TheColor Beats By: Victoria Rios (grade 3) A few months ago, my friends and I formed a band called the Color Beats. We just started our songwriting unit and we realized we needed more people. The current band members include: Victoria Kennedy, Ines Lores, Candela Allepuz, Ines Enciso, and me. We are all from the class 3C. We are especially looking for a drummer, but we accept any instrument you have. The instruments we have right now are, 1 ukulele, 2 guitars, and 2 pianos. We already had our classroom tryouts but later on we will have tryouts for all classes and grades. The actual creators are, me, Ines Lores and Candela Allepuz. The band practices are on second recesses for 3rd graders and at 12:20 for other grades. It takes place outside the library and if its someones birthday or it's a special occasion we celebrate by playing a game or writing a song about it. Some days we skip practice because someone was not there so if you don't come to school then don't worry about us moving on without you. If you go to the tryouts and you don't get in the band then it's probably because there was too much people. I recommend that you play a portable instrument so that it's easier to bring to practice. You don't need to only be a musician, you can also just sing. This band offers you a chance to socialize, make more friends, and a chance to show other people your talent. You can sign up for the tryouts by writing your first name and last name on the sign up sheets that we will put up this month and we will continue to hang them up for about 2 or 3 months. Band members also need to help with getting our band more well known including: Making posters, making announcements about our band, spreading conversations to other students and teachers, and helping with material for our songs. The posters normally are going to be handmade but if you find anything else like a website, an app, a program, etc.etc., you can use that to help. In the band we will also need some other jobs, for example, we will need: Organizers, Decorators, Artists, Planners, and ?assistants?. The organizers will help us organize: events, parties, practices, and activities. The decorators will help us by: decorating our instruments, deciding what we will wear if the band likes it, and designing the clothes wear options. The artists will help with: making posters, drawings, and taking different photos. The planners will: help us plan special occasions, events, and parties. Finally, the ?assistants? will: buy or bring materials, call in meetings, and help us improve. We might pay every once in a while but only if you are making effort and being loyal. If you are messing around or not helping at all then we will kick you out of the band. You also need to know the rules that we have. The rules we have include: 1. 2. 3.

If anyone is breaking any of the rules then report it to someone and we will talk to them. Once everyone is done with the tryouts and we have a group for each job, we will vote for a leader or a ?Big boss?. The way this will work is we will see who wants to run for leader, then we will each write who we want to be leader and it cannot be yourself. If you do vote for yourself than you will automatically be eliminated for running for leader. But each job will have a group in it so each group will have one leader. The band is for boys and girls so you can have a little mix up. If you are not happy with being in the band then you can tell someone and we will ask you to explain why you want to leave the band. If someone leaves the band then we will redo the tryouts. You really need to make sure that you want to be in the band because if you join it and change your mind then no one will want you to leave. Just in case you don't have a portable instrument, we will ask a music teacher if we can use their classroom. If you have stage fright or feel uncomfortable performing in front of other people then you can tell us and we can replace you for that occasion. Do you think you are a creative person? If you do than you should definitely join the Color Beats. We need creative people to help us come up with wacky, extraordinary, and unique ideas. If you do not get in the band then don't be ashamed and remember everyone did an amazing job. I know what you might be thinking, ?i?m not joining a third grade band!?, but wait, we can do more than what it looks like. We are all talented and we can sound really good if we work really hard. In the tryouts we will have an interview and some tasks for you to complete. The questions and tasks are going to be revealed at the tryouts. We are thinking about being in the talent show but we need to officially decide that after the band is complete. The tryouts are only for kids in elementary school. If you are not free at 12:20 then we will try and do practice after school at someones house because we are not allowed to practice after school at Nido De Aguilas. If you are a third grader then you might need to miss your 2nd recess. If you don't want to miss your 2nd recess then we will definitely do practice after school. We will do anything possible to make you happy if you get into the band. You can always count on us to have your back, defend you, and comfort you. If we notice you are misbehaving at school then you might get kicked out. If you skip the tryouts then there will be consequences and you won't be able to join the band on any condition. You can always be honest with us and tell us what you need to and we won't be mad or tell anyone. If you were wondering the date and time of the tryouts, the day is and the time is . So after this, think of joining the Color Beats, you won't regret it.

