st, April Fools Day.
Cultural Connections: 1) In England and Canada you only prank people in the morning. 2) In Portugal Instead of pranking, you throw baking flour at your friends. 3) In Denmark most newspapers publish one fake story in their local newspapers to prank their readers.

YOURVOTE
WOULDYOURATHER...
by Catherine Gordon and Gabriela Gomez (grade 3C) Have you ever played ?Would You Rather? in the car, bus, or airplane? Well Catherine and I have played the game many times and we thought it would be a perfect addition to the Wack-A-Doodle issue. We decided to play ?Would You Rather? with some of our Talon readers. We surveyed many Nido students and the answers were pretty interesting because they chose a variety of answers. The results are graphed here:
The Talon staff was even able to interview some of Nido's High School students for this issue's "Your Vote."

IMAGINATIONCREATION DIVIDED by Lilian Lamb and Andrea Picciotto (5A) Note to the reader: This is part 1 of a chapter book project that we have been working on. Part 2 will be published in issue 7 of The Talon, with the rest of the book being published on thetalon.nido.cl (as well as a link to where you'll be able to purchase the book). Chapter 1 The Beginning It seemed like a regular day to all of us. It was wrong, but right what we did. Me and my friends did it, we saved our kingdom and brought peace in doing so. I still remember that day as clear as glass:
Once, in a castle far away, there was a beautiful land, but sadly it was divided into two. There was an A side and a Z side. A girl named Lily was on the Z side, and a girl named Andrea was from the A side. They both were secretly twins, but nobody knew that except the parents. Andrea and Lily were super adventurous, as they always wanted to have adventures every day of their lives. One day in both the A High School and in Z High School they were field trips announced. The two schools would be traveling to the other sides to get to know the other side better for history class. To be clear, this field trip was to see where the other side lived. All the students knew that, under no circumstances, were they to interact with someone else from the other side during the field trip. On the day of the field trip, the 2 girls both wanted to know more about the lands, so while the schools unloaded the buses Andrea snuck away to the Z?s castle
to see the mysterious wonders of the Z land. Luckily Lily was in the castle since their field trip to A Land was in a week. Andrea knew that it was forbidden to be seen in Z Land, and that she would get in big trouble if she were caught away from her high school group- so Andrea went hiding every little step she took. While Lily was taking lessons (so that you are aware, Lily was the Z princess) she decided to take her royal break. As she always did on her break, Lily played with her best friends Sofia, Maya and Lucy. You see this wasn?t necessarily your tiny miny town. It's like a country. Obviously the lands had to share so A through K shared as L through Z shared. So A and K had only a queen not king. L through Z had no queen but had a king. The two lands used to be united but the king and queen had a divorce. So it was their decision to get divided. On the L to Z side the main princesses were Lily, Sofia, Maya and Lucy . The 4 best friends decided to play hide and seek. Lily went to the art room where all the beautiful art was hung up. While the princesses were playing, Andrea- who had previously been sneek-exploring the castle and unwittingly snuck into the royal chamber where the princesses were playing- was hiding behind a sofa because she had heard voices coming from down the royal hall. As soon as she heard the voices, her blood turned to ice. She knew that, if she were caught, she would be in big trouble. As she hid behind the sofa, she tucked her head as low as possible, and could see one pair of feet sitting on the sofa about a meter away from her. She tried to stay as quiet as a mouse, but Lily apparently saw some hair above the couch. Goosebumps went running up Lily?s spine while she shiver-walked slowly toward the couch. As she got closer, she saw enough to know what was crouching behind the couch: a girl that was about the same age as herself. (Andrea: Pink Lily: blue) When Lily realized what she was seeing: a girl hiding behind the couch! Then the 2 girls?eyes met each other. Read Part 2 in The Talon Issue 7! 16

