The Sunshine Coast is well known for its holiday appeal, becoming the number one ‘Most Loved Destination in the World’ of 2022 according to the Tourism Sentiment Index. It’s not hard to see why, with close to 300 days of sunshine per year, 52 km of open coastline, 39,835 hectares of national parks, state forests and forest reserves. There are plenty of accommodation options including quaint beachside camp grounds and caravan parks.
The beaches are some of the best in the world, mostly patrolled by surf lifesavers, with big stretches of white sand and sparkling warm waters. Look to the west and your eyes grow wide with views of the stunning Glass House Mountains. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is breathtaking, with rolling country hills, rainforests, waterfalls and quaint country villages. Located just 90 km north of Brisbane, with its own international airport.

Alexandra Headland, known by the locals as ‘Alex’, is a beachside suburb right next door to the popular tourist destination, Mooloolaba on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
With several takeaway food options directly across from the beach, a beachside café at the base of the bustling Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club, playgrounds to suit all ages, a skate park and picturesque white sandy beach with rolling surf. Alex is the perfect destination to pull up on a park bench or lay down a rug for an afternoon picnic.
Picnics aren’t all about chips and dips, it’s about taking time out, getting outdoors and exploring somewhere new. Enjoy a beautiful afternoon with friends and family, your loved one or just by yourself. This guide will uncover the local secrets, on how to enjoy a fun filled, relaxed or celebratory picnic at Alexandra Headland.

Relax and watch the surfers scoring waves off the rocky headland known as ‘The Bluff’, then take in the spectacular sunset views over Mount Coolum in the distance.
Enjoy a good book, your favourite podcast, or just close your eyes and let your senses do the talking.
As you’re breathing in that fresh salt air, your mind will shift gears and reflect on the many things you have to be grateful for - from family and friends, to a roof over your head and the sand between your toes. Let the usual distractions of life fall away and allow your mind to wander.
Fresh air, sunshine and a nice sea breeze are the key ingredients to a happier you. Getting a good dose of sunshine will be a mood booster that even the best coffee can’t beat.
Speaking of coffee, why not visit the coffee shop at the Alex Surf Club or take a short walk across the road for a take away coffee and a delicious and nourishing acai bowl.

Wondering how to make the most of the summer months and spend more time with your friends and have fun? A playful picnic at Alexandra Headlands could be exactly what your looking for.
Bring a surfboard and hit the point break. The headland provides a wave that requires plenty of cutbacks and can be fun for less experienced surfers. At the tip of the point break at beach access 166 is The Bluff, favoured by many locals and home of the longboarding and Mal Club.
Don’t fret if you forget your wax, or want to try out a new board.
The Alex Surf Shop and Beach Beat Alexandra Headland are both just a couple of minutes walk across the road from the beach.
If skateboarding is more your scene, the Alex Heads Skate Park is a must. The main bowl is surrounded by long, smooth sections of quarters.
There is one main sloped rail that is double angled for approaches in either direction. Plenty of ledges bordering the park as well. Unless you’re a local who’s used to the beach lifestyle, this park is going to be a real treat!