Some animals are cute and look like stuffed animals, but inside of these creatures there is a poisonous and dark thing is inside them. Today I will show you 3 cute animals that are dangerous: # 1 Loris Sloth- This cute creature is the only poisonous mammal in the world. Its toxin is released from the sides of its elbows. when threatened, the loris sloth takes the toxin into its mouth and mixes it with saliva. The animal will also lick its hair to discourage predators or people from attack.

# 2 Philippine Cobra-the venom of the philippine cobra is a dangerous. It can paralyse a human.

# 3 Hippopotamus- Many people think the hippo is dumb, slow, fun loving, and peaceful. While they are usually peaceful creatures, these 9,000 pound animals also protect their territory. They kill more humans on average each year than all African animals combined. This is a massive statistic when you think about it. 6

HOW-T O HOW-TOMAKESLIME By Candela Allepuz (Grade 3)

Click click. Ahhh. Nothing better than a new batch of slime!

To make slime you will need: Glue, Ariel laundry detergent, food coloring (optional), shaving cream, and glitter witch is also optional. The glue works to make the slimes base ingredient. The Ariel laundry detergent is for it to bond with the glue and for the slime to get together. The food coloring is for the slime to be colorful and more childish. The shaving cream is for the slime to be fluffy. The glitter is for the slime to sparkle endlessly when your in the sun. Steps to make Slime: 1. Add two cups of glue. 2. Add four drops of food coloring. 3. Go crazy with the glitter. 4. Stir until you get the color you want. 5. When you are done stirring you add the shaving cream and stir until the ?slime? looks like melted marshmallows. 6. Slowly add in the laundry detergent and stir. (don?t add too much detergent or your slime will turn into a rubber glove.) 7. Enjoy your time playing with slime. Here is some slime.

HOW-T O HOWTOFINDAHOBBY By Ines Lores (Grade 3) If you're stuck trying to find some hobby I understand. It is difficult to find a way to enjoy spending your free time. I decided to research this topic and I can share what I found. Hopefully, you?ll get some ideas. What I do sometimes when I don't have a hobby or I don't know what to do is I look at my siblings and see what they are doing. If I like what my siblings are doing, I just copy them. That can be one way to find a hobby, but if I don't like what my siblings are doing, I have a list of hobbies below. You can make one and if you don't know much hobbys you're invited to copy some of my ideas so here are some of my favorites. Cooking: Some of my favorite dishes are tacos,donuts, lasagna and pizza you can even learn to make pizza dough. If you want to make it you will need the following (flour,water,yeast,eggs,oil and salt.) Camping: Camping is when someone or a group of people like your friends go outside, do activities and sleep in a tent. You need a lot of materials to survive the night like bug repellent, a small flashlight, a pillow a sleeping bag blanket and lots of other camping supplies.You usually have a campfire when you are camping. Here is a list of hobbies you might like Fishing Swimming Cooking Climbing Jogging or even doing exercise This summer if you have a lot of time on your hands I would recommend you to go and find a hobby.

HOW-T O HOW-TOMAKEVANILLACINNAMONCAKEPOPS (By: Candela Allepuz 3C) What is a ball, but tastes like cake? Cake pops is the answer. And today I will teach you how to make the delicious sweet tasting pastries in a vanilla flavor. STEP #1: Gather your ingredients: -

225 g self raising flour

Vanilla

Cinnamon

Cake pop maker

A bowl

3 spoons

225 g of solid butter

225 grams of sugar and a plate

2. Add 225 g of softened butter and 225 g of sugar. And stir. 3. Add 225 g of self raising flour carefully and stir. 4. Add 3 and a half spoons of cinnamon and vanilla. And stir 5. Add the bater to the cake pop maker and leave for 4 minutes. Eat and enjoy the cake pops for Christmas, New Years Eve, or any other summer holiday!

Step # 2 Next you will make a hole.The hole like the size of your finger Step # 3 Then you will put water.I will recommend you to put like 5cm Step # 4 Second wait a few week.Mostly like 1 week.And remember to take the leave that do not work and put water and of course leave it in the sun.

Type of plant you can make is optional lavender,mint,rose,sunflower and ext. If you have a hard time doing your plant I recommend to see in youtube video of how to plant or tell someone expert.That you know it can maybe be your friend,and hope you enjoy planting and have fun with a good ice cream.