chapter 1:Through the Closet Door Sweat ran down my back. I had to hide, but where? The maid was after me for accidentally um... um... sorta um.... breaking um.... you don't need to know . She seemed to be after me for everything these days. Now she would probably kill me. If she walked into the room, I would be cornered! I looked around, but the only thing that I could see was my mom?s closet, which I was forbidden to enter. But I just had to! Slowly I took a steady step forward. All of the sudden, I heard the maid?s firm steps march up the stairs. ?Where are you? Where are you?? her high-pitched voice echoed through the house. As quickly as I could, I ran towards the door making sure I wasn?t too loud. Thoughtfully, I stared at the handle. ?Do I really want to do this?? I asked myself. Just then the door knob to my mom?s room started to turn. It was the maid! Frantically I swung open the closet door, and with a second?s pause, I jumped into the closet, and shut the door behind me. Once I was inside, I rapidly spun around and peered out of the crack in between the doors. Without a warning, the bedroom door launched open. Not daring to breathe I watched, scared she would find me. I tried to look away, but my eyes were glued on the maid?s scarlet face. ?Where are you Sophia?? she whispered in a tempting tone, but I wouldn't fall for it, not this time. ?She?s going to find me,? I thought. There was only one thing to do: go further into the closet. So, slowly and solemnly I turned around and reached out to feel my mom?s thick leather coat. It was so frigid, I thought the world would freeze in front of my eyes. ?Ah!? I grumbled, the cold making me forget entirely about the maid. Suddenly, I heard the maid?s loud footsteps walk towards the closet. My blood turned cold. I couldn't move. The hand I had extended toward the coat hovered, trembling in mid-air. She declared, ?I know you are hiding in there.? Even though I couldn't see her, I knew she was staring right into the closet. At that second, my feet started running out of control. I couldn?t stop them, but I didn?t want to anyway. They were taking me as far away from her as possible. I wanted as much distance as possible between me and the maid. The farther I got into the closet, the darker it got. It darkened so much that pretty soon I couldn't tell if my eyes were opened or closed. As I kept running, I felt grateful that I wasn't afraid of the dark.
Just then I remembered something, and I forced my feet to a halt. There was no reason to keep going because the maid was afraid of the dark! Her plan was to simply wait me out, and that would be quite easy for her since my parents were gone on a cruise for a week. Plus, if I did tell my parents about everything that was happening, they wouldn't believe me. Besides the maid would punish me for ?telling?my parents too. There was nothing else I could do. As long as I was here, I should look around I thought looking toward my mom?s favorite dress. ?Shhhhhh? I heard silently from behind the soft cloth. The dress was moving! ?AAAAAAAAA!?, I cried at the top of my lungs. I leapt backwards as I stopped in my tracks. The maid had heard my yell. She had opened the closet door as wide as it went, and she had taken a couple steps inside. There was only one thing to do: go forward, further into the closet or else the maid would catch me. Cautiously, I walked toward the dress keeping my distance for fear of making ?it? angry . It looked like a curtain waltzing in the wind. How was it moving? Then, telling myself that I was not afraid, I boldly stepped forward, and... I started to giggle. Then the giggle turned to a laugh, and pretty soon I was rolling around on the hardwood floor howling. As it turned out, all it was was the wind pulsing against the thin lacy dress. As soon as I had recovered, I gazed at the dress again. It occurred to me something was wrong. My face turned pale, eyes opening wide... how did the wind get in the closet? For a moment, I thought over my discovery: was it bad or good? Whatever it was, I was urged to go on. ?Mysterious,? I thought. I walked on. I saw sunlight streaming through my mom?s silky cloaks. There really was a way out of this tunnel of a closet. As I walked on, I could feel the breeze pulsing my heart. I pushed away the last layer of clothes and stepped out. I was clearly not at home anymore. I looked around, ?where was I?? I could see the wind or at least I thought it was the wind. I saw what must have been a million spirits flying around. My jaw dropped. I slowly took a steady step forwards. I felt a rough vine under foot, and, with no time to think, I knocked my head against a great big pine tree. To my stunned surprise I heard a gruff voice, ?watch where you're going,? it scowled with no time to ask myself who or what it was. I immediately spun my head around. Before I could take in what I had seen, I got bashed in the head by something rough and hard. I was out cold!

