Beginning October 1, 2026, RushShelby Energy will implement updated electric rates. The sample bill comparisons on the next page show how the current and new rates may affect monthly bills at different levels of energy use, though each member’s actual impact will vary based on usage. As you review the comparison, it may be helpful to understand the main charges that make up your electric bill.
What is the Connection Charge
The Connection Charge is a fixed monthly charge that helps cover a portion of the cost of having electric service available to your home or business, including poles, lines, meters, equipment, and other infrastructure needed to provide reliable service. The monthly Connection Charge for residential rates will remain $55.
What is the Energy Charge?
The Energy Charge is based on the amount of electricity you use each month, measured in kilowatt hours (kWh). As part of the new rate structure, a base portion of power costs previously collected through the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) has been incorporated into the Energy Charge, helping the charge more closely reflect the current cost of providing electricity.
What is the Power Cost Adjustment?
The Power Cost Adjustment, or PCA, reflects changes in the actual cost of wholesale power RushShelby Energy purchases from Hoosier Energy. The PCA will continue to appear on your monthly bill to reflect any future changes in wholesale power costs, which may increase or decrease over time.

Why Are Rates Changing?
As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, RushShelby Energy sets rates based on the cost of providing safe, reliable electric service. Our current rates have been in place since April 2023. The updated rates are based on the most recent rate study, which reviewed financial and operating data. Since that study, several major costs have continued to change, including wholesale power, equipment, materials, and the infrastructure needed to maintain the electric system. Updating rates helps ensure they more closely reflect current costs while supporting the reliability and financial strength of your cooperative. Because every member uses electricity differently, the impact of the rate adjustment will vary. Review the included sample bill comparisons to see how the new rates may affect your monthly electric bill.
What Hasn’t Changed?
While our rates are changing, our commitment to our members has not. As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, RushShelby Energy remains focused on providing safe, reliable electric service while managing costs responsibly. Any margins earned by the cooperative will continue to be allocated to members as Capital Credits.