Did you know that gymnastics is one of the oldest sports? It was invented in 1839. Stretching is a important part of gymnastics start by stretching your body so when you do gymnastics you don't get hurt. First do a split and if you don't know how to do a split just try to do a split. When you already did a split lay down on your chest.And there is much more stretching skills This is the stretching skill I mentioned. Gymnasts wear leotards and also wear shorts and a top not only a leotard to do gymnastics and boys wear a t-shirt and stirrup pants. Sometimes boys wear shorts too. Gymnasts compete with other schools and get medals and trophies. Medals are made of gold, silver and bronze . First place gets the gold trophy,second place gets the silver trophy, and the third place gets the bronze trophy. Now that you now how to do gymnastics try it out. It is one of my favorite sports and I know you will like it too.

S PORT S How Was Soccer Created By Julieta Vergara (Grade 4) Soccer is a sport between two teams of eleven players with a ball and is known as football in most countries outside of Australia and the United states. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world?s most popular sport.

Soccer was created in LONDON in the 1860?s. The first game was played in February, 1863 between Barnes Football club and Richmond Football club. FIFA was created in France 1904.

Records trace the history of soccer, or kicking a ball into a net, back more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China, Greece, Rome, and parts of Central America. But it was England that transitioned soccer or what the British and many other people around the world call ?football?, into the game we know today. WHEN DID GIRLS BECOME SOCCER STARS? The first organized women?s soccer league in the United States was the Craig Club Girls Soccer League, was consisted of four Teams in St.Louis. The first women?s World Cup took place in China in the year 1991.

Maradona by (grade 2) Diego Armando Maradona is an Argentinean soccer player that many soccer fans think is a total cheater. He used his hand (and don't forgot this is soccer) in 1986 to score a goal against England in the World Cup in Mexico in the quarter final. That cost England the potential of winning the match and going on to the semi-finals. Argentina went on to win the World Cup in Mexico.

S PORT S SKATEBOARDINGISAWESOME By Matilde Jarpa (Grade 2) Skateboarding is a fun sport you can do when you are bored. You can practice lots of tricks like an ollie, three sixty, and more. If you fall down you can keep doing it you can use GROWTH MINDSET If you keep practising you can get better and better until you could even become a professional. If you try skateboarding, you will love it. Bill Richard invented skateboarding.The skateboards were called sidewalk surfing for the first time. The skateboards are made of wood and metal.There are lots of types of skateboards like pennys, downhill skateboards,the polyprop, the slalom board, and other ones. You NEED to have patience to learn. At first I was a BIG fail at skateboarding but each time I practiced I got better and better. You can go to any skate park you want. I like to go to pump truck.The pump truck is a little skate park where you skateboard. So drop your bags or what ever you have and buy a skateboard and start riding.

IMA GINA T ION CREA T ION LOSTINALBERTEINSTEIN'SBRAIN By Isabella Rosso (Grade 3) Lily woke up to a glowing sunrise and quickly got ready for school. She thought today would be a memorable day and she skipped out the door. While Lilly was walking to school she bumped into the famous scientist, Albert Einstein. She was really nervous because she never been in front of a famous scientist before and what would her friends say. She left with him to his lab after school. She made a few experiments. Afterwards, something very weird happened. There was a portal on Einstein?s forehead, a big fog spread around her.Then Lilly got sucked in: SHE WAS IN ALBERT EINSTEIN?S BRAIN! She felt very disgusted of course, because she was in a brain! She was also terrified, and scared because she had no way to get out. She was worried. Einstein?s brain was incredible! There was his cerebrum, brain stem, cerebellum, his imagination, ideas, information, he had many facts, and memories. Like one of her memories was his dad that passed away and also some facts were 123347+56789=____ She needed to get back home at 5:00pm for dinner. She looked at her watch, it was 3:00 pm, she only had two hours to find a way out she started kicking, but it was no use she tried using her karate moves for 20 minutes but it was no use. Then, she gave up she fell over and took a little nap. Lilly woke up and looked at her watch it was 4:00 she had to do something, so she thought and thought until an idea came up, she just needed some materials. She looked in her backpack because she had just get out of school.