IMAGINATIONCREATION THEREDWITCH
?Oh my gosh you got me a BORDER COLLIE, thank you Aunt Abby, I think I?ll call you Prince.? I jumped for joy. ?Also I got three more surprises, one here is 50 dollars, second here?s a dagger for any danger you get in like can?t use magic.? Aunt abby continued on.
Chapter 1
?Third, I know that I said that you don?t have to practice your spells since it is your birthday and all, but it would give me peace of mind if you did so.? Aunt Abby announced. She was such a sicker for the routine!
I wish that I was smart enough back then. But to tell you I have go all the way to the beginning.
We slumped out of the house and into the backyard where the spell casting practice ring was. I grabbed a one dollar bill and placed it on the ground.
By Anna Mahar (4E)
Ten years ago: ?Wakey Wakey eggs n?bakey.? Cousin Mary whispered in my ear. ?Yawn?was my sleepy first response. ?What is it?? I sleepily responded. ?Happy Birthday!?Mary yelled. ?Great, just another birthday closer to death.? I said. ?Well that is a bright way to see it.? Mary said sarcastically. ?Anyway, we don't have to do our spell-work since it is your 16th birthday today. Isn?t it great, Scarlet?? Mary screeched in my ears. Mary is legally blonde with dark blue eyes, a hare-sized brain (and that is an insult to hares). When she gets annoying like this, I can get past her like a sloth so slow she won't see me. Me, on the other hand, I am black haired with dark brown eyes they're almost black. I am also smarter than a cat. Oh, I forgot one really important thing for this story: we?re both witches! Responding to her comment about not needing to do our spell-work today, I smirked, ?Yeah, that is great for me, but not so great for you. You really need the practice.? I then added, playfully, ?You are going right. ?Cause I need to get dressed.?? I asked. Mary shrugged and ran down stairs while I got dressed. I love the people who are in my life, but the thing is: nobody understands me. No one knows what I am going through. There's one other thing you should know about me: I'm an orphan. I lost my parents years ago, and now I live with my Aunt Abby- who's doing her best to raise me. The weird thing about all of this is, is that I don't know how my parents died. ?Nobody, including my Aunt, will tell me,? I said to myself while getting dressed. After finishing, I went downstairs, hoping not to find a big mess everywhere. ?Ta-da! You see, I made breakfast, and I didn?t use an ounce of magic.? Mary showed me proudly. I was glad that she didn?t use magic because, since her magic isn?t so good, she could have burnt the house down. Chapter 2 After we ate and ate, we were full. That?s when aunt Abby strolled in, ?Happy birthday Scarlet. I got a present for you, come on out little guy.?
?Come on now let me see how you are doing with your spells.? I responded to her action. She despised doing spells. I backed away which is her signal to go ahead and try not to mess up. ?Trust me I am not going to mess up.? Mary replied. ?Small like an ant, green as a tree turn this one dollar bill into a red ruby.? She continued waving her hand over with rings and bracelets covering the bill. Just then, a flash of a bright light burned my eyes as I was afraid to look at the outcome. ?Oh great! I made it into a green, dead, infested piranha,? Mary remarked, sounding defeated.?Eww get rid of it. It is disgusting.? Mary shouted. ?Of course... I?m the one that always has to do this,? I replied. I hated having to always clean up their messes. ?Small like an ant, green as a tree... turn the piranha into a red ruby,? I continued. Another blinding flash came to my eyes. I watched the blindness escape my eyes, and started gazing at the enormous glistening red ruby that was now where the piranha used to be. ?Alright, time to turn it back in to a one dollar bill, Mary? I requested. ?Why can?t YOU change it back?? Mary asked. ?No, you have to improve on your spell sentencing, and focus on the object instead of shopping,? I commented. That was one of Mary?s main spell-casting problems: focus. She was always distracted by other, unimportant things like shopping. ?Alright. Big like a hill, red like blood, turn the red ruby ito a one dollar bill.? Mary chanted, waving her hand all over the place with her jewelery shaking. ?Oh my gosh what... not the dead piranha again!!?? she continued. This sort of scene was all too common. ?Arrrr,? The piranha screeched.?No he?s alive!!!? I remarked. ?Big like a mountain, red like a rose turn this red ruby in to a one dollar bill? I continued quickly.

READERSWRITE CHILOE: THENOT-SO-ADVENTUROUSISLAND by Briana Perez (Grade 3B) My dad slowly drove our car onto the ferry to go to Chiloe Island. I have never been on a ferry and this was my first time going to Chiloe. Chiloe is a small island off the coast of Chile. After the boat started to move we hopped out of the car to go see the water. The ocean was blue and beautiful. I really enjoyed the sight. It was finally time to drive off the boat. We jumped in the car and once again my dad drove slowly off the boat. We drove for a few minutes, but we didn't get to the cabins. I asked my dad how long it should be until we get to the cabins. He told me that we should be there in about an hour. AN HOUR! I thought. Wow, this island must be bigger than Easter Island! Chiloe island is actually much bigger! It is 118 miles by 40 miles and has a population of 155,000. Minutes later we saw a little blue church. We stepped out of the car to look at the church, but I wasn't very interested because it was so small. Later, we arrived into Castro, the capital of Chiloe. The population of Castro is 40,000. We drove into town and noticed a yellow church with a purple roof that looked like Candyland. The church was made out of tin, wood, glass, and brick. As we drove out of Castro we stopped to admire the houses on stilts. The houses looked really cool sitting above the water. The tide was really low and we were able to see marks on the stilts that show where the water was during hide tide. We hopped back into the car minutes and minutes past, finally we reached the cabins. Since I was so tired all I wanted to do when we entered the cabin was collapse into bed. I found a strange looking
fireplace I asked, ?What type of fireplace is that?? My dad responded, ?That is a really old fireplace.? Suddenly the man who owned the cabins knocked and came in. He showed us how to use the fireplace. We had dinner and went to bed. While I was in bed I wonder what we were going to do the next day. I woke up to the pitter-patter of rain. I asked my dad, ?What are we doing today?? He replied, ?We are taking a small ferry to a tiny island called Lemuy. ANOTHER FERRY!? I shouted. We headed toward the port to board the ferry. Shortly after the ferry arrived, my dad drove the car onto the ferry. This ferry was so small that we couldn?t even open the car doors to get out. Soon the ferry docked at Lemuy and we drove off the ferry. We drove around Lemuy looking at the tiny wooden churches. It was a beautiful quiet island even in the rain. We boarded the ferry once again to head back to Chiloe. Once we returned to the cabins, we ate supper and went to bed. In the morning, we ate breakfast and drove back to the port to get on the ferry to head back to Santiago. I hope I can return to the quaint, little, green island some day.

RESPONSIBLE
Sometimes, I wear responsibility like a coat. One day I have it on, and one day I do not. I woke up one day in the summer of 2012, and I did the usual routine. Then, my family and I went to my cousin?s house. I love my cousins, but when I?m stuck with them, I?m as hopeless as a person swimming in a tank full of sharks because they annoy you 24/ 7. We were all crowded into one little room, just my cousins, my sister, and me. We all just sat there until my girl cousin said, ?let?s play hide-and-seek.? I looked at my sister and gave her a nod. She did the same. My cousins and my sister were the ones hiding and obviously, I had to be the seeker. Afterward, it was time for me to find the pesky little rats. It was quiet until I heard screaming and giggles, so I ran downstairs as fast as a cheetah, and I saw a bag of confetti on the floor. There were more bags that lead to the kitchen. Once I got there, it was too late. There was confetti on the floor, the dog was inside the sink dressed like an elephant, and both of my cousins, ate my aunt?s chocolate cake that she made for her book club. It was a catastrophe, so I yanked both of my cousins by their arms like a giant pulling a house from its foundation. I tied them to a chair. It wasn?t my best idea ever, but it was the only thing I could do at the time. I felt the need to get things under control, and tying them to a chair was the only thing I could think of at that time. I stared at them for quite awhile, until I dozed off but later, I was woken up from the dog?s barking. It was a loud as a firefighter siren. The first thing I noticed was the chair wasn?t tied to anything. They had escaped. It was time to use my responsibility coat. I asked my older cousin for help. ?I heard them running in the hallway,? I said with a face as scared as the main character in the Conjuring. Unfortunately, it was like I was talking to a wall. He was so involved in his video game, that he was oblivious to me. ?THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!? I yelled sarcastically at his face. That jumped him right from his seat and onto the floor. I stormed right out of his room and kept on searching. It was like being inside a maze. I was clueless and nervous, but not for long. Later, I could keep hearing the giggling and the screaming again, and I knew where I was heading to the old and creepy storage room. By the time I managed to unlock the door, all I saw was my cousins and my sister waving goodbye. I was trying to get out, but before I knew it, I was locked in.