Lilly had headphones, an iPad, her turquoise lunch box, a needle, and also a rope. ?What to do? ? she wondered. She then took the rope and tied it to the needle. Then she took the iPad, and connected to the other side of the rope. The commands that came from the iPad would travel through the holes in the rope and it would reach the needle. The last part was connecting the headphones to the needle and pressing it against the wall of the brain. Her idea was that the brainwave commands would travel through Albert?s brain and he would follow the commands and pull Lilly out of his brain, but it didn?t work. So she walked around Einstein?s brain. While she was walking around she found a password lock. She tried 1235, 1234, 9877, 4565, but none of them worked. She found a little note that said its only numbers 1 to 3 she tried all the possible answers she even looked it up in her Ipad but it wasn't any of those. Lily gave up she put her shoulder leaning on the password lock her shoulder slid of and typed in 123 which was the only one she didn?t type in. A big portal opened and sucked Lilly out of Albert's brain. Finally Lilly was out! She looked at her watch it was 5:55 she rushed out to dinner. While she was eating her dinner she thought, ?Oh man I forgot to steal his ideas to be a smarty pants at her school.? But he felt relieved because she finally got out of his brain and she was almost going to give up. 17

IMA GINA T ION CREA T ION Magical Story (by Ana Pollak 4E) Once there lived a little fairy called Water Crystal with a pink skirt and a yellow shirt. But one day a human started looking for fairies so he could steal and keep their fairy dust so that he be magical. Water Crystal, the fairy, tried to escape but she couldn't so she called her gigantic, ogor friend. Her ogor friend could scare the human and her fairy dust would be safe. But he didn?t scare the human. Tom the human just grabbed the ogre and trapped the ogre in his suitcase. Water Crystal didn?t have anybody that would keep her safe. So she started to run until she heard loud footsteps following her she. It was Tom the human that was following her. So she hid under a flower. Once she was hidden the footsteps stopped. She was really scared. So when the footsteps left she stopped by the magic river to drink water when suddenly she heard somebody behind her. It was Tom! He grabbed her and put her in his suitcase. Well guess what happened ? she found her ogor friend inside Tom?s suitcase. And suddenly she saw the suitcase was a little bit open. So she tried to jump to the hole but it was to high. So she jumped on top of the ogor and jumped to the hole and could get out. So when she got out she opened the suitcase and helped the ogor the scramble out. Then they jumped out and got into the forest and into the fairy?s house. Water Crystal started telling the hole story to her friends now that she and the ogor were safe.

She frowned and stared at the floor in her violet pajamas with peach polka-dots. ?They get to wear whatever they want,? complained Maddie. She quickly checked her phone and ended up wearing a dark blue skirt with a green tank top, just like Emma posted on her Instagram that morning. Emma was the most popular and stylish person in the whole Moonlight Ranch High School. Later that morning as her bus pulled up to the front steps of the school, she saw Gracie wearing a braid and so she quickly made a french braid in her hair before her BFF?s could spot her. The girls met in the breeze way. They did their lucky handshake that involved a kiss on the cheek and rushed to art class. The art teacher, Ms.Penelope, told the students that they could each make a painting of a type of flower. Gracie chose a purple lily, Emma chose a white rose, and, of course, Maddie choose a White Rose just like Emma. She tried to hide her work so that her friends wouldn?t discover that she had been copying Emma. A few minutes later, Maddie was already moving on to her next period, Math. In math, the teacher, Mr.Hessenheffer, handed out a pop quiz. Gracie was the smartest girl in math class. For example, once, the teacher asked a question for a university student, and Gracie got the exact answer. So of course, Maddie sat next to her and HAD to copy

the answers off Gracie?s paper. When Maddie arrived home, her sister went into Maddie?s room and snatched Maddies phone. Maddie wanted to strangle her sister, Mackenzie, but her mom was there and she would get grounded. The next day she went to school and noticed that Emma and Gracie weren?t there. She didn?t know what to do and panicked when she got to Mr. Hessenheffer class. Today they had a test that Maddie hadn?t studied for because she was too busy checking her Instagram to see what to wear the next day. The absence continued four months and she got worried. A few hours later she arrived home she saw on the news that the plane that Emma and Gracie were on had crashed, and nobody survived except a flight attendant. She was so disappointed that her friends passed away and decided to find her own likes and dislikes. She started by taking out all the clothes that she had bought for copying her friends. Then she went to the mall to find colors that she liked. She bought loads of clothes. Finally she tried them on and she looked fabulous. She even re-decorated her room. She also stopped following Emma on Instagram so that she would not copy her anymore. ?I finally have my own style!? Maddie thought to herself. Remember to always be yourself no matter what. 19

IMA GINA T ION CREA T ION DreamingAbout AnImaginedWorld By Olivia Neuhauser (Grade 3) On a cheerful, glowing morning, Sarah woke up in her bed with her dog, Neon on her lap. Neon was a white labrador with brown spots, always by Sarah?s side. Sarah rose from her bed, put on her slippers, and was ready for the weekend.