My eyes couldn?t believe it! I was locked into a tiny space by a seven year old, a five year old, and a three year old. All I did was wait until someone opened the door. It was all I could do. I justed waited, and waited, and waited until I heard the sweet sound of my grandmother calling out my name. I yelled, ?I?M IN HERE, INSIDE OF THE STORAGE ROOM!? She opened the door, and I was finally free. I hugged her, and kept on looking for the ?Three Stooges.? While I was searching for the trio, I realized that someday, I?m going to grow up and I have to wear that ?Responsibility Coat? every single day. That was all that I could think of, and out of nowhere, someone jumped on my back and hollered out, ?BOO!? Guess who it was. The leader of the pack, Vanessa. She yanked me by the arm and ragged me like a little rag doll. She took me into her play room. That was when I realized why there was confetti on the floor, why the dog was dressed like an elephant, and why there were giggling. They had made a huge circus. It was the most colorful room you had ever seen. The orange and white tent stood like a giant, the confetti was flying around the room like little raindrops, and the snacks smelled like heaven. I opened my mouth but nothing came out. They hugged me as hard as a bear. They both said, ?Look, we?re really sorry we locked you into the closet, but on the bright side Grandma found the key!? They were acting like God?s sweetest angels. I was about to take off the ?Responsible Coat,?but I didn?t want to. Instead I was going to step up my game and act like the responsible person I had to be. I asked my cousins to sit down. ?You two need to know this lesson, and I?m going to tell you now, so listen carefully.? They looked really nervous, but I didn?t let that stop my conversation, so I kept on. ?One day, you?re going to grow up and your parents won?t be there to help you, so from now on, you have to start being responsible.? They looked at me and started to laugh. ?Responsible, us?? Vanessa looked at me with a face saying, I don?t care. I frowned and I thought to myself that maybe they were right. Maybe I was the one who had to change. I had to be responsible. It was the most confusing thought of my life. My brain was frozen and my head didn?t know how to respond to this. I decided to put on the coat and never take it off. I played with my cousins until it was time to go home. I zipped up the coat and smiled.

HOWTO
HOWTOBEAGOODSPORTINSOCCER
by Nico Duggan (Grade 2) and Nicolas Rios (grade 4F) Photos by Ameer Najarali (grade 4F) Have you ever been mean to a friend while competing during a soccer game? Or have you encountered a 'bad sport' while playing soccer? This article will teach you and that very competitive friend of yours how to be a better sport. To begin, all good sports and athletes follow the rules because you could really hurt someone if you don?t. In fact, you could get yourself in trouble or even hurt yourself. Not following the rules could earn you a yellow card or prove worse, a red card. Next, you always have to try to have fun because whoever has fun are the ones that really win. If players or fans yell at you, never yell back. Is yelling fun? No. You can?t win unless you?re having fun. If someone makes a mistake, don?t look at them dirty or scream because really, all you?re doing is hurting his feelings. Last of all, pass the ball. If you keep the ball the whole match nobody will want to pass the ball to you and you can end up on the bench. We hope you follow these instructions wherever you are playing and whenever you?re playing because if you do, you will have more fun, or in other words, you will win. 22
WORLDOFART JURASSICPARKVS. STARWARS
by Thomas Gillibrand (grade 5C)
What is the greatest sci-fi story of all-time? Some people think its the great sci-fi movie Star Wars, while others prefer the bring-dinosaurs-to-life movie, Jurassic Park. But really which is the best one? I have heard friends and family say stuff like ?Star Wars is better, that?s why they have so many movies and more to come.? While others tend to say: ?Jurassic Park is better because the idea of bringing dinos to life, has been within the archeologists for centuries. This movie has made that idea true.? After those two comments its a struggle even for me to decide which one is really better. After analyzing the Star Wars saga, I've collected enough data from characters, to a slick summary of the 6 movies. Characters are crucial for a movie to be successful, and this saga is full of memorable ones- from the famous RD-D2 to the fuzzy Ewoks. Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader), Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Yoda, Emperor Palpatine, Jabba the Hut and Count Dooku are just some of the other main characters that make Star Wars one of the most successful movies in history.