?Mmmm? ? She mumbled again. As the moon rose above the pine trees, Sarah was in her room, stuffing herself into her bed, dressed in her unicorn pj?s. ?Good night mom!? She screamed. In a flash, she was fast asleep. It was a tiring day that day, so she couldn?t help it. ?Zzzzzzzzz? ..? ?Zzzzzzzzzzz? ..? She snored.

The first activity she was going to do on the weekend was go biking with her dad, Aaron. They were leaving at 2:00pm, so that meant she still had two hours because it was 12:00 noon. With lots of time, Sarah lazily walked down the curvy steps of her house, towards the kitchen. ?Good morning, dear,? said her mother cheerfully.? ?Good morning, mother,? Sarah answered politely.? She then looked into the cupboard, and took out the Lucky Charms cereal box. They were her favorite type of cereal. From the wooden shelf, she took out a pink, marble bowl. She took out the milk from the fridge, poured it into the bowl, and then dumped in the Lucky Charms. She then took out a spoon, stuffed it in the bowl, and started chewing her delicious treat.

She was dreaming about this magical dream land, and everything that she dreamed of, appeared on the island. If she thought of unicorns, they would appear, and where they appeared, there would appear a magical island just for that. If she dreamed of oreos, there would be a Oreo Island. If she dreamed of candy, Candy-Land would appear. But there was one dream that she dreamed of that there was no island for. She dreamed of her being on that island, and her person appeared on Oreo Island! ?Hello?? she asked in her soft, sweet, voice. Nobody responded. ?Hello?? she asked again, but nobody answered this time either. Until suddenly, she saw a face poke out. It looked like an oreo! Sarah was confused. Never in her life had she seen a person made out of oreos. Then, the whole oreo jumped out.

?Honey, how is your cereal?? asked her mother. ?Hi!? he said in his silly voice. ?Mmmhhhfff? ? she gurgled, with her mouth full of cereal. ?Okay, does that mean it?s good?? her mom questioned.

?My name is John!? ?Umm? hi?? Sarah responded. ?My name is Sarah.? she said under her breath. 20

Then, suddenly, John got closer to Sarah and here?s what he said: ?Do you like oreos?? he said. ?Yes.? Sarah said back. ?I l-o-v-e them!? ?Follow me, i?ll take you to oreo grove, where oreos grow everywhere, and when you take one, another one magically pops out and replaces it. It?s like the oreos are never-ending.? John whispered.

the way to unicorn island. The first unicorn Sarah saw, was the cutest thing ever! It had pink fluffy wings, a beautiful white body, and a rainbow tail and a rainbow mane. To her surprise, it spoke! ?Hello, what is your name?? she said in a soft voice. ?My, my name is Sarah.? she mumbled. ?Sarah, what a beautiful name!? she responded. ?My name is Comet.? she said.

Sarah was excited. She followed John until suddenly, he stopped.

Sarah looked at her watch. It was almost six in the morning.

?What happened?? Sarah asked. ?I have to wake up!? She said to Comet and John. ?We are here.? John responded. ?Get ready to blow your mind!?

?Come back again!? they said together.

Sarah watched as John pulled up a oreo branch, and it showed off a beautiful oreo grove. Sarah ran towards the oreo grove, and fell into it.

?One more question? well, actually two. So, first question. Comet, can you make me a stuffed animal of you??

?This is the best? ? ?...mmm, mmm, mmm!? she said in a muffled voice.

?Well, of course!? she responded with a grin on her face.

?We need to go!? John shouted. ?I?m going to give you a tour of the islands!?

?Second question, will I still have these oreos when I wake up from this dream??

?You can take some to go!? He said.

?Well of course! It?ll be under your pillow.?

John pulled out a small bowl out of his pocket. It had a top. This was perfect for Sarah. She ran over to John, swiped the bowl from his hands, took some oreos, and put them into the bowl. Before they left, she couldn?t forget to put the top on, so that her precious oreos didn?t fall. They walked all

?OK. Thanks for the tour John. and thanks for the stuffed animal, Comet! I?ll guard it with my life.? She woke up and John was right, the oreos were under her pillow. It was an amazing dream that she had that night. 21