his two children, Luke Skywalker and Leia Skywalker, left alone in different galaxies. When they finally meet, they decide to destroy the villain?s (Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine) main base (death star) for a second time, with help from the fabulous Ewoks. Now comes the moment of one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen, called Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park is a movie based on the idea of bringing dinos to life, but when envy infects one of the Safety Room control characters, the dinos are accidentally freed... and they are hungry! My experience in loving dinos came with these movie characters. Having the awesome, but deadly T-Rex going against the car with characters Tim and Lex in it was just mind blowing. While velociraptors role in the movie # 3 was incredibly astonishing with the raptors opening and closing doors to get to their eggs. When researching public ratings of the movies I wasn't in agreement, considering the lowest rate of 6/ 10 went to movie # 3 of the Jurassic Park series but thats just how people think. Now the ratings were 8/ 10 for the first one, 7/ 10 for the second one and finally 6/ 10 for the third one. Now for non-informed readers I made a summary for the jurassic park series: Archeologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler get invited to a Jurassic Theme Park were dinos are brought back to life with a group of other people (Ian, Tim and Lex). But when envy gets in the way setting free the greatest reptiles of all times. Thats were the greatest battle begins, dinos vs humans which goes on through all 3 movies.
After deep researching and browsing websites, the average ratings for the Star Wars saga were about 9/ 10 for the old movies and a 7/ 10 for the new ones. Those facts don?t influence my mind about which movie is really better, but it does give a big clue to what other people think about the Star Wars series. Really I haven't told you what Star Wars is about, so I made this summary for non-informed readers: A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away lived a jedi and his padawan (Obi-Wan Kenobi) who crash into a desert planet, Tatooine, where they meet a kid called Anakin Skywalker who they think is ?The Chosen One.? But, after a hard dispute with his jedi-trainer, Obi-Wan Kenobi, he chooses to go to the dark side leaving
After all that analyzing I've made a decision in which of these two classic sci-fi sagas is better. Is it the Star Wars saga or the Jurassic Park saga? My decision is the Star Wars saga. At first the Jurassic Park saga seemed much better, but the deal is the Star Wars saga is much bigger in the sense of characters, ratings, and reviews. Then I thought and said some people may disagree and still prefer the Jurassic saga but this is just my opinion and anyone can have a different one. In the end, my decision came down to the fact that Star Wars changed everything. It changed the way special effects were used in movies, how sci-fi was seen as a genre, and made the biggest fan base in movie history as you can see by the excitement for movie 7, which is coming out in December of this year. But, that?s all just my opinion- so, after watching the movies, which do you think is better?

WORLDOFART
(The Batmobile is destroyed) Dang it!? ?To the Invisible Jet! (The Invisible Jet is destroyed) Dang it!? Another ingredient to The Lego Movie some of you may like are the voices. I don't feel like revealing all of them, but here are a few. Chris Pratt of Parks and Rec voices Emmet, Will Ferrell voices Lord Business. The Lego Movie is not only entertaining, but it has a powerful message too. I hope you all go and see this movie.

PIANOAROUNDTHEWORLD by Naomi Templeman [ Grade 2A ]
by Alex Arthur (grade 3D) So, I see you have found this review. The review, of, the, LEGO MOVIE!!! Did you know it was created entirely out of photo animation? It must have taken years! The movie begins with Emmet an ?ordinary? construction worker, but in an amazing twist of fate, he is blown down a hole and his town of Bricksburg will never be the same again. He finds the piece of resistance and is taught that Lord Business is going to cragglize (glue together) Bricksburg. After being sentenced to ?melting? for high treason, and being rescued by Wildstyle, the special embarks on a journey across the universe
My favorite scene of the Lego Movie was the Old West. I liked the humor, Pig Chariot, and the Head Wheel. My favorite lines were: ?Ok. I think i got it, but i wasn't listening, so repeat the whole thing again.? ?But, guys, were stuck in the middle of the ocean. Its not like a giant ship is going to come out of nowhere and OH MY GOSH!!? ?To the Batmobile!
Do you wonder where to take piano lessons here in Chile? Well you?re in luck. I am learning piano from the best place. It?s not really a place it is actually a site. It is called Music Lessons Anywhere. You can actually lea piano wherever you are in the world. You just use the app, FaceTime, to connect with the teacher. The teacher?s name is Tracy. She has 42 students from places like Spain, India, and Australia. Currently, Ms. Tracy has four spots available! During lessons you can play games, learn songs, or work on your scales. The games are competitions where you need to name notes under 5 seconds. For songs, you practice and play your songs on your homework list. You also need to name notes and do scale songs. There is a performance once each year! You can play any song for the performance, even one?s that you created. You can watch all performances on YouTube. The ages of students on Music Lessons Anywhere are from age six to seventy. Ms. Tracy loves songs brainstormed and created by her students. You can get more information on Facebook. Maybe one day, we can be in the same performance together. 24
WACKYPAGE THETALONMADLIB b y Del Cartwright (Grade 3A)
This might be the first Mad Lib you?ve ever seen. Don?t worry, I?ll explain how it works. First, ask a friend if they want to play. Don?t let them see the the story, but ask the clues below each blank space. Write their answers in the blanks, and then share the story they created. LOL. WACKYPAGE By Tymon Hendershott (3E) I was inspired by my friend Kai who likes to make jokes and that got me thinking about jokes to put in this issue of The Talon.
How do you put an elephant in a fridge? You open the fridge door, put the elephant inside, and close the fridge door. How do you put a giraffe in a fridge?
If you like making jokes then go to thetalon@nido.cl, and then click the link for the Wacky Page. I have learned lots of jokes from reading jokebooks. There are two cows in a field, the first says ?Moo? and the second says ?I was going to say that.
You open the fridge take the elephant out, and put the giraffe in. A lion invites all the the animals to a party, which animal does not go to the party? The giraffe because it was in the fridge. A women swam through crocodile infested water. Why didn?t she die? The crocodiles were at the party. Why do seagulls fly over the sea?
When the woman got out of the water, why did she die? A falling brick hit her on the head.
...because if they flew over the bay they would be bagels.
And, last but not least, a classic Knock, Knock joke: Knock knock Who?s there
There are 100 bricks on a plane, 1 brick falls off, there are 99 left.
Distractible wolf. Distractib? SHEEP! 26

Making Our Work Real: Advertising in The Talon You may have noticed the advertising in this issue of The Talon. We're proud to work with Nido's Aquatics Program and Papa John's Pizza to help us meet a goal that we have set for ourselves: we want to be a self-sufficient magazine that helps us "give our readers a chance to think, feel, laugh, and connect with each other." To become self-sufficient, we are selling advertising space to Nido community organizations and local businesses. Our hope is to raise enough funds from these advertisements to pay for color printing, purchase the special cameras needed for The Talon's Student Design Team, and pay for any other specialized equipment and resources we need to make our magazine and webazine (thetalon.nido.cl). More important than the money raised from these advertisements is the real-world experience our Student Marketing Team is gaining from pitching our magazine space to adult business people. Our Student Marketing Team has researched magazine advertising, and has Skyped with Marketing professionals from some large local magazines to figure out the best ways to put together a polished pitch to these professionals. Students have had to speak with clarity and confidence, use data to persuade, and have had to negotiate pricing... just like what happens in the real-world. If you know a Nido community organization and/ or a local business that might be interested in advertising in future issues of The Talon, please encourage them to contact our Student Marketing Team at our email (thetalon@nido.cl).
